Stevie Johnson, WRCold9/16/2014 12:25:00 PM
Description: As expected, wide receiver Stevie Johnson is the third receiver on the 49ers roster and has seen just six targets in two games.
Insight: With Anquan Boldin and Michael Crabtree ahead of him on the team's wide receiver depth chart, Johnson (52 catches, 597 yards, 3 TD in 12 games last season) simply won't have fantasy value without an injury to get him more playing time.
Anquan Boldin, WR9/16/2014 12:22:00 PM
Description: San Francisco wide receiver Anquan Boldin leads the team in targets with 15, catching 10 of them, for 133 yards over the first two games.
Insight: Boldin was sensational last season, hauling in a team-high 85 catches for 1,179 yards, but he isn't likely going to get close to those numbers in 2014 with a healthy Michael Crabtree as the No. 1 receiver. He'd be a great handcuff for Crabtree, should the injury-prone wideout go down.
Derek Carrier, TE9/16/2014 12:18:00 PM
Description: San Francisco TE Derek Carrier could be in line for fantasy value in Week 3 if injured starter Vernon Davis and his backup Vance McDonald aren't ready to go Sunday.
Insight: Carrier caught three balls for 41 yards Sunday night against the Bears and may see more work against Arizona than the 19 plays he was in on against Chicago.
Vernon Davis, TE9/16/2014 12:15:00 PM
Description: We are still awaiting results of the MRI for San Francisco tight end Vernon Davis, who left the game in the fourth quarter with an ankle injury and was seen leaving the locker room on crutches.
Insight: Davis was expected to get an MRI Monday. The 49ers could be down to third-string TE Derek Carrier for Week 3 as backup Vance McDonald is dealing with a knee injury.
Michael Crabtree, WR9/16/2014 12:11:00 PM
Description: 49ers wide receiver Michael Crabtree finished the game with the Bears as the 49ers' top receiver in both targets and yards.
Insight: Crabtree caught 7-of-9 targets for 82 yards and a touchdown. He's always been a Colin Kaepernick favorite. His problem is staying healthy. If Vernon Davis (ankle) is sidelined for any length of time, Crabtree's numbers would likely rise.
Colin Kaepernick, QB9/16/2014 10:24:00 AM
Description: San Francisco QB Colin Kaepernick was not good in the 49ers home loss to the Chicago Bears Sunday night, throwing for 248 yards and a score, but was picked off three times.
Insight: Two second-half interceptions were particularly damaging. At least he rushed for 66 yards, but even there he coughed up the football for a fourth turnover. He and the 49ers travel to Arizona where he's going to have to be much better against a Cardinals team ranked 10th in yards allowed and fourth in turnovers.
Vernon Davis, TE9/15/2014 2:51:00 PM
Description: San Francisco tight end Vernon Davis left the game in the fourth quarter with an ankle injury and was seen leaving the locker room on crutches, according to a csnbayarea.com report
Insight: Davis is expected to get an MRI Monday, so we should know more later today or Tuesday. He didn't do much in this one, with just three catches for 39 yards, but was big in the season opener with a pair of touchdown catches.
Vernon Davis, TE9/14/2014 11:39:00 PM
Description: San Francisco tight end Vernon Davis left the game in the fourth quarter with an ankle injury and will not return.
Insight: Davis didn't do much in this one, with just three catches for 39 yards, but was big in the season opener with a pair of touchdown catches.
Marcus Lattimore, RB9/13/2014 5:10:00 PM
Description: 49ers running back Marcus Lattimore will be the No. 3 running back during the second half of the season according to CSN Bay Area.
Insight: Lattimore is supposed to return to practice in Week 7. He will not be pushed into the lineup right away, but if he continues to progress, Lattimore has a great shot to overtake rookie Bruce Ellington for the No. 3 back.
Bruce Ellington, WR9/12/2014 2:37:00 PM
Description: With the 49ers down to just two running backs, wide receiver Bruce Ellington is a candidate for emergency back if needed, according to an SFGate report by Eric Branch.
Insight: Frank Gore and rookie Carlos Hyde should get all the work, but Ellington did practice with the RBs Wednesday ... just in case.
Michael Crabtree, WR9/12/2014 2:35:00 PM
Description: 49ers wide receiver Michael Crabtree (calf) has practiced all week and should be ready to improve on a weak first weekend.
Insight: He caught just two balls for 25 yards, but the 49ers owned a big lead and didn't throw much. Facing the Bears, and being healthier, should allow him a muich better performance.
Tramaine Brock, CB9/7/2014 6:09:00 PM
Description: San Francisco cornerback Tramaine Brock injured a toe in the first half and his return is questionable.
Insight: Brock joined fellow starter Chris Culliver (head, neck) on the sidelines leaving the 49ers thin in the secondary. it remains to be seen if Tony Romo can take advantage of the situation.
Michael Crabtree, WR9/7/2014 3:22:00 PM
Description: 49ers wide receiver Michael Crabtree (calf) is active for Week 1 against the Cowboys.
Insight: How long he will play or how effective he is will be another story. Owners are certainly pleased he will play and against a weak Dallas defense, we all hope he is not limited in any way.
Michael Crabtree, WR9/4/2014 4:23:00 PM
Description: 49ers wide receiver Michael Crabtree said he is "good to go" against the Cowboys on Sunday according to Cam Inman of Bay Area News.
Insight: Crabtree (calf) missed Wednesday's practice, but that appears to have been just precautionary. Crabtree is quarterback Colin Kaepernick's No. 1 target this season and is a solid WR1 in 12 team leagues this Sunday against Dallas' poor defense.
Michael Crabtree, WR9/4/2014 11:11:00 AM
Description: San Francisco wideout Michael Crabtree did not practice on Wednesday due to a calf injury and his status for Week 1 against Dallas is unknown according to Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area.
Insight: This is the second leg injury Crabtree has endured since the beginning of training camp, when he suffered a hamstring strain. Crabtree is poised to have a huge season after missing most of last year with an Achillies' tear. Hopefully he returns quickly, so owners can feel a little more at ease.
LaMichael James, RB9/2/2014 10:52:00 AM
Description: San Francisco RB/KR LaMichael James (elbow) was back at practice last Friday well ahead of schedule.
Insight: The 49ers will use Frank Gore and rookie Carlos Hyde with James as the change-of-pace back. Running back used to be the deepest part of the 49ers roster, but with injuries to Kendall Hunter, Marcus Lattimore and James its a bit thin back there at the moment.
Aldon Smith, LB8/29/2014 4:20:00 PM
Description: Niners linebacker Aldon Smith has been suspended for nine games for violating the league's personal conduct policy.
Insight: He won't make his first appearance until Week 11. Smith is extremely talented but he won't ever reach his full potential until he conquers some of his off-the-field demons. The 49ers defense is already without Glenn Dorsey (torn biceps) and Navorro Bowman (knee) and fantasy owners should consider slightly downgrading their value.
Michael Crabtree, WR8/13/2014 10:28:00 PM
Description: San Francisco wideout Michael Crabtree returned to practice Wednesday, according to Steve Corkran of the Bay Area News Group.
Insight: Crabtree missed roughly 10 days with hamstring soreness. The receiver is primed for a breakout after a torn Achilles ruined his 2013 season. He has low-end WR1 upside but is being selected in the fourth round of mock drafts.
Kendall Hunter, RB8/8/2014 9:53:00 AM
Description: San Francisco running back Kendall Hunter was officially placed on injured reserve. is done for the season with a torn ACL in his right knee.
Insight: Hunter was Frank Gore backup last season. With the team wanting to limit Gore's workload, rookie Carlos Hyde could have fantasy value.
Carlos Hyde, RB8/8/2014 9:46:00 AM
Description: San Francisco rookie running back Carlos Hyde ran well in his first action, posting 39 yards on five carries.
Insight: Kendall Hunter was the handcuff for Frank Gore, but tore his right knee ACL leaving Hyde as the obvious backup choice. This first performance will solidify his position.
Glenn Dorsey, DE8/2/2014 2:42:00 PM
Description: San Francisco NT Glenn Dorsey is out for the season due to a torn bicep, according to Adam Schefter.
Insight: Dorsey was injured at Friday's practice. The 49ers defense takes another hit. They might have to look past their current roster for additional help.
Michael Crabtree, WR8/1/2014 4:15:00 PM
Description: San Francisco wideout Michael Crabtree could miss up to two weeks with a hamstring injury, according to Josina Anderson.
Insight: Crabtree should still be ready for the regular season and the missed time won't hurt much. He'll be the No. 1 receiver for the 49ers.
Carlos Hyde, RB7/28/2014 11:27:00 AM
Description: San Francisco rookie running back Carlos Hyde could become a decent fantasy option and will certainly be the handcuff for Frank Gore after this weekend's injures to the 49ers backfield.
Insight: Kendall Hunter was the handcuff, but tore his right knee ACL over the weekend and LaMichael James will miss the next 4-6 weeks with a dislocated elbow. That leaves just Marcus Lattimore (knee) and Hyde as back ups. The team has stated they wanted to reduce Gore's workload this season.
LaMichael James, RB7/27/2014 8:21:00 PM
Description: San Francisco RB/KR LaMichael James will miss at least a month with a dislocated left elbow, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com.
Insight: Earlier this spring, it looked as if the 49ers would enter training camp with major depth at running back, but Kendall Hunter tore his ACL on Friday, Marcus Lattimore (knee, hamstring) still is unable to practice and James will miss the entire preseason. The team plans to reduce Frank Gore's workload and rookie Carlos Hyde is now in position to see most of the work as a backup.
Kendall Hunter, RB7/27/2014 1:13:00 PM
Description: San Francisco running back Kendall Hunter is done for the season with a torn ACL in his right knee.
Insight: The team is planning on reducing Frank Gore's carries this season and rookie Carlos Hyde stands to benefit the most from Hunter's injury.
Vernon Davis, TE7/23/2014 1:18:00 PM
Description: San Francisco tight end Vernon Davis has reported to training camp, according to Matt Maiocco of csnbayarea.com.
Insight: Davis missed OTAs and minicamp because he wants a new contract, but San Francisco doesn't want to give him one and he really doesn't have any leverage. Davis had 52 receptions, 850 yards and 13 touchdowns in 15 games last season and comes with a fifth-round ADP.
Stevie Johnson, WR7/22/2014 10:59:00 AM
Description: Wide receiver Stevie Johnson is the third most talented receiver on the 49ers roster, but that doesn't mean he'll be the No. 3 wideout ... or even on the team.
Insight: With Anquan Boldin and Michael Crabtree ahead of him on the team's wide receiver depth chart, Johnson (52 catches, 597 yards, 3 TD in 12 games last season) will have to prove he's worth the high salary he comands or the team could go for youth.
Frank Gore, RB7/17/2014 3:31:00 PM
Description: According to ESPN's John Clayton, 49ers running back Frank Gore could see 50 fewer carries in 2014 than he did last year.
Insight: Earlier this month, ESPN NFC West blogger Bill Williamson projected Gore to get 220 carries, 56 fewer than the 276 he had last season. Gore no longer contributes in the passing game so he'll be no more than a low-end RB2 with just 220 carries.
Frank Gore, RB7/7/2014 9:53:00 PM
Description: ESPN.com's 49ers blogger Bill Williamson projects Frank Gore will get 220 carries in 2014.
Insight: That would be a decrease of 56 carries from last season. If he receives just 220 carries, Gore would have to increase his ypc from 4.1 to 4.6 to rush for 1,000 yards for the eighth time in the last nine years. San Francisco drafted Carlos Hyde in the second round this year and has stashed Marcus Lattimore since last year while he recovered from a serious knee injury. Because Gore no longer contributes in the passing game -- he had 51 catches per season from 2006-2010 but 61 catches total in Jim Harbaugh's three years as 49ers coach -- he would have a difficult time returning RB2 value with 220 carries.
Carlos Hyde, RB6/23/2014 9:40:00 PM
Description: ESPN's Bill Williamson says that San Francisco rookie running back Carlos Hyde "is likely to get a chance at playing time right away."
Insight: Hyde reportedly has shined as a runner and receiver so far in practice. However, he's unlikely to carry fantasy value as a rookie unless Frank Gore gets hurt. After dealing with injuries early in his career, Gore has proven to be ultra reliable the last three years, though he is now 31 years old and rushed for a career-low 4.1 yards per carry last season. The team also has Kendall Hunter and Marcus Lattimore, who is attempting to come back from the devastating knee injury he suffered in 2012, in the backfield.
Eric Wright, CB6/18/2014 11:28:00 AM
Description: 49ers cornerback Eric Wright has announced his retirement from the NFL. SOURCE: Mike Garafolo, Fox Sports 1
Insight: Wright is only 28 so this news is a little surprising. He's never been to a Pro Bowl but Wright has been a productive player throughout his career, logging 15 interceptions and 367 tackles over seven seasons.
Vernon Davis, TE6/17/2014 2:34:00 PM
Description: San Francisco tight end Vernon Davis did not show up for the team's mandatory minicamp despite earlier reports that he would. He also sat out OTAs last month because of his contract dispute. SOURCE: Adam Schefter, ESPN
Insight: The two-time Pro Bowler won't hit free agency until 2016 but after seeing Colin Kaepernick's new deal, he feels he deserves a raise. Only time will tell if the 49ers feel the same way.
Vernon Davis, TE6/15/2014 4:18:00 PM
Description: 49ers tight end Vernon Davis will participate in the team's mandatory minicamp next week. He sat out OTAs last month because of a contract dispute. SOURCE: ESPN
Insight: Davis probably still isn't thrilled with his contract but he also doesn't want to get fined. The two-time Pro Bowler won't hit free agency until 2016.
Colin Kaepernick, QB6/12/2014 8:55:00 PM
Description: San Francisco QB Colin Kaepernick won't be charged in connection with a suspicious incident that took place in Miami earlier this offseason.
Insight: Investigators were unable to find evidence of any wrongdoing on Kaepernick's part. It appears life can go on as usual for Kaepernick, who just signed a six-year extension to become one of the highest-paid quarterbacks in the NFL.
Colin Kaepernick, QB6/4/2014 4:15:00 PM
Description: The Niners and quarterback Colin Kaepernick have agreed to a six-year, $126 million extension with $61 million of that guaranteed. SOURCE: Ian Rapoport, NFL.com
Insight: Accuracy was a bit of an issue for Kaepernick last season (58.4 completion percentage) but he still finished the year with 21 touchdowns and over 3,000 passing yards. He's always been a good runner, averaging six yards per carry on 157 career rushes. With Kaepernick under center, San Francisco should once again be one of the top teams in the NFC.
Vernon Davis, TE5/29/2014 8:17:00 PM
Description: Niners tight end Vernon Davis won't be attending OTAs as he seeks a new contract. SOURCE: Comcast Sportsnet Bay Area
Insight: We've seen this before and rarely does it end well. The two-time Pro Bowler is set to earn $4.7 million in 2014. By sitting out OTAs, Davis will forfeit a $200,000 workout bonus. He caught 58 passes for 850 yards and 13 touchdowns last season.
Aldon Smith, LB5/22/2014 9:20:00 PM
Description: Niners linebacker Aldon Smith pleaded no contest to weapon charges and a DUI.
Insight: A suspension is on the way. According to Tom Pelissero of USA Today, he could be banned half the season. Smith is extremely talented but he won't ever reach his full potential until he conquers some of his off-the-field demons.
Stevie Johnson, WR5/11/2014 5:19:00 PM
Description: The Bills were able to trade wide receiver Stevie Johnson to the 49ers in exchange for a fourth-round pick in next year's draft. SOURCE: Adam Schefter, ESPN
Insight: The writing was on the wall for Johnson after the team drafted Clemson wideout Sammy Watkins with the fourth overall pick on Thursday night. With Anquan Boldin and Michael Crabtree both ahead of him on the team's wide receiver depth chart, Johnson (52 catches, 597 yards, 3 TD in 12 games last season) doesn't figure to be an appealing fantasy option in 2014.
Carlos Hyde, RB5/9/2014 9:04:00 PM
Description: Running back Carlos Hyde went 57th overall to the 49ers in the 2014 draft.
Insight: Hyde went third among running backs after Bishop Sankey (54th to Tennessee) and Jeremy Hill (55th to Cincinnati), but he may be the best back in the draft. He'll join a crowded backfield in San Francisco behind Frank Gore and Marcus Lattimore, who missed all of 2013 after suffering a catastrophic knee injury in college.
Marcus Lattimore, RB5/6/2014 5:59:00 PM
Description: San Francisco running back Marcus Lattimore concedes that he still lacks the first-step burst and explosiveness through the hole that he had prior to tearing the ACL, MCL and PCL in his left knee in 2012. SOURCE: mercurynews.com
Insight: Lattimore had 2,677 rushing yards and 38 rushing touchdowns in three years at South Carolina but suffered the catastrophic knee injury in October 2012. The 49ers took a chance on him with a fourth-round pick in the 2013 NFL Draft. Lattimore is expected to compete for a job as Frank Gore's backup this season.
Aldon Smith, LB5/2/2014 8:24:00 PM
Description: Not only are the 49ers keeping Aldon Smith, they've decided to pick up his option for 2015.
Insight: Obviously the team is confident he'll be able to put his off-field issues behind him. Smith watched his sack total fall from 19.5 in 2012 to just 8.5 last season but that's partly because he missed five games while attending rehab for alcohol abuse.
Aldon Smith, LB4/18/2014 9:10:00 PM
Description: Updating a previous item, the 49ers are no longer planning to cut troubled linebacker Aldon Smith. SOURCE: NFL.com
Insight: Smith has had a laundry list of off-field distractions to deal with over the last two years but he's still one of the most talented pass rushers in football. Let's see if he can take advantage of the second chance the 49ers are giving him.
Aldon Smith, LB4/15/2014 6:36:00 PM
Description: Aldon Smith's latest run-in with the law could cost him his roster spot with the 49ers. SOURCE: Tim Kawakami, San Jose Mercury News
Insight: It's been a rough offseason for the Niners with Colin Kaepernick being investigated for an incident in Miami and now Smith possibly facing charges for an alleged false bomb threat at LAX. This comes after Smith missed five games last season while going to rehab for alcohol abuse. For all his bad habits off the field, Smith has logged an impressive 42 sacks over his last three seasons.
Brandon Lloyd, WR4/15/2014 1:50:00 PM
Description: Wide receiver Brandon Lloyd has been signed by the San Francisco 49ers, the team that originally drafted him in 2003.
Insight: Lloyd didn't play in the NFL last season, but caught 74 balls for 911 yards and four touchdowns in 2012 with New England. He figures to be San Francisco's No. 4 target behind Michael Crabtree, Anquan Boldin and Vernon Davis.
Colin Kaepernick, QB4/10/2014 9:54:00 PM
Description: San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick and two other NFL players are being investigated by Miami police about a "suspicious indicent" involving a woman at a hotel earlier this month.
Insight: Miami Police Dept. public information officer Rene Pimentel initially told USA Today Sports that the investigation was for sexual assault but he amended his statement and says that the Special Victims Unit is investigating a "suspicious indicent." "There are no charges, definitely not. There is an investigation," Pimentel said.
Jonathan Martin, T3/11/2014 10:30:00 PM
Description: The Dolphins have traded tackle Jonathan Martin to San Francisco. SOURCE: Adam Schefter, ESPN
Insight: Miami will receive a conditional draft pick. Martin left the team halfway through last season after being harassed by Richie Incognito and a few of the team's other offensive linemen. Martin was coached by Jim Harbaugh in college so this seems like a good fit.
Blaine Gabbert, QB3/11/2014 6:05:00 PM
Description: The Jaguars shipped quarterback Blaine Gabbert to the 49ers on Tuesday. SOURCE: Adam Schefter, ESPN
Insight: Jacksonville is getting a sixth-round pick for him. Gabbert's only chance to play next season will be if Colin Kaepernick gets injured. He's shown us very little in his first three years in the league (22 TD, 24 INT, 66.4 rating in 28 career games).
Colin Kaepernick, QB3/4/2014 6:49:00 PM
Description: Niners QB Colin Kaepernick was one of the best QBs in the NFL last season and now he wants to get paid like it. SOURCE: Boston Globe
Insight: Kaepernick (21 TD, 91.6 QB rating in 2013) says he wants Jay Cutler money, which would pay him roughly $18 million a year. He'll be a free agent in 2015, though if a deal isn't reached, San Francisco could always place the franchise tag on him.
Anquan Boldin, WR2/23/2014 3:33:00 PM
Description: The 49ers are close to re-signing wide receiver Anquan Boldin. SOURCE: Adam Schefter, ESPN
Insight: Boldin was sensational last season, hauling in a team-high 85 catches for 1,179 yards. Fantasy owners shouldn't be worried about Boldin's age (33) but it's worth noting that most of Boldin's numbers in 2013 came with Michael Crabtree (torn Achilles) out of the lineup. Crabtree being back at 100 percent could spell trouble for Boldin in 2014.
NaVorro Bowman, LB1/20/2014 9:03:00 PM
Description: An MRI revealed that San Francisco linebacker Navorro Bowman suffered a torn left ACL and MCL during the NFC Championship Game Sunday. SOURCE: espn.com
Insight: Bowman will have surgery to repair the ACL, but the MCL is expected to heal on its own. A source told Adam Schefter that Bowman is expected to return for the start of the 2014 season, but that seems overly optimistic. One of the top linebackers in football, Bowman has recorded at least 140 tackles in three straight seasons and had five sacks, four forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, two interceptions and one touchdown in 2013 while making the NFL All-Pro first team.
Ahmad Brooks, LB1/17/2014 12:45:00 PM
Description: Niners linebacker Ahmad Brooks missed Wednesday's practice due to illness, but was back on the field Thursday, according to a San Jose Mercury report.
Insight: Brooks was never in danger of missing Sunday's game. He's the least known member of one of the league's best linebacking corps along with Patrick Willis, NaVorro Bowman and Aldon Smith.
Carlos Rogers, CB1/16/2014 9:25:00 AM
Description: San Francisco CB Carlos Rogers (hamstring) sat out Sunday's NFC Divisional Playoff against Carolina, but returned to limited practice on Wednesday and is questionable for Sunday versus Seattle.
Insight: We're still not sure whether Rogers will be ready to be an every down cornerback so we will continue to monitor his progress. The 49ers haven't missed a beat on defense despite a number of injuries.
Frank Gore, RB1/16/2014 9:20:00 AM
Description: San Francisco running back Frank Gore is dealing with a sore knee, but is probable for Sunday's NFC Championship against Seattle.
Insight: Gore had a tough day against Carolina, but still managed 92 yards from scrimmage. He faces another tough run defense Sunday as Seattle yielded the fewest total yards this season (4,378) and seventh fewest rushing yards (1,626).
Michael Crabtree, WR1/16/2014 9:12:00 AM
Description: Michael Crabtree's wrist has landed him on the injury report, though he is expected to be ready for Sunday's NFC Championship against Seattle, according to Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee.
Insight: Crabtree struggled against Carolina after a big day versus the Packers in the Wild Card round. He's Colin Kaepernick's favorite target.
Will Tukuafu, FB/DT1/13/2014 9:56:00 AM
Description: Fullback Will Tukuafu suffered an MCL sprain in Sunday's game against Carolina and is questionable for the NFC Championship against Seattle.
Insight: Tukuafo was filling in for Bruce Miller meaning if he can't play the 49ers could be down to their third-string blocker/fourth-string running back Anthony Dixon.
Anquan Boldin, WR1/12/2014 4:38:00 PM
Description: Niners wideout Anquan Boldin came to play Sunday against Carolina.
Insight: The veteran led all receivers with 136 yards on eight catches. Boldin didn't score in the game as Captain Munnerlyn pulled him down at the two after breaking off a 45-yard gain in the third quarter. Going back to last season, Boldin has caught 30 passes for 516 yards in his last five playoff games. His teams (he played for the Ravens in 2012) have won all five games.
Carlos Rogers, CB1/12/2014 11:51:00 AM
Description: San Francisco CB Carlos Rogers (hamstring) will sit out Sunday's NFC Divisional Playoff against Carolina.
Insight: Rogers missed the 49ers' win over Green Bay in the Wild Card round. Carolina's receiving corps is also limited with Steve Smith playing with a sprained PCL.
Carlos Rogers, CB1/10/2014 2:49:00 PM
Description: Forty-Niners CB Carlos Rogers (hamstring) missed Sunday's game with Green Bay and is not likely to return Sunday's NFC Divisional Playoff against Carolina though he is still listed as questionable.
Insight: Rogers missed another practice Friday. The good news is that the Carolina receiving corps may also be limited if Steve Smith can't run.
Carlos Rogers, CB1/6/2014 1:33:00 PM
Description: Forty-Niners CB Carlos Rogers (hamstring) missed Sunday's game with Green Bay and is is questionable for Sunday's NFC Divisional Playoff against Carolina.
Insight: Rogers hamstring probably would have had a tough time in five degree weather. He'll have a better chance to play in Carolina this weekend. He's a top corner when healthy.
Colin Kaepernick, QB1/5/2014 8:46:00 PM
Description: San Francisco quarterback Colin Kaepernick didn't have a ton of success throwing the football Sunday against the Packers (16-for-30, 227 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT) but he made up for it by running the ball seven times for 98 yards.
Insight: Kaepernick's longest run of the day came on a 42-yard sprint in the second quarter. With the victory, Kaepernick improved to 3-1 in his career in the postseason.
Michael Crabtree, WR1/5/2014 8:42:00 PM
Description: Michael Crabtree continues to be Colin Kaepernick's preferred target. The 49ers wideout totaled 125 yards on eight catches Sunday in a win over Green Bay.
Insight: Crabtree owns the Packers. In five career games against them, he's averaged 88.4 ypg. Next week, the Niners are headed to Carolina for a date with the Panthers. Crabtree corralled four passes for 31 yards when he faced them back in 2010.
Carlos Rogers, CB1/2/2014 4:00:00 PM
Description: Forty-Niners CB Carlos Rogers' hamstring isn't as severely injured as first thought, according to the team's website.
Insight: Rogers missed Wednesday's practice and was expected to try to get on the field for Thursday. He's questionable for Sunday against Aaron Rodgers and Co. Facing Jordy Nelson, James Jones and a healthy Randall Cobb could be tough without Rogers.
Mario Manningham, WR12/27/2013 7:53:00 PM
Description: The Niners have placed Mario Manningham on season-ending injured reserve.
Insight: Manningham's surgically-repaired knee is still giving him problems. Even if he comes back healthy next season, Manningham is just too big a risk for fantasy owners. He shouldn't be drafted next fall.
Quinton Patton, WR12/23/2013 7:54:00 PM
Description: San Francisco wideout Quinton Patton (foot) will make his first appearance since breaking his foot in Week 4 Monday against the Falcons. Mario Manningham (knee) is inactive.
Insight: The injury robbed the promising rookie of a chance to have fantasy relevance, as the 49ers were desperate for receivers earlier this season.
Michael Crabtree, WR12/15/2013 6:21:00 PM
Description: San Francisco receiver Michael Crabtree scored his first touchdown of the season Sunday at Tampa Bay.
Insight: Crabtree has caught 11 of his 18 targets for 153 yards in three games since making his season debut.
Vernon Davis, TEHot12/15/2013 6:19:00 PM
Description: San Francisco tight end Vernon Davis extended his touchdown streak to five games in Week 15.
Insight: Davis had 79 yards on five catches at Tampa Bay, giving him 49 catches, 805 yards and 12 touchdowns in 13 games this season. He's one TD away from tying his career high.
Mario Manningham, WRCold12/15/2013 12:01:00 PM
Description: As expected, 49ers wideout Mario Manningham will be active for Sunday's game against the Bucs.
Insight: Manningham doesn't have much of a role with the return of Michael Crabtree, so he should not be started. he's the fourth option behind Crabtree, Anquan Boldin and Vernon Davis.
Frank Gore, RB12/15/2013 11:59:00 AM
Description: San Francisco running back Frank Gore was limited in practice while dealing with an apparent ankle injury, but is active for the game against the Tampa Bay
Insight: Gore should be started as always. He's posted double-digit carries in 12 of 13 games this season and should get his normal 13-17 carries a game versus the Bucs.
Joe Staley, T12/2/2013 2:38:00 PM
Description: San Francisco offensive tackle Joe Staley will miss Sunday's game against Seattle with a right knee injury.
Insight: Staley an MRI will tell how many weeks he'll be sidelined. As one of the league's best, his absence will be felt.
Michael Crabtree, WR12/2/2013 11:11:00 AM
Description: San Francisco receiver Michael Crabtree ended up playing more snaps than anyone expected - 42 of 67 plays.
Insight: Crabtree missed the Niners' first 11 games while rehabbing a torn Achilles tendon. He caught two of four targets for 68 yards. If the 49ers continue to increase Crabtree's snap count over the next games, Crabtree could be a viable fantasy playoff option.
Vernon Davis, TE12/1/2013 7:42:00 PM
Description: San Francisco tight end Vernon Davis caught a touchdown for the third straight game Sunday against the Rams
Insight: Davis had 82 yards on four catches in the game, giving him 42 receptions, 705 yards and 10 touchdowns in 11 games this season. He's the best fantasy tight end not named Rob Gronkowski or Jimmy Graham.
Michael Crabtree, WR12/1/2013 7:39:00 PM
Description: San Francisco receiver Michael Crabtree had two catches for 68 yards on four targets in his season debut Sunday against St. Louis.
Insight: Crabtree missed the Niners' first 11 games while rehabbing a torn Achilles tendon. His day would have been quiet had he not hauled in a 60-yard bomb. The 49ers likely will continue to increase Crabtree's snap count over the final four games.
Frank Gore, RB12/1/2013 2:59:00 PM
Description: San Francisco running back Frank Gore was limited in practice while dealing with an apparent ankle injury, but is active for the game against the Rams.
Insight: Gore played less than his normal workload in the 49ers Monday night win over Washington due to the ankle, but should be ready for normal usage versus St. Louis on Sunday.
Michael Crabtree, WR11/29/2013 6:37:00 PM
Description: It's official. San Francisco receiver Michael Crabtree will make his season debut Sunday against the Rams. SOURCE: Matt Maiocco, Comcast Sportsnet Bay Area
Insight: Crabtree missed the Niners' first 11 games while rehabbing a torn Achilles tendon. Similar to Percy Harvin two weeks ago in Seattle, he's likely to be on a snap count. This week we have him at No. 49 in our TSN wide receiver rankings.
Frank Gore, RB11/29/2013 9:55:00 AM
Description: San Francisco running back Frank Gore was limited in practice while dealing with an apparent ankle injury.
Insight: Gore played less than his normal workload in the 49ers Monday night win over Washington due to the ankle, but should be ready for St. Louis on Sunday.
Michael Crabtree, WR11/26/2013 11:02:00 AM
Description: Niners wideout Michael Crabtree (Achilles) is expected to be activated from the PUP list Tuesday and play against the St. Louis Rams on Sunday.
Insight: Crabtree has been practicing for several weeks and could be a flex option against the Rams' 22nd-ranked pass defense in Week 13. He'll likely ramp up his workload over the next few weeks and could be a major factor by Weeks 15 and 16.
Mario Manningham, WR11/25/2013 8:39:00 PM
Description: As expected, 49ers wideout Mario Manningham (knee) will be active for Monday's game against the Redskins.
Insight: Manningham was listed as questionable but there was never any doubt about his availability. He should have a chance to do some damage against Washington's 26th-ranked pass defense.
Michael Crabtree, WR11/25/2013 5:47:00 PM
Description: Though Niners wideout Michael Crabtree (Achilles) won't play on Monday, ESPN's Adam Schefter expects he'll return next week against St. Louis.
Insight: Crabtree still hasn't been activated from the PUP list though that could change in the next 24 hours. He's been practicing for several weeks and could be a flex option against the Rams' 22nd-ranked pass defense in Week 13.
Mario Manningham, WR11/25/2013 9:42:00 AM
Description: San Francisco receiver Mario Manningham is listed on the injury report as questionable, but he is expected to play Monday night against Washington.
Insight: It's a good matchup for the 49ers passing offense, but Manningham is the No. 3 target behind Vernon Davis and Anquan Boldin. He's caught just four passes for 38 yards over the past two games. And the 49ers are one of the most run-oriented teams in the league.
Michael Crabtree, WR11/25/2013 9:36:00 AM
Description: San Francisco receiver Michael Crabtree, still on the PUP list, should be activated by the Tuesday deadline, but obviously won't play in Week 12 and is questionable for Week 13.
Insight: Crabtree's torn Achilles seems to be healing well, but that doesn't mean he'll play the moment he's moved to the active list.
Ahmad Brooks, LB11/20/2013 2:56:00 PM
Description: Niners linebacker Ahmad Brooks was slapped with a $15,750 fine for his hit on Drew Brees during Sunday's loss to New Orleans. SOURCE: Adam Schefter, ESPN
Insight: The satire website, Sports Pickle, mocked the play with a headline reading "49ers stupidly sack a popular QB late, draw penalty, lose." Sadly, that mock headline wasn't far off from the truth. ESPN analysts Ray Lewis and Tedy Bruschi were so fired up about the controversial play that they offered to cover part of Brooks' fine. Time to ante up, fellas.
Vernon Davis, TE11/17/2013 3:04:00 PM
Description: San Francisco tight end Vernon Davis (concussion) passed his impact test and is active for Sunday's key matchup with New Orleans.
Insight: Davis has not experienced concussion symptoms and practiced throughout the week. Start him as a top-five tight end.
Vernon Davis, TE11/17/2013 1:05:00 PM
Description: San Francisco tight end Vernon Davis (concussion) passed his impact test and is expected to play Sunday afternoon at New Orleans. SOURCE: Matt Maiocco, csnbayarea.com
Insight: Davis has not experienced concussion symptoms and practiced throughout the week, so he should be ready to go Sunday. Start him as a top-five tight end.
Vernon Davis, TE11/16/2013 8:51:00 PM
Description: San Francisco tight end Vernon Davis (concussion) is on track to play Sunday against New Orleans, according to the Sacramento Bee.
Insight: Davis has not experienced concussion symptoms and practiced throughout the week. He went through the final step of the NFL's post-concussion protocal -- a simulated impact drill -- Friday. As long as he didn't experience symptoms Saturday, he'll play Sunday.
Michael Crabtree, WR11/16/2013 10:12:00 AM
Description: San Francisco head coach Jim Harbaugh finally acknowledged Saturday that injured 49ers receiver Michael Crabtree is unlikely to play this week against New Orleans. SOURCE: NBC's Pro Football Talk
Insight: Crabtree's torn Achilles seems to be healing nicely but coming back in Week 11 was always a bit of a stretch. A return next week versus Washington or the week after against St. Louis would be far more realistic.
Michael Crabtree, WR11/13/2013 9:13:00 PM
Description: Niners wideout Michael Crabtree still hasn't been ruled out for Sunday's game against New Orleans. SOURCE: Comcast Sportsnet Bay Area
Insight: Crabtree's torn Achilles is fully healed and he's been practicing for almost two weeks. Week 11 is still a longshot for Crabtree but it's a reminder that he should be owned in all formats.
Vernon Davis, TE11/13/2013 3:32:00 PM
Description: San Francisco tight end Vernon Davis (concussion) has been cleared for non-contact participation in practice. SOURCE: Matt Maiocco, csnbayarea.com
Insight: Coach Jim Harbaugh said that Davis is not experiencing any concussion symptoms. The tight end should be able to play Sunday against the Saints.
Vernon Davis, TE11/12/2013 8:14:00 PM
Description: San Francisco tight end Vernon Davis says he feels fine just two days after suffering a concussion. SOURCE: Cam Inman, Mercury News
Insight: He seems confident that he'll be cleared to play on Sunday. Only three tight ends in the league have averaged more fantasy points per game than Davis this season (10.1 ppg in standard scoring).
Kyle Williams, WR11/12/2013 6:31:00 PM
Description: The Niners released wide receiver Kyle Williams on Tuesday. SOURCE: Adam Caplan, ESPN
Insight: He won't be needed now that Mario Manningham has returned from injury and Michael Crabtree is on his way back too. Williams hasn't had a very productive year. In nine games, he's only reeled in 12 catches for 113 yards. None of those catches went for touchdowns.
Vernon Davis, TE11/10/2013 5:25:00 PM
Description: Niners tight end Vernon Davis suffered an apparent concussion in Sunday's game with Carolina and will not return.
Insight: Davis has been one of the league's top tight ends this season with 29 receptions for 518 yards and seven touchdowns. He'll finish the day with just one catch for two yards.
LaMichael James, RB11/8/2013 12:39:00 PM
Description: San Francisco 49ers backup running back LaMichael James will replace Kyle Williams in punt and kickoff returns in Week 10.
Insight: The team is trying to get James more touches and with little room to run behind Frank Gore and Kendall Hunter this is the only option available. He's still not likely to produce enough yardage to be fantasy worthy.
Mario Manningham, WR11/6/2013 9:03:00 PM
Description: San Francisco receiver Mario Manningham is not listed on the injury report at all heading into Week 10.
Insight: Manningham tore both his ACL and PCL in December 2012, but he's ready to return. San Francisco wideouts have had trouble separating from defenders this season, so Manningham could emerge as Colin Kaepernick's No. 2 target behind Vernon Davis if he regains his pre-injury form. However, he doesn't need to be added immediately outside of 14-team leagues.
Aldon Smith, LB11/6/2013 10:09:00 AM
Description: San Francisco linebacker Aldon Smith could be ready to return to game action as soon as this week. SOURCE: Comcast Sportsnet Bay Area
Insight: Smith hasn't missed a beat since returning from a five-week stay in rehab. Assuming his off the field issues are a thing of the past, Smith should be able to return to the level that made him one of the most feared linebackers in football a season ago.
Nnamdi Asomugha, CB11/6/2013 10:06:00 AM
Description: Nobody claimed cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha during his 24-hour waiver period.
Insight: That makes him a free agent. As disappointing as Asomugha was during his stays in Philadelphia and San Francisco, someone is bound to take a chance on the three-time Pro Bowler at some point.
Michael Crabtree, WR11/5/2013 1:46:00 PM
Description: San Francisco receiver Michael Crabtree has officially been cleared to practice.
Insight: Crabtree is recovering from a torn Achilles. He has three weeks to get in shape before the team has to activate him. Week 13 appears to be the target date.
Nnamdi Asomugha, CB11/4/2013 8:15:00 PM
Description: The 49ers cut cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha on Monday. SOURCE: Ian Rapoport, NFL.com
Insight: Technically, he's been placed on waivers but it's unlikely that anyone would claim him. The 32-year-old has only been active for three games this season.
Mario Manningham, WR11/4/2013 7:26:00 PM
Description: Niners receiver Mario Manningham has been activated from the physically unable to perform list.
Insight: He's expected to start next week's game versus Carolina. Manningham tore both his ACL and PCL in a game 11 months ago.
Aldon Smith, LB10/31/2013 9:53:00 PM
Description: The Niners have officially activated troubled linebacker Aldon Smith. SOURCE: 49ers on Twitter
Insight: Smith missed five games while attending rehab for alcohol abuse. He'll make his return to the field next week against the Panthers.
Colin Kaepernick, QB10/27/2013 6:51:00 PM
Description: Niners QB Colin Kaepernick didn't throw for a lot of yards on Sunday (just 164) but he was still able to reward his fantasy owners by scoring three touchdowns.
Insight: Two of those touchdowns came on the ground. As long as Kaepernick continues to use his legs (294 rushing yards this season), he's going to be a productive fantasy quarterback.
Frank Gore, RBHot10/27/2013 6:49:00 PM
Description: Niners halfback Frank Gore produced another solid fantasy outing Sunday against the Jaguars (19 rushes, 71 yards, 2 TD).
Insight: Gore doesn't have the jets of a C.J. Spiller or a Chris Johnson but he might be the most consistent running back in the league. He's rushed for at least 70 yards in each of his last six games with six end zone scampers over that span. Fantasy owners will miss him when he goes on bye next week.
Frank Gore, RBHot10/20/2013 7:41:00 PM
Description: The Titans held Frank Gore to 70 rushing yards on 24 carries (2.9 ypc) Sunday afternoon, but he had 34 receiving yards on two catches and scored two touchdowns.
Insight: Gore has produced RB1 numbers -- 542 total yards, four touchdowns -- over the last five games after picking up just 95 yards on 33 touches the first two games. He's averaging 21.5 carries per game in four games since he voiced complaints about his usage to coach Jim Harbaugh.
Vernon Davis, TE10/20/2013 3:05:00 AM
Description: Niners tight end Vernon Davis was dealing with a hamstring injury during the week, but is active as expected for Sundfay's matchup with Tennessee.
Insight: Davis was a man among boys last week posting eight catches for 180 yards and two scores and can be counted on this Sunday.
Vernon Davis, TE10/13/2013 8:13:00 PM
Description: Niners tight end Vernon Davis was an unstoppable force Sunday against Arizona.
Insight: Davis broke free for eight catches and a career-high 180 receiving yards in the 49ers' 32-20 win. Davis has scored in every game he's played this season with just one exception: a Week 2 loss at Seattle. As far as tight ends go, you're not going to find many better ones than Davis in San Francisco.
Aldon Smith, LB10/13/2013 11:19:00 AM
Description: The 49ers are prepared to play the season without linebacker Aldon Smith. SOURCE: Adam Schefter, ESPN
Insight: Smith, who has a history of substance abuse, is currently in a rehab clinic trying to get clean. His off-field issues including two separate arrests, aren't close to being resolved. Football is probably the last thing on Smith's mind right now.
Michael Crabtree, WR10/7/2013 8:27:00 PM
Description: Jim Harbaugh suspects that 49ers receiver Michael Crabtree will be "game-ready" sometime next month. SOURCE: Matt Barrows, Sacramento Bee
Insight: Crabtree is still recovering from a torn Achilles. A return in mid-to-late November seems like the most likely scenario.
Ray McDonald, DT10/7/2013 11:22:00 AM
Description: San Francisco DE Ray McDonald suffered a biceps injury in the third quarter Sunday night and didn't return to the game.
Insight: McDonald will have an MRI on Monday. Meanwhile, the 49ers are paper-thin on the defensive line, so any long-term loss would be particularly painful.
Patrick Willis, LB10/5/2013 10:01:00 AM
Description: 49ers inside linebacker Patrick Willis is listed as questionable ahead of Week 5's tilt against the Texans, though the team's defensive coordinator Vic Fangio believes he has a better than 50 percent shot at playing on Sunday. SOURCE: Comcast Bay Area
Insight: Willis missed last week's contest against St. Louis because of a pulled groin but he's been practicing all week. Expect the six-time Pro Bowler and former first-round pick to be on the field Sunday night at Candlestick Park.
Vernon Davis, TE10/4/2013 9:52:00 PM
Description: San Francisco tight end Vernon Davis (hamstring) is questionable for Sunday night's game against Houston, but he's expected to play.
Insight: Davis missed Week 3 due to the injury but returned last Thursday against the Rams and caught a touchdown. He's had plenty of time to rest his hamstring since then.
Patrick Willis, LB10/3/2013 9:49:00 AM
Description: Niners linebacker Patrick Willis will probably be a game-time decision this week against Houston. SOURCE: Sacramento Bee
Insight: Willis sat out last week's game because of a pulled groin. He's making progress but there's no guarantee he'll be ready for Sunday.
John Skelton, QB10/3/2013 9:44:00 AM
Description: The 49ers signed quarterback John Skelton on Tuesday. SOURCE: Matt Barrows, Sacramento Bee
Insight: He'll be a distant third behind Colin Kaepernick and Colt McCoy on San Francisco's quarterback depth chart. Unless both of them get injured, Skelton won't see the field this season.
Jon Baldwin, WR9/28/2013 12:31:00 PM
Description: 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh said receiver Jon Baldwin will see "more action" going forward, according to ProFootballTalk.com.
Insight: Baldwin, a former Chiefs first-round pick who was traded to the 49ers in August for fellow first-round bust A.J. Jenkins, was inactive for the first three games before catching two passes for 19 yards Thursday against the Rams. With rookie Quinton Patton out indefinitely with a broken foot, San Francisco is desperate for receiving help opposite Anquan Boldin.
Mario Manningham, WR9/27/2013 8:48:00 PM
Description: According to Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee, 49ers receiver Mario Manningham (knee) is on track to return to practice after Week 6.
Insight: Manningham isn't likely to be a reliable fantasy option but at least he'll be able to get open consistently, which should help Colin Kaepernick and the rest of San Francisco's passing offense.
Quinton Patton, WR9/27/2013 8:47:00 PM
Description: San Francisco wideout Quinton Patton suffered a fractured foot Thursday against the Rams, according to SFGate.com.
Insight: Patton played often in the first quarter and was likely to assume a more prominent role in the offense going forward as the team's No. 2 receiver, but he'll miss an extended period of time. The rookie won't be placed on injured reserve, so he'll be back at some point.
Patrick Willis, LB9/26/2013 8:06:00 PM
Description: San Francisco linebacker Patrick Willis is out for Thursday's game versus the Rams.
Insight: He's been battling a groin injury and hasn't practiced all week. It's a huge blow for the 49ers, who will also be without their best pass rusher Aldon Smith (rehab).
Vernon Davis, TE9/26/2013 7:27:00 PM
Description: San Francisco tight end Vernon Davis is active for Thursday's contest against St. Louis. He missed Week 3 with a hamstring injury.
Insight: The Niners looked lost without him last week. Davis should see plenty of targets in Week 4.
Frank Gore, RB9/26/2013 4:11:00 PM
Description: San Francisco 49ers tailback Frank Gore (knee) is probable for Thursday's game against the Rams, according to CSNBayArea.com.
Insight: Gore banged his left knee during San Francisco's loss to the Colts Sunday, but he was never in danger of missing Thursday's game. Gore had 82 yards on 11 carries against the Colts but the 49ers went away from the run, leading to Gore having some words with coach Jim Harbaugh Sunday. Look for him to carry the football early and often Thursday against a Rams team that allowed a big game to DeMarco Murray in Week 3.
Vernon Davis, TE9/24/2013 8:49:00 PM
Description: San Francisco 49ers tight end Vernon Davis (hamstring) has practiced in a limited capacity in each of the last two days.
Insight: Davis is likely to be a game-time decision again Thursday against the Rams after missing Sunday's game. San Francisco's receivers have had a difficult time getting open over the last two weeks, and a healthy Davis is necessary to open things up.
Patrick Willis, LB9/24/2013 6:54:00 PM
Description: San Francisco All-Pro linebacker Patrick Willis (groin) said he is "hopeful" that he'll play Thursday against the Rams, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com.
Insight: Willis left Sunday's game with a groin injury and doesn't have a lot of time to heal with the 49ers on a short week. With Aldon Smith out while he deals with alcohol issues, the 49ers defense could be down two of its best players Thursday.
Aldon Smith, LB9/23/2013 8:12:00 PM
Description: According to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com, 49ers linebacker Aldon Smith is expected to be out for the next month.
Insight: Smith checked himself into rehab after Sunday's loss to the Colts. The 23-year-old was second in the league in sacks last season with 19.5. He has 3.5 sacks in his first three games this season.
Patrick Willis, LB9/23/2013 4:40:00 PM
Description: San Francisco All-Pro linebacker Patrick Willis injured his groin and is not expected to be available for Thursday's game with St. Louis.
Insight: Willis will have an MRI on Monday night, but with just four days until the next game its unlikely that he can rehab in time. Add in Aldon Smith being placed on the reserve/NFI list and you have a vastly weaker 49ers' defense.
Vernon Davis, TE9/23/2013 3:06:00 PM
Description: San Francisco 49ers tight end Vernon Davis (hamstring) did not play Sunday against the Colts and only has a few more days to recover as the team is scheduled for the Thursday night game in Week 4.
Insight: Davis was a true game-time decision, but the team might have held him out to have him ready for the divisional battle with St. Louis. Rookie Vance McDonald caught one pass for six yards in Davis' absence as isn't a fantasy option.
Aldon Smith, LB9/22/2013 8:05:00 PM
Description: According to ProFootballTalk.com, 49ers CEO Jed York said after Sunday's game that Aldon Smith will not play Thursday.
Insight: He was arrested for suspicion of DUI Friday, the second alcohol-related incident of his three-year career. He played Sunday against the Colts but could be entering rehab for alcohol abuse. Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com reports that Smith's locker at Candlestick Park is "completely empty."
Colin Kaepernick, QBCold9/22/2013 7:21:00 PM
Description: San Francisco quarterback Colin Kaepernick only completed 13-of-27 for 150 yards with a pick and a lost fumble Sunday against the Colts.
Insight: We could excuse Kaepernick's subpar effort last week at Seattle when the Seahawks fans set a new world record for loudest crowd, but this game was at home against a defense that let Terrelle Pryor and Ryan Tannehill post strong numbers in the last two weeks. The 49ers play again Thursday against the Rams, so Vernon Davis (hamstring) doesn't have much time to get healthy after missing Sunday's game. Given the usual sloppiness that comes with Thursday night games, fantasy owners should consider benching Kaepernick in Week 4.
Vernon Davis, TE9/22/2013 3:16:00 PM
Description: San Francisco 49ers tight end Vernon Davis (hamstring) will not play Sunday against the Colts.
Insight: Davis has been dealing with a hamstring injury all week and was a game-time decision. Rookie Vance McDonald will draw the start.
Vernon Davis, TE9/22/2013 11:47:00 AM
Description: San Francisco 49ers tight end Vernon Davis (hamstring) will be a game-time decision for Sunday's contest against the Colts. SOURCE: Adam Schefter, ESPN
Insight: San Francisco's game doesn't start until 4:25 p.m. ET Sunday, which puts fantasy owners in a tough spot. Tony Gonzalez, Coby Fleener, Martellus Bennett, Heath Miller and Julius Thomas are the other fantasy-worthy tight ends playing in the late games this week.
Vernon Davis, TE9/20/2013 7:19:00 PM
Description: San Francisco 49ers tight end Vernon Davis (hamstring) hasn't received medical clearance for Sunday's game against the Colts.
Insight: According to Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee, Davis seems least likely to play out of all of San Francisco's questionable players. San Francisco's game doesn't start until 4:25 p.m. ET Sunday, so fantasy owners could be put in a tough spot if Davis is a game-time decision.
Aldon Smith, LB9/20/2013 2:18:00 PM
Description: According to San Jose Police, 49ers OLB Aldon Smith was arrested early Friday morning for suspicion of driving under the influence and marijuana possession after a one-car accident, reports Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com.
Insight: This would be his second DUI as he was also arrested in January 2012. A suspension might be coming, but given the speed of the court system, it probably won't be until next season.
Vernon Davis, TE9/18/2013 12:18:00 PM
Description: San Francisco 49ers tight end Vernon Davis' hamstring injury shouldn't be a problem if his tweet is accurate. It said "No need to worry y'all. My leg is feeling great just need a little rest til kickoff."
Insight: Davis and the 49ers had a tough matchup last week, but should rebound against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 3.
