Description: Jets receiver Percy Harvin is not expected to be a major factor for Week 8's matchup against Buffalo.
Insight: Coach Rex Ryan declared that it is "unrealistic" to expect Harvin to play 50 offensive snaps, without knowing the entire offense. He will likely handle kickoff and punt return duties, along with seeing around 20-to-25 snaps on the offensive side of the ball. Consider Harvin a WR4 until he is guarenteed more game action.
Description: The Seahawks have traded Percy Harvin to the Jets for a conditional pick, according to Jay Glazer. UPDATE: The coniditional pick will be in the range from a second-to-fourth-round pick, according to John Clayton.
Insight: The timing is weird, as Harvin is dealing with a thigh injury, but it is a nice pickup for the Jets nonetheless. Harvin has not produced much from a fantasy standpoint, and his value takes even more of a hit with this move to New York.
Description: Jets rookie tight end Jace Amaro had 10 catches for 68 yards and a touchdown against the Broncos in Week 6.
Insight: The Jets offense is a mess, but Eric Decker and Jace Amaro are the only players worth owning on the unit. Decker and Amaro will give owners spotty productive just because Geno Smith cannot be counted on week-to-week.
Description: It has gotten worse and worse for Jets running back Chris Johnson.
Insight: Johnson has three carries for nine yards as the Jets gained just 31 yards rushing on 15 attempts. Chris Ivory had eight rushes for seven yards. The Jets offense is a disaster. It would be better to stay away from the entire unit.
Description: Jets quarterback Geno Smith was a little better in Week 6, throwing for 190 yards on 23-for-43 attempts, two touchdowns and one interception.
Insight: That's not saying much considering Rex Ryan pulled Smith from his Week 5 start, and Smith likely only received another chance because Michael Vick admited he wasn't prepared. Smith also gained 11 rushing yards. Hopefully, owners don't have him in leagues.
Description: Jets receiver Eric Decker is active for Week 6 against his old teammates the Broncos.
Insight: After sitting out Week 5, Decker has been targeting this game and will be on the field. Whether he can play the entire 60 minutes is another question as is whether he can be effective versus a top-10 passing defense.
Description: Jets running back Chris Johnson was not pretty in Week 5 rushing for just 24 yards on seven carries.
Insight: Johnson and Chris Ivory are getting very similar workloads and neither can produce fantasy-worthy statistics in this RBBC situation. It doesn't help that the Jets are 30th in scoring with just 79 points, so opportunities to score are few and far between.
Description: Had Jets backup QB Michael Vick produced any points in the second half, we might have a controversy in New York.
Insight: Vick was almost as ugly as starter Geno Smith, going 8-of-19 for just 47 yards. At this point the team might as well stay with Smith to see whether the youngster will eventually develop into a starting NFL quarterback.
Description: Jets coach Rex Ryan admitted that receiver Eric Decker will "probably be limited bit" in Sunday's game against the Lions due to a hamstring injury according to ESPN New York.
Insight: Decker was active last week but only played 12 snaps. At this point, fantasy owners would like Decker to not play at all rather than reaagravate the injury and miss more time. Do not start Decker this week.
Description: Jets receiver Eric Decker returned to practice on Thursday according to ESPN New York.
Insight: This is a good sign, but Decker will likely still be a game-time decision for Week 4. With again the chance of reaggravation, fantasy owners wouldn't mind seeing Decker sit out this week to recover for Week 5.
Description: Jets receiver Eric Decker (hamstring) told ESPN sideline reporter Lisa Salters that he will play in Monday night's game against the Bears. UPDATE: Decker is active for Monday night football
Insight: He plans to play on Monday, but it is still unclear how involved he will be. Being how much the Bears have struggled against the run the past year, the Jets will likely run the ball a lot, which keeps Decker's ceiling low.
Description: Jets receiver Eric Decker (hamstring) did not practice again on Friday and is listed as questionable for Monday's game against Chicago.
Insight: The current plan is for Decker to test out his hamstring on Saturday. Head coach Rex Ryan is confident that his receiver will be ready for Monday night's game against the Bears and as the last game of the weekend doesn't leave fantasy owners many options should he not be ready to go.
Description: Jets cornerback Dee Milliner is questionable for Monday's game against Chicago.
Insight: Having to face Brandon Marshall and Alshon Jeffery with backup defensive backs isn't an exciting thought for coach Rex Ryan, but there are more than a few fantasy owners who can't wait to see what the Bears receivers can do.
Description: Jets receiver Eric Decker (hamstring) did not practice on Thursday according to ESPN New York.
Insight: The current plan is for Decker to test out his hamstring on Saturday. Head coach Rex Ryan is confident that his receiver will be ready for Monday night's game against the Bears, but Saturday will be the final word. For now, fantasy owners should go with another wide out this weekend.
Description: Jets receiver Eric Decker left Sunday's game due to a hamstring injury.
Insight: Decker's injury was the same one that he dealt with in the preseason which seems to be lingering. We should know later in the week about his status for Week 3. He was on his way to a solid game with four receptions for 63 yards and a score at the time of the injury.
Description: Jets running back Chris Ivory played 30-of-70 offensive snaps in the Jets' Week 1 victory over the Raiders. Chris Johnson barely had more playing time with 33 offensive snaps.
Insight: Even though Johnson out-touched Ivory 18 to 10, it is really looking like the workload is going to be split right down the middle. The duo, along with Bilal Powell, averaged 7.4 yards per carry. As much as the Jets would like to give quarterback Geno Smith more responsibilities, this team is going to be a run-first offense. Both Johnson and Ivory are worth stashing away on the bench.
Description: Jets waived running back Daryl Richardson Saturday.
Insight: St. Louis handed Richardson the starting job following the departure of Steven Jackson in 2013, but he lost the role to Zac Stacy. He apparently couldn't beat out Chris Johnson, Chris Ivory and Bilal Powell and is now a free agent.
Description: The Jets named Geno Smith the starting quarterback following the team's third preseason game Friday night against the Giants.
Insight: Smith has gone 23-of-33 (.697) for 268 yards, a touchdown and an interception this preseason and he was 9-of-14 for 137 yards and a touchdown Friday night. Smith's grasp on the starting job was never in jeopardy, especially because Michael Vick showed up to camp with a backup's mindset. Smith isn't a reliable fantasy option but his development is important to the fantasy value of Eric Decker.
Description: Jets starting corner Dimitri Patterson (calf/ankle/quadriceps) joined Dee Milliner on the sidelines for Saturday's preseason game, but expects to be ready for the season opener versus Oakland.
Insight: It would be extremely tough for the Jets defense if they were missing both their starting cornerbacks ... although maybe not against the Raiders. They had better be ready by Week 2 in Green Bay or Aaron Rodgers & Co. will have a field day.
Description: Jets running back Chris Johnson looked healthy and ran well in the second preseason game.
Insight: Chris Johnson will probably lead the backfield in touches, but Chris Ivory and Bilal Powell will remain involved. We're still waiting to see CJ2K get involved in the passing game (four receptions in two games) because we know he has the ability to take screen passes a long way.
Description: Jets running back Chris Ivory has a rib cartilage injury and is uncertain to play in the second preseason game. SOURCE: Rich Cimini, ESPN New York
Insight: Ivory, who has always been injury-prone, left the preseason opener with the rib injury. Chris Johnson's best chance to return RB2 numbers is Ivory going down. Johnson scored a one-yard touchdown after Ivory left in the first preseason game.
Description: Jets running back Chris Ivory injured a rib in Thursday's preseason opener.
Insight: Chris Johnson ended up scoring from a yard out which would normally be Ivory time. It's early, but Ivory's history of injuries makes this a concern. Update: X-rays were taken and coach Rex Ryan said he "would be fine."
Description: Jets coach Rex Ryan said that he thinks the team will use a "committee approach" at running back this season, according to Manish Mehta of the NY Daily News.
Insight: Chris Johnson will probably lead the backfield in touches, but Chris Ivory and Bilal Powell will remain involved and Ivory will likely see goal-line carries. Johnson is a flex play at best in 10-team leagues.
Description: Jets receiver Eric Decker (foot, hamstring) has been cleared for the preseason opener, according to the Bergen Record.
Insight: Decker has put together two straight seasons with 85+ catches, 1,000+ yards and 10+ touchdowns with the Denver Broncos. He has a good shot to see more than the 137 targets he drew last season, but he's going to see a major dropoff in production with Geno Smith as his quarterback instead of Peyton Manning.
Description: Jets quarterback Geno Smith took all 16 of the first-team reps Thursday, according to the New York Post.
Insight: Michael Vick was relegated to the second team. Smith had been getting about 75 percent of the first-team snaps previously and is the favorite to start in Week 1. Smith was very inconsistent as a rookie, racking up 17 or more fantasy points six times but seven fantasy points or less seven times.
Description: According to ESPN.com, Jets rookie tight end Jace Amaro had a rough day at practice on Wednesday.
Insight: Amaro ran the wrong route and got an earful from OC Marty Mornhinweg and he was razzed by a defensive player after dropping a pass. He's struggled learning the X's and O's of New York's offense so far after playing in a basic offense at Texas Tech. Jets tight ends combined to catch 62 passes for 849 yards and six of New York's 13 passing touchdowns last season so Amaro is a sleeper, but he'll need to show improvement.
Description: Jets running back Chris Ivory was confirmed as the team's goal line back, according to RBs coach Anthony Lynn.
Insight: Chris Johnson is the No. 1, but this will hurt his fantasy value. Ivory is a clear No. 2 and goal line back ... when healthy. The Jets also have Bilal Powell and Daryl Richardson in the backfield, but they don't figure to see much time, barring injury.
Description: Jets rookie tight end Jace Amaro hurt his right knee Sunday, according to the Associated Press.
Insight: He tore the ACL in his left knee a few years ago and said he initially feared the worst on Sunday. "It felt like something was wrong," he said. "It was a similar pain, but it didn't hurt as bad. Once I started walking on it, it felt OK." Jets tight ends combined to catch 62 passes for 849 yards and six of New York's 13 passing touchdowns last season, so Amaro is a nice sleeper.
Description: Injury-prone Jets running back Chris Ivory is already sitting out drills with a hamstring problem.
Insight: Ivory dealt with a hamstring injury last season and despite his talent we want no part of him this season. Chris Johnson is the No. 1 and Ivory a clear No. 2, when healthy. The Jets also have Bilal Powell and Daryl Richardson in the backfield.
Description: Jets running back Chris Johnson (knee) has been medically cleared for training camp, according to ESPN.com.
Insight: Johnson sat out offseason activities after undergoing knee surgery to repair a torn meniscus, which he says he suffered in Week 3 last year. He rushed for a career-low 3.9 ypc in 2013 but was still a fantasy factor because he received 279 carries, caught 42 balls and scored 10 touchdowns (six rushing). He's going to split carries with Chris Ivory on early downs and Bilal Powell will handle third downs, so Johnson may not reach 250 touches this season.
Description: Jets running backs coach Anthony Lynn said that the team is "going to have to be strategic" in how it uses Chris Johnson to "keep him fresh so that he can be the explosive guy that I know that he can be." SOURCE: nj.com
Insight: Lynn said earlier this month that the Jets would use a hot-hand situation at running back. Johnson averaged 298 carries the past five seasons, but he may not reach 220 carries this year with Chris Ivory and Bilal Powell also getting touches.
Description: Jets running back Chris Johnson will have first shot, but its likely to be a "go with the hot hand situation" according to RB coach Anthony Lynn.
Insight: That makes this situation a lot different than the one he had in Tennessee where he was definitively the No. 1 guy. In six seasons with the Titans the fewest attempts he saw were 251 in his rookie season. Johnson will battle with Chris Ivory, Bilal Powell and Daryl Richardson for reps.
Description: The Jets claimed running back Daryl Richardson off waivers from the Rams on Friday.
Insight: Richardson was waived Thursday. St. Louis handed him the starting job following the departure of Steven Jackson, but he averaged just 3.1 ypc and lost the job to Zac Stacy. He's not guaranteed to make the Jets roster, as New York has Chris Johnson, Chris Ivory and Bilal Powell on the roster.
Description: The New York Jets took tight end Jace Amaro with the No. 49 overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft.
Insight: Tight ends Kellen Winslow and Jeff Cumberland combined for 57 catches on 87 targets for 786 yards and six of New York's 13 passing TDs last season. The 6-5 Amaro should start right away for the Jets, who have fortified their offense with Eric Decker, Chris Johnson and Amaro this offseason.
Description: The Jets have reached an agreement with three-time Pro Bowl running back Chris Johnson.
Insight: According to ESPN's Rich Cimini, it's a two-year, $8 million deal. Johnson's yards per carry dipped to 3.9 last season with Tennessee and the bigger Chris Ivory (6-foot, 222 pounds) will probably see most of the carries around the goal line. For the first time in years, Johnson isn't a must-start fantasy player.
Description: Former Raiders receiver Jacoby Ford has signed with the New York Jets.
Insight: Ford's one constant is that he's been injured more than healthy and he's yet to prove he can be a full-time NFL receiver. Since being drafted in 2010, he's totaled just 57 receptions for 848 yards and three touchdowns. He does own four career kickoff returns for scores.
Description: Michael Vick has agreed to a one-year, $5 million contract with the Jets. SOURCE: Adam Schefter, ESPN
Insight: Vick wanted a starting job and now he has one. With Eric Decker in the fold, he'll have a pretty good receiver to throw to as well. Geno Smith's fantasy value will be zilch unless Vick gets hurt. Fortunately for Smith, Vick hasn't played an entire 16-game season since 2006.
Description: The Jets have officially released quarterback Mark Sanchez. SOURCE: Jason La Canfora, CBS Sports
Insight: He became expendable when the team signed Mike Vick earlier today. Most of the league's quarterback openings have already been filled, meaning Sanchez will likely have to settle for a backup job in 2014.
Description: The Jets have released wideout Santonio Holmes.
Insight: Holmes had just 23 receptions and one touchdown in 11 games last season, though he did average 19.8 yards per catch. His time in New York was a complete failure compared to his production in Pittsburgh.
Description: Jets defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson was honored as the 2013 Defensive Rookie of the Year on Saturday.
Insight: He barely beat out Bills linebacker Kiko Alonso for the award. Richardson clawed his way to 77 tackles and 3.5 sacks this season while also adding two touchdowns on four rushing attempts as a part-time fullback. The 6-foot-3, 294-pounder was drafted 13th overall out of Mizzou last April.
Description: Jets running back Chris Ivory had his third 100-yard game of the season Sunday against the Browns.
Insight: Ivory dealt with a hamstring injury early in the season and didn't take the reigns of the team's backfield until Week 6, but he's been a solid flex option since then with 699 rushing yards and three touchdowns over his last nine games.
Description: Jets cornerback Antonio Cromartie suffered a head injury in Sunday's game.
Insight: Cromartie stayed on the field all game, but after the game the injury came to light. If its a concussion he'll obviously have to go through the protocol before being allowed to play against Carolina next weekend.
Description: Jets receiver Santonio Holmes (hamstring) is expected to be actice Sunday against Oakland.
Insight: Lets hope active means more than the three snaps he saw last week while "active." Fantasy owners should not trust him to be on the field or that quarterback Geno Smith could get him the ball even if he was open.
Description: Jets quarterback Geno Smith will get the start next week against Oakland. SOURCE: Rich Cimini, ESPN New York
Insight: It certainly can't be off his work Sunday against Miami. That performace was one of the worst we've seen this season (4-of-10, 29 yards, 1 INT) and got him replaced by Matt Simms at halftime. New York's struggling second round pick is making Jets fans miss Mark Sanchez.
Description: New York halfback Chris Ivory is listed as probable on the team's Week 13 injury report.
Insight: Ivory suffered a sprained ankle Sunday against Baltimore but has been able to practice on a limited basis throughout the week. He'll split carries with Bilal Powell this week against the Dolphins.
Description: New York QB Geno Smith will draw the start again in Week 13. SOURCE: Rich Cimini, ESPN New York
Insight: If the Jets had a capable backup, he'd be starting already. Smith has been a disaster over the last six weeks, producing just one touchdown pass and ten interceptions in that span. Despite Smith's poor play, the Jets still have a decent shot at making the playoffs. They're tied with Tennessee for the final wild card spot in the AFC.
Description: Jets running back Chris Ivory suffered an ankle sprain in the first quarter.
Insight: Ivory had been hot with 237 yards and two touchdowns over the previous two weeks, but finished with nine carries for 35 yards to the disappointment of fantasy owners everywhere. We await word of the severity.
Description: The Jets reached a deal with free agent linebacker Jermaine Cunningham on Wednesday.
Insight: This will be the third team Cunningham has been with in the last three months. With just three and a half sacks and two forced fumbles in three seasons, Cunningham probably won't be an every down player for his new team.
Description: Jets running back Chris Ivory came within two yards of the 100-yard bonus in Week 11 at Buffalo.
Insight: Ivory left no doubt about who New York's lead RB is. He had 98 yards and a touchdown on 15 carries, while Bilal Powell had 27 yards on five rushes. Ivory has had 98 or more yards in three of the last four games and a touchdown in two straight.
Description: New York receiver Santonio Holmes (hamstring) will make his return Sunday against the Bills, but he won't be on the field for 100 percent of the snaps, according to ESPNNewYork.com. Holmes hasn't played since Week 4.
Insight: "Will he be on a pitch count? I think we’ll be smart about that," coach Rex Ryan said. "We’re not going to put him out there for 80 snaps. But does he look good to me? He absolutely looks good to me." Holmes is a WR4 at best.
Description: Safety Ed Reed has signed with the New York Jets.
Insight: Jets coach Rex Ryan had a previous relationship with Reed when both were in Baltimore. We're not sure how much Reed has to offer at this point, but he could certainly be a mentor for some of the Jets young defensive backs.
Description: New York receiver Santonio Holmes expects to be released after the season. SOURCE: New York Daily News
Insight: It wouldn't exactly be a shock to see him go. Holmes wore out his welcome in East Rutherford a long time ago. He'll always be remembered for his Super Bowl heroics in Pittsburgh but the truth is Holmes has really only had a couple of productive seasons. In four games this season, the 29-year-old has made ten catches for 243 yards and one touchdown. Most of it came in a Week 3 win over Buffalo (five receptions for 154 yards).
Description: Jets wideout Santonio Holmes (hamstring) could be back in Week 11, according to ESPN's Rich Cimini.
Insight: "I think he'll play, said coach Rex Ryan. Holmes hasn't suited up since Sept. 29 at Tennessee. He has 243 yards on just 10 receptions this season, but 154 of them came in Week 3 versus the Bills, New York's Week 1 opponent. Don't expect consistent production from the 29-year-old.
Description: Jets tight end Kellen Winslow has served his four-game suspension for violating the league's policy against PEDs.
Insight: Winslow has caught 17 balls for 169 yards and a pair of scores, but his only double-digit performance came in Week 1 against Tampa Bay. The end of the suspension isn't likely to change any fantasy lineups.
Description: Jets running back Chris Ivory had his second 100-yard game in three weeks Sunday against the Saints, his former team.
Insight: Ivory ran with a purpose against the team that traded him this past offseason, gaining 139 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries after seeing just six carries in Week 8 at Cincinnati. Bilal Powell finished with 29 yards on nine carries. The split will limit Ivory's fantasy value, but he should be the lead ballcarrier after New York's Week 10 bye.
Description: New York Jets wideout Jeremy Kerley (elbow) is done for the day due to an elbow injury, reports ESPN's John Clayton.
Insight: He had one catch for one yard before suffering the injury. Kerley has posted a couple of decent games this season, but has yet to crack the 100-yard mark in a game. With Jeff Cumberland (concussion) also out, David Nelson will serve as Geno Smith's top target in the passing game.
Description: According to Rich Cimini of ESPN.com, the Jets aren't "overly optimistic" about Santonio Holmes (hamstring) returning in Week 9 against the Saints.
Insight: The Jets have a bye in Week 10, so it seems likely we won't see Holmes until Week 11 at Buffalo. The Bengals locked down Jeremy Kerley Sunday, leaving David Nelson as Geno Smith's No. 1 target. Nelson caught eight passes for 80 yards on 12 targets, giving him 160 yards the last two games.
Description: Jets tight end Jeff Cumberland suffered a concussion Sunday against the Bengals, according to Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News.
Insight: It was a mild one. Cumberland is likely to play against the Saints but of course he'll have to pass concussion tests first. The tight end only had one catch for nine yards on two targets Sunday after seeing 16 targets the previous three games.
Description: Jets wideout Santonio Holmes (hamstring) could sit out until after the team's bye (Week 10).
Insight: At this point fantasy owners should not be counting on Holmes to help them much before the playoffs. And if you have gotten into the playoffs without him, it's probably a good move to continue playing with the ones who got you there.
