Description: Vikings wide receiver Adam Thielen led Minnesota with 68 yards on Sunday.
Insight: I'm going to go out on a limb and say Thielen wasn't in many fantasy lineups this weekend. Teddy Bridgewater spread the ball around as three different receivers had three catches. Thielen was the only receiver with a touchdown.
Description: Vikings running back Matt Asiata rushed for 91 yards on 19 carries against the Bears.
Insight: Asiata has been an average replacement for Adrian Peterson. Asiata finished 2014 with 570 yards and nine touchdowns. With the nice touchdown numbers and low yardage totals, it appears Asiata would be better suited for a goal line role down the road.
Description: Vikings quarterback Teddy Bridgewater completed 17-of-29 passes for 209 yards against the Bears.
Insight: Bridgewater also threw a touchdown and interception. We believe Bridgewater has been the most impressive rookie quarterback this season, and if Adrian Peterson comes back next season or other upgrades are made on offense, Bridgewater could be a decent late-round draft pick.
Description: The Minnesota Vikings have waived running back Ben Tate.
Insight: It wasn't that long ago that fantasy owners we excited about Ben Tate leading the Cleveland running attack (preseason ADP 58.6 at fantasyfootballcalculator). That was an epic fail as was his time in Minnesota.
Description: Vikings running back Matt Asiata led the team with 11 carries for 36 yards in Week 15.
Insight: At least he found the end zone and caught seven balls for 50 yards to crack into double-digit fantasy points. Asiata is a low end value only because Jerick McKinnon is done for the season. We don't expect him to be a viable fantasy option in 2015.
Description: The NFL and the NFLPA could still reach a settlement regarding Adrian Peterson's season-ending suspension according to Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio.
Insight: The independent arbitrator is encouraging the two sides to work out a deal, but neither side has bugde yet. Any settlement would have to come before the arbitrator issues his ruling and since it is reported by Peter King that Peterson is likely to win the appeal, it seems more likely a settlement is coming. Either way, it is still a long shot Peterson plays, and even if he does, it might be difficult to play him with a championship fantasy on the line.
Description: Vikings wideout Greg Jennings caught a team-high four passes on Sunday.
Insight: Jennings had only 38 yards. Charles Johnson led the receivers with 52 yards and a touchdown, while Cordarelle Patterson had just two catches for 18 yards. All wideouts should be avoided in Minnesota.
Description: Vikings running back Matt Asiata (concussion) did not practice again Thursday.
Insight: He is in the first stage of the concussion protocol and with Minnesota claiming Ben Tate off of waivers, there seems to be more than a hint that Asiata could miss Week 12. Jerick McKinnon would see a nice bump in value since Tate still doesn't know the playbook.
Description: Vikings running back Matt Asiata (concussion) did not practice Wednesday.
Insight: He is in the first stage of the concussion protocol, and with Minnesota claiming Ben Tate off of waivers, there seems to be a hint that Asiata could miss Week 12. Jerick McKinnon would see a nice bump in value.
Description: The Minnesota Vikings have claimed running back Ben Tate off waivers from the Browns.
Insight: The move makes sense for the Vikings, with Adrian Peterson officially unavailable for the rest of the season. However, there is no telling how much action Tate will see, and owners should expect almost nothing for Week 12.
Description: Vikings running back Matt Asiata had just four touches for 14 yards against the Bears.
Insight: That's a huge disappointment after his three-touchdown day two weeks ago. Fantasy owners were likely hoping Asiata would take advantage to the matchup, but the Chicago offense held Minnesota to just 46 offensive plays and no attempts at the goal line.
Description: Vikings running back Jerick McKinnon had eight carries for 38 yards versus the Bears on Sunday.
Insight: He also caught four passes for 20 yards. The Bears defense was a lot better than expected versus the Vikings, and the Chicago offense had nearly 39 minutes of possession. That did not allow the Vikings offense to get into rhythm.
Description: Vikings quarterback Teddy Bridgewater threw for 158 yards, a touchdown and an interception in Week 11 against the Bears.
Insight: It did not help Bridgewater that he lost Jarius Wright and Greg Jennings during the game due to injury. He was also hurt by the fact the Vikings offense only ran 46 total plays, 30 of them being pass attempts.
Description: Vikings tight end Kyle Rudolph (sports hernia) is expected to play Sunday, according to coach Mike Zimmer.
Insight: After getting in a limited practice on Wednesday, was a full participant in both Thursday and Friday's practice. Rudolph looks fully recovered, and should be a safe bet to suit up on Sunday. He will be a borderline TE1 against the Bears.
Description: Vikings running back Jerick McKinnon has been added to the injury report with an apparent lower-back injury.
Insight: While being added to the injury report mid-week is never a good sign, we feel that McKinnon is dealing with just some general soreness. Owners should make sure they check on his status throughout the rest of the week, but he should be a safe bet to play Sunday versus Chicago.
Description: Vikings running back Adrian Peterson would be welcomed back to the team, according to head coach Mike Zimmer.
Insight: Zimmer did say the decision is in the NFL's hands, and did not have a timetable for his return. It is looking unlikely Peterson will return for Week 11, but he should be picked up everywhere, as it is looking likely that he will be reinstated at some point this season.
Description: Vikings tight end Kyle Rudolph (sports hernia) may have a chance to play in Week 11.
Insight: Coach Mike Zimmer is not committing to anything, but Rudolph did go through a limited practice on Monday. If he is able to progress throughout the week, Rudolph will have a good chance to play on Sunday. He should be considered a borderline TE1 for the remainder of the season.
Description: Fantasy owners clinging to hope that Vikings running back Adrian Peterson will play again this season are still unsure of the running back's status.
Insight: NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports Peterson's paid leave is "not considered discipline" by the NFL, so a suspension should be on its way. Other reports suggest the NFL and Peterson could reach a settlement where Peterson pays a fine and returns to the field. Either way, the decision isn't coming fast enough for Peterson owners.
Description: Vikings running back Adrian Peterson's attorney, Rusty Hardin, said Peterson plans to play Week 11 and hopes the NFL moves quickly to decide whether or not to reinstate him according to NBC Sports.
Insight: Peterson reached a no-contest plea deal to reduce his charge and avoid jail time. The running back obviously wants to return to the field, and since he paid his dues in the legal system, he should be allowed to. But will the Roger Goodell agree and how long will it take for the commissioner to decide remains to be seen. Regardless, Peterson needs to be claimed in all leagues.
Description: Vikings running back Jerick McKinnon led the team with 14 carries and 54 yards, but Matt Asiata vultured the goal line carries once again.
Insight: McKinnon did not have a great game, but did have a much better second half than first half. Over the past few weeks, McKinnon has proved to be the more talented back, but once again, Asiata scored all the rushing touchdowns.
Description: Vikings running back Jerick McKinnon will continue to be part of a two-back system, according to coach Mike Zimmer.
Insight: It will be interesting to see if the Vikings stick by this statement, as McKinnon is a far superior back to Matt Asiata. With a nice matchup against the Redskins, McKinnon will be an RB2 for Week 9.
Description: Vikings wideout Greg Jennings led the team with six catches, seven targets and 77 yards on Sunday.
Insight: The Minnesota offense continues to frustrate fantasy owners. At least Norv Turner has figured out Jerick McKinnon is better than Mass Asiata, but he is still featuring Jennings more than Cordarrelle Patterson. That is fine with Jennings' owners, but for owners thinking about picking up Jennings, it is hard to start him with any confidence.
Description: Vikings receiver Cordarrelle Patterson scored his first touchdown since Week 1.
Insight: That should be an encouraging sign, but since he still only received three touches and four targets, we are pretty much done with dealing with the headache that comes with Patterson. He is a tremendous talent, but the Vikings do not seem to care to feed him the ball.
Description: Vikings coach Mike Zimmer said he would like to get running back Matt Asiata more touches and rookie Jerick McKinnon fewer touches this week according to WGR.
Insight: Why? Besides the game against the Falcons where Asiata scored three touchdowns, he has not done much to help the team. And even in that game, McKinnon outgained Asiata yardage wise. Asiata has averaged 3.5 yards per carry versus McKinnon's 5.0. The biggest reason for putting Asiata on the field more than the 15 snaps he saw in Week 6 were to help in pass protection. Asiata could continue to score on occasion, but McKinnon is still the back to owe in Minnesota.
Description: Vikings receiver Cordarrelle Patterson had only two catches for 16 yards Sunday against Detroit.
Insight: Everyone's favorite breakout candidate has failed to deliver. Patterson has zero receiving touchdowns on the season, and with so much uncertainty in Minnesota, owners need to consider benching him, until we see production.
Description: Vikings rookie quarterback Teddy Bridgewater is fully practicing this week.
Insight: Bridgewater missed Week 5 against the Packers but that was mostly due to the fact the game was on Thursday. The quarterback could not get ready on a short week. We expect him to start against the Lions. He will be a steady No. 2 quarterback the remain of the year, but this week is a tough matchup.
Description: Vikings suspended running back Adrian Peterson is facing a possible arrest for violating terms of his bond.
Insight: Peterson admitted to marijuana consumption, before taking a madatory drug test on Wednesday, according to court records. His trial date has been set for December 1st, and it remains unclear if this will have any effect, but is still troubling to hear nonetheless. The chances of Peterson returning to play in 2014, grows smaller and smaller by the day.
Description: Vikings rookie quarterback Teddy Bridgewater (ankle) is out tonight against Green Bay, according to Ian Rapoport.
Insight: The short week hurt his chances of playing, and when Minnesota promoted Chandler Harnish this afternoon, all signs pointed towards Bridgewater missing Thurday's game. Christian Ponder gets the start, but there is a good chance Bridgewater will be back under center for Week 6.
Description: Vikings rookie quarterback Teddy Bridgewater (ankle) didn't practice this week and here's the bad news - Minnesota activated Chandler Harnish from the practice squad.
Insight: Bridgewater did everything fantasy owners could have hoped for in his debut start, but the short work week is likely to force Christian Ponder into a starting role for one game. If true, it lowers all fantasy values for Vikings players.
Description: Vikings rookie quarterback Teddy Bridgewater (ankle) didn't practice this week and according to Adam Schefter the signs all point to him not playing Thursday night.
Insight: Bridgewater did everything fantasy owners could have hoped for in his debut start, but the short work week is likely to force Christian Ponder into a starting role for one game. If true, it lowers all fantasy values for Vikings players.
Description: Vikings rookie quarterback Teddy Bridgewater (ankle) did not practice Tuesday.
Insight: Bridgewater hopes to at least be part of tomorrow's walk-through on this short work week.
He did everything fantasy owners could have hoped for in his debut start, throwing for 317 yards and rushing for a touchdown in leading Minnesota to a win. The Vikings play Thursday at Green Bay.
Description: The latest word from coach Mike Zimmer is Vikings rookie quarterback Teddy Bridgewater's MRI came back fine and he is expected to start Thursday against the Packers.
Insight: Bridgewater did everything fantasy owners could have hoped for, throwing for 317 yards and rushing for a touchdown in leading Minnesota to a win. He injured the ankle in the fourth quarter. He'll only have a short time to heal and prepare for Thursday night's game.
Description: Vikings receiver Cordarrelle Patterson was a non-factor in Sunday's win over Atlanta.
Insight: Minnesota needs to utilize him more, as he only saw four targets all day and no rushing attempts. The only thing he contributed was two kickoff returns, one for 49 yards. He's got too much talent to be used this way.
Description: Vikings backup receiver Jarius Wright led the team in targets (10), receptions (8) and yards (132) against Atlanta.
Insight: The targets total was more than double any other receiver. It will be interesting to see whether this continues or was a one-time thing. He's really only the team's third-best receiver behind Greg Jennings and Cordarrelle Patterson.
Description: If you started Vikings rookie quarterback Teddy Bridgewater because of the bye week situation pat yourself, and your quarterback, on the back.
Insight: Bridgewater did everything fantasy owners could have hoped for, throwing for 317 yards and rushing for a touchdown in leading Minnesota to a win. He did leave in the fourth quarter with an ankle injury, but X-rays were negative and hopefully he'll be ready for Thursday versus Green Bay.
Description: Vikings running back Matt Asiata scored three times from in close to make fantasy owners who stuck by him extremely happy.
Insight: Besides the three touchdowns, Asiata also ran for 78 yards and caught three for 22 yards. That's the good news. The bad news is that rookie running back Jerick McKinnon played so well the Vikings backfield is destined to be a shared situation.
Description: Vikings receiver Cordarrelle Patterson has somewhat productive day.
Insight: Minnesota needs to utilize him more, as he only had five total touches. Patterson was only given five targets in the passing game, but caught four of them for 61 yards. Until there is more stable QB play, he remains a WR3 with upside.
Description: Vikings running back Matt Asiata has poor game versus New Orleans.
Insight: He had 12 rushing attempts for only 35 yards, and it is evident how much Minnesota is missing Adrian Peterson. Asiata did chip in three catches for 36 yards, but it was not enough as the Vikings fell to the Saints. Backup Jerick McKinnon was also unable to make his presence felt, totaling eight yards on four touches.
Description: Vikings rookie quarterback Teddy Bridgewater came in relief for the injured Matt Cassel Sunday against the Saints.
Insight: He was not put in any dangerous positions by the coaching staff, and completed 12 of his 20 passes for 150 yards. Bridewater also had six carries for 27 yards. He will be under center for the forseeable future, and possibly the rest of 2014.
Description: Vikings quarterback Matt Cassel left the game with a left toe injury.
Insight: Teddy Bridgewater is now under center, and while Cassel was able to limp off, he was then carted off into the locker room. Officially Cassel is questionable to return, but looks like his day his through.
Description: Vikings offensive coordinator Norv Turner said he will use both Matt Asiata and Jerick McKinnon in Sunday's game against the Saints according to Chris Tomasson of the St. Paul Pioneer Press.
Insight: Turner added that he might use one back over the other if someone gets a hot hand. Asiata will have the first opportunity to get the hot hand as he will more than likely be the starter. Asiata gained 99 yards on 21 touches against the Patriots last week, but it might be difficult for the 27-year-old to reproduce those numbers. Asiata is the safer start this week, but McKinnon is the better add long term.
Description: ProFootballTalk reports that it should not be a surprise if the Vikings reverse their decision to activate running back Adrian Peterson for Week 3.
Insight: That means Matt Asiata has a decent chance to start again against New Orleans. He rushed 13 times fo 36 yards and caught five passes for 48 yards with a touchdown versus New England in Week 2. In a pinch, he is a viable FLEX or RB2 option in 12 or 14 team leagues.
Description: Profootballtalk reports the Vikings could still reverse the decision to reinstate running back Adrian Peterson.
Insight: Although it is extremely unlikely Minnesota releases Peterson like Baltimore did to Ray Rice, the call for Peterson's head in the press will not be ignored. The governor of Minnesota is calling for "All Day" to be suspended and Radisson suspended its sponorship of the Vikings due to Peterson's indictment for child abuse. Do not drop Matt Asiata yet as there is at least a 50/50 chance that Peterson will again be inactive in Week 3.
Description: Vikings receiver Cordarrelle Patterson could not duplicate his performance from Week 1, against the Patriots.
Insight: He did lead the Vikings in receiving with four catches for 56 yards, but did not have any carries in Week 2. Patterson is one the top game-breakers in the NFL, so Minnesota needs to make sure he is heavily involved every week. With questions at the QB position, consider him a WR3 with WR2 upside.
Description: Minnesota backup running back Matt Asiata isn't Adrian Peterson. OK, you already knew that.
Insight: Still, he wasn't horrible even in the 30-7 blowout. He managed 36 yards rushing and 48 yards and a touchdown receiving for a solid double-digit afternoon. Rookie Jerick McKinnon was not a factor.
Description: The NFL confirmed that Vikings running back Adrian Peterson could face league discipline under the league's personal-conduct policy.
Insight: Peterson is already not playing on Sunday against the Patriots, and he could possibly miss more games. This is a disaster for Peterson owners. Matt Asiata will start in Week 2. Pick him up before Sunday.
Description: ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the Vikings have deactivated Adrian Peterson for Sunday's game against the Patriots.
Insight: A Montgomery County grand jury has indicted Peterson on charges of reckless or negligent injury to a child and a warrant has been issued for his arrest. There is no other news about how long he will be out at this point. Matt Asiata will likely be the starting running back for Minnesota this week, and Jerrick McKinnon will receive some carries as well.
Description: FOX 26 reports Vikings running back Adrian Peterson has been indicted in Houston for reckless or negligent injury to a child.
Insight: NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports that the arrest stems from "the disciplining of a son with a switch." ESPN would not confirm if it was indeed Peterson's son on Pardon the Interruption. It is unclear whether Peterson will play on Sunday and if not, it is also unclear who the starter will be, Matt Asiata or Jerrick McKinnon.
Description: Vikings quarterback Matt Cassel led his team to an easy Week 1 win over the St. Louis Rams which should keep the rookie (Teddy Bridgewater) on the bench for a little while longer.
Insight: Cassel didn't put up fantasy-worthy numbers because of the big lead, but went 17-of-25 for 170 yards and a pair of scores. At some point this season the rookie will get a chance to start, but not this weekend.
Description: Vikings receiver Jerome Simpson has been suspended for three games for a last November DUI arrest.
Insight: Simpson isn't likely on fantasy radar screens as he's fallen to No. 4 on the Minnesota depth chart behind Cordarrelle Patterson, Greg Jennings, and Jarius Wright. he had 48 receptions for 726 yards and one touchdowns last season.
Description: Vikings rookie quarterback Teddy Bridgewater completed 4-of-9 passes for 17 yards and a touchdown in the Vikings' preseason finale Thursday night.
Insight: Bridgewater wraps up the preseason 30-of-49 for 283 yards, five touchdowns and no picks. But despite Bridgewater's 111.2 passer rating, Matt Cassel remains the starter. The rookie, however, has proved that he could see some action at some point this season.
Description: The Vikings have named Matt Cassel the starting quarterback for Week 1 against the Rams.
Insight: Cassel is just keeping the seat warm for Teddy Bridgewater. The 32-year-old was respectable last year for the Vikings, completing 60.2 percent of his passes, averaging 7.11 yards per attempt and posting an 11/9 TD/INT ratio. Minnesota OC Norv Turner was able to get 4,372 yards and 26 touchdowns out of Cleveland's trio of Jason Campbell, Brandon Weeden and Brian Hoyer last season, so he should be able to build a decent passing offense with Cassel under center. Cassel starting shouldn't hurt the fantasy value of Adrian Peterson, Kyle Rudolph or Cordarrelle Patterson.
Description: Vikings quarterback Matt Cassel will start Minnesota's third preseason game against Kansas City on Saturday according to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune.
Insight: That means Cassel will have started all three preseason games so far. Rookie quarterback Teddy Bridgewater played well in the second preseason game, completing 16 of 20 passes for 177 yards and two touchdowns, but the third starting nod for Cassel would indicate he is clearly ahead in the competition. Cassel is 17-for-22 with 239 yards and a touchdown this preseason.
Description: Vikings rookie quarterback Teddy Bridgewater showed off some of his considerable talent late Saturday night, throwing for 177 yards and two touchdowns.
Insight: Bridgewater was 16-for-20 with no interceptions in leading Minnesota to a comeback victory over the Arizona Cardinals. A healthy Matt Cassel will still be the opening day starter, but this performance keeps alive hopes Bridgewater will eventually grab the starting role.
Description: Minnesota running back Adrian Peterson won't play in Saturday's game against the Cardinals.
Insight: We told you he might not play at all this preseason, but don't worry he still knows how to run the football. Peterson followed up his MVP 2012 campaign with a still respectable though not up to expectation 1,266 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns in 2013.
Description: According to Albert Breer of NFL.com, Teddy Bridgewater is closing the gap between himself and Matt Cassel in the competition for the Vikings' starting QB job.
Insight: Jay Glazer reported earlier this week that Bridgewater has been more impressive than the Vikings expected. If Bridgewater can emerge as a viable NFL starter this season, it would be great for the fantasy value of Adrian Peterson, Cordarrelle Patterson and Kyle Rudolph.
Description: Vikings receiver Cordarrelle Patterson (foot) practiced without limitations on Wednesday, according to the Star Tribune.
Insight: Patterson dealt with a foot injury early in camp, but it was nothing serious. The second-year receiver's ADP has skyrocketed in the past month up to the middle of the fourth round, but he could be worth the risk due to his top-10 upside.
Description: The Vikings and Kyle Rudolph have agreed to a five-year contract extension, according to Jay Glazer of FOX Sports.
Insight: Rudolph has breakout potential in Norv Turner's offense, which made stars out of Antonio Gates and Jordan Cameron. The 24-year-old has huge upside for his ninth-round ADP, which ranks 10th among tight ends.
Description: Minnesota running back Adrian Peterson isn't expected to see much action in the preseason, perhaps none at all, according to Ian Rapoport.
Insight: Peterson followed up his MVP 2012 campaign with a still respectable though not up to expectation 1,266 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns in 2013. He doesn't need much to be ready for the regular season and is still a top-five fantasy selection.
Description: Teddy Bridgewater and Matt Cassel have been "pretty much splitting reps" so far in camp, according to Jay Glazer of FOX Sports.
Insight: According to Glazer, Bridgewater has been more impressive than the Vikings expected. If Bridgewater can emerge as a viable NFL starter this season, it would be great for the fantasy value of Adrian Peterson, Cordarrelle Patterson and Kyle Rudolph.
Description: Vikings coach Mike Zimmer said receiver Cordarrelle Patterson will continue to return kicks this season even though he's expected to have an expanded role on offense, according to the Star Tribune.
Insight: Patterson picked up 1,393 yards and two touchdowns on 43 kick returns last season in addition to putting up 627 yards and seven touchdowns from scrimmage. His ADP continues to rise and is up to 41.4, 15th among receivers, in fantasyfootballcalculator.com mock drafts, so he's turning into a high-risk, high-reward player.
Description: Vikings receiver Cordarrelle Patterson has dramatically improved his route running and defense recognition, according to quarterback Matt Cassel.
Insight: Patterson should be the star of the passing game and may not need gadget plays to get the ball. The multi-talented Patterson had three rushing touchdowns, two kick return scores and four TD receptions last year, but may be able to produce from a standard playbook in 2014.
Description: Vikings veteran wideout Greg Jennings said it will be young receiver Cordarrelle Patterson, not Jennings, that will be the focal point of the passing game in 2014.
Insight: The multi-talented Patterson had three rushing touchdowns, two kick return scores and four TD receptions last year. When he develops his receiving skills, he's going to be a top-five fantasy wide receiver. That could be sooner rather than later if Minnesota can fix their quarterback situation.
Description: Vikings coach Mike Zimmer told the Minneapolis Star-Tribune that he "hopes" Teddy Bridgewater will emerge as the team's starting quarterback next season.
Insight: Minnesota's other option at QB is the eternally mediocre Matt Cassel so it shouldn't be much of a contest. Expect Bridgewater, the 2012 Big East Offensive Player of the Year, to be the Vikings' Week 1 starter.
Description: Minnesota closed out the first round by taking Louisville quarterback Teddy Bridgewater with the 32nd pick. SOURCE: Tom Pelissero, USA Today
Insight: Bridgewater comes with plenty of question marks; he was diagnosed with an abnormal heartbeat at his pre-draft physical and he didn't have a very good pro day. But with the last pick of the first round, the reward outweighed the risk for Minnesota, a team that desperately needed a playmaker on offense. Bridgewater may be a work in progress but he's also an intriguing fantasy possibility.
Description: According to ESPN's Ed Werder, All-Pro defensive end Jared Allen is finalizing a deal with Seattle.
Insight: The 31-year-old has recorded 11 or more sacks in each of his last seven seasons. The Seahawks were tied for eighth in the league in sacks in 2013 and should be even better this year with Allen anchoring the pass rush.
Description: Defensive end Jared Allen said he'll retire if teams don't meet his salary demands this offseason. SOURCE: NFL.com
Insight: Well, that seems a bit dramatic. Allen, who turns 32 in April, is still a big time contributor and nowhere close to the end of his career. It may not be today or even tomorrow, but we think Allen will eventually get the contract that he's looking for.
Description: The Vikings have agreed to re-sign quarterback Matt Cassel.
Insight: NFL Network's Ian Rapoport says it's a two-year, $10 million deal. Cassel's return will squash any rumors about a Mike Vick signing. Cassel's 60.2 completion percentage this season was his highest since 2008. That was the season Cassel started in place of Tom Brady (torn ACL).
Description: Minnesota released tight end John Carlson on Tuesday.
Insight: Carlson saw some action while Kyle Rudolph was hurt last season but that only lasted until he got injured himself (concussion in Week 14). Carlson will be 30 in May and it's fair to wonder how much he has left in the tank.
Description: Minnesota running back Adrian Peterson (groin surgery) is on track to be ready for April OTAs.
Insight: Peterson followed up his MVP 2012 campaign with a still respectable though not up to expectation 1,266 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns in 2013. If the Vikings can find a passing offense to balance it out, he should be good for a few more years.
Description: Quarterback Matt Cassel is opting for free agency. SOURCE: ESPN 1500 Twin Cities
Insight: He has until Friday to opt out of his contract with Minnesota and apparently that's exactly what Cassel plans on doing. Cassel probably would have started for the Vikings next season had he decided to stay. Of course, that's still an option for Cassel if the two sides are willing to work something out. The Browns, Texans and Jaguars are all expected to have openings at quarterback though all three will have a chance to address that issue on draft day if they choose to.
