Description: Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter singled in his last at-bat at the major league level.
Insight: Jeter went 1-for-2 before leaving in the third inning on Sunday. He lined out to shortstop Jemile Weeks in his first at-bat and then hit an infield single in his second plate appearance. Manager Joe Girardi replaced Jeter after the infield single. Jeter finishes sixth all-time with 3,465 hits.

Insight: The Padres placed Cabrera on the disabled list Aug. 12 due to a left hamstring strain. Police then arrested Cabrera on Sept. 3 for driving under the influence of marijuana. Cabrera finished with .232/.272/.300 and 18 stolen bases in 2014.
Description: White Sox shortstop Alexei Ramirez went 2-for-4 with a run scored in the loss to the Tigers on Tuesday.
Insight: Ramirez scored along with Adam Eaton to cut the Tiger lead to 3-2 in the top of the ninth. Marcus Semien then singled to score the tying run, which chased Detroit starter David Price. The Tigers, however, were still able to win the game. Ramirez is hitting .276 with 15 home runs and 72 RBI this season.

Insight: Reyes took advantage of a friendly matchup as he came into the game a .462 hitter against Yankees starter Hiroki Kuroda. Reyes's three hits weren't enough, however, as New York won, 5-3. Reyes is 5-for-9 so far in the series against New York.
Description: Blue Jays shortstop Jose Reyes is a career 12-for-26 (.462) with six extra-base hits versus Yankees hurler Hiroki Kuroda.
Insight: The 2011 NL batting champion hasn't cracked the .300 mark in the last two seasons and is hitting .285 this year so likely to make it three in a row. Still, he's batting .400 over the past six games and has a favorable matchup so start him.
Description: Rangers shortstop Elvis Andrus went 2-for-5 with a RBI against the Athletics on Thursday.
Insight: Despite the poor matchup, Andrus came into the day hitting .167 against Athletics pitcher Sonny Gray, the shortstop had two singles and drove in center fielder Leonys Martin in the sixth. Andrus is batting .264 with two home runs and 38 RBI this year.
Description: Cardinals shortstop Jhonny Peralta is a career 8-for-22 with a double and home run against Brewers starter Kyle Lohse.
Insight: Peralta went 1-for-3 in the victory over the Brewers on Wednesday and hit a home run last weekend for his 21st of the season. The shortstop has followed up last year's PED suspension embarrassment with a respectable .262/.337/.451 with 70 RBI and 58 runs to go with his 21 homers.

Insight: Andrus went 2-for-5 on Wednesday against the A's and is 5-for-17 (.294) in his last three games, but overall, the shortstop has been disappointing this year. He is hitting .263 with 70 runs and 26 stolen bases. The average and runs are career lows.
Description: Dodgers shortstop Hanley Ramirez (elbow) will miss a second straight start on Wednesday.
Insight: He was able to pinch-hit on Tuesday, and has a solid chance to be ready for the weekend series in Chicago. A strained right elbow is what is causing Ramirez to sit. Miguel Rojas draws the start today against Colorado, but check back in the coming days for more Hanley alerts.

Insight: Desmond homered in the sixth, scoring Jayson Werth and broke a scoreless tie. Desmond then doubled in the ninth and scored on a wild pitch later in the inning. The shortstop leads the NL Champions with 88 RBI and has 23 home runs while batting .252.
Description: Mets shortstop Wilmer Flores had a career night, batting 3-for-4 with a double, two home runs and six RBI to lead the Mets past the Marlins on Tuesday, 9-1,
Insight: Flores might be in the midst of the best stretch in his career as he is 8-for-15 with three home runs in his last four games. Flores has multiple hits in each of his last three games, going 7-for-11 with two doubles, two home runs, a triple and eight RBI. Incredible considering he only has six home runs and 28 RBI on the year.
