Mark Trumbo, LF9/19/2014 2:24:00 PM
Description: Arizona outfielder Mark Trumbo is dealing with a back issue, but if he's in Friday's starting lineup he'll be a solid fantasy option.
Insight: Trumbo is 4-for-9 with three homers and six RBI against Colorado starter Jordan Lyles. It's been a completely forgettable season for Trumo who spent much of the time on the disabled list and is batting .235 with nine home runs and 49 RBI.
Miguel Montero, C9/17/2014 2:08:00 PM
Description: Diamondbacks catcher Miguel Montero is not in the lineup Wednesday afternoon.
Insight: With a day game after a night game, plus lefty Madison Bumgarner on the mound, it is a perfect opportunity to give Montero a day off.
Aaron Hill, 2B9/15/2014 10:01:00 AM
Description: Diamondbacks second baseman Aaron Hill is a career .464 hitter (13-for-28) against Giants starter Ryan Vogelsong,
Insight: Hill simply isn't the guy he's been the past three seasons with an OPS 150 points below his production level over that span, but he's in a favorable situation Monday against Vogelsong.
Mark Trumbo, LFHot9/14/2014 10:12:00 AM
Description: Arizona outfielder Mark Trumbo went 3-for-5 with three RBI and two runs as the Diamondbacks defeated the Padres, 10-4, on Saturday.

Miguel Montero, C9/11/2014 1:22:00 PM
Description: Diamondbacks catcher Miguel Montero is not in the lineup on Thursday afternoon against the Giants.
Insight: It appears to be just a normal day of rest for the catcher. Montero is batting .250 with 13 home runs and 71 RBI this season.
Aaron Hill, 2B9/10/2014 10:18:00 AM
Description: Diamondbacks second baseman Aaron Hill is a career .520 hitter (13-for-25) against Giants starter Ryan Vogelsong,

Chase Anderson, RP9/7/2014 9:26:00 AM
Description: Diamondbacks starter Chase Anderson gave up two runs on four hits in six innings on Saturday and ended with a no-decision against the Dodgers.
Insight: Anderson also struck out six batters and walked none. Anderson has pitched very well in his rookie season, posting a 8-6 record with a 3.71 ERA with 95 strikeouts in 104 1/3 innings. He is someone to keep an eye on going forward, especially into next year's draft.
Brad Ziegler, RP9/5/2014 8:19:00 PM
Description: Diamondbacks relief pitcher Brad Ziegler told azcentral sports that he will not return this season.
Insight: Ziegler had 29 holds and one save in 68 appearances this year before suffering a knee injury. He will likely need surgery but should be ready for spring training.

Description: Arizona outfielder Cody Ross (calf) took live batting practice without any setbacks on Friday and is expected to return to the Diamondbacks on Monday when the rosters expand.
Insight: Ross has not played since straining his calf in the middle of June. Even if he returns next week, he is not expected to play everyday and thus is not a viable fantasy option.
David Peralta, RF8/27/2014 5:58:00 PM
Description: Diamondbacks outfielder David Peralta is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Dodgers.
Insight: With Paul Goldschmidt out for the season, Peralta is currently the biggest threat in Arizona's lineup, but the lefty-swinging outfielder will take a seat to avoid facing Clayton Kershaw.
Patrick Corbin, SP8/27/2014 10:41:00 AM
Description: Arizona manager Kirk Gibson told the Arizona Republic that the organization is going to take a cautious approach with starter Patrick Corbin's return. The 25-year-old may not make his first start next season until June.
Insight: The Diamondbacks have five pitchers, including Corbin, that will return from Tommy John surgery next year, so the club is committed to a slow rehabilitation process for its arms. Corbin had Tommy John surgery on March 25.

Description: Diamondbacks starter Vidal Nuno allowed two runs on two hits in seven and 1/3 innings against the Padres. He also struck out four and walked two.

Miguel Montero, C8/23/2014 10:23:00 AM
Description: Arizona catcher Miguel Montero hit his 13th homer of the season Friday against San Diego.
Insight: Montero has bounced back after hitting .230 with 11 homers and a .662 OPS in 475 plate appearances last year, but he hasn't returned to his 2011-12 level of production (averaged 140 games, .284, 16 HR, 87 RBI, .825 OPS per season). He's hitting .260 with a .755 OPS in 2014.
Miguel Montero, C8/21/2014 1:08:00 PM

Vidal Nuno, SP8/18/2014 10:28:00 PM
Description: Diamondbacks starter Vidal Nuno allowed two runs on five hits and struck out seven in seven innings Monday at Washington.
Insight: The move to the NL has been good for Nuno even though he hasn't won a game in eight starts with Arizona. He's recorded a 3.72 ERA, a 1.11 WHIP and 38 Ks in 46 innings since the Yankees traded him to the D-Backs for Brandon McCarthy.
Aaron Hill, 2B8/15/2014 10:30:00 PM
Description: Diamondbacks second baseman Aaron Hill went 1-for-4 with his 10th homer of the season and two RBI Friday night.
Insight: Hill has batted .189 in August and .247 on the season. He looks nothing like the player he was in 2012, when he had a .302 average, 26 homers, 85 RBI, 93 runs and an .882 OPS, or even last year (.291, 11 HR in 87 games).
Trevor Cahill, SPHot8/15/2014 10:25:00 PM
Description: Diamondbacks starter Trevor Cahill has thrown four straight quality starts.
Insight: Cahill held the Marlins to two runs on six hits and had a 3/3 K/BB in 6 2/3 innings Friday night to win his third game of the year. He hasn't given up more than three earned runs in any of his six starts since he returned from the minors.
Miguel Montero, C8/15/2014 5:57:00 PM
Description: Arizona catcher Miguel Montero is out of the starting lineup Friday night.

Description: Diamondbacks outfielder David Peralta went 0-for-10 in Wednesday's doubleheader.
Insight: The bloom is off the rose as his batting average has fallen from .321 to .299 in two days. He was a career .347 hitter in six minor league seasons so he could keep it around .300.
Chase Anderson, RPHot8/14/2014 11:40:00 AM
Description: Diamondbacks starter Chase Anderson has yielded two runs or less in each of his last five starts heading into Thursday's matchup with Miami.
Insight: Anderson is one of the few Arizona pitchers with good numbers this season having gone 7-4 with a 3.06 ERA and 1.26 WHIP. In his last five starts he's posted a 1.80 ERA and 1.120 WHIP, including 30 Ks in 31 IP.
Mark Trumbo, LFHot8/14/2014 11:12:00 AM
Description: Arizona outfielder Mark Trumbo admittedly hasn't seem much of Miami starter Brad Penny, but he's been very successful when he has.
Insight: Trumbo has a triple and two home runs in just five at-bats against Penny. The slugger is in the midst of an eight-game hitting streak, batting .343 over the span.

He'll likely need another week before he's ready to return to the lineup.
Chris Owings, SS8/11/2014 9:48:00 AM
Description: Arizona shortstop Chris Owings (shoulder injury) was in the batting cage over the weekend and fely fine afterwards.
Insight: The shortstop batted .317 with 11 extra-base hits (3 HR), 12 RBI, nine runs and one steal in June and .277 with a .771 OPS for the season. He's still about two weeks away from returning as long as there are no setbacks. Didi Gregorius filled in nicely in July, but his production has taken a big dip in August (.227, .573 OPS).
Wade Miley, SP8/10/2014 8:02:00 PM
Description: Arizona starter Wade Miley has a career-high 8.29 K/9 this season, but he's allowed 1.27 HR/9.
Insight: Eleven of Miley's 22 home runs allowed this season have come with at least one man on base and he's given up four three-run shots. As a result, he has a 69.8 percent strand rate and a 4.61 ERA while his FIP is 4.18 and his xFIP is 3.41.
Aaron Hill, 2BCold8/8/2014 6:26:00 PM
Description: Diamondbacks second baseman Aaron Hill is not in the lineup Friday.
Insight: Hill has gone 7-for-36 (.194) over his last 10 games and is hitting .251 with nine homers, 51 RBI and a .669 OPS on the year. Fantasy owners can do better at second base.
Paul Goldschmidt, 1B8/2/2014 4:10:00 PM
Description: Arizona first baseman Paul Goldschmidt has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a fractured left hand after being hit in the hand by a pitch from Ernesto Frieri.
Insight: No timetable for Goldschmidt's return has been announced, but it could be a significant amount of time.
Paul Goldschmidt, 1B8/1/2014 4:40:00 PM
Description: Arizona first baseman Paul Goldschmidt is a career .500 hitter (7-for-14) versus Edinson Volquez, but is not in the starting lineup.
Insight: Goldschmidt has struggled this past week, batting .125 (.491 OPS) over the past six games. He's a fantasy stud, but may not be swinging well enough to take advantage of this matchup.
Aaron Hill, 2BCold8/1/2014 10:31:00 AM
Description: Diamondbacks second baseman Aaron Hill is just 1-for-14 (.071) versus Pirates right-hander Edinson Volquez.

Eric Chavez, 3B7/30/2014 4:10:00 PM
Description: Diamondbacks third baseman Eric Chavez has retired, according to cbssports.com.
Insight: Chavez won six straight Gold Gloves and hit 25 or more home runs six times in his first eight seasons, but injuries limited him to 154 games from 2007-10 and he became a part-time player for the Yankes and Diamondbacks after that. He'll finish with a .268 career average, 260 home runs and an .818 OPS.
Wade Miley, SP7/30/2014 3:44:00 PM
Description: Arizona starter Wade Miley won his seventh game of the season Wednesday at Cincinnati after throwing 6 2/3 scoreless innings.
Insight: Miley gave up seven hits, walked four and struck out just one, but he worked out of jams in the first, third, fourth and sixth innings. The 27-year-old lefty has found a way to keep the ball in the park lately, giving up just one homer in his last 44 1/3 innings (0.20 HR/9) after serving up 17 in his first 101 1/3 (1.51 HR/9).

Chris Owings, SS7/29/2014 11:06:00 AM
Description: Arizona shortstop Chris Owings (shoulder injury) was placed on the 15-day disabled list a month ago and there is still no timetable for his return.

Aaron Hill, 2B7/29/2014 11:02:00 AM
Description: Diamondbacks second baseman Aaron Hill didn't start Monday against the Reds, but did enter the game as a pinch hitter.
Insight: He's batted .400 (16-for-40) with six doubles and two homers in his last 11 games and should be back in the starting lineup Tuesday.
A.J. Pollock, CF7/28/2014 9:43:00 PM
Description: Diamondbacks center fielder A.J. Pollock (hand) will take live batting practice against rehabbing pitcher Daniel Hudson on Tuesday and then begin a rehab assignment. SOURCE: mlb.com
Insight: Pollock fractured his right hand when he was hit by a pitch on May 31 and underwent surgery. He was on a tear before the injury, hitting .359 with 13 doubles, four triples, six homers, 14 RBI, 24 runs, eight steals and a 1.061 OPS in his last 39 games.
Aaron Hill, 2BHot7/28/2014 6:49:00 PM
Description: Diamondbacks second baseman Aaron Hill is out of Monday's lineup against the Reds.

Aaron Hill, 2BHot7/27/2014 12:12:00 PM
Description: Diamondbacks second baseman Aaron Hill is out of Sunday's lineup against the Phillies with a bruised right hand.
Insight: Hill was hit by a pitch Saturday. It's unfortunate timing, as he's batted .410 (16-for-39) with six doubles and two homers in his last 10 games and has great numbers against Sunday's starter Roberto Hernandez.
Miguel Montero, C7/26/2014 3:40:00 PM
Description: Arizona catcher Miguel Montero is not in the starting lineup for Saturday's game against Philadelphia.
Insight: It's just a routine day off for the catcher. Tuffy Gosewisch will get the start, but has zero fantasy value.
Aaron Hill, 2BHot7/25/2014 10:50:00 PM
Description: Diamondbacks second baseman Aaron Hill has hit safely in nine straight games.
Insight: Hill has gone 15-for-36 with six doubles, two homers and five RBI during that span. He's reportedly on the trade block, so he's doing a good job to up his value.
Miguel Montero, C7/25/2014 10:26:00 AM
Description: Arizona catcher Miguel Montero is 6-for-12 with a home run versus Phillies starter Kyle Kendrick.
Insight: Montero hasn't homered since June 28, but he's still knocking in runs and has 58 RBI for the season. If the top of the order can get on base Friday, Montero should be able to add to his total.
Martin Prado, 3B7/23/2014 12:22:00 PM
Description: Arizona third baseman Martin Prado owns a .419 career average (13-for-31) with one homer and zero strikeouts against Detroit starter Anibal Sanchez.
Insight: The two were frequent opponents when both played in the NL East. With a .272 average, four homers, 36 RBI, 40 runs and two steals in 375 at-bats, Prado hasn't been a good fantasy option this season, but he's a decent option Wednesday.
Archie Bradley, SP7/20/2014 10:12:00 PM
Description: Diamondbacks pitching prospect Archie Bradley struck out 10, walked one and allowed two runs on three hits over seven innings for Double-A Mobile Saturday night.
Insight: It was Bradley's most dominant effort of the year. The right-hander dealt with an elbow injury earlier this season, but he's allowed five runs on 17 hits in 25 1/3 innings since he returned to the Double-A rotation. He could be ready to jump back to Triple-A, where he had a 5.18 ERA in 24 1/3 innings before the injury.
Josh Collmenter, SP7/20/2014 7:33:00 PM
Description: Diamondbacks starter Josh Collmenter allowed one run on four hits in seven innings Sunday to improve to 8-5.

Paul Goldschmidt, 1BHot7/19/2014 11:35:00 PM
Description: Arizona first baseman Paul Goldschmidt is off to a quick start in the second half with his second home run in as many nights.
Insight: Goldy is having another fine season batting .314 with 18 HR, 65 RBI though he's normally a better first-half hitter (.943 OPS vs. .857 OPS).
Archie Bradley, SP7/16/2014 4:54:00 PM
Description: Diamondbacks pitching prospect Archie Bradley has allowed just three runs on 14 hits in 18 1/3 innings since he returned from an elbow strain, but he's also recorded a 9/13 K/BB in that span.
Insight: Bradley was ranked as one of the top-10 prospects in baseball by several reputable publications prior to this season. Overall he's posted a 3.66 ERA and a 38/26 K/BB in 46 2/3 innings and will need to show improvement with his control before the Diamondbacks call him up. It could be another few weeks or more before we see him in the big leagues.
Aaron Hill, 2B7/12/2014 10:55:00 AM
Description: Diamondbacks second baseman Aaron Hill is a career 11-for-22 (.500) against Giants right-hander Ryan Vogelsong.
Insight: Hill failed to take advantage of his favorable matchup with Tim Lincecum Friday night so fantasy owners should be wary of him being able to jump on the matchup.
Mark Trumbo, LF7/11/2014 6:39:00 PM
Description: Arizona left fielder Mark Trumbo (foot) has been activated from the 15-day disabled list for Friday's game.
Insight: Trumbo proved he was ready by hitting five homers during seven rehab games, so Arizona activated him earlier than expected. He has been sidelined since April 22 due to a stress fracture in his foot. Trumbo was hitting .210 with seven homers and 19 RBI before he got hurt.
Aaron Hill, 2B7/11/2014 10:30:00 AM
Description: Diamondbacks second baseman Aaron Hill is a career 11-for-19 (.579) against Giants right-hander Tim Lincecum.
Insight: Combine Hill and Paul Goldschmidt's numbers against the San Francisco right-hander and we know why he's got a losing record against Arizona (8-10).
Paul Goldschmidt, 1BHot7/11/2014 10:27:00 AM
Description: Arizona first baseman Paul Goldschmidt loves facing Giants starter Tim Lincecum and so do his fantasy owners.
Insight: He's a career .577 hitter with seven homers and 17 RBI in just 26 at-bats. Goldy is having another fine season batting .312 with 16 HR, 61 RBI and a league-leading 193 total bases. He's always a must start when facing Lincecum.
Josh Collmenter, SP7/9/2014 7:11:00 PM
Description: Diamondbacks starter Josh Collmenter held the Marlins to one run on seven hits in seven innings Wednesday.
Insight: Collmenter struck out six batters Wednesday, but he has just 65 Ks in 104 1/3 innings this season. So while he has a solid ERA and WHIP (3.80, 1.27) his fantasy value is extremely limited.
Vidal Nuno, SP7/9/2014 1:33:00 PM
Description: Vidal Nuno allowed just three hits and struck out seven over seven shutout innings Tusday against Miami in his Diamondbacks debut.
Insight: The Yankees dealt him to Arizona for Brandon McCarthy this past weekend. The left-hander should do better in the NL, but Chase Field isn't exactly a good place for a soft-tossing fly-ball pitcher like Nuno.
Addison Reed, RPCold7/9/2014 1:31:00 PM
Description: Diamondbacks closer Addison Reed allowed a two-run homer to Marcell Ozuna in the ninth inning to blow his fifth save of the season Tuesday against the Marlins.
Insight: Reed has given up a whopping nine homers in 36 2/3 innings this season and has a 4.42 ERA. Manager Kirk Gibson has given him two votes of confidence and said earlier this month that the team isn't considering a change, but the D-Backs can't stick with him much longer. Brad Ziegler is likely next in line for saves.
Miguel Montero, C7/8/2014 9:13:00 PM
Description: Arizona catcher Miguel Montero is out of the lineup Tuesday, according to Steve Gilbert of mlb.com.
Insight: This is the second time he's been out of the lineup in the past three games. "He's starting to get tired," manager Kirk Gibson said. "I can tell." Montero has batted .265 with 11 homers, 52 RBI and a .769 OPS this season, up from .230 with 11 homers, 42 RBI and a .662 OPS last year.
Mark Trumbo, LF7/7/2014 9:29:00 PM
Description: Arizona left fielder Mark Trumbo (foot) is expected to return immediately after the All-Star break, according to Steve Gilbert of mlb.com.
Insight: Trumbo has been sidelined since April 22 due to a stress fracture in his foot. He was hitting .210 with seven homers and 19 RBI before he got hurt.
Bronson Arroyo, SP7/7/2014 9:26:00 PM
Description: Diamondbacks starter Bronson Arroyo will undergo Tommy John surgery, according to Steve Gilbert of mlb.com.
Insight: Arroyo was hoping rest and rehab would do the trick for his sprained UCL, but he'll need surgery. The 37-year-old was never on the disabled list in his career prior to this season.
Wade Miley, SP7/6/2014 4:36:00 PM
Description: Arizona starter Wade Miley was solid on Sunday, going 6 2/3 IP and yielding one run on five hits.
Insight: Miley (4-6, 4.42 ERA. 1.25 WHIP) has not been able to repeat his 2012 performance over the last two seasons and hope for his return to that level is dying out. When he pitches like he did Sunday, fantasy owners remember the "good old days."
Paul Goldschmidt, 1B7/6/2014 4:26:00 PM
Description: Arizona first baseman Paul Goldschmidt hasn't gotten much hype, but he's quietly putting together another solid season.
Insight: Goldschmidt is batting .311 with 16 HR, 58 RBI, 8 SB and a .938 OPS. He was expected to be a top-five fantasy player and he's not there but still putting together some good numbers.
Miguel Montero, C7/6/2014 11:05:00 AM
Description: Arizona catcher Miguel Montero is not in Sunday's starting lineup.
Insight: Montero has rebounded from a down 2013, batting .266 with 11 HR and 50 RBI through the first 81 games. Tuffy Gosewisch will get the start, but has little fantasy value.
Paul Goldschmidt, 1BHot7/5/2014 10:56:00 AM
Description: Arizona first baseman Paul Goldschmidt is a career .455 with two home runs versus Atlanta right-hander Aaron Harang.
Insight: It's not as good as his Tim Lincecum matchup, but a 1.738 OPS is pretty good. Goldschmidt is on a hot streak, batting .471 over his last five games.
Miguel Montero, C7/5/2014 10:52:00 AM
Description: Arizona catcher Miguel Montero is 10-for-19 (.526) against Braves starter Aaron Harang.
Insight: Montero has rebounded from a down 2013, batting .259 with 11 HR and 49 RBI through the first 80 games. he could have a big day off the struggling Harang (6.00 ERA, 2.06 WHIP last three starts).
Addison Reed, RP7/3/2014 12:40:00 PM
Description: Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson gave closer Addison Reed yet another vote of confidence Wednesday, according to the Arizona Republic.
Insight: "I think he's been pretty good," Gibson said of Reed. "He's done a pretty good job for us. We've had no discussions about removing him. You might feel differently, but we don't." Reed blew his fourth save of the season (23 chances) Wednesday at Pittsburgh. He has a 40/8 K/BB but has allowed eight home runs and 16 earned runs in 34 2/3 innings (4.15 ERA).
Wade Miley, SP7/1/2014 9:52:00 PM
Description: Arizona starter Wade Miley had a 4.85 ERA in June, but he threw eight innings of two-run ball and struck out 10 batters in his first start of July Tuesday at Pittsburgh.
Insight: Miley (3-6, 4.61 ERA, 1.27 WHIP) has a strong 106/34 K/BB in 113 1/3 innings, but he's surrendered 17 home runs.
Mark Trumbo, LF7/1/2014 8:02:00 PM
Description: Arizona left fielder Mark Trumbo (foot) is roughly 10-14 days away from returning, according to Steve Gilbert of mlb.com.
Insight: Trumbo has been sidelined since April 22 due to a stress fracture in his foot. He was hitting .210 with seven homers and 19 RBI before he got hurt.
Cody Ross, LF7/1/2014 9:28:00 AM
Description: Arizona outfielder Cody Ross is questionable for Tuesday's game against Pittsburgh with a bruised hip.
Insight: Ross (.216, 1 HR, 8 RBI) has hit so poorly that he's been reduced to a platoon role. Ignore him and look elsewhere for outfield help.
Nick Ahmed, SS6/29/2014 1:57:00 PM
Description: Just called up Nick Ahmed will get his first career start on Sunday in place of injured shortstop Chris Owings.
Insight: Ahmed batted .322 for Triple-A Reno and will likely split the time with Didi Gregorius.
Chris Owings, SS6/29/2014 1:40:00 PM
Description: Arizona shortstop Chris Owings (shoulder injury) has been placed on the 15-day disabled list.
Insight: The shortstop has batted .317 with 11 extra-base hits (3 HR), 12 RBI, nine runs and one steal in June and .277 with a .771 OPS for the season. Didi Gregorius and Nick Ahmed will likely share the position.
Cody Ross, LF6/29/2014 9:50:00 AM
Description: Arizona outfielder Cody Ross left Saturday's game against San Diego with a bruised hip and is questionable for Sunday.
Insight: Ross (.216, 1 HR, 8 RBI) has done nothing fantasy worthy in 2014, so this shouldn't change any fantasy lineups.
Chris Owings, SS6/28/2014 8:52:00 PM
Description: Arizona shortstop Chris Owings is out again Saturday due to a shoulder injury, according to Jack Magruder of foxsportsarizona.com.
Insight: He's dealing with left shoulder soreness and is expected to sit out Sunday as well. The shortstop has batted .317 with 11 extra-base hits (3 HR), 12 RBI, nine runs and one steal in June.
Chris Owings, SS6/27/2014 8:15:00 PM
Description: Arizona shortstop Chris Owings won't be in action Friday against the Padres. SOURCE: Steve Gilbert, MLB.com
Insight: He was a late scratch. If we hear an injury update we'll pass it along. Didi Gregorius (.196, 2 HR, 5 RBI) willl get the start at shortstop with Owings (.277, 6 HR, 21 RBI) sidelined.
Miguel Montero, C6/27/2014 10:32:00 AM
Description: Friday might be a good day for Arizona catcher Miguel Montero to rest as he's just 1-for-12 in his career against Padres starter Tyson Ross.
Insight: Montero had a solid June, batting .288 with five homers and 18 RBI, but we would avoid him in this unfavorable matchup.
Gerardo Parra, RF6/25/2014 10:01:00 AM
Description: Arizona right fielder Gerardo Parra had five hits in seven at-bats Tuesday night.
Insight: Parra doesn't hit for average (.265) or power (5 HR, .693 OPS) and doesn't steal much (5 SB), so he's not a strong fantasy option outside NL-only leagues.
Gerardo Parra, RF6/22/2014 11:17:00 AM
Description: Arizona right fielder Gerardo Parra is only 2-for-15 against Giants lefty Madison Bumgarner.
Insight: That's who he faces on Sunday. As a general rule, Parra shouldn't be starting against left-handers. This season he's been particularly bad against them, going 12-for-68 (.176 AVG) with 17 K's.
Paul Goldschmidt, 1BHot6/20/2014 10:14:00 AM
Description: Arizona first baseman Paul Goldschmidt loves facing Giants starter Tim Lincecum.
Insight: He's a career .542 hitter with seven homers and 17 RBI in just 24 at-bats. Goldy leads the league in hits and is batting .341 over the past two weeks. A perfect time to face his favorite pitcher.
Chase Anderson, RP6/19/2014 2:33:00 PM
Description: Diamondbacks starter Chase Anderson will face a soft Milwaukee lineup with both Ryan Braun and Jonathan LuCroy sitting out Thursday's game.
Insight: Anderson is one of the few Arizona pitchers with good numbers this season: 5-1, 3.21 ERA, 1.22 WHIP.
Miguel Montero, CHot6/19/2014 12:38:00 PM
Description: Arizona catcher Miguel Montero is not in Thursday afternoon's starting lineup versus Milwaukee and Yovani Gallardo.
Insight: Montero has been on fire in June, batting .317 with five homers, 14 RBI and a .948 OPS through the first 16 games. He's already hit 10 homers this season and is well within reach of his career high (18).
Bronson Arroyo, SP6/17/2014 10:16:00 PM
Description: Arizona starter Bronson Arroyo has a sprained UCL in his pitching elbow. SOURCE: Steve Gilbert, MLB.com
Insight: A tear likely would have meant Tommy John surgery so finding out it's only a sprain should qualify as good news. Either way, it doesn't sound like Arroyo (7-4, 4.08 ERA) will be pitching for the Diamondbacks any time soon.
Bronson Arroyo, SP6/16/2014 7:57:00 PM
Description: For the first time in his career, Arizona right-hander Bronson Arroyo has been placed on the 15-day DL.
Insight: He's dealing with elbow tendinitis. It's poor timing for fantasy owners as Arroyo (7-4, 4.08 ERA) has won his last three starts in impressive fashion. There's no timetable for the 37-year-old's return.
Paul Goldschmidt, 1BHot6/16/2014 10:26:00 AM
Description: Diamondbacks first baseman Paul Goldschmidt is on a nine-game hitting streak, including home runs in his last two games and has a favorable matchup Monday night.
Insight: Goldschmidt (.309, 50 RBI, 50 R, .943 OPS) has an MLB-high 27 doubles and 158 total bases. He hit his 15th homer of the season Sunday. He's produced exactly as expected this season and should be in all lineups Monday as he's 4-for-6 against Milwaukee starter Wily Peralta.
Aaron Hill, 2B6/15/2014 11:33:00 AM
Description: Diamondbacks second baseman Aaron Hill has a lengthy history of success against Dodgers starter Josh Beckett.
Insight: Hill and Beckett squared off often when both played for AL East teams. Hill is 15-for-40 (.375) with seven two-baggers and a homer against the right-hander.
Martin Prado, 3B6/15/2014 10:01:00 AM
Description: Arizona third baseman Martin Prado has batted .333 with 11 extra-base hits (3 HR), 19 RBI, 17 runs and an .861 OPS over his last 33 games.
Insight: Prado has struck out in 11.6 percent of his plate appearances during that span after fanning in 17 percent of his plate appearances and hitting .236 with zero home runs in his first 37 games. Prado has eligibility at second, third and in the outfield, but he's really only useful at second base because of his lack of power.
Paul Goldschmidt, 1BHot6/15/2014 10:00:00 AM
Description: Diamondbacks first baseman Paul Goldschmidt leads the majors with 41 extra-base hits.
Insight: Goldschmidt (.309, 50 RBI, 50 R, .933 OPS) has an MLB-high 27 doubles and hit his 14th homer of the season Saturday night. He's produced exactly as expected this season.
Chris Owings, SS6/14/2014 12:39:00 PM
Description: Diamondbacks shortstop Chris Owings is a stunning 9-for-11 (.818) against Dodgers veteran Dan Haren.
Insight: Owings has played well in his first full season in the bigs, hitting .238 with six homers, 24 runs and six stolen bases.
Mark Trumbo, LF6/12/2014 7:59:00 PM
Description: Arizona left fielder Mark Trumbo is about a month away from returning to the big leagues. SOURCE: Nick Piecoro, Arizona Republic
Insight: Trumbo has been sidelined for the past month and a half with a stress fracture in his foot. He was hitting .210 with seven homers and 19 RBI before he got hurt.
Paul Goldschmidt, 1BHot6/10/2014 8:34:00 PM
Description: Diamondbacks first baseman Paul Goldschmidt has hit three homers in his last six games and swiped two bases in that span.
Insight: He's raised his OPS from .875 to .930 since June 1. Goldschmidt is hitting .309 with 25 doubles, 13 homers, 48 RBI, 49 runs and five steals.
Addison Reed, RP 6/10/2014 8:32:00 PM
Description: Arizona closer Addison Reed picked up save No. 16 Tuesday against Houston.
Insight: The Diamondbacks only have 29 wins all season, but they have surprisingly handed Reed 18 save chances. He's allowed an unsightly eight home runs in 29 1/3 innings and has a 3.99 ERA, but his 33/4 K/BB is superb.
Bronson Arroyo, SP6/10/2014 8:26:00 PM
Description: Diamondbacks starter Bronson Arroyo threw seven innings and allowed one run on six hits in a win over the Astros Tuesday.
Insight: Arroyo is 6-4 with a 4.22 ERA, a 1.30 WHIP and just 46 Ks in 81 innings this season. His ERA hasn't been below 4.15 at any point, though he's gone 5-2 with a 2.76 ERA over his last nine starts after going 1-2 with a 9.50 ERA in his first four starts.
Trevor Cahill, SP6/9/2014 7:53:00 PM
Description: The Diamondbacks have designated Trevor Cahill for assigment, though GM Kevin Towers indicated the right-hander may remain with the organization once he clears waivers, according to Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic. "There’s a game plan in place for what we’re ultimately going to do, but as of right now he’s just designated," Towers said.
Insight: D'Backs manager Kirk Gibson said earlier today that the plan was to get Cahill back into the rotation. Arizona sent Jarrod Parker and Ryan Cook to Oakland in the deal for Cahill following the 2011 season. He has a contract for $7 million in 2014, $12 million in 2015 and club options in 2016 and 2017 with buyouts, so Arizona would be eating a lot of money if Cahill chooses free agency. The D'Backs likely received word from Cahill that he'll accept his assignment to the minors before they designated him for assignment.
Trevor Cahill, SP 6/9/2014 7:17:00 PM
Description: The Diamondbacks have designated Trevor Cahill for assigment.
Insight: D'Backs manager Kirk Gibson said earlier today that the plan was to get Cahill back into the rotation, but the organization has chosen to cut ties with the right-hander. Arizona sent Jarrod Parker and Ryan Cook to Oakland in the deal for Cahill following the 2011 season. Cahill has a contract for $7 million in 2014, $12 million in 2015 and club options in 2016 and 2017 with buyouts, so Arizona is eating a lot of money.
Eric Chavez, 3B6/9/2014 6:34:00 PM
Description: Arizona third baseman Eric Chavez is expected to go on the disabled list with a left knee injury, according to Jack Magruder of foxsportsarizona.com.
Insight: Chavez hasn't been able to shake a knee injury all season even though he has just 69 at-bats and started just 10 of his 44 games.
Miguel Montero, CHot6/8/2014 10:56:00 AM
Description: Arizona catcher Miguel Montero has hit three homers with eight RBI in his last three games and has crushed Braves starter Aaron Harang, who will pitch Sunday.
Insight: Montero is having a nice rebound year after last year's debacle. He's hitting .274 with 35 RBI and an .802 OPS. He's also 10-for-18 (.556) with a double, a homer and five walks against Harang, so make sure Montero is in your lineup Sunday.
Miguel Montero, CHot6/8/2014 10:10:00 AM
Description: Arizona catcher Miguel Montero sent a ball into orbit for the third straight game and the eighth time this season Saturday against the Braves.
Insight: Montero is having a nice rebound year after last year's debacle. He's hitting .274 with 35 RBI and an .802 OPS. He's driven in eight runs in his last three games.
Cody Ross, LF6/6/2014 6:31:00 PM
Description: Arizona left fielder Cody Ross won't participate in Friday's contest against Atlanta.
Insight: Ross (.176, 1 HR, 7 RBI) is just one for his last 13 at the plate. David Peralta (.400, 0 HR, 0 RBI) is getting another start in left field.
Miguel Montero, C6/6/2014 6:28:00 PM
Description: Arizona catcher Miguel Montero will sit out Friday against Atlanta.
Insight: Considering Montero is hitless in his career against Braves starter Julio Teheran (0-for-8), it's probably for the best. Tuffy Gosewich (.219, 1 HR, 4 RBI) will get the start at catcher.
Daniel Hudson, SP6/6/2014 10:25:00 AM
Description: Righthander Daniel Hudson (Tommy John surgery) has been allowed to throw breaking balls for a few weeks and could be ready to pitch to live hitters shortly.
Insight: Hudson had his best year in 2011, going 16-12 with a 3.49 ERA in 33 starts. He's ticketed for a second-half bullpen spot, at best, so he likely won't have much fantasy value.
Mark Trumbo, LF6/6/2014 10:23:00 AM
Description: Diamondbacks left fielder Mark Trumbo's new timetable has a goal of returning for the third week in June, according to an Arizona Republic report.
Insight: Trumbo suffered a stress fracture of the third metatarsal bone in his left foot and was placed on the disabled list on April 24. The initial six-week timetable has passed and it appears the total time he'll be sidelined will be eight or nine weeks.
Miguel Montero, C6/6/2014 10:00:00 AM
Description: Diamondbacks catcher Miguel Montero has been on fire recently (6-for-9, 2 HR, 7 RBI in his last two games) but he faces a tough matchup on Friday.
Insight: Montero (.276, 7 HR, 34 RBI) is 0-for-8 with three strikeouts versus Braves right-hander Julio Teheran.
Miguel Montero, C6/4/2014 11:54:00 AM
Description: Diamondbacks catcher Miguel Montero is hitting .500 against Colorado right-hander Jordan Lyles.
Insight: With Lyles (5-1, 3.46 ERA) pitching on Wednesday, Montero (.257, 5 HR, 27 RBI) needs to be in all lineups. Pay whatever it takes to get him on your daily fantasy team.
Gerardo Parra, RF6/4/2014 11:49:00 AM
Description: Diamondbacks right fielder Gerardo Parra is 5-for-11 in his career against Rockies starter Jordan Lyles.
Insight: Obviously that's not a huge body of work but Parra (.271, 5 HR, 20 RBI) seems to have the upper hand in this matchup. If you're looking for outfield help, give him a try on Wednesday.
Archie Bradley, SP6/4/2014 9:57:00 AM
Description: Diamondbacks right-hander Archie Bradley is targeting late June for his return from a strained elbow. SOURCE: Arizona Republic
Insight: Bradley's big league debut should be coming sooner rather than later. Earlier this year, ESPN's Keith Law had him at No. 9 on his list of MLB's top 100 prospects.
Chris Owings, SS6/4/2014 9:27:00 AM
Description: Diamondbacks shortstop Chris Owings plated two runs in Tuesday's win over Colorado.
Insight: He was a single shy of the cycle. Owings has played well in his first full season in the bigs, hitting .274 with six stolen bases. His .752 OPS in 179 at bats is fifth-highest among qualified rookies.
Paul Goldschmidt, 1B 6/3/2014 5:02:00 PM
Description: Diamondbacks first baseman Paul Goldschmidt is getting his first day off of the season Tuesday night, according to Steve Gilbert of mlb.com.
Insight: He started Arizona's first 59 games at first base. Goldschmidt is having another excellent season, hitting .299 with 22 doubles, 10 home runs, 38 RBI, 42 runs and an .875 OPS.
Didi Gregorius, SS6/3/2014 12:47:00 PM
Description: Diamondbacks utility infielder Didi Gregorius has been recalled from Triple-A Reno (PCL) to take the place of the injuried Cliff Pennington (sprained tumb).
Insight: While Chris Owings will still start at shortstop for Arizona, Gregorius could see some time spelling Aaron Hill at second base, as well as Owings. In 57 games with Reno, he hit .310/.389/.477 with three homers, 14 RBI, 14 doubles and three steals. He's only worth adding in the deepest of formats.
J.J. Putz, RP6/3/2014 11:50:00 AM
Description: Arizona righthanded reliever J.J. Putz threw a simulated inning (24 pitches) and apparently felt good, according to beat writer Jack Magruder.
Insight: Putz should be sent out on a rehab assignment any day now and could be back on the roster in short order. Putz' fantasy value is minimal in his setup role for Addison Reed.
A.J. Pollock, CF6/1/2014 2:10:00 PM
Description: Diamondbacks center fielder A.J. Pollock (hand) will undergo surgery and is expected to miss six-to-eight weeks, according to Jack Magruder of foxsportsarizona.com.
Insight: Pollock batted .379 with 10 doubles, three triples, three homers, 10 RBI, 17 runs and eight steals in his last 23 games, but he fractured his right hand when he was hit by a pitch Saturday night. His absence will open up more at-bats for Cody Ross and Eric Chavez.
A.J. Pollock, CF6/1/2014 9:52:00 AM
Description: Diamondbacks center fielder A.J. Pollock fractured his right hand Saturday night when he was hit by a pitch, according to Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic.
Insight: Pollock has batted .379 with 10 doubles, three triples, three homers, 10 RBI, 17 runs and eight steals in his last 23 games, so this is an unfortunate turn of events. The D'Backs will probably give more at-bats to Cody Ross and Eric Chavez with Pollock out.
Miguel Montero, C5/31/2014 10:59:00 AM
Description: Arizona catcher Miguel Montero could get the day off as he's just 1-for-13 (.077) against Reds ace Johnny Cueto.
Insight: Montero (.256, 5 HR, 26 RBI) hasn't done anything spectacular with the bat, but he won't kill your lineup. He's never progressed past the .280 hitter who knocks out 15-18 homers a year.
Josh Collmenter, SP5/30/2014 6:27:00 PM
Description: Diamondbacks starter Josh Collmenter threw a three-hit shutout Thursday against the Reds.
Insight: Collmenter pitched to the minimum 27 batters in the game, walking none and getting three double plays. He's gone 4-2 with a 3.50 ERA and a 1.04 WHIP in 54 innings since he joined the starting lineup.
Miguel Montero, C5/29/2014 6:05:00 PM
Description: Arizona catcher Miguel Montero will take a seat Thursday against Cincinnati. SOURCE: Nick Piecoro, Arizona Republic
Insight: The veteran is just getting a breather. Montero (.262, 5 HR, 26 RBI) should be back in there on Friday.
Martin Prado, 3B5/28/2014 10:15:00 AM
Description: Arizona third baseman Martin Prado hit his first homer of the season Tuesday against the Padres.
Insight: Prado is batting .264 with 21 RBI this season and the lack of any power or speed has made things worse. He's struck out in a career-high 15.7 percent of his plate appearances, up from 8.0 percent last year.
Wade Miley, SP5/28/2014 10:13:00 AM
Description: Arizona starter Wade Miley struck out 11 batters in seven innings Tuesday against the Padres.
Insight: Miley (3-5, 4.76 ERA, 1.30 WHIP) has been solid in May, recording a 4.01 ERA and a 1.22 WHIP in 33 2/3 innings after putting up a 5.36 ERA in his first seven starts. He hasn't allowed a homer in his last two starts after giving up 10 in his first 62 innings.
Mark Trumbo, LF5/27/2014 7:52:00 PM
Description: Diamondbacks left fielder Mark Trumbo (foot) will hit in the batting cage Wednesday for the first time since his injury. SOURCE: Jack Magruder, foxsportsarizona.com
Insight: Trumbo suffered a stress fracture of the third metatarsal bone in his left foot nearly five weeks ago. He'll be out longer than his initial six-week timetable.
Aaron Hill, 2B5/26/2014 10:11:00 PM
Description: Diamondbacks second baseman Aaron Hill didn't start Monday, but he could be back Tuesday, according to mlb.com.
Insight: Hill fouled a pitch off his left ankle Sunday and exited a few innings later. He's available to pinch hit on Monday.
Bronson Arroyo, SP5/26/2014 6:59:00 AM
Description: Arizona starter Bronson Arroyo left Game 1 of Sunday's doubleheader against the NY Mets due to a sore right elbow.
Insight: Arroyo threw six innings yielding one run and six hits on 75 pitched, but was pulled with a tender elbow. This probably won't keep him from his next start, but it is worth watching. Arroyo has yielded one run or less in four of his last five appearances.
Aaron Hill, 2B5/26/2014 6:53:00 AM
Description: Aaron Hill left the second game of Arizona's doubleheader on Sunday after fouling a ball off his left ankle and is questionable for Monday's game with San Diego.
Insight: Hill is batting .257 with 4 HR, 23 RBI and 16 runs scored. Cliff Pennington would probably get the playing time if Hill is sidelined, but Pennington's bat shouldn't excite fantasy owners.
Aaron Hill, 2B5/25/2014 12:09:00 PM
Description: Aaron Hill could have a tough time against Daisuke Matsuzaka Sunday in the second game of Arizona's doubleheader.
Insight: Hill faced Dice-K on a regular basis when both were playing in the AL East early on in their careers and it rarely worked out in his favor (just 5-for-28 with five punchouts). He doesn't have any prior history with today's Game 1 starter, Rafael Montero (0-2, 6.97 ERA).
Miguel Montero, C5/22/2014 3:59:00 PM
Description: D-Backs catcher Miguel Montero will get Thursday off. Tully Gosewisch will get the start.
Insight: Montero (.266, 5 HR, 24 RBI) has been a reliable, but unspectacular, source of production.
Gerardo Parra, RF5/22/2014 10:25:00 AM
Description: Arizona right fielder Gerardo Parra has hit for the cycle among his career 5-for-9 against Cardinals right-hander Lance Lynn.
Insight: Parra can't hit left-handers, but he's batting .292 against right-handers and has a favorable matchup, so could useful on Thursday.
Aaron Hill, 2B5/21/2014 5:32:00 PM
Description: Diamondbacks second baseman Aaron Hill (shoulder) is back in the starting lineup Tuesday, according to Steve Gilbert of mlb.com.
Insight: Hill has batted .319 with two homers, seven RBI and an .841 OPS in 12 May games to get his season average up to .269, but he hasn't played since May 16 due to a sore shoulder.
Aaron Hill, 2B5/20/2014 9:36:00 PM
Description: Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson said that Aaron Hill (shoulder) wanted to play Tuesday , but the team decided to keep him out another day, according to Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic.
Insight: Hill has batted .319 with two homers, seven RBI and an .841 OPS in 12 May games to get his season average up to .269, but he hasn't played since May 16 due to a sore shoulder.
Martin Prado, 3B5/19/2014 6:07:00 PM
Description: Arizona third baseman Martin Prado's vision checked out fine on Monday, according to Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic.
Insight: Prado left Sunday's game with blurred vision. He should be in the lineup Tuesday. He's been a terrible fantasy option this season, hitting .256 with no homers or steals and 16 RBI. He has a career-high 16 percent strikeout rate, up from eight percent last year.
Aaron Hill, 2B5/19/2014 11:08:00 AM
Description: Arizona second baseman Aaron Hill (sore shoulder) is probable for Tuesday's game against St. Louis.
Insight: Hill has batted .319 with two homers, seven RBI and an .841 OPS in 12 May games to get his season average up to .269.
Chris Owings, SSHot5/18/2014 9:48:00 PM

Insight: Owings (.291, 2 HR, 7 RBI) also stole two bases. His batting average has gone up 27 points in the last two days.
Cody Ross, LF5/18/2014 8:39:00 PM
Description: Diamondbacks left fielder Cody Ross slugged his first home run of the 2014 season Sunday in a win against the Dodgers.
Insight: It was a no-doubter too, traveling an estimated distance of 449 feet. In fact, that's his longest homer since 2006 when he hit a 466-footer at Dolphin Stadium. The home run was Ross' first since suffering a dislocated hip last August.
Martin Prado, 3B5/18/2014 7:55:00 PM
Description: Arizona third baseman Martin Prado left Sunday's game in the fourth inning because of blurred vision. SOURCE: Diamondbacks.com
Insight: He was hitless in two at bats. Prado's availability is up in the air for Tuesday night's series opener against St. Louis.
Chris Owings, SS5/18/2014 10:14:00 AM
Description: Diamondbacks shortstop Chris Owings was a single shy of the cycle Saturday against the Dodgers while scoring four runs, and he has a good matchup Sunday.
Insight: In eight career at-bats against Dodgers starter Dan Haren, Owings has six hits, including two doubles. That's good for a .750 average.
A.J. Pollock, CFHot5/18/2014 9:14:00 AM
Description: Diamondbacks outfielder A.J. Pollock has batted .417 with six extra-base hits (two HR), seven runs and six steals in his last 10 games.
Insight: Pollock has raised his average from .256 to .302 during that span. He's one of the top defensive outfielders in baseball but he hasn't done much to get excited about offensively during his career.
Paul Goldschmidt, 1BHot5/18/2014 9:12:00 AM
Description: Diamondbacks first baseman Paul Goldschmidt wreaked havoc on the Dodgers Saturday night, going 4-for-5 with two homers, six RBI and five runs.
Insight: What a night. With a .324 average, nine home runs, 32 RBI, 35 runs and a .946 OPS, Goldschmidt has been everything fantasy owners expected.
Aaron Hill, 2B5/16/2014 6:26:00 PM
Description: Arizona second baseman Aaron Hill (sore shoulder) has been scratched from Saturday's lineup.
Insight: Hill has batted .319 with two homers, seven RBI and an .841 OPS to get his season average up to .269 after hitting .250 prior to May.

Description: Diamondbacks infielder Martin Prado's average dropped to .247 after he went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts Wednesday afternoon against the Nationals. He has zero homers and zero steals this year.
Insight: Prado also got off to a slow start last year, hitting .238 in his first 286 at-bats, but he still was putting the ball in play (10.3 K%). This year, Prado has a career-worst 16.5 percent K rate.
Aaron Hill, 2B5/14/2014 6:32:00 PM
Description: Arizona second baseman Aaron Hill has batted .326 with two home runs and seven RBI in May.
Insight: He hit .245 with two homers and a .700 OPS in April, but he's slowly getting his numbers back to where fantasy owners want them.
Brandon McCarthy, SP5/14/2014 6:30:00 PM
Description: Arizona starter Brandon McCarthy was dominant Wednesday against Washington after getting destroyed his last time out.
Insight: McCarthy gave up nine hits and seven earned runs in 3 1/3 innings last Friday, but he held the Nats to two hits and one run while striking out seven and walking none in eight innings Wednesday afternoon. The right-hander has thrown seven innings or more and allowed two runs or less in three of his last four starts, but it's results like his previous start that make him tough to trust. He's 1-6 with a 5.01 ERA and a 1.22 WHIP this year.
Addison Reed, RPCold5/13/2014 9:48:00 AM
Description: Closer Addison Reed got a "vote of confidence" from manager Kirk Gibson after blowing a second save Monday night.
Insight: Reed (5.03 ERA, 1.27 WHIP, 11 SV) is not pitching as well as he did last season in Chicago and the Diamondbacks could start looking for alternatives. Fantasy owners should be concerned.
Martin Prado, 3B5/12/2014 11:56:00 AM
Description: Diamondbacks infielder Martin Prado is a career .500 hitter (7-for-14) against Washington right-hander Jordan Zimmermann.
Insight: Prado is struggling this season batting just .248 with a .596 OPS and may not be able to take advantage of the favorable matchup.
Wade Miley, SP 5/10/2014 10:18:00 PM
Description: Arizona starter Wade Miley held the White Sox to two runs on four hits in seven innings (6 K, 0 BB) Saturday to win his third game of the year.
Insight: Miley (3-3, 4.82 ERA, 1.21 WHIP) posted a 5.36 ERA in his first seven starts and he's chipping away at that ERA. The left-hander was good at keeping the ball in the park the last two years (0.8 HR/9), but this year he has given up eight homers in 56 innings (1.29 HR/9) and just two of them were solo shots.
Alfredo Marte, CF5/10/2014 2:50:00 PM
Description: Arizona backup outfielder Aldredo Marte will get a chance to start on Saturday.
Insight: Marte batted .342 in 26 games at Reno of the PCL and is 2-for-8 in two games with the big club. He'll be facing Jose Quintana (1-2, 3.56 ERA, 1.209 WHIP).
Brandon McCarthy, SP5/9/2014 10:55:00 PM
Description: Arizona starter Brandon McCarthy was roughed up by the White Sox Friday night.
Insight: McCarthy gave up nine hits and seven earned runs in 3 1/3 innings. The right-hander was solid in his previous two starts but now has a 5.66 ERA and a 1.38 WHIP this season. He's given up eight home runs in 47 2/3 innings.
Eric Chavez, 3B5/7/2014 8:27:00 PM
Description: Arizona 3B Eric Chavez went 3-for-4 in Wednesday's victory over Milwaukee.
Insight: That gives Chavez seven hits in his last 12 at bats. With Martin Prado (.243, 0 HR, 10 RBI) seeing most of the action at third base, the veteran Chavez is not a fantasy option.
Bronson Arroyo, SPHot5/7/2014 3:57:00 PM
Description: Arizona starter Bronson Arroyo has put up a 0.87 ERA in his last three starts.
Insight: Arroyo threw 7 1/3 innings and gave up one unearned run on five hits Wednesday at Milwaukee. He had a 9.50 ERA after his first four starts this season but is down to 4.89.
Paul Goldschmidt, 1BHot5/7/2014 3:54:00 PM
Description: Diamondbacks first baseman Paul Goldschmidt had a fifth straight multi-hit game and homered for the third time in four games Wednesday at Milwaukee.
Insight: Goldschmidt has gone 18-for-40 (.450) with four home runs during a nine-game hitting streak.
A.J. Pollock, CF5/6/2014 6:17:00 PM
Description: Diamondbacks outfielder A.J. Pollock (groin) will start Tuesday for the first time since last Wednesday.
Insight: A groin injury limited him to pinch-hitting and defensive duty in the past five games. Pollock is one of baseball's top defensive outfielders but doesn't offer much value with the stick.
Aaron Hill, 2B5/6/2014 2:15:00 PM
Description: Arizona second baseman Aaron Hill went 4-for-4 with two RBI Monday at Milwaukee.
Insight: He's still hitting just .274 with two homers and 19 RBI in 135 at-bats this season.
Martin Prado, 3BCold5/6/2014 1:33:00 PM
Description: Diamondbacks infielder Martin Prado has gone 5-for-13 (.385) with a double against Brewers starter Marco Estrada.
Insight: Prado has a strikeout rate of 17 percent, up from eight percent last season, and is hitting .250 with zero home runs. He has a good chance to do some damage Tuesday against Estrada, however.
Paul Goldschmidt, 1BHot5/4/2014 7:29:00 PM
Description: Diamondbacks first baseman Paul Goldschmidt went 2-for-3 with a solo homer Sunday at San Diego.
Insight: With a .331 average, five homers, 19 RBI, 23 runs and a .905 OPS, Goldschmidt has lived up to expectations so far.
Miguel Montero, C5/4/2014 2:08:00 PM
Description: D-Backs catcher Miguel Montero has never had a hit against Padres starter Tyson Ross (0-for-9 with three strikeouts). That's probably why he's not playing Sunday in the series finale.
Insight: Tuffy Gosewich will handle the catching duties for Arizona. If the Diamondbacks are able to chase Ross (3-3, 3.68 ERA) from the game early we could see Montero (.286, 4 HR, 17 RBI) come in as a pinch-hitter.
Brandon McCarthy, SP5/4/2014 10:21:00 AM
Description: Arizona starter Brandon McCarthy fired seven scoreless innings Saturday for his first win of the 2014 season.
Insight: McCarthy had been 0-5 with a 5.54 ERA in his previous six outings. The right-hander boasts a 4 to 1 strikeout to walk ratio in 44 1/3 innings this season (40 K's, 10 BB).
Bronson Arroyo, SP5/3/2014 10:05:00 AM
Description: D-Backs starter Bronson Arroyo tossed all zeros Friday in a win against the Padres.
Insight: Arroyo (6.03 ERA) scattered three hits across seven innings. Friday was the right-hander's longest outing of the season. The win evens his record at 2-2.
Archie Bradley, SP4/29/2014 6:20:00 PM
Description: According to Jack Magruder of foxsportsarizona.com, Diamondbacks GM Kevin Towers said an MRI showed no fraying in top pitching prospect Archie Bradley's ulnar collateral ligament.
Insight: Bradley will be shut down from throwing for two weeks, but Arizona thinks his mild flexor strain is just a cause of regular wear and tear.
Archie Bradley, SP4/29/2014 3:08:00 PM
Description: Diamondbacks pitching prospect Archie Bradley may have to delay his timetable for a major league debut after being placed on the disabled list due to a mild flexor strain.
Insight: Arizona GM Kevin Towers said earlier this month that the team wouldn't rush Bradley to the majors and the team's 8-21 record makes it easier for them to take their time in bringing the future ace up to the big leagues.
Brandon McCarthy, SP 4/27/2014 8:21:00 PM
Description: Diamondbacks starter Brandon McCarthy struck out 12 batters and gave up two runs in seven innings Sunday against the Phillies but couldn't avoid dropping to 0-5.
Insight: McCarthy has allowed a whopping 205 hits in 172 1/3 innings since joining the D'Backs last year (4.75 ERA). After Sunday's start, the 30-year-old has a 5.54 ERA and a 1.42 WHIP this season.
Mark Trumbo, LF4/25/2014 6:14:00 PM
Description: Diamondbacks left fielder Mark Trumbo (foot) said he has been told he'll miss six weeks, according to Jack Magruder of foxsportsarizona.com.
Insight: Trumbo has a stress fracture of the third metatarsal bone in his left foot and his MRI also revealed plantar fasciitis. Trumbo suffered a stress fracture in his right foot at the end of the 2011 season and needed 5 1/2 months to heal, so there's a chance he could be out longer than six weeks this time. He hit .210 with seven homers and 19 RBI in his first 21 games this season.
A.J. Pollock, CF4/25/2014 6:09:00 PM
Description: Diamondbacks outfielder A.J. Pollock (neck) is back in the lineup Friday.
Insight: Pollock left Sunday's game due to a stiff neck and didn't start the last four games. He's hitting .235 and doesn't offer much to fantasy owners.
Archie Bradley, SP4/24/2014 9:36:00 PM
Description: Diamondbacks pitching prospect Archie Bradley has a 3.98 ERA, a 1.33 WHIP and a 20/8 K/BB in 20 1/3 innings with Triple-A Reno this season.
Insight: The D'Backs have already had to replace three of the five members of their expected starting rotation (Patrick Corbin due to injury, Trevor Cahill and Randall Delgado due to ineffectiveness), but they haven't made the call for Bradley yet. Arizona GM Kevin Towers said earlier this month that the team wouldn't rush Bradley to the majors, and his mixed results so far make that decision easier.
Martin Prado, 3BCold4/24/2014 8:39:00 PM
Description: Arizona infielder Martin Prado went 0-for-4 Thursday and is batting .234 with zero homers this season.
Insight: Prado has struck out in 17.2 percent of his plate appearances, up from just 8.0 percent a year ago. When Prado started off with a .238 average in his first 73 games last year, he had a 10.3 percent K rate and the low average was more the result of a .250 BABIP.
A.J. Pollock, CF4/24/2014 5:24:00 PM
Description: Diamondbacks outfielder A.J. Pollock (neck) remained out of the lineup Thursday at Chicago.
Insight: Pollock left Sunday's game due to a stiff neck and still wasn't ready to start despite pinch running on Wednesday.
Mark Trumbo, LF4/24/2014 1:20:00 PM
Description: Diamondbacks left fielder Mark Trumbo's MRI revealed a stress fracture in his left foot and he's been placed on the disabled list.
Insight: Trumbo has hit .210 with seven homers and 19 RBI in his first 21 games this season. He missed almost six months with a stress fracture of his right foot in 2011, hopefully this isn't as bad.
Aaron Hill, 2B4/23/2014 6:49:00 PM
Description: Arizona second baseman Aaron Hill had four hits, including a double and a triple, in five at-bats Wednesday at Chicago.
Insight: Hill is still hitting just .240 with one home run and a 23/4 K/BB in 96 at-bats this season.
Mark Trumbo, LF4/23/2014 6:04:00 PM
Description: According to Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic, Diamondbacks left fielder Mark Trumbo's MRI revealed a stress fracture in his left foot.
Insight: He'll head for a second opinion. Trumbo has hit .210 with seven homers and 19 RBI in his first 21 games this season.
Martin Prado, 3B4/23/2014 10:58:00 AM
Description: Arizona infielder Martin Prado is not a preferred fantasy option Wednesday against Cubs starter Jeff Samardzija.
Insight: Samardzija has limited Prado to just two hits in 13 career at bats (.157 AVG). Prado has been pretty useless this season (.247 AVG, zero homers in 22 games) and shouldn't be owned in any fantasy leagues.
Aaron Hill, 2B4/22/2014 7:00:00 PM
Description: Arizona second baseman Aaron Hill won't be in action Tuesday versus the Cubs. SOURCE: Diamondbacks on Twitter
Insight: We haven't heard of any injury so we're assuming it's just a routine off day for the 32-year-old. Martin Prado (.247, 0 HR, 6 RBI) is getting the nod at second base.
Miguel Montero, C4/22/2014 6:57:00 PM
Description: Diamondbacks catcher Miguel Montero will be given the night off Tuesday against Chicago. SOURCE: Diamondbacks on Twitter
Insight: It's only his third absence of the season. Tuffy Gosewich, who is hitless on the season, will start at catcher for Arizona.
Mark Trumbo, LF4/22/2014 6:53:00 PM
Description: Mark Trumbo's absence from Tuesday's starting lineup is related to a sore left foot. SOURCE: Nick Piecoro, Arizona Republic
Insight: It's unknown if Trumbo is headed for any tests on the injured foot. The Diamondbacks are off to a terrible start (5-17) and losing Trumbo would just be adding insult to injury.
A.J. Pollock, CF4/22/2014 6:40:00 PM
Description: Diamondbacks outfielder A.J. Pollock (neck) is not in the lineup for the second straight game Tuesday against the Cubs.
Insight: Pollock left Sunday's game due to a stiff neck and is still not ready to return. Tony Campana will start in his place.
Mark Trumbo, LF4/22/2014 6:09:00 PM
Description: Diamondbacks left fielder Mark Trumbo won't be in the lineup Tuesday against the Cubs. SOURCE: Diamondbacks on Twitter
Insight: Trumbo has logged the sixth-most at bats in the National League this season and could probably use a night off. His power numbers have been excellent (7 HR, 19 RBI) but he's hitting just .210.
Martin Prado, 3B 4/20/2014 2:07:00 PM
Description: Diamondbacks third baseman Martin Prado is getting a day off Sunday against the Dodgers.
Insight: Prado hasn't hit a homer or stolen a base and is batting .260 in 77 at-bats this year.
Aaron Hill, 2B4/20/2014 9:46:00 AM
Description: Diamondbacks second baseman Aaron Hill has taken 38 at-bats against Dodgers starter Josh Beckett and come away with 15 hits (.395), including seven doubles and one homer.
Insight: Hill has struck out 20 times in 82 at-bats and is hitting .232 with one homer, but seeing Beckett Sunday should wake up his bat.
Cody Ross, LF4/18/2014 7:33:00 PM
Description: D-Backs left fielder Cody Ross has been activated from the 15-day DL.
Insight: Ross hit .290 during a nine-game rehab stint with Triple-A Reno. Tonight's contest against the Dodgers will be Ross' first big league game since suffering a broken hip last August.
Martin Prado, 3BCold4/16/2014 10:28:00 AM
Description: Diamondbacks third baseman Martin Prado is 4-for-23 against Mets starter Dillon Gee.
Insight: Prado is off to a cold start for the second straight season. He'll take a .231 batting average, zero homers and a .552 OPS into Wednesday's game versus Gee and the Mets.
Bronson Arroyo, SPCold4/16/2014 9:50:00 AM
Description: Diamondbacks starter Bronson Arroyo gave up nine earned runs on 10 hits in 3 1/3 innings Tuesday against the Mets.
Insight: Arroyo has a 9.95 ERA and a 1.97 WHIP in 12 2/3 innings with his new ballclub. He has averaged just 86.4 mph with his sinker (his main pitch), down a full mph from last season, and he may still be dealing with the back injury that caused him to miss most of spring training.
Archie Bradley, SP4/15/2014 12:16:00 PM
Description: Diamondbacks general manager Kevin Towers reiterated that top pitching prospect Archie Bradley (RHP) will not be rushed to the majors.
Insight: Though fantasy owners, Bradley's agent and Diamondbacks fans want him up with the big club, the GM is resisting at this time. Still, figure him to be in the Arizona starting rotation by June 1 after 2014 free agency and Super Two dates have been passed. If you have room we still recommend stashing him.
Cody Ross, LF4/14/2014 8:47:00 PM
Description: According to Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic, Diamondbacks outfielder Cody Ross (hip) is targeting Friday for his return.
Insight: Ross had surgery for a dislocated hip last August. He didn't do anything special prior to the injury and finished with a .278 average, eight homers, 38 RBI and a .745 OPS in 317 at-bats.
Trevor Cahill, SPCold4/14/2014 8:43:00 PM
Description: The Diamondbacks have demoted Trevor Cahill to the bullpen, the team announced via Twitter.
Insight: Cahill has a dreadful 9.17 ERA and a 2.15 WHIP in 17 2/3 innings this season (four starts). Mike Bolsinger, who has a 3.31 ERA and a 1.30 WHIP in 385 2/3 minor league innings but hasn't pitched in the majors, will take his spot in the rotation.
Mark Trumbo, LFHot4/13/2014 11:15:00 PM
Description: Arizona left fielder Mark Trumbo cracked another homer Sunday against the Dodgers.
Insight: Trumbo has the most home runs and RBI in the majors with six and 18, respectively.
Martin Prado, 3B4/13/2014 3:55:00 PM
Description: Diamondbacks third baseman Martin Prado (rest) is not in the lineup Sunday against the Dodgers.
Insight: Prado got off to a 3-for-25 (.120) start, but he has gone 12-for-31 (.387) with two doubles over his last eight games.
Miguel Montero, C4/13/2014 3:51:00 PM
Description: Arizona catcher Miguel Montero will get a day off Sunday.
Insight: Tuffy Gosewisch is catching Trevor Cahill. Montero is hitting .234 with one homer and five RBI after a down year in 2013 (.230, 11 HR, 42 RBI). He hit .283 with an .817 OPS and an average of 14 homers per season from 2009-12.
Archie Bradley, SP4/11/2014 2:21:00 PM
Description: Diamondbacks top pitching prospect Archie Bradley (RHP) had a strong first outing for Reno, going five innings without yielding a run on four hits.
Insight: Bradley, MLB.com's No. 5 prospect in baseball, had a 1.84 ERA in 152 innings last season (123 1/3 at Double-A, 28 2/3 at Single-A Advanced). He should be up right after the super-two date and fantasy owners should be prepared to jump on this talented right-hander.
Paul Goldschmidt, 1BHot4/11/2014 10:17:00 AM
Description: Diamondbacks first baseman Paul Goldschmidt is a career .500 hitter (8-for-16) versus Dodgers starter Hyun-Jin Ryu.
Insight: It's not quite as good as his numbers against Giants right-hander Tim Lincecum, but its still pretty nice. He's a must start.
Aaron Hill, 2B4/10/2014 10:17:00 AM
Description: D'Backs second baseman Aaron Hill is a must start on Thursday against Giants starter Ryan Vogelsong.
Insight: Hill is 9-for-16 (.563) with a 1.424 OPS in their matchups. Hill didn't start on Wednesday, but did knock out a pinch-hit single in the sixth inning.
Josh Collmenter, SP4/9/2014 9:13:00 PM
Description: According to Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic, the Diamondbacks are preparing Josh Collmenter to move into the rotation.
Insight: D'Backs manager Kirk Gibson mentioned Trevor Cahill and Randall Delgado as possibilities to move to the bullpen, though he said both will make their next scheduled starts. Collmenter is 13-12 with a 4.03 ERA, a 1.16 WHIP and 137 Ks in 196 2/3 career innings as a starter, compared to 7-6 with a 2.56 ERA, a 1.17 WHIP and 129 Ks in 144 innings in relief. Eventually, prospect Archie Bradley will take that available spot in the Arizona rotation, so Collmenter is only an option in NL-only leagues.
Trevor Cahill, SPCold4/8/2014 8:05:00 PM
Description: Arizona starter Trevor Cahill allowed five earned runs for the second time in three starts Tuesday at San Francisco.
Insight: Cahill has allowed 20 hits, walked eight and given up 12 earned runs in 13 2/3 innings this season. He's scheduled to face the Dodgers his next time on the hill.
Mark Trumbo, LFHot4/6/2014 7:51:00 PM
Description: Arizona left fielder Mark Trumbo belted his league-leading fifth homer Sunday against Colorado.
Insight: He's homered in four straight games for the D-Backs. Through nine games, the former Angel is on pace for 234 RBI this season.
Cody Ross, LF4/6/2014 10:41:00 AM
Description: According to the Arizona Republic, Diamondbacks outfielder Cody Ross (hip) is 7-10 days away from returning.
Insight: Ross is currently on a rehab assignment in Triple-A Reno. "He's been swinging the bat well all spring," GM Kevin Towers said. "The key thing for him is how he feels when he goes out there and has to play on back-to-back days, nine innings in the outfield." Mark Trumbo plays every day in left field, so Ross, Gerardo Parra and A.J. Pollock will have to split up starts at the other two outfield spots.
Martin Prado, 3B4/5/2014 4:43:00 PM
Description: Diamondbacks third baseman Martin Prado left Friday's game with a lacerated left index finger but he's in the lineup Saturday, according to Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic.
Insight: Prado is off to a 4-for-28 (.143) start. The utilityman hit just .238 with five home runs and a .623 OPS in his first 73 games last season, but he batted .322 with nine homers and an .862 OPS over his last 82 games.
Paul Goldschmidt, 1B4/4/2014 9:54:00 PM
Description: Diamondbacks first baseman Paul Goldschmidt extended his hitting streak to 26 straight games Friday in a loss to Colorado.
Insight: That's the longest active hitting streak in the major leagues. Goldschmidt (.414, 1 HR, 4 RBI) is four games away from tying Luis Gonzalez for the longest streak in team history.
Martin Prado, 3B4/4/2014 9:46:00 AM
Description: Diamondbacks third baseman Martin Prado is just 1-for-11 (.091) versus Rockies starter Juan Nicasio.
Insight: Prado is a fantasy favorite because of his versatility. He's eligible at 2B, 3B and outfield. At some point, however, he'll be dropped as the team's cleanup hitter for someone who can provide more protection for 1B Paul Goldschmidt. For now he's in a great spot, but should not be started on Friday in this unfavorable matchup.
Miguel Montero, C4/3/2014 1:26:00 PM
Description: Arizona catcher Miguel Montero will get the afternoon off, just like his oppostite number, Buster Posey.
Insight: Normal day game after a night game stuff. He's been batting fifth in the Diamondbacks lineup with powerful Mark Trumbo behind him which should help him to approach his career RBI numbers this season.
Paul Goldschmidt, 1B4/3/2014 9:52:00 AM
Description: Arizona first baseman Paul Goldschmidt loves facing Giants starter Tim Lincecum.
Insight: He's a career .500 hitter with five homers and 11 RBI in just 20 at-bats. Goldy is batting .409 through his first five games.
Gerardo Parra, RF3/31/2014 2:24:00 PM
Description: Arizona right fielder Gerardo Parra doesn't belong in any fantasy lineups Monday against the Giants.
Insight: That's because he only has one hit in 14 career at bats against Madison Bumgarner. With just 33 HR in 2,258 career at bats, Parra doesn't offer much in the way of fantasy value.
Miguel Montero, C3/31/2014 2:20:00 PM
Description: Arizona catcher Miguel Montero is still trying to figure out how to hit against Giants lefty Madison Bumgarner.
Insight: Montero owns a .185 career average versus Bumgarner. He came away with two hits during the team's trip to Australia last weekend.
Randall Delgado, SP3/30/2014 10:30:00 PM
Description: Randall Delgado will serve as Arizona's fifth starter to begin the season.
Insight: Patrick Corbin's season-ending elbow injury helped Delgado win the spot behind Wade Miley, Trevor Cahill, Brandon McCarthy and Bronson Arroyo. Delgado will need to pitch well to keep top prospect Archie Bradley from taking his job. He had a strong 1.78 BB/9 and a 1.19 WHIP last year but gave up 1.86 HR/9 and had a 4.26 ERA. He doesn't have much mixed league value.
Didi Gregorius, SS3/30/2014 3:06:00 AM
Description: D'Backs infielder Didi Gregorius is heading to the minors after losing the shortstop battle to Chris Owings.
Insight: Owings is the better hitter and it's possible the Diamondbacks will seek to trade Gregorious at this point. Gregorius went 0-for-4 during the team's recent trip to Australia.
David Hernandez, RP3/28/2014 12:44:00 PM
Description: Diamondbacks RP David Hernandez has a torn ulnar collateral ligament, according to Ken Rosenthal.
Insight: He'll see another doctor, but Tommy John surgery is on the horizon. Hernandez has saved 19 games over the past four seasons, but his value is mostly as a middle reliever and set-up guy.
Archie Bradley, SP3/27/2014 5:43:00 PM
Description: The Diamondbacks assigned top prospect Archie Bradley (RHP) to the minors on Thursday, according to Zach Buchanan of azcentral.com.
Insight: Bradley, MLB.com's No. 5 prospect in baseball, had a 4.32 ERA in 8 1/3 innings this spring and should be up sooner than the team intended due to Patrick Corbin's season-ending elbow injury. The flamethrower had a 1.84 ERA in 152 innings last season (123 1/3 at Double-A, 28 2/3 at Single-A Advanced) and will try to master Triple-A for a month or so.
Patrick Corbin, SP3/25/2014 6:55:00 PM
Description: D'Backs starter Patrick Corbin had Tommy John surgery on Tuesday. SOURCE: Steve Gilber, MLB.com
Insight: Obviously, he's done for the year. Corbin is still only 24 so this operation, though serious, shouldn't have too big an impact on his long term future. Wade Miley started in Corbin's place Saturday in the season opener.
Chris Owings, SS3/24/2014 2:08:00 PM
Description: The Diamondbacks appear to be shopping Didi Gregorius which would make Chris Owings the winner of the shortstop competition.
Insight: In Australia, each player got one start and came up hitless, but Owings seems to have more offensive ability than Gregorius.
Mark Trumbo, LF3/23/2014 10:29:00 AM
Description: Diamondbacks left fielder Mark Trumbo hit his first home run with the team Saturday against the Dodgers.
Insight: The D'Backs acquired Trumbo from the Angels this offseason after he averaged .251, 32 homers, 94 RBI and 152 strikeouts the previous three years. He should challenge the 40-homer mark due to Chase Field's favorable conditions.
Trevor Cahill, SPCold3/23/2014 10:26:00 AM
Description: Arizona starter Trevor Cahill gave up five earned runs, allowed eight hits, walked four and struck out just one over four innings Saturday against the Dodgers.
Insight: Cahill has posted an ERA between 3.78 and 4.16 in each of the last three seasons, but he walks a lot of batters, leading to a high WHIP (career 1.33), and doesn't strike out many (career 5.9 K/9).
Martin Prado, 3B3/22/2014 9:53:00 AM
Description: Diamondbacks third baseman Martin Prado batted cleanup in the season opener between Paul Goldschmidt and Mark Trumbo.
Insight: He went 0-for-4. I would not expect that to continue. Trumbo or Miguel Montero would be better options and provide more protection for fantasy MVP candidate Goldschmidt.
Patrick Corbin, SP3/16/2014 3:22:00 PM
Description: Patrick Corbin's MRI revealed UCL damage in his left elbow. It sounds like he's going to need Tommy John surgery. SOURCE: Nick Piecoro, AZCentral.com
Insight: If Corbin decides to undergo surgery, he'll miss the rest of the 2014 season and possibly part of next season as well. It's a massive blow to Arizona's playoff chances as Corbin (14-8, 3.41 ERA) was one of the best pitchers in the National League next season. Wade Miley has been informed that he'll be making the trip to Australia next week to pitch in Corbin's place.
Patrick Corbin, SP3/15/2014 7:28:00 PM
Description: Arizona Opening Day starter Patrick Corbin exited Saturday's spring training game mid at bat because of forearm stiffness. SOURCE: Jack Magruder, Fox Sports Arizona
Insight: Uh oh. That puts Corbin in doubt for next week's series in Australia. If he can't go, Wade Miley (10-10, 3.55 ERA) would likely get the Opening Day nod.
Trevor Cahill, SP3/13/2014 5:09:00 PM
Description: Arizona starter Trevor Cahill (knee) threw a bullpen session Thursday, just two days after suffering a jammed right knee, according to Steve Gilbert of mlb.com.
Insight: Cahill hurt himself while trying to avoid Cleveland's Jason Kipnis at first base during Tuesday's Cactus League start, but he should be fine. He went 8-10 with a 3.99 ERA, a 1.42 WHIP and 102 strikeouts in 146 2/3 innings last season and is a below-average fantasy option.

Description: Arizona starter Trevor Cahill suffered a jammed right knee Tuesday and is day-to-day, according to Steve Gilbert of MLB.com.

Trevor Cahill, SP3/11/2014 6:03:00 PM

Insight: Cahill hurt himself while trying to avoid Cleveland's Jason Kipnis at first base. He went 8-10 with a 3.99 ERA, a 1.42 WHIP and 102 strikeouts in 146 2/3 innings last season and is a below-average fantasy option.
Bronson Arroyo, SP3/9/2014 2:50:00 PM
Description: Diamondbacks starter Bronson Arroyo (back) didn't feel good playing catch Saturday but feels much better Sunday, according to Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic. He's hoping to pitch in a Cactus League game Friday.
Insight: This is new territory for Arroyo (14-12, 3.79 ERA for Cincinnati in 2013), who has never gone on the disabled list at any point in his 14 seasons in the league. The 37-year-old had an epidural last week for the bulging disc in his back.

Insight: This is new territory for Arroyo (14-12, 3.79 ERA for Cincinnati in 2013), who has never gone on the disabled list at any point in his 14 seasons in the league. He's still on track to make his first start of the regular season but fantasy owners should definitely keep an eye on his progress.
Paul Goldschmidt, 1B3/7/2014 3:13:00 PM
Description: Arizona first baseman Paul Goldschmidt has missed the past two spring training games due to "leg stiffness," according to beat writer Nick Piecoro.
Insight: We're talking about a guy who will cost you a top-five pick on draft day after batting .302 last season with 36 HR, 126 RBI and 15 steals., so we would like him to start the season healthy. It doesn't appear to be serious, but it's worth watching.
Bronson Arroyo, SP3/4/2014 5:44:00 PM
Description: Diamondbacks starter Bronson Arroyo was scratched Tuesday due to back stiffness, according to the Arizona Republic.
Insight: It probably isn't serious, but it is a reminder that Arroyo is now 37 years old. The right-hander has thrown 199 or more innings in nine straight seasons and posted an ERA from 3.74-3.88 in four of the last five.
Cody Ross, LF3/3/2014 9:19:00 PM
Description: Diamondbacks outfielder Cody Ross (hip) ran the bases Monday for the first time since he suffered a fractured and dislocated hip last August, according to mlb.com. He ran at 60-70 percent.
Insight: Ross will make his Cactus League debut on March 13, barring a setback. He'll begin simulated games Tuesday afternoon. Ross hit .278 with just eight homers in 94 games after blasting 22 homers, driving in 81 runs and putting up an .807 OPS in 130 games with Boston the year before. He's not worth a roster spot in most leagues.
Cody Ross, LF2/27/2014 8:55:00 PM
Description: Diamondbacks outfielder Cody Ross (hip) will make his Cactus League debut on March 13, barring a setback, according to Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic.
Insight: Ross dislocated his hip last August and had to undergo surgery. He hit .278 with just eight homers in 94 games after blasting 22 homers, driving in 81 runs and putting up an .807 OPS in 130 games with Boston the year before. He's not worth a roster spot in most leagues.
Didi Gregorius, SS2/10/2014 9:10:00 PM
Description: D'Backs infielder Didi Gregorius heads into spring training as the favorite to start at shortstop this season. SOURCE: Diamondbacks.com
Insight: Chris Owings will also be vying for the shortstop job, though Gregorius has more big league experience (111 games compared to just 20 for Owings). Gregorius wasn't anything spectacular last season (.252, 7 HR, 28 RBI in 103 games) but he's still only 23. He'll be worth monitoring throughout the season.
Bronson Arroyo, SP2/7/2014 8:02:00 PM
Description: Starting pitcher Bronson Arroyo has decided to join the Diamondbacks. SOURCE: Ken Rosenthal, Fox Sports
Insight: His new deal will pay him $19 million over the next two seasons. While superstardom has eluded Arroyo, consistency hasn't. The lanky righthander has posted an ERA under 3.90 four of the last five seasons. He'll be worth owning in most leagues.
J.J. Putz, RP1/5/2014 10:16:00 PM
Description: Arizona is looking to trade righthanded reliever J.J. Putz. SOURCE: Fox Sports
Insight: Putz became expendable when the D'Backs acquired Addison Reed from the White Sox last month. The 36-year-old went 3-1 last season with six saves and a 2.36 ERA. Putz was an All-Star when he saved 40 games for the Mariners back in 2007.
Brad Ziegler, RP12/23/2013 4:09:00 PM
Description: The Diamondbacks inked closer Brad Ziegler to a two-year extension on Friday. SOURCE: Ken Rosenthal, Fox Sports
Insight: He'll earn $4.5 million next season and another $5 million the following year. The deal includes a $5.5 million club option for 2016. Ziegler opened the year as a setup man but eventually became the team's closer when Heath Bell struggled. If Ziegler stays healthy, he should be good for 30+ saves in 2014.
Eric Chavez, 3B12/18/2013 4:33:00 PM
Description: The Diamondbacks were able to re-sign third baseman Eric Chavez on Wednesday. SOURCE: Jon Heyman, CBS Sports
Insight: It's believed to be a one-year deal though terms of the contract haven't been released yet. Chavez was a trendy pick in fantasy leagues last season after batting .303 in the first half, though he only managed to hit .241 the rest of the way. We'd expect some regression in 2014.
Addison Reed, RP12/16/2013 2:55:00 PM
Description: Closer Addison Reed has been traded from the White Sox to Arizona for 3B Matt Davidson.
Insight: Reed (3.79 ERA, 1.107 WHIP, 40 SV) should be a solid fantasy contributor for the NL West contending Diamondbacks. The D'Backs didn't need Davidson with Martin Prado set to play the hot corner.
Daniel Hudson, SP12/13/2013 9:07:00 PM
Description: Righthander Daniel Hudson will stay with the Diamondbacks. SOURCE: Jerry Crasnick, ESPN
Insight: They brought him back on a minor league deal. He's coming off Tommy John surgery and may not pitch next season. Hudson had his best year in 2011, going 16-12 with a 3.49 ERA in 33 starts.
Mark Trumbo, LF12/10/2013 8:46:00 PM
Description: The Diamondbacks acquired outfielder Mark Trumbo from the Angels on Tuesday.
Insight: Trumbo was the center piece of a three-team trade that saw the Angels get lefthanded starter Hector Santiago as well as top pitching prospect Tyler Skaggs. The White Sox received outfielder Adam Eaton as part of the swap. Trumbo hit just .234 last season and he could be a liability defensively. He's got great power though (34 HR, 100 RBI in 2013) and playing at hitter-friendly Chase Field should help his numbers.
Archie Bradley, SP11/12/2013 9:30:00 PM
Description: Diamondbacks GM Kevin Towers said that pitching prospect Archie Bradley will come to spring training with a chance to make the 2014 rotation, according to Jon Morosi of foxsports.com.
Insight: Towers also said that Bradley will be able to throw at least 170 innings next season. The 21-year-old was selected seventh overall in the 2011 draft and went 14-5 with a 1.84 ERA and 162 strikeouts in 152 innings at two minor league stops last season. MLB.com ranks him as the seventh best prospect in the game.
Miguel Montero, C10/7/2013 8:53:00 PM
Description: D'Backs catcher Miguel Montero had surgery on his finger over the weekend. SOURCE: Diamondbacks.com
Insight: He had an infection in his left index finger. Montero had a bit of a down season in 2013 with just 11 HR and a .230 batting average in 116 games. He'll be back in plenty of time for Spring Training.
Aaron Hill, 2B9/29/2013 10:52:00 AM
Description: D'Backs second baseman Aaron Hill won't need offseason surgery on his injured hand. SOURCE: Arizona Republic
Insight: Hill returned from a broken hand several months ago but admitted that it never fully healed. All things considered, Hill hasn't had a bad season (.293, 11 HR, 41 RBI in 86 appearances).
Aaron Hill, 2B9/28/2013 11:02:00 AM
Description: Diamondbacks second baseman Aaron Hill has a .318 average with four extra-base hits in 22 at-bats against Washington's Dan Haren, Saturday's scheduled starter.
Insight: After missing more than two months due to a broken hand, Hill has hit .292 with nine homers, 35 RBI, 40 runs and an .806 OPS in 76 games since returning from the disabled list.
Patrick Corbin, SP9/28/2013 9:59:00 AM
Description: Diamondbacks starter Patrick Corbin's ERA rose nearly a run in his last seven starts of the year.
Insight: Corbin was 13-3 with a 2.45 ERA on Aug. 20 but he imploded down the stretch, going 1-5 with an 8.00 ERA and a 1.86 WHIP in his final 36 innings to finish 14-8 with a 3.41 ERA.
Paul Goldschmidt, 1BHot9/26/2013 12:29:00 PM
Description: Arizona first baseman Paul Goldschmidt has hit safely in 15 straight games.
Insight: He has hit .417 with seven doubles, a triple, five homers, 17 RBI, 12 runs and two steals during the streak. With a .303 average, 36 home runs, 124 RBI, 102 runs, 15 steals and a .963 OPS, Goldschmidt is one of the NL's leading candidates for MVP.
