Insight: Tlusty had 23 goals and 38 points in 48 games last season but that turned out to be an aberration. He has just 11 goals and 21 points in 57 games this season and zero 40-point years in his seven NHL seasons.
Jordan Staal, C3/11/2014 9:50:00 PM
Description: Hurricanes center Jordan Staal had two points (one goal, one assist) Tuesday against the Rangers.

Description: Carolina center Eric Staal went into the Olympic break with just one point in his last five games, but he scored a goal Tuesday against Buffalo in the Hurricanes' first game back.
Insight: Staal has been very good in all months of the season but he takes his game to a higher level in March and April. In his career, he has generated 176 points over 179 games in those two months, so fantasy owners have that to look forward to.
Alexander Semin, RW2/25/2014 9:49:00 PM
Description: Canes right wing Alexander Semin scored his 15th goal of the season Tuesday against Buffalo.
Insight: Semin is scoring goals and shooting just as much as he did last season but his assists are way behind, which explains why he has just 30 points in 46 games after registering 44 in 44 last season.

Description: Carolina goaltender Anton Khudobin made 25 saves on 27 shots Tuesday against the Jets but it wasn't enough in a 2-1 loss.
Insight: Cam Ward is now healthy but there's no way the team can pull Khudobin out of the net. He was named the NHL's First Star of January after going 10-4-0 with a 2.19 GAA and a .927 SV% and hasn't allowed more than three goals in any game this season.
Cam Ward, G2/2/2014 9:10:00 PM
Description: The Hurricanes recalled Cam Ward from his AHL conditioning stint on Sunday.
Insight: Ward missed Carolina's last 14 games due to a lower-body injury. He has had a terrible season, going 6-7-5 with a 3.15 GAA and a .895 save percentage. The Hurricanes would be crazy to remove Anton Khudobin (12-4-0, 2.16 GAA, .927 SV%), who has gone 5-1 in his last six starts, from the net.
Anton Khudobin, GHot1/31/2014 10:53:00 PM

Description: Hurricanes winger Jeff Skinner has cooled off lately with just three points in his last 10 games.

Cam Ward, G1/30/2014 3:52:00 PM
Description: Hurricanes goalie Cam Ward has been activated from the injured list, but sent to AHL Charlotte to work on his conditioning.

Eric Staal, CHot1/27/2014 9:49:00 PM
Description: Carolina center Eric Staal saved the best for last Monday against Columbus. His two third period goals helped erase a two-goal deficit as the Hurricanes came back to win 3-2.
Insight: His younger brother Jordan scored the game-winner with just under six minutes remaining in the third period. Staal can tie a season-high by extending his points streak to seven games Tuesday against Montreal.
Alexander Semin, RWHot1/23/2014 10:03:00 PM
Description: Canes right wing Alexander Semin kept his scoring streak alive with two more goals Thursday in a win over Buffalo.

Description: Hurricanes center Eric Staal had his second straight two-point game Sunday against the Lightning.
Insight: Staal sat out three games earlier this month with a lower-body injury, but he's looked good in three games since returning. He has 11 goals and 38 points in 45 games.
Alexander Semin, RW1/19/2014 7:50:00 PM
Description: Hurricanes winger Alex Semin has scored three goals on 13 shots the last two games.
Insight: With nine goals in 36 games, Semin isn't far off from last season's pace of 0.30 goals per game, but he only has 12 assists (0.33 apg) after picking up 0.70 assists per game last season.
Alexander Semin, RW1/18/2014 10:19:00 PM
Description: Alexander Semin anchored the Canes' offense with two goals on Saturday.
Insight: Both goals came in the third period and both were assisted by Eric Staal. Semin's second tally was his fourth career shorthanded goal and his first since the 2010-11 season.

Description: Anaheim defenseman Bryan Allen is likely to return on Friday, according to an Orange County Register report.

Description: Carolina backup goaltender Anton Khudobin (lower body) continues to play well in a substitute role for Cam Ward.
Insight: Khudobin is 4-1 with a 2.00 GAA over his last five games and fantasy owners should continue to ride the wave.
Cam Ward, G1/13/2014 10:24:00 AM
Description: Hurricanes goalie Cam Ward has missed six games due to a lower-body injury and still has no timetable for return.
Insight: Anton Khudobin has started five of the six games, going 4-1 and yielding 10 goals (2.00 GAA) over the span.
Riley Nash, C1/13/2014 10:20:00 AM
Description: Carolina center Riley Nash is probable for Monday's game against Calgary after being activated Sunday. He's missed six games due to a lower body injury.

Insight: The center is still taking plenty of shots, getting off 4.0 SOG per game during his scoring drought. He has three goals, eight points, 18 PIM and 49 SOG in 14 games this season. He's an obvious buy-low candidate but also shouldn't be started until he starts producing.

Description: Former Islanders goalie Rick DiPietro has resurfaced with the Carolina Hurricanes. SOURCE: Chip Alexander, Raleigh News & Observer

Justin Peters, G10/25/2013 5:04:00 PM
Description: Hurricanes goalie Justin Peters will start Friday at Colorado with both Cam Ward and Anton Khudobin out.

Insight: Skinner is off to a great start. While Friday's goal was his first of the season, he has five assists in five games. The 21-year-old had 63 points in 82 games as a rookie but he has dealt with injuries the last few seasons and hasn't produced up to that level.
Tim Gleason, D10/11/2013 10:10:00 AM
Description: Carolina defenseman Tim Gleason is still on injured reserve while dealing with both an upper-body injury and a concussion.
Insight: Gleason isn't much of a scorer, hasn't posted more than 20 points in a season since 2005 and has little fantasy value even when healthy.
Tuomo Ruutu, C10/11/2013 10:06:00 AM
Description: Hurricanes winger Tuomo Ruutu has yet to play this season with a lower back injury.
Insight: Ruutu recently skated with a no-contact jersey and is traveling with the team. He can come off the IR whenever he's ready which should be soon.
Alexander Semin, LW10/10/2013 10:28:00 PM
Description: Hurricanes winger Alexander Semin was scoreless in his first three games but he came through with a goal Thursday at Washington.
Insight: Semin had a big year in his first season with the Hurricanes, scoring 13 goals with 31 assists in 44 games. The 29-year-old has three 70-point seasons under his belt, so his production last season certainly wasn't a fluke.
Anton Khudobin, G10/10/2013 4:55:00 PM
Description: Anton Khudobin will start in Carolina's net Thursday at Washington.
Insight: Khudobin allowed one goal on 17 shots against the Flyers to win his lone start this season, while starter Cam Ward has struggled to a 0-1-1 record, a 3.90 GAA and an .893 SV%.
Eric Staal, C10/8/2013 9:58:00 PM
Description: Carolina center Eric Staal scored his first goal of the season Tuesday against the Penguins.
Insight: Staal didn't have a point in the first two games. The 28-year-old's 1.1 ppg average (53 points in 48 games) last season was his best since 2005-06 and first with at least 1.0 since 2007-08.
Elias Lindholm, C10/8/2013 4:00:00 PM
Description: Hurricanes' 18-year-old center Elias Lindholm is probable for Tuesday's game against Pittsburgh.
Insight: Lindholm is playing on the team's fourth line, so at the moment, his fantasy value is limited.
Alexander Semin, LW10/4/2013 11:06:00 AM
Description: Hurricanes winger Alexander Semin practiced Wednesday and while he is still listed as questionable we believe he has a better than 50-50 chance to play.
Insight: The one-year pact Semin signed with Carolina last offseason worked out well for all parties, as the winger had 13 goals and 44 points in 44 games. His presence has helped Eric Staal put up his best ppg average since 2005-06. The team and fantasy owners hope Semin is ready to go.
Elias Lindholm, C10/4/2013 10:57:00 AM
Description: Hurricanes' 18-year-old center Elias Lindholm is probable for Friday's game against Detroit while dealing with a bruised hand.
Insight: Lindholm practiced on Wednesday and should be ready to go. He's playing on the team's fourth line, so at the moment, his fantasy value is limited.
Alexander Semin, LW10/1/2013 3:05:00 PM
Description: Hurricanes winger Alexander Semin is questionable for opening night, according to coach Kirk Muller.
Joni Pitkanen, D9/13/2013 1:38:00 PM
Description: Carolina defenseman Joni Pitkanen is expected to miss the entire season, according to a Raleigh News and Observer report.
Insight: Pitkanen injured his heel last April and it still hasn't heeled. Though he scored only nine points in 22 games last season, he's always been a offensive-thinking defenseman who has scored 30-or-more points in five of nine seasons.
Kevin Westgarth, RW4/27/2013 10:45:00 PM
Description: Better late than never. Hurricanes right wing Kevin Westgarth finally scored his first goals of the season Saturday in a loss to Pittsburgh.
Insight: He finished the game with two goals and a +2 rating. Other than tonight, Westgarth wasn't a productive fantasy player this season (four points in 31 games).
Jiri Tlusty, C4/25/2013 10:59:00 PM
Description: Carolina center Jiri Tlusty found the net twice Thursday in a loss to the Rangers.
Insight: Tlusty (23 goals, 14 assists) has registered at least one point in each of his last seven games. He's racked up a +4 rating over that span.
Jay Harrison, D4/25/2013 9:08:00 PM
Description: Canes blueliner Jay Harrison took a puck to the face Thursday night versus the Rangers.
Insight: Obviously he won't be returning to action. If this is the last we see of Harrison this season, he'll finish the 2013 campaign with three goals and seven assists in 47 games.
Alexander Semin, LW4/25/2013 12:39:00 PM
Description: Hurricanes winger Alexander Semin will miss the final two games of the season due to a concussion, according to the Raleigh News & Observer.
Insight: The one-year pact Semin signed with Carolina last offseason worked out well for all parties, as the winger had 13 goals and 44 points in 44 games. His presence has helped Eric Staal put up his best ppg average since 2005-06. The Hurricanes rewarded Semin with a five-year contract extension.
Jordan Staal, C4/23/2013 10:03:00 PM
Description: Carolina center Jordan Staal had two points (1 G, 1 A) Tuesday versus the Islanders.
Insight: Despite taking on a larger role with the Hurricanes, Staal's production hasn't been helped by moving from Pittsburgh to Carolina. He has 10 goals and 30 points in 46 games, a pace of 0.65 ppg, and his -18 is disastrous. He averaged 0.81 ppg last season.
Alexander Semin, LW4/23/2013 10:00:00 PM
Description: Hurricanes winger Alexander Semin scored his 13th goal of the season Tuesday against the Islanders.
Insight: Semin started April with just two points in the first five games, but he has three goals and eight points over his last six. The winger has had a tremendous season, recording 44 points, 150 SOG, 46 PIM and a +14 in 44 games.
Dan Ellis, G4/23/2013 5:23:00 PM
Description: Carolina goaltender Dan Ellis played well in his return to the crease Sunday against Tampa Bay and he'll get another start Tuesday versus the Islanders.
Insight: Prior to Sunday, Ellis hadn't played since April 8. He has a 3.11 GAA and .906 SV% this season, so he's a shaky option over the final few games.
Jiri Tlusty, CHot4/21/2013 8:50:00 PM
Description: Canes center Jiri Tlusty enjoyed a spectacular game Sunday against the Lightning.
Insight: Tlusty netted two goals on five shots while extending his scoring streak to five games. His plus/minus rating climbed from +15 to +18 in the victory.
