Description: Dolphins running back Knowshon Moreno (knee) is expected to suit up for Saturday's preseason game against Dallas according to the Miami Herald.
Insight: It will be Moreno's debut with the Dolphins and last chance to earn the No. 1 RB spot before Week 1. More than likely, he will be a change-of-pace back and pass protector while Lamar Miller gets most of the first and second down carries.
Description: Dolphins running back Knowshon Moreno (knee) says he's ready for game action and hopes to play in Saturday's preseason game against Dallas, according to the Miami Herald.
Insight: Moreno underwent a left knee scope in June and returned to practice a couple weeks ago. On Wednesday, he had his most impressive day of practice since returning. Moreno is likely going to end up in a timeshare with Lamar Miller.
Description: Dolphins tight end Charles Clay (knee) returned to practice Monday, according to Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald.
Insight: Clay missed the first two preseason games with a knee injury. The 25-year-old had 69 catches for 759 yards and six touchdowns and also carried seven times for 15 yards and a touchdown last season. He ranked seventh among tight ends in fantasy points.
Description: Dolphins running back Knowshon Moreno (knee) finally participated in contract drills Monday.
Insight: Moreno underwent a left knee scope in June. He has a lot of ground to make up because Lamar Miller has been impressive in camp. Moreno's pass protection skills could prove useful for a team that has offensive line issues, so this could turn into a timeshare. Fantasy owners shouldn't draft either player as more than a flex option.
Description: Playing without starters Mike Wallace, Brian Hartline and Charles Clay, Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill went 6-of-6 for 62 yards and a touchdown in Friday's preseason opener against the Falcons.
Insight: Tannehill was sacked 10 times more than any other quarterback in the NFL last season, Miami had an ineffective running game and offensive coordinator Mike Sherman was painfully uncreative with high-priced receiver Mike Wallace, but Tannehill still threw for 3,913 yards and 24 touchdowns while running for 238 yards. The Dolphins brought in Bill Lazor from Philadelphia to run the offense and rebuilt the offensive line with Branden Albert and Ja'Wuan James, so Tannehill could have a breakout third season.
Description: Dolphins receiver Mike Wallace (hamstring) was held out of the preseason opener Friday along with Brian Hartline (knee) and Charles Clay (knee).
Insight: Wallace has been dealing with a minor hamstring injury and the Dolphins held him out as a precaution. Hopefully he can get back on the field for Miami's second preseason game so he can work on his chemistry with QB Ryan Tannehill. If Wallace stays healthy he should have a much better season than he did in 2013 (73 catches, 930 yards, five touchdowns) with creative new OC Bill Lazor calling the shots.
Description: Chris Perkins of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel has set what he calls "realistic" statistical goals for Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill at 4,100 yards, 28 TDs, 12 INTs and a playoff berth.
Insight: The Dolphins quarterback would need a lot of help from a rebuilt offensive line to reach thoses numbers. He was sacked a league-high 58 times in 2013. TSN is predicting a less-lofty 3,620 yards, 22 TDs, 16 INTs and two rushing touchdowns.
Description: The Dolphins have activated Knowshon Moreno (knee) from the active/PUP list.
Insight: Moreno underwent a left knee scope in June and missed seven weeks. He has a lot of ground to make up because Lamar Miller has been impressive in camp. Moreno's pass protection skills could prove useful for a team that has offensive line issues, so this could turn into a timeshare. Fantasy owners shouldn't draft either player as more than a flex option.
Description: Dolphins tight end Charles Clay injured a knee and is expected to miss multiple practices and perhaps the first preseason game, according to Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald.
Insight: This should not impact his availability for the season opener. Clay was a breakout tight end in his third season hauling in 69 balls for 749 yards and six touchdowns after catching 34 in his first two seasons combined. If the Dolphins offensive line will improve, so he doesn't have to help as often, he could continue to move up the tight end ranking.
Description: Dolphins receiver Mike Wallace (hamstring) was back on the practice field Monday.
Insight: The injury wasn't serious, but he did miss five practices. If Wallace stays healthy he should have a much better season than he did in 2013 (73 catches, 930 yards, five touchdowns) with creative new OC Bill Lazor calling the shots.
Description: According to the Miami Herald, Dolphins running back Knowshon Moreno (knee) could miss the entire preseason.
Insight: Moreno was given a timetable of 4-5 weeks when he underwent his left knee scope in June, but he's now six weeks into his rehab. Lamar Miller has flown by Moreno on the depth chart and is the only Dolphins back fantasy owners should be drafting.
Description: Dolphins receiver Mike Wallace's hamstring injury will likely keep him out past Saturday's scrimmage, according to the Miami Herald.
Insight: The injury isn't serious, but it may cause him to miss the preseason opener next Friday and prevents him from getting valuable reps with Ryan Tannehill. If Wallace stays healthy he should have a much better season than he did in 2013 (73 catches, 930 yards, five touchdowns) with creative new OC Bill Lazor calling the shots.
Description: According to the Miami Herald, "there's a hope in Dolphins camp" that Lamar Miller can play the role of LeSean McCoy in new OC Bill Lazor's offense. Lazor spent last season as the Eagles' QB coach.
Insight: Miller has outplayed free agent acquisition Knowshon Moreno this offseason and is expected to be the unquestioned starter in Week 1. Moreno is still recovering from arthroscopic knee surgery. Miller put on 6-8 pounds of muscle this offseason after ranking 24th among running backs in yards after contact last season, and coach Joe Philbin doesn't think Miller has sacrificed any speed in getting bigger. McCoy led the NFL with 366 touches last season so Miller could be ticketed for a huge workload if Lazor is serious about making him the McCoy of its offense. We should see his seventh-round ADP rise in the coming weeks.
Description: According to Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald, the Dolphins will add the read-option to the offense this season.
Insight: The Dolphins QB is athletic and this could lead to more rushing yards and touchdown opportunities. It could also open him up to more injuries. Tannehill was much improved in Year 2 and could be a viable fantasy starter this season if he continues his upward trend.
Description: Dolphins center Mike Pouncey (hip) is expected to be out until late October, according to the Miami Herald.
Insight: Pouncey needed surgery to repair a torn labrum in his hip after suffering the injury during OTAs. He was initially expected to be out the first 3-4 weeks of the season, but now he may not return until the second half. Miami improved its putrid offensive line by signing Branden Albert and drafting Ja'Wuan James, but Pouncey's loss is a big one.
Description: Dolphins DE Dion Jordan has been suspended four games for PEDs.
Insight: Both the No. 3 and No. 4 picks (Jordan and Lane Johnson) in the 2013 NFL Draft have been popped for performance-enhancing drugs in the past week. Jordan had just two sacks as a rookie and was rumored to be on the trade block this offseason. This won't help his standing in Miami.
Description: According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Dolphins running back Knowshon Moreno is expected to miss four-to-five weeks due to knee surgery.
Insight: That would give Moreno enough time to be ready for Week 1 of the regular season, but it will put him further behind Lamar Miller in the competition to be the starter. There wasn't expected to be any competition after Miami signed Moreno, but Moreno showed up a little out of shape and has been running mostly with the second team. Both players are going to be iffy fantasy options, especially with how bad the Dolphins' offensive line was last season.
Description: NBC Sports reported that Dolphins running back Knowshon Moreno may need left knee surgery.
Insight: We expected Moreno to win the top spot after a big year in Denver last season (1,038 yards rushing, 13 total TD), but this could explain why he was working with the second team. If true, and there is no confirmation at this time, Lamar Miller's fantasy value would take a giant leap forward.
Description: According to the Miami Herald, Dolphins running back Lamar Miller "remains clearly ahead" of Knowshon Moreno in the competition for the starting job.
Insight: Free agent acquisition Knowshon Moreno showed up to OTAs out of shape and has been working with the second team. Miller appears to have a realistic shot at starting the season opener but Moreno's presence will limit Miller's value.
Description: Miami running back Daniel Thomas will struggle just to make the Dolphins roster this season and shouldn't have any fantasy value barring an injury to Lamar Miller or Knowshon Moreno.
Insight: A second round selection in 2011, Thomas has never lived up to expectations. He rushed 109 times for 406 yards and four touchdowns last season, but will have to work hard in training camp to beat out Mike Gillislee and Damien Williams just to make the team.
Description: Dolphins receiver Mike Wallace will apparently move around in the formation this season as opposed to last year when he lined up on the right side 90 percent of the time, according to a Palm Beach Post report.
Insight: Wallace finished the season with 73 receptions for 930 yards five touchdowns, but more was expected of him. He may be a much better fantasy value in 2014 with expectations lowered.
Description: According to the Miami Herald, Dolphins running back Lamar Miller has been taking a lot of snaps with the first team.
Insight: Free agent acquisition Knowshon Moreno showed up to OTAs out of shape and dropped a pass Wednesday at practice. Moreno has plenty of time to get on track and will probably start the season opener, though Miller could remain involved if he impresses this preseason. Moreno shouldn't be drafted as more than a 12-team league flex option this season.
Description: Dolphins running back Knowshon Moreno has been running with the second team in OTAs, according to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald.
Insight: We expect Moreno to eventually win the top spot. Though Moreno had the best season of his career in 2013 (1,038 yards rushing, 13 total TD), he'll face a lot more players at the line this year with Ryan Tannehill under center. Fantasy owners who only consider last year's numbers will likely overbid for him on draft day.
Description: The Dolphins have taken receiver Jarvis Landry out of LSU with the 63rd-overall pick in the NFL Draft.
Insight: Landry doesn't have great speed (ran 4.77 40) or size (5-11, 205), but he does have excellent hands, toughness and route-running ability. He could replace Brandon Gibson, who is coming off surgery to repair a torn left patellar tendon, as Miami's slot receiver as a rookie if he has a good camp.
Description: Free agent tight end Dustin Keller is meeting with the Patriots on Wednesday. SOURCE: Adam Schefter, ESPN
Insight: Signing Keller would be a curious move seeing as the Patriots already have one banged up tight end on their roster in Rob Gronkowski (torn ACL). Keller could be helpful for the Pats if healthy but he's still just eight months removed from a devastating knee injury.
Description: Former Broncos running back Knowshon Moreno has agreed to a deal with the Miami Dolphins.
Insight: Moreno had the best season of his career in 2013, rushing for 1,039 yards, catching 60 balls for 548 yards and scoring 13 times. He's not likely to match those totals in Florida where they don't have the receiving weapons or the quarterback to keep the defense occupied.
Description: Dolphins left guard Richie Incognito's suspension expired on Tuesday. SOURCE: Armando Salguero, Miami Herald
Insight: Incognito is now free to sign with any team of his choosing when he becomes a free agent next month. Following the Jonathan Martin bullying scandal, it's unlikely the former Pro-Bowler will be in high demand.
Description: Miami wideout Brian Hartline suffered a torn PCL in his left knee Sunday against the Jets. SOURCE: Armando Salguero, Miami Herald
Insight: It doesn't matter much now that the Dolphins won't be going to the postseason. A PCL tear is much less serious than an ACL tear, which means Hartline is in no danger of missing training camp next summer.
Description: Ryan Tannehill will have his knee tested on Monday. SOURCE: Albert Breer, NFL Network
Insight: The Dolphins QB bowed out of Sunday's game early and now he might need an MRI. With Miami's season on the line, it's going to take something pretty major for him to sit out next week's game against the Jets.
Description: Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill left Sunday's game at Buffalo in the fourth quarter.
Insight: Matt Moore has come on after Tannehill was sacked six times. Tannehill is questionable to return with a left knee injury, according to Chris Perkins of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. He's thrown for just 82 yards on 10-of-21 passing and Miami is down 13-0.
Description: Dolphins receiver Mike Wallace caught a touchdown for the third time in his last four games Sunday against New England.
Insight: Wallace also had his fourth 100-yard effort of the season. It followed a dud (two catches, 19 yards) in Week 14 against his former team, the Pittsburgh Steelers. Wallace has 867 yards and four TDs on 64 catches this year.
Description: Dolphins running back Lamar Miller (concussion) returned to practice Tuesday, according to an ESPN report.
Insight: Miller suffered a concussion in the third quarter Sunday against the Steelers and is questionable for Week 15 against New England. Even if he plays, he'll be stuck in a timeshare with Daniel Thomas, who had 105 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries against the Steelers.
Description: Miami running back Daniel Thomas returned to the lineup Sunday and rushed for 105 yards.
Insight: Thomas was rumored to be out for the season with an ankle injury just a week ago, so this performance was a huge surprise. If starter Lamar Miller can't come back from a concussion he suffered Sunday, Thomas might have a chance to repeat the effort in Week 15.
Description: Dolphins halfback Lamar Miller is done for the day after suffering a concussion in the first half Sunday against Pittsburgh.
Insight: He finished with 20 yards on six carries. Daniel Thomas will be asked to anchor Miami's rushing attack though the Dolphins are probably looking to throw it as they trail 28-24 in the fourth quarter.
Description: Miami wideout Mike Wallace put together consecutive double-digit fantasy point games for the first time all season with seven catches, 82 yards and a touchdown Sunday against the Jets.
Insight: That followed Wallace grabbing five passes for 127 yards and a touchdown in Week 12. He'll remain an all-or-nothing WR3 going into a showdown with his former team the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 14.
Description: The Dolphins and guard Richie Incognito have agreed to a six-week cap on his suspension. SOURCE: ESPN
Insight: Martin's unpaid suspension has been reduced to two games. Overall, he was docked over $470,000 in salary. Martin, a Pro Bowler in 2012, was suspended last month for alleged bullying against teammate Jonathan Martin. Ted Wells, an independent arbitrator, is still finishing up his investigation.
Description: Dolphins halfback Daniel Thomas apparently tore ligaments in his left ankle Sunday against Carolina and could be done for the season, according to Omar Kelly of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.
Insight: Thomas was getting most of the backup carries behind Lamar Miller. It's likely that Mike Gillislee will take over that role while Thomas is sidelined.
Description: Miami wideout Mike Wallace busted out of his season-long slump Sunday in a loss to Carolina.
Insight: He finished with 127 yards on five catches. The stat line is a little deceiving as most of his yardage came on just two catches: a 53-yard touchdown in the first quarter and then a 57-yard grab to start the second. Still, it's good to see that Ryan Tannehill is looking his way again. The ten targets Wallace received were his most since October 27th against New England.
Description: Miami running back Lamar Miller was given just four handoffs Sunday against the Chargers.
Insight: The Dolphins seemingly have given up on Miller as their lead tailback in favor of Daniel Thomas, who had 10 carries for 57 yards and a touchdown against San Diego. While that could change over the rest of the regular season, there's just no reason to own Miller anymore.
Description: Dolphins receiver Mike Wallace is expected to play Sunday versus San Diego. Wallace was limited in practice this week because of a hamstring issue. SOURCE: Barry Jackson, Miami Herald
Insight: He's officially listed as questionable on Miami's injury report. Wallace caught seven balls for 112 yards last year when he faced the Chargers. Of course, that was with Ben Roethlisberger throwing to him and not his current quarterback, Ryan Tannehill.
Description: Miami offensive tackle Jonathan Martin has checked into a hospital to be treated for emotional distress. SOURCE: Chris Mortensen, ESPN
Insight: Martin left the team after being the victim of a bullying incident at the team's cafeteria last week. Since the incident, a recording of teammate Richie Incognito leaving a threatening voicemail for Martin has surfaced and now Incognito has been suspended indefinitely. Martin's college roommate at Stanford, Zach Ertz, now a tight end for the Philadelphia Eagles, said Martin expressed a desire to continue his NFL career in a phone conversation they had earlier this week. If Martin does decide to resume his football career at any point, there's a good chance it won't be with the Dolphins.
Description: Miami guard Richie Incognito has been suspended indefinitely and may never play for the Dolphins again after allegedly harassing teammate Jonathan Martin with a threatening voicemail.
Insight: The transcript of the voicemail was released today and it is horrific. Martin, a second-year lineman out of Stanford, left the team last week after being bullied by teammates at the team's dining facility. Incognito has a history of questionable behavior both on and off the football field. The contents of Incognito's voicemail, which included a racial slur, are so damaging that USA Today's Tom Pelissero suspects he'll never play in the NFL again. Obviously, this ugly incident is far from being resolved and we'll keep you updated as we learn more.
Description: Dolphins receiver Brandon Gibson suffered a torn patellar tendon Sunday against New England and will undergo surgery on Monday according to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com.
Insight: He's out for the rest of the season. Gibson was just beginning to realize his fantasy potential with three touchdowns in his last two games. Rishard Matthews will be the Dolphins' No. 3 wideout now, but he's never done anything to get fantasy owners excited.
Description: Miami receiver Brandon Gibson suffered a left knee injury early in Sunday's game against the Patriots.
Insight: Nick Underhill of MassLive.com hears that Gibson is likely done for the day. He'll finish with one catch for four yards and a touchdown. Mike Wallace and Brian Hartline will have to pick up the slack in his absence.
Description: Buccaneers defensive coordinator Bill Sheridan said cornerback Darrell Revis will likely get a lot of time covering Mike Wallace Monday against the Dolphins.
Insight: The Buccaneers have played a lot of zone this season while waiting for Revis to make it back to 100 percent after reconstructive knee surgery. According to TampaBay.com, Revis is getting to the point where he can press receivers more often and has the stamina to race step-for-step on go routes. "I'm getting back to my old self," Revis said. "I'm feeling very comfortable. The knee is feeling a lot better, the leg is feeling a lot better" Wallace leads the Dolphins with 480 yards in his first season with the team, but he should only be used as a low-end WR3 in 10-team leagues this week.
Description: Miami running back Lamar Miller had a string of three straight 60-yard rushing games snapped Sunday against the Ravens.
Insight: Miller rushed for 15 yards on seven carries. The running back's season high in carries is jus 14 and he has run the football 26 times total over the last three games. He's not doing anything in the passing game, either, catching just five passes for 21 yards. Fantasy owners cannot afford to start a player getting so few touches.
Description: Dolphins DE/LB Cameron Wake suffered a knee injury in Sunday's game and is questionable to return.
Insight: Miami's rush defense was the third-best in the NFL last year and Wake was a huge reason why. Wake led the Dolphins in sacks last season with 8.5. It could be one reason Atlanta quarterback Matt Ryan had all day to throw and his Falcons didn't punt in the first half. The Dolphins will have to figure out a way to get their defense off the field in the second half.
Description: Dolphins receiver Mike Wallace (groin) will play Sunday against the Falcons, according to Jeff Darlington of NFL.com.
Insight: A Dolphins source says that Wallace is "fine." After a quiet Week 1 against Joe Haden and the Browns, a frustrated Wallace complained about his role and ended up seeing 11 passes thrown his way in Week 2 against the Colts. He had nine catches, 115 yards and a touchdown.
Description: Dolphins receiver Mike Wallace was added to the injury list yesterday with a groin problem, but was a limited participant in Friday's session.
Insight: After a quiet Week 1, Ryan Tannehill ended up going to Wallace nine times for 115 yards and a score in the game last Sunday. They will need both Wallace and Brian Hartline if they are to hang with the Falcons' offense in Week 3.
Description: Dolphins running back Daniel Thomas played 69 snaps to Lamar Miller's 30 in Week 2, and coach Joe Philbin said he wants to keep their playing time comparable unless "one guy is breaking tackles left and right and taking the ball a long way, and the other guy is not being productive." SOURCE: Miami Herald
Insight: Despite rushing for three yards on 10 carries in Week 1 against the Browns, Miller still has a better yards-per-carry average than Thomas (3.0 to 2.8). If Miller continues to play as he did in Week 2, when he had 69 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries, there's no way the Dolphins can continue this timeshare. Continue to hold Miller and ignore Thomas.
Description: Dolphins running back Lamar Miller had 69 rushing yards and a touchdown on 14 carries Sunday at Indianapolis.
Insight: It was a nice bounce-back performance from last week, when he had three yards on 10 carries. Miami still gave Daniel Thomas eight carries Sunday and he ran for 30 yards (3.8 ypc). Miller should eventually leave Thomas in the dust.
Description: Dolphins receiver Mike Wallace doesn't have anything to complain about after getting 11 targets Sunday against the Colts.
Insight: Wallace was locked down by Browns CB Joe Haden in Week 1 and had one reception on five targets. Afterwards, he expressed frustration with his lack of activity. Ryan Tannehill ended up going to Wallace three times for 46 yards and a touchdown on the opening drive and nine times for 115 yards in the game Sunday.
Description: Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill said he won't "force" the ball to Mike Wallace, according to the Miami Herald.
Insight: "I'm going to play the quarterback position the way the coaches install the plays," Tannehill said. "I'm going to go through the reads just like they install it. We're going to try and get him the ball when he's in the play, but we're not going to force him the ball." Wallace expressed frustration with getting just five targets and catching one pass in the opener against the Browns. He'll have an easier matchup in Week 2 against the Colts because he won't have to match up with Joe Haden.
Description: Miami wideout Mike Wallace only made one catch on Sunday and he didn't seem too happy about it after the game.
Insight: "Ask coach. Not my game plan," he vented to reporters after the game. Obviously, Wallace and quarterback Ryan Tannehill still have a long way to go in terms of chemistry. Brian Hartline led the Dolphins with 114 receiving yards in Sunday's win over Cleveland.
Description: Dolphins running back Lamar Miller had a miserable day running the ball Sunday at Cleveland.
Insight: Daniel Thomas led the team in rushing yards with 14, which should tell you just how bad it was for the Dolphins' ground game Sunday. Miller finished with three yards on 10 carries, while Thomas had eight carries and stole a one-yard touchdown. Miller has a much easier matchup in Week 2 at Indianapolis.
Description: With Mike Wallace blanketed by nemesis Joe Haden, Brian Hartline drew 15 targets from Ryan Tannehill and finished with 114 yards and a touchdown on nine catches in the season opener against the Browns.
Insight: Hartline had 1,000 yards in 2012, but a good portion of them came in Week 4 at Arizona when he grabbed 12 passes for 253 yards. He has good chemistry with Tannehill, but the Dolphins didn't sign Wallace to have him be a decoy and also will not run the ball as poorly as they did Sunday (23 carries, 20 yards) every week.
Description: Miami coach Joe Philbin was not ready to give Lamar Miller the starting running back job, even after Daniel Thomas rushed for three yards on seven carries and lost three yards on a first-and-goal Saturday against the Buccaneers. SOURCE: Miami Herald
Insight: Armando Salguero of the Herald says that it would be out of character for Philbin to talk up Thomas simply to motivate Miller and prevent him from getting too comfortable, so he's stumped as to why Thomas is still involved in this competition. We don't see it lasting much longer than the preseason, however; Miller is the guy.
