Description: Flyers center Claude Giroux scored his 12th goal of the season on Saturday.
Insight: Giroux remains in the scoring title conversation as he has 41 points in 34 games, but his goal was the only score Philadelphia could muster versus the Vezina Trophy frontrunner in Pekka Rinne. The lost snapped Philadelphia's three-game winning streak.
Description: Flyers goalie Steve Mason took a tough shootout loss on Thursday.
Insight: Mason stopped 31-of-32 shots he faced in regulation and overtime, then made saves on two of the first three shootout attempts, but the game was still tied. Mason, again, stopped two of the next three Florida shootout shots, however, Philadelphia did not score on any of their three.
Description: Flyers winger Wayne Simmonds scored Philadelphia's only goal on Tuesday as they lost, 3-1.
Insight: The game started great as the Flyers led, 1-0, at the end of the first period with Simmonds goal. Philadelphia nearly added a second goal in the final 10 seconds too. Tampa Bay took over the game after that, scoring two goals in the first seven minutes of the second period. Simmonds has 14 goals and eight assists in 30 games this season.
Description: Penguins left winger Steve Downie played on Pittsburgh's top-line with Sidney Crosby on Monday against the Rangers.
Insight: Downie had a goal and an assist in his first game with extensive minutes playing with Crosby, but Patric Hornqvist might return on Friday, which would send Downie back to the third or fourth line. Therfore, Downie is the definition of short-term value.
Description: Penguins left winger Steve Downie had a goal and an assist to help Pittsburgh force overtime against the New York Rangers on Monday.
Insight: Unfortunately for Pittsburgh, they lost in overtime, 4-3. Downie had an assist on the first goal of the game, and then scored the tying goal with under five minutes left in regulation. Even though they lost, Downie's efforts help Pittsburgh get a point and move into sole possession of first place.
Description: Flyers center Claude Giroux scored his sixth goal of the season on Thursday against the Wild.
Insight: Giroux tied the game on the power play with fewer than four minutes left in regulation. Giroux may not have a ton of goals yet, but he has 16 assists and a plus-six rating. Philadelphia, however, allowed a goal inside of one minute left in regulation and lost, 3-2.
Description: Flyers center Claude Giroux recorded three points in Saturday's win over Colorado.
Insight: He was been outshined this season by teammate Jakub Voracek, who also had three assists, but Giroux has been solid nonetheless. After scoring two goals and an assist, Giroux now has 18 points on the season.
Description: Penguins left winger Steve Downie recorded the Gordie Howe hat trick against the Jets.
Insight: Downie had a goal, assist and a fight, racking up 22 penalty minutes. He was also plus-three with two shots on goal. It was a surprisingly physical game between two out-of-conference teams, and Pittsburgh won in a shootout, 4-3.
Description: Flyers goalie Steve Mason played pretty well in his return to net on Saturday.
Insight: Backup Ray Emery started the last four games, going 3-1-1. Mason stopped 28-of-30 shots in a loss to the Panthers on Saturday. Coach Craig Berube has not confirmed that Mason will regain the clear No. 1 goalie role, so fantasy owners will likely continue to get a headache trying to figure out how many minutes Mason will receive in net.
Description: Flyers goalie Steve Mason will finally be back in net on Saturday.
Insight: Ray Emery started the past four games, going 3-1-0, but Mason should be able to regain the number-one gig. Emery is on the team for backup purposes, and the Flyers will give Mason the opportunity to breakout of his early-season slump.
Description: Flyers 34-year-old center Vincent Lecavalier has missed seven games due to a foot injury, but is expected to return Saturday.
Insight: It's been a few seasons since Lecavlier was an everyday fantasy starter. Last year, he did play in 69 games, the most since 2009-2010, and he scored just 37 points. He's likelt play on a line with R.J. Umberger and Wayne Simmonds.
Description: Flyers goalie Ray Emery started for a consecutive game and earned another victory.
Insight: After playing okay against the Penguins on Wednesday and receiving the win, Emery was great on Saturday. He stopped 35-of-27 shots on goal, and is now in line for more playing time. Do not be surprised if he starts over Steve Mason next time out.
Description: Flyers winger Michael Raffl had three points on Saturday against Detroit.
Insight: He had two goals and an assist, and now owners need to monitor Raffl as we move forward. He is playing on the top line next to Claude Giroux, and that assigment does not look like it is going anywhere.
Description: Flyers center Sean Couturier scored three points against the Penguins on Wednesday.
Insight: Couturier assisted Pierre-Edouard Bellemare's goal in the first period and Matt Read's goal in the third period. Couturier then sealed the victory with an empty-net goal with less than 30 seconds left. The center was also plus-three.
Description: Flyers goalie Ray Emery stopped 22 of 25 shots in a victory on Wednesday against the Penguins.
Insight: Emery wasn't particularly good, but the Flyers controlled the puck for much of the game. Emery helped the Flyers penalty kill keep the top power-play unit of Pittsburgh scoreless on two tries. Steve Mason is still the starting goalie, but Emery might receive some more playing time moving forward. Keep an eye on this situation.
Description: Flyers right wing Matt Read scored a goal in Wednesday night's game against the Penguins.
Insight: Read scored at the 8:50 mark of the third period to put the Flyers up, 4-2. Pittsburgh scored to cut the lead to one before Philadelphia added an empty-net goal. So Read's goal ended up being the game-winner.
Description: Flyers defenseman Mark Streit scored the first of five Philadelphia goals on Wednesday night against the Penguins.
Insight: Streit scored on a slapshot to tie the game at one. Streit also made a nice defensive play that possibly prevented a goal. Philadelphia scored three third period goals to win, 5-3. Streit was plus-two.
Description: The Flyers will start Ray Emery on Wednesday against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Insight: This isn't that surprising since Steven Mason played on Tuesday. Emery has a 2.73 GAA and .907 save percentage in two games this season. With Mason's slow start, perhaps Emery receives more playing time if he plays well on Wednesday.
Description: Flyers center Claude Giroux scored the game-winning goal in overtime as Philadelphia completed a two-goal comeback on Saturday against the Stars.
Insight: The goal was Giroux's second of the season to give the Flyers its first victory. Philadelphia was aggressive, crashing the net in overtime, and drew a penalty. Giroux's goal came on the power play. Giroux also had an assist and finished plus-one.
Description: Flyers winger Wayne Simmonds scored and had an assisst on Tuesday against the Ducks.
Insight: Both of Simmonds' points came on the power play, and his goal tied the game at two with less than three minutes left in the second period. Simmonds had five shots and two hits in the game as well.
Description: Flyers 34-year-old center Vincent Lecavalier is expected to miss two weeks with a lower body injury.
Insight: It's been a few seasons since Lecavlier was an everyday fantasy starter.. Last year, he did play in 69 games, the most since 2009-2010, and he scored just 37 points. An ugly plus/minus of -16 hurts his value.
Description: Flyers winger Wayne Simmonds shined on the power play Thursday night against New Jersey.
Insight: He had two goals on the power play, and added an assist on Vincent Lecavalier's third period goal. Simmonds has been an animal on the power play, dating back to last season. Look for that to continue. Lecavalier finished the night with the one goal and one assist, along with three shots and a -1 rating.
Description: Flyers goalie Steve Mason gets the nod again Thursday, against the Devils.
Insight: He started the season-opener Wednesday night against Boston, stopping 31-of-33 shots in a 2-1 loss. Mason was impressive against the Bruins, making the decision by coach Craig Berube an obvious one, this early in the season.
Description: Penguins left winger Steve Downie made it clear that "there won't be any liberties on those players this year," according to the team's website.
Insight: "Those players" refer to Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin. Downie's role will be an enforcer as he will protect the Penguins' stars. He should rack up the PIM and have a respectable amount of points.
Description: Fantasy owners should not overlook 34-year-old center Vincent Lecavalier on draft day.
Insight: He isn't a fantasy starter, but he should provide some depth off the fantasy bench. Lecavalier's biggest issue over the last four years has been staying healthy. Last year, he did play in 69 games, the most since 2009-2010, and he scored just 37 points while posting a plus/minus of -16. He isn't poised for a bounce back season, but Lecavalier has the potential to be better than that this year.
Description: Flyers defenseman Mark Streit is a middle-of-the-road fantasy defenseman.
Insight: Streit hasn't been the same player since he missed the entire 2010-2011 season with a shoulder injury. He turns 37 this season, and Philadelphia's defensive defenseman and power-play specialist Michael Del Zotto will continue to cut into Streit's ice time.
Description: The Flyers are hoping center Sean Couturier will be more invovled offensively this season according to Comcast SportsNet.
Insight: Couturier has played great defensively, but Philadelphia has placed him on the same line with Wayne Simmonds in hopes of jump starting him offensively. Couturier scored 13 goals and 39 points last season, and we expect about the same totals again this year.
Description: Flyers center Brayden Schenn is a high-risk, high-reward fantasy investment this year.
Insight: Schenn showcased his skill at just 22 last year, scoring 41 points while playing fewer than 16 minutes per game. The problem is that other centers Vincent Lecavalier and Sean Couturier will also be in the mix on the second line. If Schenn can beat them out for the job, he has big splash potential.
Description: Flyers right wing Jakub Voracek should easily repeat his totals from 2013-2014.
Insight: Voracek was a bit disappointing considering his skill and the talent around him. That means Voracek could improve upon his 23 goals and 39 assists from a year ago. Voracek and center Claude Giroux have great chemistry together, and it should not matter who replaces Scott Hartnell at the other wing position on the first line.
Description: Flyers winger Wayne Simmonds should be a potent power play winger once again and perhaps even earn a top-line role at even strength.
Insight: Simmonds played on the second line last year, but the departure of Scott Hartnell allows for a different winger to step up and play alongside Claude Giroux. Simmonds finished third in power-play goals last year and also had 106 penalty minutes and 209 shots on goal.
Description: Flyers center Claude Giroux will be able to put up the same kind of numbers from last season even without his linemate Scott Hartnell.
Insight: The Flyers traded Hartnell to the Blue Jackets, so Giroux will need a new winger, but we still expect him to finish with around 90 points. Giroux played in his first preseason game on Tuesday and although he was rusty, his lower body injury did not effect him. The Philadelphia center is a first-round fantasy pick.
Description: Flyers center Claude Giroux returned to practice on Thursday according to Philadelphia Inquirer & Daily News.
Insight: He still won't play in the team's preseason game against the Devils on Thursday. Flyers coach Craig Berube wants to get Giroux some playing time in preseason, but he did not give Giroux a timetable to return.
Description: Philadelphia center Claude Giroux collected three points in Tuesday's Game 6 win over the Rangers.
Insight: He assisted on two of Wayne Simmonds' goals before scoring one of his own in the third period. The 26-year-old has averaged a point per game this series (six points in six contests). Game 7 is tonight at Madison Square Garden.
Description: Philadelphia winger Wayne Simmonds had a hat trick Tuesday to help the Flyers force a Game 7 against the Rangers.
Insight: Simmonds also had six SOG and 12 PIM. The winger had a career year with 29 goals and 60 points and has produced four goals, one assist, 15 SOG and 20 PIM in the first-round playoff series against New York.
Description: An upper-body injury will sideline Steve Mason for Game 1 against the Rangers on Thursday, according to Frank Seravalli of the Philadelphia Daily News.
Insight: Ray Emery will start in Mason's place. Mason went 33-18-7 with a 2.50 GAA and a .917 SV% this season. He was shelled in his only career postseason appearance as a rookie in 2008-09, giving up 17 goals in four games against the Red Wings.
Description: Flyers goalie Steve Mason (upper body) left Saturday's game for precautionary reasons, according to Tim Panaccio of csnphilly.com.
Insight: Coach Craig Berube said Mason will be ready to play in the first round of the playoffs against the Rangers. The 25-year-old went 33-18-7 with a 2.50 GAA and a .917 SV% this season. He was shelled in his only career postseason appearance as a rookie in 2008-09, giving up 17 goals in four games against the Red Wings.
Description: Philadelphia right wing Jakub Voracek was at his best Saturday in a thrilling 4-3 triumph over Pittsburgh.
Insight: Voracek generated three points (two goals, one assist) in 16 and a half minutes of ice time. The win guarantees the Flyers will play the Rangers in the first round of the postseason. Voracek (23 goals, 38 assists) had one goal against the Blue Shirts in four regular season meetings.
Description: Philadelphia center Vincent Lecavalier had his second straight two-point game Tuesday at Florida.
Insight: Lecavalier has provided fantasy owners with seven points (five goals, two assists) over his last seven games, but he still has just 37 this season. That's his lowest total for a full season since 2001-02.
Description: Flyers center Vincent Lecavalier responded to his demotion to the fourth line with a power-play goal against Toronto on Friday.
Insight: Flyers coach Craig Berube wanted to move Lecavalier back to center because he has been struggling on the wing, but the top three center spots are occupied by Claude Giroux, Brayden Schenn and Sean Couturier. The 33-year-old Lecavalier has 16 goals and 15 assists in 60 games this season.
Description: Flyers right wing Wayne Simmonds had a big game Sunday against Pittsburgh.
Insight: Simmonds finished the game with two goals and one assist. The 50 points Simmonds has posted this season are a new career-high. With the victory, Philadelphia moved into second place in the Metropolitan Division with 77 points. That's one ahead of Columbus and the New York Rangers.
Description: Flyers right wing Steve Downie is dealing with the flu and won't play Saturday, according to Sam Carchidi of the Philadelphia Inquirer. Jay Rosehill will replace him in the lineup.
Insight: Nineteen of Downie's 24 points came over his first 30 games of the season. He has put up just five points over his last 24 games, though he has continued to pile up the penalty minutes (102 PIM this season).
Description: Flyers backup goalie Ray Emery will miss Saturday's game against Toronto due to a groin injury.
Insight: Emery hasn't gotten much work this season going 7-9-1 with a 3.03 GAA and .898 SV%. That's nothing like the 17-1-0 record (1.94 GAA, .922 SV%) he put together last season in Chicago. Steve Mason has started 10 of the Flyers' 11 games since Jan. 25.
Description: The Islanders traded defenseman Andrew MacDonald to the Philadelphia Flyers for two draft picks on Tuesday.
Insight: MacDonald has 24 points (four goals), 34 PIM, 72 SOG and a -19 differential in 63 games this season. He'll fill valuable minutes on the blue line for Philadelphia but will lose fantasy value as he'll have to take a back seat to Kimmo Timonen and Mark Streit on the power play.
Description: Flyers defenseman Kimmo Timonen was a healthy scratch Thursday as the team gave him some time off after the Olympics, but should be ready for the Rangers on Saturday.
Insight: Philadelphia coach Craig Berube said that Timonen has no legs right now after playing for Finland in the Olympics. He's posted 19 points on 109 SOG in 57 games this season, including 13 from the point on the power play.
Description: Flyers backup goalie Ray Emery is questionable for Saturday's game against the NY Rangers with an undisclosed injury.
Insight: Emery hasn't gotten much work this season going 7-9-1 with a 3.03 GAA and .898 SV%. That's nothing like the 17-1-0 record (1.94 GAA, .922 SV%) he put together last season in Chicago. Steve Mason will get the start on Saturday.
Description: Philadelphia goalie Steve Mason is questionable for Saturday's game against Calgary due to a lower-body injury.

Description: Philadelphia defenseman Kimmo Timonen is expected to play Thursday despite a foot injury. SOURCE: csnphilly.com
Insight: Timonen hurt his foot while blocking a shot Tuesday and had to leave the game. He also missed practice Wednesday, but coach Craig Berube insisted he is OK. "He's fine," Berube said. "I knew he was fine last night. Just making sure -- just a maintenance day for him."
Description: Flyers winger Scott Hartnell had two goals, one assist and five SOG Tuesday against Detroit.
Insight: Hartnell has been playing through a foot injury he sustained while blocking a shot on Jan. 14, but a CT scan Tuesday ruled out a fracture. The winger has 14 goals, 33 points, 132 SOG and 48 PIM in 50 games this season.
Description: Philadelphia netminder Steve Mason shut out the undermanned Red Wings Tuesday.
Insight: Mason made 33 saves against a Detroit team playing without Pavel Datsyuk, Henrik Zetterberg and Johan Franzen. After a strong first two months of the season, Mason has struggled since the start of December and had a 3.60 GAA in his first nine starts of January.
Description: Flyers winger Scott Hartnell (foot) will play Tuesday, according to csnphilly.com.
Insight: Hartnell suffered a foot injury while blocking a shot on Jan. 14 and has been playing through it. He was spotted in a walking boot over the weekend and thought his foot may be broken, but a CT scan came back negative.
Description: Flyers right wing Jakub Voracek (hand) will play Wednesday against Carolina, according to Tim Panaccio of csnphilly.com.
Insight: Voracek probably would have missed the game had it been played in its regularly schedule time Tuesday, but it was postponed due to snow. Voracek has produced 11 goals and 23 points over his last 21 games and 35 points in 50 games this season.
Description: Philadelphia right wing Wayne Simmonds has recorded 22 points (12 goals) in his last 17 games.
Insight: Like most of his teammates, Simmonds got off to a terrible start but has come on strong the last month or so. He had a goal on five shots Monday at New York, giving him 17 goals, 37 points, 77 PIM and 122 SOG in 50 games.
Description: Philadelphia defenseman Andrej Meszaros finished with two goals in just under 19 minutes of ice time Saturday in a win against the Islanders.
Insight: He doubled his season goal total in the process. Both of his tallies came in the first period. Despite his strong showing on Saturday, Meszaros isn't a particularly appealing fantasy defenseman.
Description: Philadelphia right wing Wayne Simmonds has recorded 20 points (11 goals) in his last 15 games.
Insight: Like most of his teammates, Simmonds got off to a terrible start but has come on strong the last month or so. After putting up a goal and two assists Thursday against Nashville, Simmonds has 35 points (16 goals), 116 SOG and 77 PIM in 48 games.

Description: Flyers center Vincent Lecavalier's game-winning goal Tuesday was his first goal since Nov. 27.

Description: Flyers right wing Jakub Voracek scored another goal Tuesday, giving him 10 in his last 17 games.

Description: Flyers right wing Steve Downie will be a healthy scratch Sunday, according to Frank Seravalli of the Philadelphia Daily News. "His intensity level is not where it needs to be shift to shift," coach Craig Berube said.
