Description: Baltimore first baseman Chris Davis went 1-for-3 with a solo homer Wednesday against Tampa Bay.

Description: Nationals first baseman Adam LaRoche is back in the starting lineup for Wednesday night's game against the Phillies.
Insight: LaRoche is, however, a lifetime .158 hitter against Philadelphia starter Kyle Kendrick. LaRoche sat out Tuesday's game due to back soreness.
Anthony Rizzo, 1B, CHC8/27/2014 4:36:00 PM
Description: Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo is still out of the starting lineup on Wednesday against the Reds due to lower back tightness.
Insight: Manager Rick Renteria downplayed the injury after Tuesday's game. Chris Valaika replaced Rizzo on Tuesday and will start at first base on Wednesday. Rizzo hit his 30th home run of the season against the Reds before leaving Tuesday's game.
Ike Davis, 1B, PIT8/27/2014 4:09:00 PM
Description: Pirates first baseman Ike Davis hit a massive home run to right-center field for the second day in a row.
Insight: With Pedro Alvarez banged up, Davis got the start at first base and hit a towering home run off a speaker in right-center field at PNC Park. Davis finished the day 1-for-3. The sudden burst of power is very encouraging for the 27-year-old that has been struggling this year. Perhaps, he will have a big September though now manager Clint Hurdle has the difficulty of find both the streaking Alvarez and Davis at-bats (when both are healthy).
Mike Napoli, 1B, BOS8/27/2014 3:46:00 PM
Description: Boston first baseman Mike Napoli went 2-for-5 with a mammoth three-run homer Tuesday against the Blue Jays after going 1-for-20 in his previous five.
Insight: Despite hitting .206 with 25 strikeouts in 68 at-bats this month, Napoli has also blasted four homers, driven in 14 runs and recorded a .779 OPS. He's been dealing with back spasms lately but has been in the lineup for five straight games, including Wednesday's.
Mark Teixeira, 1B, NYYCold8/27/2014 12:41:00 PM
Description: Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira is a lifetime .204 hitter (11-for-54) against Tigers pitcher David Price. He does, however, hit for some power against Price, as Teixeira has three home runs and seven RBI.
Insight: Teixeira returned to the lineup on Tuesday and went 0-for-4. He has 20 home runs in 347 at-bats, but is hitting .233.

Insight: Gonzalez continued his hot August with a single, RBI and two runs on Tuesday. This month, he is batting .325 with 19 RBI and a .892 OPS. He is also 6-for-9 with two doubles, a home run and seven RBI in the last three games. With those numbers, it might be hard to sit him, but be aware of his lack of success against Miley.
Freddie Freeman, 1B, ATL8/27/2014 11:55:00 AM
Description: Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman is a career .545 hitter (6-for-11) with a home run and five RBI against Mets starter Zack Wheeler.
Insight: Freeman has struggled the last week, batting .190 with just one extra-base hit. He did however, belt a double on Tuesday, so perhaps Freeman will come out of the mini slump versus Wheeler. Freeman is hitting .292 with 17 home runs and 68 RBI this year.
Pedro Alvarez, 1B, PIT8/27/2014 11:50:00 AM
Description: Pirates first baseman Pedro Alvarez is not in the starting lineup for Wednesday's afternoon game against the Cardinals.
Insight: Alvarez sprained his left foot in Tuesday's game and was seen wearing a walking boot in the clubhouse Wednesday morning. He is listed as day-to-day. Alvarez has hit three home runs in the last four games, but Ike Davis, who slugged the game-winning home run on Tuesday, will take over in the meantime.
Anthony Rizzo, 1B, CHC8/26/2014 10:47:00 PM
Description: Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo went 1-for-4 with a solo homer Tuesday at Cincinnati, but he left with lower back tightness.

Pedro Alvarez, 1B, PIT8/26/2014 10:11:00 PM
Description: Pirates first baseman Pedro Alvarez left Tuesday's game due to left foot discomfort, according to Rob Biertempfel of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.
Insight: He went 0-for-3 before being replaced by Gaby Sanchez. Alvarez was 4-for-10 with three homers and five RBI in his previous three games.
Adam LaRoche, 1B, WAS8/26/2014 5:31:00 PM
Description: Nationals first baseman Adam LaRoche was scratched from the lineup Tuesday due to back soreness, according to Adam Kilgore of the Washington Post.
Insight: Manager Matt Williams expects to have him back Wednesday. LaRoche has cooled off lately, going 4-for-24 (.167) in his last seven games.
Mark Teixeira, 1B, NYYCold8/26/2014 5:29:00 PM
Description: Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira is in the lineup Tuesday against the Tigers.
Insight: Teixeira sat out Monday due to hamstring tightness. He has 20 home runs in 343 at-bats this season but has just nine doubles and is batting .233.

Ryan Howard, 1B, PHI8/26/2014 4:16:00 PM
Description: Phillies first baseman Ryan Howard is not in Tuesday's starting lineup.
Insight: Howard simply has no clue against Washington left-hander Gio Gonzalez. He's hitless in 11 at-bats with six strikeouts. Howard has somehow managed to continue to knock in runs this season (80), despite a .222 batting average and .688 OPS.
Adrian Gonzalez, 1B, LOSHot8/26/2014 11:10:00 AM
Description: Los Angeles first baseman Adrian Gonzalez is a lifetime .458 hitter against Arizona starter Trevor Cahill, including a pair of long balls and seven RBI.
Insight: Gonzalez is putting together his best month since April, batting .325 with an .897 OPS. For the season he's hitting .275 with 18 homers, 89 RBI and a .795 OPS. Start him in this favorable matchup.
Anthony Rizzo, 1B, CHC8/26/2014 10:59:00 AM
Description: Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo is having a great season, but his Tuesday matchup with Reds right-hander Johnny Cueto should be avoided.
Insight: Rizzo has a career-high 29 home runs and 70 RBI, but he's 1-for-15 (.067) against Cueto.
Ryan Howard, 1B, PHI8/26/2014 10:33:00 AM
Description: Phillies first baseman Ryan Howard should be avoided Tuesday in an ugly matchup.
Insight: Howard simply has no clue against Washington left-hander Gio Gonzalez. He's hitless in 11 at-bats with six strikeouts. Howard has somehow managed to continue to knock in runs this season (80), despite a .222 batting average and .688 OPS.
Miguel Cabrera, 1B, DET8/26/2014 9:50:00 AM
Description: Tigers first baseman Miguel Cabrera (right ankle) was not in Sunday's starting lineup, but is probable for Tuesday's game against the NY Yankees.
Insight: We'd call this an "off" year for the two-time MVP, batting .308 with 17 home runs, 88 RBI and an .876 OPS this season, but most mortals would love to be able to produce at this level.
Pedro Alvarez, 1B, PIT8/25/2014 10:31:00 PM
Description: Pirates first baseman Pedro Alvarez has gone 4-for-10 with three homers, five RBI and two steals in his last three games.
Insight: Perhaps now that he's at first base he'll be able to focus entirely on hitting rather than worrying about making throws across the diamond. Alvarez made 24 throwing errors at third base this season.
Chris Davis, 1B, BAL8/25/2014 10:17:00 PM
Description: Baltimore first baseman Chris Davis has gone 19-for-114 (.167) with seven homers, 13 RBI and 49 strikeouts in 33 games since the All-Star break.
Insight: Davis was four for his last 37 (.108) before going 1-for-3 with a solo homer Monday. He's hitting .190 with 22 homers, 61 RBI, 52 runs and a .683 OPS on the year and at this point fantasy owners need to consider dropping him.
Eric Hosmer, 1B, KAN8/25/2014 8:43:00 PM
Description: Royals first baseman Eric Hosmer (hand) has been cleared to swing a bat, according to Andy McCullough of the Kansas City Star.
Insight: Hosmer, who is out with a fractured hand, hopes to begin a rehab assignment in a week. The 24-year-old is hitting .267 with just six homers, 46 RBI, 45 runs and a .689 OPS in 409 at-bats this season, not good enough for a fantasy first baseman.
Mark Teixeira, 1B, NYYCold8/25/2014 5:17:00 PM
Description: Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira is not in the lineup Monday against the Royals.
Insight: He admitted his left hamstring has been a little tight, according to Meredith Marakovits of the YES Network. His .125 (6-for-48) career average against Royals starter James Shields also could have something to do with his absence.
Mark Teixeira, 1B, NYYCold8/25/2014 9:37:00 AM
Description: Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira is a career 6-for-48 (.125) against Royals starter James Shields.
Insight: Teixeira was just 1-for-9 in the three game series with the White Sox so it's probably best just to avoid him.
Adrian Gonzalez, 1B, LOSHot8/24/2014 7:58:00 PM
Description: Los Angeles first baseman Adrian Gonzalez has gone 43-for-125 (.344) with 14 doubles, four homers and 29 RBI since the All-Star break.
Insight: Gonzalez, who went 3-for-3 with two doubles Sunday against the Mets, is now hitting .275 with 18 homers, 89 RBI and a .795 OPS on the year. He was batting .250 with a .741 OPS at the break.
Justin Morneau, 1B, COL8/24/2014 2:18:00 PM

Insight: It appears to be a routine day off after he went 0-for-6 Saturday night. He's batting .314 with 14 HR and 67 RBI.
Miguel Cabrera, 1B, DET8/24/2014 1:28:00 PM
Description: Tigers first baseman Miguel Cabrera is not in Sunday's starting lineup
Insight: he's been dealing with a sore ankle and Saturday's doubleheader may have been too much. We'd call this an "off" year for the two-time MVP, batting .308 with 17 home runs, 88 RBI and an .876 OPS this season.
Joe Mauer, 1B, MINHot8/23/2014 4:44:00 PM
Description: Minnesota first baseman Joe Mauer went 2-for-3 with a double, three RBI, two walks and two runs in Game 1 of Saturday's doubleheader against Detroit.
Insight: Mauer has gone 15-for-42 (.357) with four doubles, two homers, 10 RBI and 10 walks since he returned from an oblique strain on Aug. 11. His average is up to .281, the highest it's been since May 27.
Joe Mauer, 1B, MINHot8/23/2014 11:22:00 AM
Description: Minnesota first baseman Joe Mauer has batted .333 with three doubles, two homers, seven RBI, eight walks and five runs in 11 games since he returned from the disabled list.
Insight: Mauer has his average up to .278 and his OPS to .732. He hit .300 or better seven times in the previous 10 seasons and has never batted below .287, but he'll need to bat nearly .360 in the final 35 games to hit .300 this season. He's 23-for-62 (.371) with four doubles, three homers and 12 walks in his career against Tigers starter Justin Verlander, so he could be a solid first base option Saturday.
Garrett Jones, 1B, MIA8/23/2014 11:07:00 AM
Description: Miami first baseman Garrett Jones is 9-for-16 (.563) with two doubles and two homers in his career against Rockies starter Jordan Lyles.
Insight: Those numbers are too good to ignore even though Jones has struggled since the All-Star break. He has a .770 OPS against right-handers this season.
Justin Morneau, 1B, COL8/23/2014 10:10:00 AM
Description: Rockies first baseman Justin Morneau went 2-for-4 with a homer, a walk and two RBI Friday against Miami.
Insight: Due to teammate Troy Tulowitzki's season-ending hip injury, Morneau is now in the lead for the NL batting title with a .319 average. If he wins, it will give Colorado back-to-back batting champions (Michael Cuddyer won it last year).
Jose Abreu, 1B, CWSHot8/22/2014 10:49:00 PM
Description: White Sox first baseman Jose Abreu has homered in two of the last three games.

Freddie Freeman, 1B, ATLHot8/22/2014 10:23:00 AM

Insight: Freeman has been on fire in August, hitting 26-for-69 (.377) with nine extra base hits and nine RBI. The first baseman has a .488 OBP in the month too.
Matt Adams, 1B, STLHot8/22/2014 10:03:00 AM
Description: Cardinals first baseman Matt Adams is a career 5-for-11 (.455) hitter against Phillies starter Kyle Kendrick.
Insight: Adams went through a major cold streak at the beginning of August but has bounced back in a big way. Before his 0-for-3 on Wednesday, he had a seven-game hitting streak, going 12-for-29 (.414) with five RBI during that stretch. There's a good chance he starts another hitting streak on Friday.
Mark Teixeira, 1B, NYY8/22/2014 9:21:00 AM
Description: Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira is a career 8-for-15 (.533) hitter against White Sox starter John Danks.
Insight: Teixeira had a great series against Tampa Bay last weekend but cooled off in two starts versus Houston. He has been hitting .219 since the All-Star break, which has helped contribute to his worst season batting average of his career. Hopefully, he can get on track against Danks.
Mike Napoli, 1B, BOS8/21/2014 4:00:00 PM
Description: Boston first baseman Mike Napoli was out of the lineup Wednesday due to back spasms and will take another day off Thursday.
Insight: After a quick start in April (.305, 5 HR, 15 RBI) Napoli has wilted with the summer heat, batting just .257 in July and .231 in August. Without catcher eligibility, his value is minimal.
Jose Abreu, 1B, CWS8/21/2014 10:02:00 AM
Description: White Sox first baseman Jose Abreu is probable for Friday's game against the NY Yankees while dealing with a sore left ankle
Insight: Abreu was the DH on Wednesday with Paul Konerko at first base. You don't need to run much when you hit the ball over the fence and Abreu has 32 homers, 90 RBI, a .303 average and a .956 OPS this season.
Mike Napoli, 1B, BOS8/21/2014 9:52:00 AM
Description: Boston first baseman Mike Napoli was out of the lineup Wednesday due to back spasms and is questionable for Thursday's game against the LA Angels.
Insight: After a quick start in April (.305, 5 HR, 15 RBI) Napoli has wilted with the summer heat, batting just .257 in July and .231 in August. Without catcher eligibility, his value is minimal.
Anthony Rizzo, 1B, CHC8/21/2014 9:31:00 AM
Description: The successful appeal by the San Francisco Giants isn't a bad thing for fantasy owners of players on both squads. It means more at-bats.
Insight: More is better. Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo homered in the first five innings and should get two more at-bats. With 29 home runs and 69 RBI, he's on his way to the best season of his career.

Mike Napoli, 1B, BOS8/20/2014 4:25:00 PM
Description: Boston first baseman Mike Napoli is out of the lineup Wednesday due to back spasms, according to Scott Lauber of the Boston Herald.
Insight: Napoli has never had 500 at-bats in a season and he won't get there this year. He's hitting .266 with 15 homers, 45 RBI and an .831 OPS, numbers that would be much more useful if he was still eligible at catcher.
Jose Abreu, 1B, CWS 8/19/2014 11:17:00 PM
Description: White Sox first baseman Jose Abreu hit his first home run this month Tuesday against Baltimore.
Insight: Abreu hit at least five homers in every month this season, including May when he missed two weeks with an ankle injury. He's going to need to go on quite a tear to hit five in August. He still has 32 homers, 90 RBI, a .303 average and a .956 OPS this season.
Justin Morneau, 1B, COL8/19/2014 4:56:00 PM
Description: Rockies first baseman Justin Morneau returns to the starting lineup on Tuesday against the Royals.
Insight: Morneau missed a few games due to a lingering neck injury. Before the injury, Morneau had a 10-game hitting streak, which he will take into Tuesday's game. The first baseman is having a great season, currently leading the National League with a .323 batting average.

Insight: Bour has spent 21 games with the Marlins, in which he had 27 at-bats. Miami first baseman Garrett Jones has one year left on his contract, so we will have to see what happens if Jones can play at the big league level in 2015. Bour played well at Triple-A New Orleans, batting .330 with nine homers, 36 RBI and a .969 OPS. There is no pressure on the 26-year old who could be the long-term answer at 1B.

Description: Brewers first baseman Mark Reynolds is hitless with eight strikeouts in his career against Blue Jays pitcher J.A. Happ.

Justin Morneau, 1B, COL8/18/2014 1:53:00 PM
Description: Rockies first baseman Justin Morneau missed both games of Colorado's double header against Cincinnati on Sunday. The Rockies also scratched Morneau from Saturday's lineup due to a sore neck.
Insight: The first baseman went on the 15-day disabled list in July with a neck strain. Morneau could miss more time as the neck injury continues to linger. The 33-year-old is having a bounce back season, hitting .323 with 13 home runs and 65 RBI.
Joe Mauer, 1B, MINHot8/18/2014 10:21:00 AM
Description: Minnesota first baseman Joe Mauer is a career .417 hitter (10-for-24) versus Royals starter Jason Vargas.
Insight: Mauer has hit safely in five of six games, including a pair of home runs since he returned from the DL to raise his average to .275. He still has more to go if he's to reach his career average of .320, but this favorable matchup could help.
Edwin Encarnacion, 1B, TOR8/17/2014 7:02:00 PM
Description: Toronto first baseman Edwin Encarnacion hit his first home run since returning from the disabled list.
Insight: Encarnacion (.274, 27 HR, 72 RBI) hits them in bunches so don't be surprised if this is the start of something big. He hit just two homers in April, then blasted 16 in May and seven in June.
Justin Morneau, 1B, COL8/17/2014 11:45:00 AM
Description: Rockies first baseman Justin Morneau has a career .625 batting average versus Reds Game 2 pitcher Dylan Axelrod. Update - Morneau will not start in Game 1.
Insight: Morneau has been solid this season, batting .323 with 13 HR and 65 RBI. The return of Michael Cuddyer to the lineup should help both Morneau and Nolan Arenado.

Description: Minnesota first baseman Joe Mauer is a career .333 hitter (8-for-24) with a pair of home runs versus Royals starter Jeremy Guthrie.
Insight: Mauer has hit safely in four of five games since he returned from the DL to raise his average to .273, but he still has more to go if he's to reach his career average of .320.
Mike Napoli, 1B, BOS8/17/2014 11:04:00 AM
Description: Boston first baseman Mike Napoli is not in Sunday's starting lineup versus Houston and right-hander Collin McHugh.

Miguel Cabrera, 1B, DET8/17/2014 10:21:00 AM
Description: Tigers first baseman Miguel Cabrera is a career .167 hitter (2-for-12) versus Seattle right-hander Chris Young.
Insight: We only know a few pitchers who can consistently get Cabrera out and Young is one of them. Its hard to imagine, but we'd call this an "off" year for the two-time MVP, batting .311 with 17 home runs, 86 RBI and an .887 OPS this season.
Adam LaRoche, 1B, WASHot8/16/2014 9:59:00 PM

Description: Phillies first baseman Ryan Howard entered Saturday's game 22-for-67 with three doubles, seven homers, 17 RBI and 12 walks against Giants starter Tim Hudson, and he went 3-for-5 with a double and three RBI.
Insight: Howard didn't disappoint fantasy owners who started him against Hudson. The first baseman is hitting .221 with 18 homers, 77 RBI, 52 runs and a .676 OPS this season, so the only time you can use him is when he has an extremely favorable matchup like the one he had Saturday.
Justin Morneau, 1B, COLHot8/16/2014 7:01:00 PM
Description: Rockies first baseman Justin Morneau was scratched from Saturday's lineup with a stiff neck, according to Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post.
Insight: He missed some time last month with the injury. The returning Michael Cuddyer will start at first base in Morneau's place.
Justin Morneau, 1B, COLHot8/16/2014 12:27:00 PM
