Atlanta Falcons Player Notes
For The Last 365 Days

Todd Gurley, RB6/27/2015 10:22:00 AM
Description: St. Louis Rams rookie running back Todd Gurley will have a checkup with Dr. James Andrews at which time we should know more about his availability for the start of the season, according to Alex Marvez of FOX Sports.
Insight: Gurley tore his ACL in November last season, so fantasy owners need all the input they can get to evaluate when he'll be ready and therefore when he should be drafted. For keeper leagues, he'll be the Rams' most talented back since Steven Jackson in his prime.
Todd Gurley, RB6/25/2015 11:10:00 AM
Description: St. Louis Rams rookie running back Todd Gurley hopes to at least partially participate in training camp, according to an nfl.com report.
Insight: Gurley tore his ACL in November last season, so fantasy owners need all the input they can get to evaluate when he'll be ready and therefore when he should be drafted. For keeper leagues, he'll be the Rams' most talented back since Steven Jackson in his prime.
Tevin Coleman, RB6/23/2015 7:52:00 PM
Description: Atlanta Falcons rookie running back Tevin Coleman will enter training camp behind Devonta Freeman for the starting running back job according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Insight: The Falcons have bragged about Freeman's passing catching and blocking ability, but the team has left the early downs open to competition. Coleman has a high ceiling, but owners will probably want to see what kind of role he has first.
Matt Ryan, QB6/19/2015 1:04:00 PM
Description: Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan along with his receivers have indicated the team would like to be more balanced in 2015, according to an AJC report.
Insight: It's a nice theory, but that doesn't always work out in practice when your two best players are your quarterback and wide receiver. Ryan threw for 4,694 yards and 28 touchdowns against 14 interceptions.
Devonta Freeman, RB6/19/2015 1:01:00 PM
Description: It appears Falcons running back Devonta Freeman is still ahead of Indiana rookie Tevin Coleman, according to an Atlanta Journal Constitution report.
Insight: "He’s going to be a guy we're going to feature in a lot of different ways," said coach Dan Quinn. Rookies always have a lot to learn so it is expected that Freeman will be out in front in June. Check back in August.
Julio Jones, WR6/18/2015 10:18:00 AM
Description: Falcons receiver Julio Jones has been at practice everyday despite being in contract negotiations with the team.
Insight: Jones knows he needs to be on the field to learn the new Kyle Shanahan offense and that to sit out would be selfish. This has to earn him the respect of his teammates. Demaryius Thomas and Dez Bryant are you paying attention?
Jacob Tamme, TE6/18/2015 10:14:00 AM
Description: Falcons tight end Jacob Tamme appears to be the early front-runner for the job in Atlanta.
Insight: It's between Tamme, Tony Moeaki and returning starter Levine Toilolo. Moeaki is injured more than healthy amd Toilolo is limited in talent leaving Tamme. We know Matt Ryan likes to throw to his tight end if he can find one that can catch the ball and Tamme might be that guy.
Tevin Coleman, RB6/1/2015 12:19:00 PM
Description: Atlanta Falcons rookie running back Tevin Coleman (No. 73 overall pick in the third round) will get a chence to start if he can beat out Devonta Freeman.
Insight: Coleman was a very productive runner in college (Indiana), rushing for 3,219 yards and 28 touchdowns in 452 career rushes. Coleman's progress as a pass protector will likely determine whether he gets the starting gig.
Devonta Freeman, RB6/1/2015 12:15:00 PM
Description: Falcons running back Devonta Freeman opened OTAs as the first-team running back, but he's have to beat out indiana rookie Tevin Coleman to start in Week 1.
Insight: Coach Dan Quinn confirmed the two-man battle for the top spot on the depth chart. The winner of the competition should certainly have low-end starting fantasy value, though the Falcons haven't had a 1,000-yard rusher since 2011 (Michael Turner).
Justin Hardy, WR5/2/2015 12:37:00 PM
Description: The Falcons may have found their No. 3 receiver to replace Harry Douglas (Tennessee) in Justin Hardy from East Carolina.
Insight: Hardy set all kind of records at ECU with 387 receptions for 4,541 yards and 35 touchdowns, but the Falcons are set on the outside with Julio Jones and Roddy White. On the other hand, isn't White about a 100-years-old?
Tevin Coleman, RB5/1/2015 10:28:00 PM
Description: The Atlanta Falcons selected Indiana running back Travis Coleman with the No. 73 overall pick in the third round of the 2015 NFL Draft.
Insight: Coleman was a very productive runner in college, rushing for 3,219 yards and 28 touchdowns in 452 career rushes. Coleman can also pass protect, so there is a good chance he starts right away with only Devonta Freeman and Antone Smith left at running back on the Falcons roster. With Kyle Shanahan as his offensive coordinator, Coleman has high upside in fantasy this season.
Todd Gurley, RB4/30/2015 9:18:00 PM
Description: The St. Louis Rams drafted Georgia running back Todd Gurley with the No. 10 pick in the 2015 NFL Draft.
Insight: This is a big selection for Jeff Fisher and the St. Louis Rams. This is probably the Rams best running back since Stephen Jackson. However, Gurley is unlikely to play in the first month of the season according to the Miami Herald. Gurley tore his ACL in November last season, so fantasy owners probably don't need to target him in redraft leagues. In dynasty leagues, though, he is can't miss.
Todd Gurley, RB4/20/2015 4:06:00 PM
Description: Georgia star running back, Todd Gurley, received a clean bill of health from the medical recheck at the Combine.
Insight: Gurley figures to be the first or second running back off the board and should be a viable fantasy option in his rookie year depending upon where he ends up. Gurley could go as high as No. 8 to Atlanta, but more likely ends up in Arizona, Baltimore or Dallas.
Steven Jackson, RB2/26/2015 7:54:00 PM
Description: The Falcons released running back Steven Jackson.
Insight: Jackson will have trouble finding work, but could have a chance to earn a roster spot as a backup. He likely will not be relevant in 2015 no matter what. For now, Devonta Freeman is atop the depth chart in Atlanta.
Julio Jones, WR12/29/2014 11:29:00 AM
Description: Falcons receiver Julio Jones was active for Week 17, but not productive.
Insight: Jones caught four balls for 58 yards. Fantasy owners expect triple digits every time out from this uber-talented receiver. He finished the season with 104 receptions for 1,593 yards and six touchdowns.
Roddy White, WR12/29/2014 11:26:00 AM
Description: Falcons receiver Roddy White caught eight of 12 targets for 104 yards.
Insight: A lot of them were after the game was already decided, but fantasy owners don't care. It was a better season than 2013 for White, but below average by his normal standards.
Matt Ryan, QBCold12/29/2014 11:24:00 AM
Description: Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan threw up a clunker just when his team and fantasy owners needed him.
Insight: ryan was 29-of-47 for 260 yards, no touchdowns and a pair of interception. it was the interceptions that was the killer, as both were returned for touchdowns.
Julio Jones, WR12/28/2014 3:45:00 PM
Description: Falcons receiver Julio Jones is active for Week 17, as expected.
Insight: He had seven receptions for 107 yards on eight targets last weekend without practice. He's a must start.
Jacquizz Rodgers, RB12/26/2014 3:57:00 PM
Description: Falcons running back Jacquizz Rodgers is expected to start at running back with Stephen Jackson injured.
Insight: Rodgers is a better pass blocker than Devonta Freeman, so Rodgers will start and play a majority of the snaps. Freeman will rotate in and see a decent amount of opportunities. Rodgers had 11 carries and 29 yards last week, but Freeman was more explosive as he ran for a 36 yards on five rushes, including a 31-yard touchdown.
Julio Jones, WR12/25/2014 9:42:00 AM
Description: Falcons receiver Julio Jones didn't practice Wednesday, but is still expected to play in the big game Sunday.
Insight: He had seven receptions for 107 yards on eight targets last weekend without practice. He's likely to be conservative about practice this week too, so don't let this stop you from starting him against Carolina in Week 17.
Devonta Freeman, RB12/25/2014 9:28:00 AM
Description: Falcons running back Devonta Freeman had a team-high 36 rushing yards on Sunday and should see a big jump in rushing attempts against Carolina with starter Steven Jackson sidelined.
Insight: He did so on only five carries, but ripped off a 31-yard touchdown run. Figure his for 12-15 carries in Week 17 and low-end fantasy value.
Jacquizz Rodgers, RB12/25/2014 9:25:00 AM
Description: Falcons running back Jacquizz Rodgers will see an uptick in snaps with starter Steven Jackson sidelined by a quad injury.
Insight: Rodgers still doesn't qualify as an every down back and Devonta Freeman could see more rushing attempts with Rodgers sticking to his third-down/receiving back role.
Steven Jackson, RB12/25/2014 9:22:00 AM
Description: Falcons running back Steven Jackson's quad injury will keep him out of the showdown for the NFC South title.
Insight: Jackson will be replaced by a combination of Devonta Freeman and Jacquizz Rodgers. After he was injured Rodgers saw more snaps than Freeman, but Freeman is the better early down runner.
Roddy White, WR12/21/2014 5:44:00 PM
Description: Falcons receiver Roddy White had six receptions on Sunday.
Insight: He recorded 55 yards on nine targets. White lacks the seperation ability he once had, making him more of a WR3.
Julio Jones, WR12/21/2014 5:43:00 PM
Description: Falcons receiver Julio Jones looked completely healthy during Sunday's win against New Orleans.
Insight: He had seven receptions for 107 yards on eight targets, and simply did not look limited at all.
Devonta Freeman, RB12/21/2014 5:42:00 PM
Description: Falcons running back Devonta Freeman had a team-high 36 rushing yards on Sunday.
Insight: He did so on only five carries, and scored a touchdown as well. Freeman is not a recommended option.
Matt Ryan, QB12/21/2014 5:40:00 PM
Description: Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan had a solid day during Sunday's win over the Saints.
Insight: He went 30-of-40 for 322 yards and one score. Ryan has played well down the stretch and will now try and help Atlanta earn a playoff berth in Week 17.
Harry Douglas, WR12/21/2014 11:56:00 AM
Description: Falcons receiver Harry Douglas, who led the team with 10 catches for 131 yards in Week 15, returns to a backup role with Julio Jones and Roddy White starting.
Insight: Douglas could still be viable if Jones is used as a decoy, but that's a high risk for fantasy owners to take in Week 16.
Julio Jones, WR12/21/2014 11:22:00 AM
Description: Falcons receiver Julio Jones (hip/oblique) is expected to play Sunday, according to Chris Mortensen.
Insight: That still doesn't tell you if he'll be active in the offense or a decoy, but at least he will be out there in uniform. Harry Douglas and Roddy White get a reduction in their fantasy value, particularly Douglas.
Julio Jones, WR12/19/2014 2:08:00 PM
Description: Falcons receiver Julio Jones (hip) did not practice on Friday and while he's still a game-time decision fantasy owners shouldn't expect him to play.
Insight: Have Harry Douglas and Roddy White ready to go.
Julio Jones, WR12/17/2014 2:03:00 PM
Description: Falcons receiver Julio Jones (hip) did not practice on Wednesday.
Insight: It is too soon to tell if Jones will play. While head coach Mike Smith expects him back, we are not as sure. Stay tuned.
Devin Hester, KR12/14/2014 5:19:00 PM
Description: Falcons KR/WR Devin Hester caught a touchdown pass versus the Steelers.
Insight: Hester was second for Atlanta in receiving yards with 85 on five catches. The touchdown made his day extra good for owners who rolled with him.
Roddy White, WR12/14/2014 5:15:00 PM
Description: Falcons receiver Roddy White had seven catches for 58 yards against the Steelers.
Insight: Without Julio Jones, owners likely wanted more from White, but Harry Douglas stole the show with 10 catches and 131 yards. White did have a touchdown to avoid an all-out fantasy dud.
Harry Douglas, WR12/14/2014 5:12:00 PM
Description: Falcons receiver Harry Douglas led the team with 10 catches for 131 yards in Week 15.
Insight: The owners who gambled with Doulgas were rewarded with his best game of the season. He didn't find the end zone, but his team-high 14 targets was enough for him to accumulate great numbers. Douglas would be a good option next week as well against the Saints if Julio Jones has to miss another game.
Steven Jackson, RB12/14/2014 5:07:00 PM
Description: Falcons running back Steven Jackson had an alright fantasy day with 11 carries and 46 yards.
Insight: Atlanta turned to Matt Ryan and the passing game as they trailed the Steelers, 20-7, at halftime. Jackson had a decent average, but without a touchdown, he didn't help many owners advance to the championship.
Matt Ryan, QB12/14/2014 5:04:00 PM
Description: Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan threw for two touchdowns and one interception against the Steelers in Week 15.
Insight: The interception was the difference in the game as William Gay returned it for a touchdown and Atlanta lost, 27-20, but for fantasy owners Ryan had a good day. He was 26-of-37 for 310 yards with the two touchdowns and one turnover. He is a good option next week in New Orleans for fantasy championship week.
Roddy White, WR12/14/2014 12:11:00 PM
Description: Falcons receiver Roddy White is active and will be Matt Ryan's No. 1 target in Week 15 versus the Steelers.
Insight: With Julio Jones out with a hip injury, White will be asked to carry the load in the passing game along with Harry Douglas. There should be a lot of passing opportunities for White because the Steelers and Falcons both love to score and don't play good defense.
Julio Jones, WR12/14/2014 11:06:00 AM
Description: Falcons receiver Julio Jones will not play against the Falcons due to his hip injury.
Insight: Jones suffered a hip pointer in the Monday night loss in Green Bay. That's too bad because Jones has gone for a career-high in yards each of the last two weeks and had a juicy matchup at home versus the Steelers. Harry Douglas has a huge bump in value this week and is a great play.
Julio Jones, WR12/13/2014 10:52:00 AM
Description: Falcons receiver Julio Jones (hip) apparently "can barely run," according to D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Insight: Ledbetter added Jones will likely be a decoy if active, but also does not think he will suit up. No matter what, Jones looks to be far less than 100 percent, and even if he plays, we unfortunately have to recommend keeping him on the bench.
Roddy White, WR12/11/2014 4:44:00 PM
Description: Falcons receiver Roddy White (ankle) was limited during Thursday's practice session.
Insight: He admitted that he is not at 100 percent, but if Julio Jones cannot play on Sunday, White will be a WR2.
Harry Douglas, WR12/11/2014 4:41:00 PM
Description: Falcons receiver Harry Douglas (foot) was limited on Thursday.
Insight: Douglas should be fine to play, and with the uncertain status of Julio Jones, Douglas could be a WR3 for Sunday against Pittsburgh.
Julio Jones, WRHot12/11/2014 1:46:00 PM
Description: Falcons receiver Julio Jones missed Thursday's practice, but coach Mike Smith still said there is a good chance he would play Sunday.
Insight: Jones showed off his unbelievable talents, catching 11 of 17 targets for 259 yards and a touchdown last weekend, but injured his hip in the fourth quarter.
Harry Douglas, WR12/9/2014 9:14:00 AM
Description: The return of Roddy White sent Falcons wide receiver Harry Douglas back to his backup role.
Insight: Douglas caught just two balls for 11 yards after posting a 9-116-0 total the previous weekend as a starter. His value is minimal unless White or Julio Jones are inactive.
Roddy White, WR12/9/2014 9:13:00 AM
Description: Falcons receiver Roddy White was active for Monday night's tilt against the Packers, but played second fiddle to Julio Jones.
Insight: White caught three of five targets for 42 yards, but a touchdown reception made his night palatable for fantasy owners.
Matt Ryan, QBHot12/9/2014 9:09:00 AM
Description: Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan was 24-of-39 for 375 yards, four touchdowns and one interception.
Insight: Ryan has always been a much better home quarterback than on the road, but this time he got the ball to Julio Jones and the talented wideout did the rest. It's his second consecutive game with at least 360 yards passing and he faces a vulnerable Steelers secondary, at home, in Week 15.
Steven Jackson, RBHot12/9/2014 9:06:00 AM
Description: Falcons running back Steven Jackson wasn't as good as last weekend, but still managed double-digit fantasy points.
Insight: Jackson rushed 16 times for 50 yards and a score and added a couple of receptions for 26 yards. He's been much improved in the second half of the season and is a viable RB2 down the stretch.
Julio Jones, WRHot12/9/2014 9:02:00 AM
Description: In front of a national audience, Falcons receiver Julio Jones showed off his unbelievable talents, catching 11 of 17 targets for 259 yards and a touchdown.
Insight: All-Pro Patrick Peterson couldn't stop Jones last weekend and the Packers had even less luck. He did leave in the fourth quarter with an apparent hip injury which will have fantasy owners concerned for Week 15.
Roddy White, WR12/8/2014 7:14:00 PM
Description: Falcons receiver Roddy White is active for Monday night's tilt against the Packers.
Insight: White is available to owners who wish to use him, though, the Packers secondary has been a lot better lately, and the snowy weather conditions are not ideal for the passing game. Harry Douglas is also active.
Roddy White, WR12/1/2014 4:40:00 PM
Description: Falcons receiver Roddy White is expected back for Week 14.
Insight: This is according to head coach Mike Smith. While Smith is confident, we would like to see White participate in a few practices this week, before we declare him ready to go.
Harry Douglas, WRHot12/1/2014 10:04:00 AM
Description: Falcons wide receiver Harry Douglas started in place of injured Roddy White Sunday and was very active.
Insight: Douglas saw as many targets as Julio Jones (12) and earned the 100-yard bonus by catching nine balls for 116 yards. When White returns to the lineup, Douglas' fantasy value goes south.
Julio Jones, WRHot12/1/2014 10:02:00 AM
Description: Falcons receiver Julio Jones caught 10 of 12 targets for a career-high 189 yards and a touchdown.
Insight: Even All-Pro Patrick Peterson couldn't stop Jones.
Matt Ryan, QB12/1/2014 9:58:00 AM
Description: Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan was 30-of-41 for 361 yards and a pair of touchdowns as the Falcons upset Arizona.
Insight: Ryan continues to be a much better passer at home (108 QB rating) versus on the road (81.4). He's got one more home game on the schedule for you to start him, against Pittsburgh in Week 15.
Steven Jackson, RBHot12/1/2014 9:55:00 AM
Description: Falcons running back Steven Jackson ran well in the first drive of the day and finished with a season-high 101 yards.
Insight: It's the first 100-yard bonus he's earned since November of 2012. We're not sold he'll reproduce this total any time soon.
Harry Douglas, WR11/30/2014 2:56:00 PM
Description: Falcons wide receiver Harry Douglas will start in place of injured Roddy White Sunday.
Insight: Douglas could become a viable fantasy option, though the Cardinals defense has played pretty well this season.
Roddy White, WR11/30/2014 2:55:00 PM
Description: Falcons receiver Roddy White is inactove for Week 13.
Insight: White had not practiced all week, so this should not be a surprise to fantasy owners. Harry Douglas is playing and should be a nice low-end fantasy option.
Julio Jones, WR11/23/2014 6:26:00 PM
Description: Falcons receiver Julio Jones scored his first touchdown in his last eight games.
Insight: It was the longest drought of his career. Jones finished the day with five catches for 68 yards.
Roddy White, WR11/23/2014 6:25:00 PM
Description: Falcons receiver Roddy White had a nice day Sunday against the Browns.
Insight: He had nine catches for 96 yards, which led the team. White should continue to be a solid WR2.
Steven Jackson, RB11/23/2014 6:23:00 PM
Description: Falcons running back Steven Jackson scored a touchdown in Week 12's loss to Cleveland.
Insight: He also rushed 13 times for 34 yards and caught two passes for 17 yards. Jackson is more than a RB3.
Matt Ryan, QB11/23/2014 6:21:00 PM
Description: Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan had an up-and-down afternoon against the Browns.
Insight: While he threw for 273 yards and two touchdowns, Ryan also had one interception and one lost fumble. He is still a QB1 for Week 13.
Julio Jones, WR11/23/2014 12:09:00 PM
Description: Falcons receiver Julio Jones (illness) has returned to practice Friday and so it's not a surprise that he's ready to go Sunday.
Insight: He still has a tough matchup, facing Pro Bowl cornerback in Joe Haden, so may not be a top play.
Julio Jones, WR11/21/2014 11:54:00 AM
Description: Falcons receiver Julio Jones (illness) has returned to practice Friday.
Insight: Jones figured to be fine, but it's was worth watching. He still has a tough matchup, facing cornerback in Joe Haden, so may not be a top play.
Julio Jones, WR11/20/2014 1:28:00 PM
Description: Falcons receiver Julio Jones has missed another practice due to illness.
Insight: Jones figures to be fine by the weekend and in fact is expected to practice Friday, but it's worth watching. If he's less than 100 percent and facing a tough cornerback in Joe Haden he might not be a top play.
Antone Smith, RB11/17/2014 3:18:00 PM
Description: Falcons backup running back Antone Smith (knee) has been placed on injured reserve and is done for the season.
Insight: Smith had been an under-utilized asset for most of the season with the ability to score from anywhere on the field.
Robert Alford, CB11/17/2014 3:02:00 PM
Description: Atlanta starting right corner Robert Alford suffered a broken wrist Sunday and is expected to miss 2-4 games.
Insight: This injury will make the Falcons defense, already suspect, even more so.
Harry Douglas, WR11/16/2014 6:16:00 PM
Description: Falcons wide receiver Harry Douglas played on Sunday and caught four passes for 46 yards.
Insight: Douglas caught all four of his targets. He is only viable in very deep fantasy leagues.
Julio Jones, WR11/16/2014 6:13:00 PM
Description: Falcons receiver Julio Jones caught six passes for 59 yards against the Panthers.
Insight: Again, Jones did not find the end zone. He has not scored since Oct. 12. Jones, however, remains a WR1.
Roddy White, WR11/16/2014 6:09:00 PM
Description: Falcons receiver Roddy White led the team with eight catches, 75 yards and caught a touchdown against the Panthers in Week 11.
Insight: White led the team with 12 targets as well. It continues to be anyone's best guess as to whether Julio Jones or White will lead the Falcons in receiving any given week.
Steven Jackson, RB11/16/2014 6:06:00 PM
Description: Falcons running back Steven Jackson went back to his normal form in Week 11.
Insight: Jackson had rushing touchdowns in each of his last two games, but on Sunday, he rushed for just 41 yards on 17 carries.
Matt Ryan, QB11/16/2014 6:02:00 PM
Description: Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan threw for 268 yards and a touchdown against the Panthers.
Insight: He is a borderline QB1 moving forward. Even with all his weapons healthy, Ryan has lost his big-play potential because of all the holes on his offensive line.
Harry Douglas, WR11/16/2014 11:41:00 AM
Description: Falcons wide receiver Harry Douglas is active for Sunday's game against the Panthers.
Insight: So is Devin Hester, but neither player isn't expected to have much of a fantasy impact. If owners are forced to start either of these players, at least they will be active.
Harry Douglas, WR11/14/2014 1:45:00 PM
Description: Falcons backup wide receiver Harry Douglas is questionable for Week 11
Insight: he has just three receptions since Week 3 and has no fantasy value at this time..
Roddy White, WR11/9/2014 7:20:00 PM
Description: Falcons receiver Roddy White scored a touchdown in Sunday's victory against Tampa Bay.
Insight: He had six receptions for 72 yards, on six targets. White is more of a borderline WR2 at this point in his career.
Julio Jones, WR11/9/2014 7:19:00 PM
Description: Falcons receiver Julio Jones had a team-high 119 receiving yards.
Insight: Jones had eight catches on 11 targets, and is quietly having another productive season. He is clearly a WR1.
Steven Jackson, RB11/9/2014 7:17:00 PM
Description: Falcons running back Steven Jackson played well in Week 10.
Insight: He had 16 rushes for 81 yards and a touchdown, along with two catches for 14 yards. However, Jackson is still no more than an RB3.
Matt Ryan, QB11/9/2014 7:16:00 PM
Description: Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryanthrew for 219 yards in Sunday's win over Tampa Bay.
Insight: He also threw a touchdown, and should be considered a borderline QB1.
Devin Hester, KR11/9/2014 4:56:00 PM
Description: Falcons KR/WR Devin Hester left Sunday's game against Tampa Bay with an ankle injury.
Insight: Hester hasn't done anything fantasy worthy since Week 4 and the injury shouldn't change any lineups or rosters for next weekend.
Julio Jones, WR11/6/2014 2:38:00 PM
Description: Falcons receiver Julio Jones says he's finally 100 percent over the ankle injury, according to Vaughn McClure tweet.
Insight: Jones hasn't scored since Week 3 and didn't crack the 70-yard mark in the three games before Atlanta's bye last weekend. We expect to see the "old" Jones against a Bucs defense that he toasted earlier this season.
Roddy White, WR10/26/2014 1:09:00 PM
Description: Falcons receiver Roddy White led his team in targets, but it was just six.
Insight: He caught five for a team-high 66 yards, but he couldn't find the end zone. The two touchdown passes were scored by Devonta Freeman and Bear Pascoe. That couldn't have helped many fantasy owners.
Julio Jones, WR10/26/2014 1:08:00 PM
Description: Falcons receiver Julio Jones was limited to just 58 yards on four catches.
Insight: That won't make any of his fantasy owners happy. He was tied with Roddy White for targets with six, but we like to see him targeted 10 times or more per game.
Steven Jackson, RB10/26/2014 1:05:00 PM
Description: Falcons running back Steven Jackson got off to a quick start, but like his team he failed in the second 30 minutes to help his team of fantasy owners.
Insight: Still, he finished with 60 yards and a touchdown for double-digits. it's just the third time this season he's scored 10 points or more.
Matt Ryan, QB10/26/2014 1:02:00 PM
Description: Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan was impreesive in the first half against the Lions but disappeared after the break and finished with 228 yards, two scores and one interception.
Insight: Since he was 14-of-17 for 160 yards and both scores in the first half, the second 30 minutes must have been torture for his fantasy owners.
Antone Smith, RB10/26/2014 11:16:00 AM
Description: Falcons backup running back Antone Smith suffered a neck injury and his return is questionable.
Insight: Smith has been under-utilized for most of the season despite his explosive abilities, so expect more to the plodding Steven Jackson.
Gabe Carimi, OL10/26/2014 10:53:00 AM
Description: Falcons OL Gabe Carimi suffered an ankle injury and his return is questionable.
Insight: The Atlanta offensive line isn't very deep, but with a 21-0 lead they may be able to survive without him.
Harry Douglas, WR10/26/2014 8:53:00 AM
Description: Falcons wide receiver Harry Douglas is active for Sunday's game in London against Detroit.
Insight: Devin Hester drops to the No. 4 wideout, behind Julio Jones, Roddy White and Douglas.
Julio Jones, WR10/26/2014 8:51:00 AM
Description: Falcons receiver Julio Jones was limited in practice earlier in the week, but was never really a question mark for Week 8 and as expected is active.
Insight: Jones (49-676-3) and the Falcons face a Lions defense which has stubbornly yielded a league-low seven touchdown passes this season (tied with Baltimore).
Julio Jones, WR10/23/2014 11:57:00 AM
Description: Falcons receiver Julio Jones was limited in Wednesday's practice, but was a full participant in Thursday's session and should be in all fantasy lineups Sunday morning.
Insight: Many players take Wednesday's practice off and it's not a real indicator of whether a player is ready for Sunday. Jones and the Falcons face a Lions defense which has stubbornly yielded a league-low seven touchdown passes this season (tied with Baltimore).
Antone Smith, RB10/19/2014 6:23:00 PM
Description: Falcons backup running back Antone Smith had five touches against the Ravens on Sunday.
Insight: Smith broke his streak of consecutive games with a touchdown at five. It appeared the Falcons were trying to get Smith more involved, but the Atlanta rushing attack was horrible, not giving Smith many opportunities.
Roddy White, WR10/19/2014 6:18:00 PM
Description: Falcons receiver Roddy White was not at all a decoy on Sunday against the Ravens.
Insight: In fact, he was the only worthy Falcons fantasy player to start. He had nine catches for 100 yards and a touchdown. White also had 15 targets, seven more than his buddy Julio Jones.
Steven Jackson, RBCold10/19/2014 6:15:00 PM
Description: The Falcons rushed for 68 yards against the Ravens and has not had a 100-yard rusher in the last 33 games.
Insight: That almost directly coincides with Steven Jackson's tenure as the starting running back in Atlanta. He has eight carries for 22 yards in Baltimore in Week 7.
Matt Ryan, QB10/19/2014 6:09:00 PM
Description: Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan was 29-for-44 for 228 yards and threw one touchdown.
Insight: Ryan and the Falcons offense was pretty bad. Atlanta scored just one touchdown, averaging 3.9 yards per play in the game. At least Ryan did not throw an interception.
Harry Douglas, WR10/19/2014 12:10:00 PM
Description: Falcons wide receiver Harry Douglas is inactive for Sunday's game in Baltimore.
Insight: For a second straight week, Devin Hester will be the No. 3 wide out, behind Julio Jones and Roddy White.
Jacquizz Rodgers, RBCold10/15/2014 8:11:00 AM
Description: Falcons running back Jacquizz Rodgers has all but disappeared with the emergence of Antone Smith.
Insight: Smith is doing what Rodgers hasn't been able to do over the past three season, give the Falcons backfield an explosive weapon who can score from anywhere on the field.
Roddy White, WRCold10/13/2014 10:59:00 AM
Description: Falcons receiver Roddy White has become a high-priced decoy.
Insight: White has yet to crack 75 yards receiving in a game this season despite averaging eight targets per game.
Julio Jones, WR10/13/2014 10:57:00 AM
Description: Falcons receiver Julio Jones was targeted 12 times, but caught just four for 68 yards.
Insight: Jones seems to be in a pattern of producing big games every other week and this was an off week. Look for a bounce back game against Baltimore.
Antone Smith, RBHot10/13/2014 10:55:00 AM
Description: Falcons backup running back Antone Smith once again scored from long range - this time on a 41-yard reception.
Insight: The most explosive back in Atlanta isn't Steven Jackson or Jacquizz Rodgers it's Smith who has five touchdowns this season from 54, 38, 48, 74 and 41 yards.
Matt Ryan, QB10/13/2014 10:50:00 AM
Description: Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan threw for 271 yards, one touchdown and one interception.
Insight: Ryan is averaging 308.3 ypg this season. He's been much better at home (335.0 ypg) than on the road (.281.7) and is a viable fantasy option when playing in Atlanta.
Steven Jackson, RBCold10/13/2014 10:50:00 AM
Description: Does anyone besides me wonder why Falcons running back Steven Jackson still has the starting job?
Insight: Jackson rushed for 25 yards on six carries Sunday against Chicago which is above his season average of 3.8 ypc. Isn't it time to give Antone Smith a shot as the starter based on what he's done?
Harry Douglas, WR10/9/2014 1:35:00 PM
Description: Falcons No. 3 wideout Harry Douglas missed last Sunday and has yet to practice this week, making him questionable for the Bears game.
Insight: Devin Hester will be used in the Douglas No. 3 role, behind Julio Jones and Roddy White.
Harry Douglas, WR10/3/2014 3:56:00 PM
Description: Falcons No. 3 wideout Harry Douglas is out of Sunday afternnoon's game against the Giants.
Insight: The Falcons will have to make do with Julio Jones and Roddy White as starters and devin Hester in the Douglas No. 3 role.
Matt Ryan, QB9/30/2014 3:41:00 PM
Description: It will take a brave fantasy owner to start Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan in Week 5 as all the indicators point downward.
Insight: Ryan has thrown five interceptions in two road games this year after throwing 14 on the road (versus three at home) last season. And on Tuesday 40 percent of his starting offensive line was placed on injured reserve (RT Lamar Holmes and C Joe Hawley). That's going to be a lot to overcome.
Roddy White, WR9/29/2014 10:39:00 AM
Description: Falcons receiver Roddy White was active as promised and led the team with 14 targets in Week 4 against Minnesota.
Insight: His hamstring injury was never a real concern. He turned those targets into 73 yards and one touchdown. We think Ryan forced the ball to White too often and down the road will utilize Julio Jones more, but we're happy to see White was healthy.
Julio Jones, WR9/29/2014 10:37:00 AM
Description: Falcons receiver Julio Jones had a very pedestrian six catch, 82-yard day.
Insight: Ryan targeted Roddy White 14 times and Jones eight times and Devin Hester seven times.
Antone Smith, RB9/29/2014 10:34:00 AM
Description: The most explosive back in Atlanta isn't Steven Jackson or Jacquizz Rodgers it's Antone Smith.
Insight: Too bad he doesn't get enough work to be fantasy worthy. Sunday he rushed four times for 62 yards, including a 48-yard touchdown. He's run the ball 10 times this season for 119 yards and two touchdowns. Isn't it about time to stop using plodding Steven Jackson?
Matt Ryan, QB9/29/2014 10:32:00 AM
Description: Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan continues to struggle on the road, though he did throw for 298 yards and three touchdowns.
Insight: He also threw two interceptions and that's five in two road games this year after throwing 14 on the road (versus three at home) last season. He's become an "only start at home guy."
Roddy White, WR9/28/2014 3:38:00 PM
Description: Falcons receiver Roddy White is indeed active for Week 4 against Minnesota as he said he would be.
Insight: His hamstring injury was never a real concern as he practiced all week. He is practicing this week. He's the No. 2 target behind Julio Jones.
Harry Douglas, WR9/28/2014 3:37:00 PM
Description: Falcons No. 3 wideout Harry Douglas is out of Sunday afternnoon's game against Minnesota.
Insight: The Falcons get starter Roddy White back this week, just in time.
Roddy White, WR9/26/2014 2:06:00 PM
Description: Coach Mike Smith said Falcons receiver Roddy White will absolutely start in Week 4 against Minnesota.
Insight: His hamstring injury was never a real concern. He is practicing this week and in the past, White plays when he practices.
Roddy White, WR9/25/2014 12:13:00 PM
Description: Falcons receiver Roddy White said he feels good to go for Sunday's game against the Vikings according to atlantafalcons.com.
Insight: White sat out last Thursday's game due to a short week. His hamstring injury was never a real concern. He is practicing this week and in the past, White plays when he practices.
Devin Hester, KR9/19/2014 3:46:00 PM
Description: Not long after setting an NFL record for return touchdowns, Falcons KR/WR Devin Hester left the field with a leg problem.
Insight: Hester's apparent leg injury Thursday night that turned out to be just cramping and he's probable for Sept 28 against Minnesota.
Matt Ryan, QB9/19/2014 9:12:00 AM
Description: Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan was a stunning 21-of-24 (87.5 percent) for 286 yards and three touchdowns.
Insight: Ryan and the Falcons could do no wrong in the 56-14 annihilation of Tampa Bay, but the big lead ended his hopes of earning the 300-yard passing bonus.
Devin Hester, KR9/18/2014 10:39:00 PM
Description: Not long after setting an NFL record for return touchdowns, Devin Hester was seen walking to the locker room with an apparent leg injury.
Insight: The 31-year-old scored the last two touchdowns of the first hald, first on a run and the second a beautiful 62 yard punt return. He was injured while going out for a pass in the next drive. Update: Hester has returned and is playing at the wideout position as the teams play in the third quarter.
Devin Hester, KR9/18/2014 10:10:00 PM
Description: Not long after setting an NFL record for return touchdowns, Devin Hester was seen walking to the locker room with an apparent leg injury.
Insight: The 31-year-old scored the last two touchdowns of the first hald, first on a run and the second a beautiful 62 yard punt return. He was injured while going out for a pass in the next drive. Given the 35-0 score, his return is unlikely.
Harry Douglas, WR9/18/2014 10:08:00 PM
Description: Falcons No. 3 wideout Harry Douglas is out of Thursday night's game after suffering a left foot injury.
Insight: Douglas scored the first touchdown of the game before leaving. He joins Roddy White on the sidelines leaving the Falcons very short at the position.
Jake Matthews, OT9/18/2014 7:25:00 PM
Description: Falcons left tackle Jake Matthews is inactive for Thursday night's game against the Buccaneers.
Insight: Matthews left during the Week 1 matchup with the Saints due to an ankle injury and has not returned. Gabe Carimi will once again play left tackle and protect Matt Ryan's blind side.
Roddy White, WR9/18/2014 7:21:00 PM
Description: Falcons receiver Roddy White is inactive for Thursday's game against the Buccaneers.
Insight: CBS' Jason La Canfora reported he did "not expect" White to be active on Thursday, which was news to us because the Falcons had been adament that White would play. Regardless, take White out of your lineup immediately and find a replacement.
Roddy White, WR9/18/2014 4:55:00 PM
Description: CBS' Jason La Canfora does "not expect" Roddy White to be active for Thursday's game against the Buccaneers.
Insight: This is news to us as the Falcons and Atlanta media have continually indicated that White will play despite missing practice all week. There is a chance that White is used as a decoy, but the La Canfora report is still very odd. Regardless, be wary that White is not at full strength, on a short week and has been used as a decoy when nursing a hamstring injury before.
Harry Douglas, WR9/16/2014 4:30:00 PM
Description: Falcons wideout Harry Douglas is back to being the No. 3 guy in the pecking order.
Insight: Actually that's an upgrade for when Tony Gonzalez was in Atlanta he too was also ahead of Douglas. We've saw Douglas has the talent to be a fantasy starter last season when Roddy White and Julio Jones were sidelined, but it will take more injuries to make him fantasy worthy in 2014.
Roddy White, WR9/16/2014 4:25:00 PM
Description: Falcons receiver Roddy White (knee) had a quiet day Sunday, catching just five balls for 42 yards.
Insight: White banged his knee in Week 1 and facing a tough Bengals defense figured to struggle and he did. He should be feeling better for the matchup with the Bucs, but not matter how good he feels if Julio Jones is in the lineup, White is the No. 2 target.
Julio Jones, WR9/14/2014 5:40:00 PM
Description: Falcons receiver Julio Jones caught seven passes for 88 yards and a touchdown against the Bengals in Week 2.
Insight: It was a rough day overall for the Atlanta passing game as Ryan threw three interceptions, but Jones finished with a fine stat line. Ryan targeted him 13 times, five more than anyone else.
Matt Ryan, QB9/14/2014 5:22:00 PM
Description: Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan finished 24-of-44 for 231 yards with one touchdown and three interceptions against the Bengals in Week 2.
Insight: Ryan followed up his 448 yard and three touchdown Week 1 with a huge dud in Week 2. Fantasy owners could not have expected a repeat of those Week 2 numbers but Ryan was still very disappointing in Cincinnati. We still like him to have a big season, but in bad matchups like Sunday's was, it would be wise to lower expectations a lot or even find a plug-in replacement.
Roddy White, WR9/14/2014 12:08:00 PM
Description: Falcons receiver Roddy White (knee) is "good to go" for Week 2 against the Bengals and officially active.
Insight: White banged his knee at the end of a 39-yard catch on Sunday against the Saints, which he admitted was a concern initially, but the receiver is no longer worried. White is slated to be a low-end WR1 and strong WR2 this week.
Jake Matthews, OT9/12/2014 8:43:00 PM
Description: Falcons left tackle Jake Matthews (ankle) has been ruled out for Week 2.
Insight: Matthews left the Week 1 matchup against the Saints with an ankle injury. Gabe Carimi replaced Matthews last week and will play left tackle on Sunday against the Bengals. Carimi allowed a sack, four hurries and took three penalties in place of Matthews last week. Until Matthews returns, Matt Ryan should feel some more pressure on his blind side.
Roddy White, WR9/11/2014 3:46:00 PM
Description: Falcons receiver Roddy White (knee) is "good to go" for Week 2 against the Bengals.
Insight: White banged his knee at the end of a 39-yard catch on Sunday against the Saints, which he admitted was a concern initially, but the receiver is no longer worried. Obviously, any injury, no matter how minor, is a concern for a 32-year-old receiver who missed time last year, but White is slated to be a low-end WR1 and strong WR2 this week.
Matt Ryan, QBHot9/7/2014 6:12:00 PM
Description: Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan was a fantasy monster Sunday, throwing for 448 yards and three scores without an interception.
Insight: Ryan was sacked just one time as his offensive line, a weak point last season, held up against the Saints. If they can continue to give Ryan protection, he's going to do a lot more damage with his three high-quality targets (Julio Jones, Roddy White, Harry Douglas).
Jake Matthews, OT9/7/2014 3:05:00 PM
Description: Falcons left tackle Jake Matthews is questionable to return after suffering an ankle injury in the second quarter.
Insight: Matthews was limping as he came out of the locker room for the second half, and did not have his helmet. He is unlikely to return. Quarterback Matt Ryan has thrown two touchdowns already, but this is not good for his protection.
Steven Jackson, RB9/4/2014 11:21:00 AM
Description: Falcons running back Steven Jackson is not listed on the team's Week 1 injury report.
Insight: Jackson has also been practicing and is not expected to be held back at all in the expected shootout with the Saints on Sunday. The 31-year-old did not take a single snap in preseason. At his age and with his below average offensive line though, we would keep Jackson's expectations in check.
Tony Gonzalez, TE8/28/2014 1:04:00 PM
Description: Former Falcons tight end Tony Gonzalez reiterated that he didn't want to play anymore in response to a question from Ben Volin of the Boston Globe.
Insight: Gonzalez did say he had inquires from a number of teams in the offseason. He'll finish his 17-year career with 1,325 receptions for 15,127 yards and 111 TDs. He would probably still be a fantasy starter if he came back even at age 38.
Roddy White, WR8/23/2014 10:17:00 PM
Description: Falcons receiver Roddy White caught three passes for 34 yards in Saturday's preseason game against the Titans.
Insight: White looks to be the underneath, possession receiver this year with Julio Jones clearly taking the big play wide receiver role. But if White can actually stay healthy this season, he could see a lot more targets with Tony Gonzalez retiring. He is a value pick in the fourth or fifth round.
Julio Jones, WR8/23/2014 9:57:00 PM
Description: Falcons receiver Julio Jones caught two passes including a touchdown in Saturday's preseason game against the Titans.
Insight: Matt Ryan found Jones for a 52-yard TD pass in the second quarter. Seeing as how well Ryan looked on Saturday and due to the fact the Falcons look poised to be in a lot of high scoring games, Jones definitely has potential to return to those 2012 numbers in which he caught 79 balls for 1,198 yards and 10 touchdowns.
Matt Ryan, QB8/23/2014 9:27:00 PM
Description: Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan completed 18-of-23 passes for 224 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions in Saturday's preseason game against the Titans.
Insight: Ryan looks poised to return to his 2012 numbers (4,515 yards/32 touchdowns) with his preseason performances so far. He is 28-for-37 for 314 yards, two touchdowns and no picks this month. With a poor defense and a shaky ground attack, Atlanta could be in a lot of shootouts and Ryan will be throwing a lot this season.
Steven Jackson, RB8/20/2014 4:29:00 PM
Description: Atlanta coach Mike Smith fully expects running back Steven Jackson (left hamstring) to be ready for Week 1, according to D. Orlando Ledbetter.
Insight: Even if that's true, the injury is a reminder that Jackson isn't getting any younger. The 31-year-old missed four games with a strained right hamstring last year and rushed for just 3.5 ypc. Rookie Devonta Freeman has a good chance to start at some point this season.
Julio Jones, WR8/19/2014 8:39:00 PM
Description: Falcons receiver Julio Jones (foot) is set to return to a normal practice routine, according to ESPN.com's Vaughn McClure.
Insight: Jones has been practicing every other day as he works his way back from foot surgery. He had 41 catches for 580 yards and two touchdowns in five games last season and has No. 1 overall fantasy upside at his position if he can stay healthy.
Pat McQuistan, OT8/19/2014 2:25:00 PM
Description: The Falcons have brought in Pat McQuistan, formerly of Dallas, Miami, New Orleans, and Arizona.
Insight: The team is in need of offensive line help due to the season-ending injury to Sam Baker (torn patellar tendon). The Falcons need to protect Matt Ryan better than last season (career high 44 sacks in 2013).
Sam Baker, T8/17/2014 11:59:00 AM
Description: Falcons starting left tackle Sam Baker has a torn patella tendon, according to nfl.com's Ian Rapoport and if so is most likely done for the season.
Insight: Lamar Holmes would likely be the guy to inherit the starting job and that's a drop in talent level which could have a detrimental effect Matt Ryan and the offense.
Roddy White, WR8/9/2014 9:44:00 AM
Description: Falcons receiver Roddy White appeared healthy is the short time he was on the field Friday night.
Insight: White was never 100 percent last season. He only played in the first quarter and caught four balls for 27 yards. He and Julio Jones make up one of the league's top tandems.
Levine Toilolo, TE8/9/2014 9:42:00 AM
Description: The replacement for Hall of Fame tight end Tony Gonzalez in the Falcons starting lineup is Levine Toilolo, though fantasy owners shouldn't expect much from him offensively.
Insight: While Gonzalez averaged 82 receptions and 837 yards a season during his five-year stay in Atlanta, Toilolo is a big slow target that won't have much fantasy value. He caught two of three targets for 19 yards in Friday's preseason opener.
Devonta Freeman, RB8/8/2014 10:46:00 PM
Description: Falcons rookie running back Devonta Freeman had 107 yards from scrimmage on 11 touches (10 carries) in the preseason opener Friday against the Dolphins.
Insight: Freeman, a fourth-round pick, ran as the No. 3 back on the depth chart so he did his damage against second- and third-teamers, but it's still a strong first impression for him. He should end up as the direct backup to Steven Jackson, though he won't have fantasy value unless Jackson goes down because Jacquizz Rodgers is still around for passing downs.
Devonta Freeman, RB8/7/2014 2:35:00 PM
Description: Word from Falcons' OC Dirk Koetter is that rookie running back Devonta Freeman is just "OK" in pass protection, according to Michael Cunningham of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Insight: The fastest way to finding a seat on the bench is to get your quarterback killed. Particularly when its a franchise QB like Matt Ryan. Until we hear he's blocking and picking up blitzes he's not going to see playing time and for fantasy owners that's the key to his fantasy value. We know he can run.
Julio Jones, WR8/5/2014 3:43:00 PM
Description: Falcons receiver Julio Jones (foot) has been practicing every other day by design, according to a Vaughn McClure report.
Insight: Jones has said he feels 100 percent and the Falcons are trying to keep him that way until the season begins. Prior to the injury, Jones was finally reaching his enormous potential and had accumulated 580 yards and two touchdowns on 41 catches, a pace of 131 receptions and 1,856 yards per 16 games.
Steven Jackson, RB7/29/2014 6:22:00 PM
Description: Atlanta running back Steven Jackson suffered a left hamstring injury Monday, according to Vaughn McClure of ESPN.com.
Insight: It isn't the same hamstring that Jackson strained last season. Falcons coach Mike Smith said he's fully confident Jackson will be ready for Week 1, but the injury is a reminder that Jackson isn't getting any younger. The 31-year-old missed four games last year and rushed for just 3.5 ypc. Rookie Devonta Freeman has a good chance to start at some point this season.
Roddy White, WR7/24/2014 11:46:00 AM
Description: The Falcons have signed receiver Roddy White to a three-year extension, according to Adam Schefter.
Insight: White came on strong in December after an injury-plagued first three months. The 32-year-old is eighth among active players in career receiving yards with 9,436 in nine seasons in the league. He and Julio Jones make up one of the league's top tandems.
