Hornqvist learning quickly

By Steve Schwarz, Fantasy Sports Editor

Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - In 2008-09, Nashville right winger Patric Hornqvist was playing the role of yo-yo, going back and forth from the Predators to Milwaukee of the AHL. He didn't have much success with the "big club' scoring just seven points in 28 games.

But 2009-10 is a new year and apparently Hornqvist (ADP 245) has found his niche. The Sollentuna, Sweden native led the team in scoring during the preseason and has quickly become a valuable asset to the balanced Predators offense as well as "fantasy-worthy."

Through the team's first 53 games, Hornqvist has put up 33 points, including a team-leading 21 goals, while playing solid defense (+12 rating). He's actually been one of those rare players who is producing better on the road (12G, 7A in 28 games) than at home (9G, 5A in 24 games). And in another odd fact, Hornqvist has scored 16 of his 21 goals on Tuesdays (8) and Thursdays (8).

Hornqvist, just 23-years-old, primarily plays on a line with 16-year veteran Jason Arnott and 13-year veteran Steve Sullivan. He seems to be learning quickly, dramatically increasing his goal-scoring output over the last two months.

The good news is that Hornqvist is owned in less than 60% of all leagues, so could be available for the cost of a waiver pickup.
