Description: Avalanche goalie Calvin Pickard came in relief of Reto Berra, and earned a victory Tuesday against the Coyotes.
Insight: Does this sound familiar? This is the second time in four days that Berra was awful to start a game, and Pickard came on to lead Colorado to victory. Berra allowed three goals on eight shots while Pickard did not yield a single goal on 25 shots. Pickard is the goalie to own until Semyon Varlamov returns.
Description: Avalanche left wing Gabriel Landeskog scored twice to rally Colorado from three goals behind and beat the Coyotes, 4-3, on Tuesday.
Insight: Landeskog scored towards the beginning of the second period to jump start the Avalanche. Description: Avalanche goalie Calvin Pickard came in relief of Reto Berra, and earned a victory Saturday versus Carolina.
Insight: Berra allowed three goals on 10 shots, before being lifted for Pickard. It was a good move by coach Patrick Roy, as Pickard stopped all 17 shots on goal, to pick up his first win of the season. Owners should leave him on the waiver wire, but it was a nice win nevertheless.
Description: Avalanche right wing Jarome Iginla had a solid game during Saturday's victory over the Hurricanes.
Insight: He had one goal and one assist, along with two shots on goal and a +2 rating on the night. Owners are hoping this game gets Iginla going, because he has just three goals and 12 points through 21 games. We expect him to get on a hot streak rather soon.

Insight: Ranked one of the top 10 goalies prior to fantasy drafts, Varlamov has been a big disappointment. He is 2-5-4 this season and has not won since Oct. 30. Ironically, that was a 5-0 victory over the Islanders. New York shut out the Avalanche in the rematch on Tuesday, 6-0.

Description: Avalanche goalie Semyon Varlamov will start on Saturday against the Wild.
Insight: Coach Patrick Roy pulled Varlamov in the season opener against the Wild on Thursday after he allowed five goals in the first two periods. Although Varlamov did not play well, the entire team did not perform. Look for a bounce back game from Varlamov.
Description: Avalanche coach Patrick Roy is shuffling his top two lines for the Saturday night rematch against the Wild.
Insight: Colorado opened the season against Minnesota and lost 5-0, so Roy wants to shakes things up. Matt Duchene will move up to the top line to play with Ryan O'Reilly and Jarome Iginla while Gabriel Landeskog will move down to the second line to skate with Nathan MacKinnon and Alex Tanguay. All six forwards are very good, so for fantasy purposes, it really doesn't matter where Roy places there guys.
Description: Avalanche winger Daniel Briere is not expected to make much of an impact in his new home.
Insight: He was almost non-existent during his only season in Montreal (25 points in 69 games), but is hoping a change of scenery will do the trick. Briere is 36-years-old, but hockey is a sport where players can produce well into their thirties. Do not expect much, but if he can get it going on the power play early in the season, Briere could push for 50 points in 2014-15.
Description: Avalanche left wing Alex Tanguay a bit of a wild-card heading into the 2014-15 season.
Insight: He was limited to only 16 games a season ago, after having to undergo knee surgery. However, if healthy, Tanguay should be able to produce around 50 points, with 60 points not being out of reach. He will most likely go undrafted, but owners should not forget his name, as a potential waiver pickup.
Description: Avalanche center Nathan MacKinnon did not disappoint during his rookie campaign.
Insight: He won Rookie of the Year honors, after compiling 24 goals, 39 assists, and a +20 rating in 82 games. The sky seems to be the limit for MacKinnon, so dont be surprised if he is around the 80-point mark this season. He is valued as a third round selection, but it is not ridiculous to take him in the second.
Description: Avalanche center Ryan O'Reilly is yet another member of the team coming off a career-best season.
Insight: The 23-year-old had 28 goals and 36 assists for a career-high 64 points. O'Reilly will have the privilege to play alongside Nathan Mackinnon, and as a result will have a tremendous opportunity to improve on his impressive numbers from 2013-14.
Description: Colorado right wing Jarome Iginla should be able to continue his consistent production.
Insight: This guy is a point-scoring machine, and now playing with a young crew in Colorado, Iginla should benefit from the youth around him. He had impressive numbers all around last year in Boston (30 goals, 31 assists, +34 rating), and should have no issue at least duplicating those numbers with the Avalanche. Iginla is worthy of an early-to-middle round selection.
Description: Avalanche center Matt Duchene should be in line for another big season.
Insight: He had a career-high 70 points (23 goals, 47 assists) in 71 games last year, and will be centering Colorado's top line in 2014-15. Duchene's assists number could continue to rise with newcomer Jarome Iginla now playing on his right wing. Owners could do a lot worse if they decide to draft Duchene within the first five or six rounds.
Description: Avalanche left wing Gabriel Landeskog should be drafted early in fantasy drafts.
Insight: He is only 22-years-old and is coming a career-best year, with 65 points (26 goals, 39 assists) and a +21 rating. It is not too early to start thinking about selecting Landeskog during the fifth round, as he should continue to improve. Landeskog begins the year playing on Colorado's top line, which only enhances his value.
