Description: Don't be surprised if IF Jayson Nix finds his way into the starting lineup against Oakland left-hander Jon Lester.
Insight: The utility infielder has done nothing all season, batting just 120 between Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and the Royals, but he's a career .308 hitter (8-for-26) with three home runs in their matchups.

Description: Athletics shortstop Jed Lowrie had a two-run single in the season finale against the Rangers.
Insight: Lowrie provided some much needed insurance with his two RBI in the ninth inning to extend the Athletics lead to 4-0. Overall however, Lowrie had a down season compared to his numbers last year. He hit .249/.321/.355 with six home runs and 50 RBI this season.

Description: Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter singled in his last at-bat at the major league level.
Insight: Jeter went 1-for-2 before leaving in the third inning on Sunday. He lined out to shortstop Jemile Weeks in his first at-bat and then hit an infield single in his second plate appearance. Manager Joe Girardi replaced Jeter after the infield single. Jeter finishes sixth all-time with 3,465 hits. Jeter will cap off his Hall of Fame career batting second one more time for the pinstripes. He registered an infield single before exiting the game on Saturday in a blow out. Hopefully, Jeter plays the entire game on Sunday.

Description: Nationals shortstop Ian Desmond belts 24th homer of year.
Insight: It was the only run Washington needed, as Jordan Zimmerman tossed a no-hitter. Desmond finishes the year with a .255/.313/.430 line with 91 RBI. Consider him a top shortstop prospect heading into the 2015 fantasy season.

Description: Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter will DH in his final major league game on Sunday.
Insight: Jeter will cap off his Hall of Fame career batting second one more time for the pinstripes. He registered an infield single before exiting the game on Saturday in a blow out. Hopefully, Jeter plays the entire game on Sunday.

Insight: Escobar ison a seven-game hitting streak, but faces a tough assignment. He's hitting .283, with three homers and 51 RBI, to go along with his 31 stolen bases.

Description: Indians shortstop Jose Ramirez hit a solo home run that proved to be the difference as Cleveland defeated Tampa Bay, 1-0, on Friday.
Insight: Ramirez's homer came in the second at-bat of the bottom of the first and proved to be the only run of the game. That was all Corey Kluber would need as he threw eight shut out innings. Ramirez is batting .249 with two home runs and 16 RBI in 229 at-bats this season.

Description: Padres shortstop Everth Cabrera will not play again this season according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.
Insight: The Padres placed Cabrera on the disabled list Aug. 12 due to a left hamstring strain. Police then arrested Cabrera on Sept. 3 for driving under the influence of marijuana. Cabrera finished with .232/.272/.300 and 18 stolen bases in 2014.

Description: White Sox shortstop Alexei Ramirez is an incredible 23-for-55 (.418) against Royals starter James Shields.
Insight: Ramirez has two home runs, double and triple against Shields as well. The shortstop has been struggling a bit this month, hitting .218, but he should take advantage of this matchup.

Insight: Lowrie went 2-for-4 and scored a run in the loss against the Angels on Wednesday. Lowrie is batting .245 with 37 extra-base hits, 46 RBI and 58 runs this year.
J.J. Hardy, SS, BAL9/25/2014 10:13:00 AM
Description: Orioles shortstop J.J. Hardy is just 5-for-28 (.179) in his career against Yankees starter Hiroki Kuroda.
Insight: Hardy's power numbers are down this season, but he is still very productive, batting .272 with 27 doubles and 52 RBI. Just avoid this matchup on Thursday.

Insight: He was 2-for-4 with three RBI, and a run scored. It's a nice outing for Bogaerts, as he has struggleed with a .239/.298/.363 line this season. He will look to bounce back in 2015.

Description: White Sox shortstop Alexei Ramirez went 2-for-4 with a run scored in the loss to the Tigers on Tuesday.
Insight: Ramirez scored along with Adam Eaton to cut the Tiger lead to 3-2 in the top of the ninth. Marcus Semien then singled to score the tying run, which chased Detroit starter David Price. The Tigers, however, were still able to win the game. Ramirez is hitting .276 with 15 home runs and 72 RBI this season.

Insight: Escobar slid awkwardly into home plate. He is being called day-to-day.

Insight: Bogaerts left Sunday's game against the Orioles with a stiff neck and is still not feeling well enough to play. Jemile Weeks will play shortstop on Tuesday.

Insight: Lowrie took a pitch in the foot on Sunday and eventually left the game. He is going to try and give it a go on Monday and will bat sixth against C.J. Wilson.

Insight: Gregorius has hit safely in his last three games, but is batting just .211 for the year with a .632 OPS. he might be worth a one-day flier.

Description: Cubs third baseman Luis Valbuena is a lifetime .400 (8-for-20) hitter against Cardinals ace Adam Wainwright.
Insight: The third baseman has put together his best season with 16 home runs and 51 RBI and a .781 OPS. However, he's just keeping the spot warm for Cubs prospect Kris Bryant (.325, 43 HR, 110 RBI at Double-A and Triple-A).

Description: Pirates shortstop Jordy Mercer is just 1-for-10 in his lifetime against Brewers starter Wily Peralta.
Insight: Mercer missed a few games early in the week due to a tight back. Since his return, he is 1-for-9 with a double. If possible, avoid Mercer on Sunday.

Description: Phillies shortstop Jimmy Rollins has been ruled out on Sunday due to a hamstring injury according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.
Insight: Rollins has been hoping to play in his hometown of Oakland this weekend, but he tested his left hamstring on Saturday and is not yet feeling well enough to return to action. It is unclear if Rollins will return at all this season, so do not count on him the last week.

Insight: Cozart has not been great at the plate this season, with a .227 average. However, he continues to play solid defense, and will look to improve offensively, next year.

Insight: After going nearly a month in between multi-hit games, Jeter recorded his second straight game with two hits. He nearly hit his second home run in as many days but instead flew out to the warning track. Jeter may be inspired by his final homestand because he was in a major slump prior to Thursday. He is hitting .252 with 20 extra-base hits and 41 RBI this year.

Insight: Reyes took advantage of a friendly matchup as he came into the game a .462 hitter against Yankees starter Hiroki Kuroda. Reyes's three hits weren't enough, however, as New York won, 5-3. Reyes is 5-for-9 so far in the series against New York.

Insight: The 2011 NL batting champion hasn't cracked the .300 mark in the last two seasons and is hitting .285 this year so likely to make it three in a row. Still, he's batting .400 over the past six games and has a favorable matchup so start him.

Insight: Peralta went 1-for-3 in the victory over the Brewers on Wednesday and hit a home run last weekend for his 21st of the season. The shortstop has followed up last year's PED suspension embarrassment with a respectable .262/.337/.451 with 70 RBI and 58 runs to go with his 21 homers.

Insight: Valbuena has three doubles and a walk as his OPS against Greinke is .977. The third baseman has 16 home runs and 49 RBI while hitting .248 this year.

Insight: He was able to pinch-hit on Tuesday, and has a solid chance to be ready for the weekend series in Chicago. A strained right elbow is what is causing Ramirez to sit. Miguel Rojas draws the start today against Colorado, but check back in the coming days for more Hanley alerts.

Insight: Desmond homered in the sixth, scoring Jayson Werth and broke a scoreless tie. Desmond then doubled in the ninth and scored on a wild pitch later in the inning. The shortstop leads the NL Champions with 88 RBI and has 23 home runs while batting .252.

Insight: Flores might be in the midst of the best stretch in his career as he is 8-for-15 with three home runs in his last four games. Flores has multiple hits in each of his last three games, going 7-for-11 with two doubles, two home runs, a triple and eight RBI. Incredible considering he only has six home runs and 28 RBI on the year.
