Texas Rangers Player Notes
For The Last 365 Days

Nick Martinez, SP4/26/2015 6:05:00 PM
Description: Rangers pitcher Nick Martinez pitched well but took a no-decision Sunday against the Angels.
Insight: Martinez tossed six innings and allowed no runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out two, however Anthony Bass gave up a two-run homer to Mike Trout in the seventh. Martinez is 2-0 with a 0.35 ERA.
Elvis Andrus, SS4/26/2015 9:24:00 AM
Description: Rangers shortstop Elvis Andrus had two hits and a stolen base in the loss to the Angels on Saturday.
Insight: Andrus was the only Rangers hitter with two hits. Andrus is off to a slow start to the season, however, hitting .208 with one homer, six RBI, six runs and three steals.
Prince Fielder, 1B4/25/2015 11:22:00 AM
Description: Rangers first baseman Prince Fielder is 6-for-12 with a home run versus Angels left-hander C.J. Wilson.
Insight: Fielder is hitting .375 with a home run and 10 RBI this season. It's a solid combination of a hot hitter, a favorable matchup and the wind blowing out to right field tonight. Start him.
Mitch Moreland, 1B4/24/2015 7:43:00 PM
Description: Texas first baseman Mitch Moreland (elbow) will return to the lineup on Friday night.
Insight: He is starting at first base and hitting second, while Prince Fielder is serving as the DH.
Prince Fielder, 1B4/22/2015 9:42:00 AM
Description: Rangers first baseman Prince Fielder was 2-for-5 with a home run, three RBI and run scored in the, 7-1, victory over the Diamondbacks on Tuesday.
Insight: Fielder had a ground rule double in the first inning and then hit a two-run homer in the eighth. It was Fielder's first home run of the season. He is also hitting .386 with nine RBI this season.
Prince Fielder, 1B4/19/2015 9:26:00 PM
Description: Rangers first baseman Prince Fielder was 2-for-5 with an RBI-single in the heartbreaking loss to the Mariners on Sunday.
Insight: Texas led Seattle, 10-5, in the sixth, but Seattle chipped away at that lead each inning and capped off the comeback victory with a walkoff homer from Nelson Cruz. Fielder is hitting well to start 2015, but he hasn't hit a home run yet in 52 at-bats.
Colby Lewis, SP4/19/2015 9:00:00 AM
Description: Rangers starter Colby Lewis took the loss Saturday against the Mariners.
Insight: Lewis allowed three runs on 10 hits and two walks, while striking out two over 5 2/3 innings of work. He is 1-1 with a 3.79 ERA.
Prince Fielder, 1B4/18/2015 10:37:00 AM
Description: Rangers first baseman Prince Fielder is hitless in 11 at-bats against Felix Hernandez.
Insight: There are probably plenty of players in the same situation versus the Seattle ace, but that doesn't help. Despite Fielder's .419 batting average you should probably avoid this matchup.
Mitch Moreland, 1B4/18/2015 9:55:00 AM
Description: Texas first baseman Mitch Moreland could need minor elbow surgery, according to TR Sullivan of mlb.com.
Insight: If true he'd likely miss 2-3 weeks. Moreland can't stay healthy enough for fantasy owners and Rangers fans to see what he can do with a season's worth of at-bats. He played just 52 games last season.
Prince Fielder, 1B4/15/2015 5:48:00 PM
Description: Rangers first baseman Prince Fielder was 1-for-3 in the, 10-2, loss to the Angels on Wednesday.
Insight: Fielder is off to a good start, which is great news considering he is returning from nck surgery. He is hitting .400 with four RBI in nine games although he has yet to hit a home run.
Adrian Beltre, 3B4/15/2015 11:45:00 AM
Description: Rangers third baseman Adrian Beltre is 6-for-15 lifetime against opposing starter Hector Santiago.
Insight: Three of those six hits are homers, making Beltre a nice option for Wednesday's game against the Angels.
Shin-Soo Choo, LF4/13/2015 4:54:00 PM
Description: Rangers outfielder Shin-Soo Choo is back in the lineup Monday.
Insight: He missed a couple of games with a back injury, but is ready to return.
Shin-Soo Choo, LF4/12/2015 12:39:00 PM
Description: Rangers outfielder Shin-Soo Choo will not play on Sunday according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
Insight: This will be the second straight game Choo misses since he left Friday's game with back spasms. Choo should be considered day-to-day.
Adrian Beltre, 3B4/12/2015 9:28:00 AM
Description: Rangers third baseman Adrian Beltre went 2-for-5 with a run scored in the, 6-2, victory over the Astros on Saturday.
Insight: Beltre scored the first run of the game on a throwing error after he reached third base on a triple. Hopefully this game gets Beltre going. He is hitting just .200 to begin the season.
Ryan Rua, 1B4/11/2015 10:33:00 AM
Description: Rangers OF/1B Ryan Rua is expected to be placed on the 15-day disabled list due to a sprained right ankle.
Insight: With Shin-Soo Choo also hurting the Rangers may have to make a call to the minors.
Shin-Soo Choo, LF4/11/2015 10:30:00 AM
Description: Rangers outfielder Shin-Soo Choo left Friday's game and is doubtful for Saturday's game against Houston due to upper back spasms.
Insight: he dealt with a triceps injury in spring training and now this. So far, Choo has been a bust in his time with Texas. Jake Smolinski would likely get the start of Choo can't go.
Derek Holland, SP4/10/2015 9:08:00 PM
Description: Rangers left-hander Derek Holland (shoulder) will be shut down for the next four-to-six weeks.
Insight: This is awful news. Holland left Friday's start with tightness, and it ended up being a significant strain. It is unclear who will be called up to replace him.
Prince Fielder, 1B4/10/2015 8:32:00 PM
Description: Rangers first baseman Prince Fielder whad a three-hit day Friday versus Houston.
Insight: He went 3-for-4 with a double. Fielder has a .421/.476/.526 line on the young season.
Derek Holland, SP4/10/2015 4:56:00 PM
Description: Rangers left-hander Derek Holland left Friday's game with tightness in his left shoulder.
Insight: This is not good news because Holland had been dealing with shoulder issues during spring training. He last ine inning and gave up one run on two hits.
Shin-Soo Choo, LF4/10/2015 4:54:00 PM
Description: Rangers outfielder Shin-Soo Choo left Friday's game with an undisclosed injury.
Insight: We suspect it could be his triceps, as Choo dealt with that at the end of training camp. Jake Smolinski took his place.
Adrian Beltre, 3B4/9/2015 6:08:00 PM
Description: Rangers third baseman Adrian Beltre went 2-for-5 Thursday versus Oakland.
Insight: He hit his first homer of the season and scored two runs. Beltre will be one of the top options at third base this season.
Shin-Soo Choo, LF4/9/2015 6:06:00 PM
Description: Rangers outfielder Shin-Soo Choo blasted his first homer of the season.
Insight: Choo went 2-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and the dinger. Choo is hitting .250 through three games.
Elvis Andrus, SS4/9/2015 1:18:00 PM
Description: Rangers shortstop Elvis Andrus will be batting in the No. 7 hole on Thursday after batting second in the first two contests.
Insight: That's likely going to take a significant bite out of his fantasy value if it's a permanent move. Andrus has averaged .272 with 84 runs and 32 steals over the past six seasons, but batting seventh he probably wouldn't see 662 plate appearances as he has in the past.
Shin-Soo Choo, LF4/8/2015 12:00:00 PM
Description: Rangers outfielder Shin-Soo Choo has six hits in 16 at-bats against Athletics starter Scott Kazmir.
Insight: Choo also had a home run, three RBI and five walks in this matchup, so owners should start him as they usually would.
Prince Fielder, 1B4/8/2015 9:29:00 AM
Description: Rangers first baseman Prince Fielder was 2-for-3 with two RBI in the, 3-1, victory over the Athletics.
Insight: Fielder had an RBI-single in the third and then another RBI-single in the fifth. The second hit led to a third run when Oakland committed an error in the field, and that's the only runs Texas needed. The Sports Network expects Fielder to have a big bounce-back season and perhaps be a top-five option at first base.
Colby Lewis, SP4/8/2015 9:24:00 AM
Description: Rangers starter Colby Lewis had a solid first start to begin the 2015 season.
Insight: Lewis pitched six innings, allowing just one run on three hits, striking out four and walking two. The only run he gave up scored on the grounder in the sixth. Lewis is a decent option in deep leagues.
Keone Kela, RP4/4/2015 11:54:00 AM
Description: Rangers young right-hander Keone Kela has apparently made the opening day roster, according to beat writer T.R. Sullivan.
Insight: Kela has electric stuff, including a 97 mph fastball, and showed it this spring yielding just three hits and striking out 11 batters in 9 1/3 IP. He could be a closer down the road.
Elvis Andrus, SS3/31/2015 12:48:00 PM
Description: Rangers shortstop Elvis Andrus (back) will get back on the field Wednesday.
Insight: It never was considered serious. Andrus can supply fantasy owners with steals and runs, but his .647 OPS of a season ago isn't going to help much. He was also caught stealing a league-high 15 times so if your league uses net steals as a category, he's much less valuable.
Prince Fielder, 1B3/29/2015 10:05:00 AM
Description: Rangers first baseman Prince Fielder went 2-for-2 with an RBI on Saturday against the Padres.
Insight: Fielder had an RBI-single versus Ross, who had a great day on the hill besides allowing the single to Fielder. The first baseman is hitting .324 this spring and looks fine, having recovered from neck surgery in the offseason.
Yu Darvish, SP3/17/2015 4:26:00 PM
Description: Rangers pitcher Yu Darvish underwent successful Tommy John surgery.
Insight: To state the obvious, Darvish will be sidelined for the 2015 campaign. He will likely have a tough time be ready for the start of next season as well.
Shin-Soo Choo, LF3/14/2015 12:47:00 PM
Description: Rangers outfielder Shin-Soo Choo, after a disappointing first season in Texas, is not expected to be the team's primarly leadoff hitter.
Insight: It appears Leonys Martin will start the season at the top of the lineup, leaving Choo to likely bat fifth and serve as protection for Adrian Beltre. Choo batted just .242 with 13 HR, 40 RBI, 58 runs and a .714 OPS after posting much higher numbers in previous seasons with Cincinnati and Cleveland.
Leonys Martin, CF3/14/2015 12:44:00 PM
Description: Good news for Rangers center fielder Leonys Martin - he'll be the team's primary leadoff hitter, according to Evan grant of the Dallas Morning News.
Insight: Martin's fantasy value just took a jump after batting mostly at the bottom of the order (seventh and eighth) last season. If true, it also means Shin-Soo Choo is likely batting behind Adrian Beltre in the No. 5 hole.
Yu Darvish, SP3/13/2015 3:29:00 PM
Description: Rangers pitcher Yu Darvish will have Tommy John surgery on Tuesday, according to Texas beat writer TR Sullivan.
Insight: That would likely keep him sidelined until early in the 2016 season, so he's obviously not a target in any single-season leagues. The Rangers starting rotation is looking extremely questionable.
Derek Holland, SP3/12/2015 4:33:00 PM
Description: Rangers left-hander Derek Holland (shoulder) is scheduled to pitch an inning on Saturday.
Insight: It will be in a split-squad game, with Holland throwing in the "B" game. He was limited to just 37 innings last season, but should be ready to start the 2015 campaign.
Yu Darvish, SP3/11/2015 1:08:00 PM
Description: The Rangers have yet to decide on what to do with pitcher Yu Darvish according to USA Today.
Insight: Texas was supposed to announce their plans for Darvish, who has an elbow sprain, but the team is apparently still searching for options. Right now, all signs point to Darvish getting Tommy John surgery again. At the very least, he is a very risky selection in redraft leagues.
Prince Fielder, 1B3/8/2015 10:29:00 PM
Description: Rangers first baseman Prince Fielder was 1-for-3 with a home run and three RBI Sunday against the Indians.
Insight: Fielder is coming back from neck problems that led to season-ending surgery last season. Fielder is only 30 years old, so fantasy owners should not overlook him this season.
Yu Darvish, SP3/7/2015 12:09:00 PM
Description: Rangers pitcher Yu Darvish could need Tommy John surgery, according to Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News.
Insight: Darvish will be evaluated further, but this is devastating news to the Rangers and his fantasy owners. Darvish missed time in 2014 due to right elbow inflammation, but was 10-7 with a 3.06 ERA, 1.261 WHIP and 182 Ks in 144 1/3 IP.
Yu Darvish, SP3/5/2015 6:06:00 PM
Description: The Rangers pulled pitcher Yu Darvish from his Spring Training debut after one inning on Thursday due to right triceps tightness according to FOX Sports Southwest.
Insight: Darvish looked good in his one inning, ending the frame on a strikeout, but Texas didn't allow Darvish back out for a second inning. The team is not calling the injury serious, but doctors will reevaluate him on Friday. Darvish missed time in 2014 due to right elbow inflammation.
Elvis Andrus, SS3/2/2015 12:16:00 PM
Description: Rangers shortstop Elvis Andrus could get a few days of rest as he is dealing with minor soreness in his left knee.
Insight: It doesn't appear to be serious, but Andrus' speed and ability to score is his best fantasy asset, so its certainly worth following through spring training.
Derek Holland, SP3/2/2015 11:56:00 AM
Description: Rangers left-hander Derek Hollandhas pushed back his throwing schedule due to shoulder soreness.
Insight: It's probably just typical early spring pains, but from a pitcher returning from microfracture knee surgery you always worry. Holland made five starts last seasson going 2-0 with a 1.46 ERA and 1.054 WHIP.
Jurickson Profar, 2B2/23/2015 2:35:00 PM
Description: Rangers second baseman Jurickson Profar (shoulder surgery) will miss a second consecutive season.
Insight: Profar surgery comes with a nine month recovery time. Once a top prospect, Profar's baseball future is in doubt.
Alex Rios, RF10/15/2014 10:06:00 AM
Description: CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports the Rangers will decline right fielder Alex Rios' $13.5 million option for 2015.
Insight: This was expected. Rios will receive $1 million in a buyout and become a free agent. Rios hit .280/.311/.398 with four home runs in 131 games this year. He missed most of September with a thumb injury.
Alex Rios, RF10/8/2014 6:55:00 PM
Description: The Rangers are expected to decline outfielder Alex Rios' $13.5 million club option for 2015 according to Chris Cotillo of MLB Daily Dish.
Insight: Rios hit .280/.311/.398 with four home runs in 131 games this year. He missed most of September with a thumb injury. Texas can buy out his 2015 option for $1 million.
Geovany Soto, C9/30/2014 9:07:00 PM
Description: Athletics catcher Geovany Soto left Tuesday's Wild Card game with a left thumb injury.
Insight: Soto suffered the injury on a tag at the plate in the first inning. He remained in the game one more inning, but told the coaching staff that he could no longer receive the ball behind the plate. Derek Norris takes over at catcher for the rest of the game.
Nick Martinez, SP9/28/2014 6:20:00 PM
Description: Rangers pitcher Nick Martinez allowed two runs over five 2/3 innings in Sunday's loss to the Athletics.
Insight: Martinez tossed up four hits, did not walk a batter and struck out two. Unfortunately, Martinez ran into Sonny Gray, who pitched a complete-game shutout for the Athletics. Gray finishes the year 5-12 with 4.55 ERA in 140 1/3 innings this year.
Scott Baker, SP9/28/2014 9:37:00 AM
Description: Rangers RHP Scott Baker allowed two earned runs in four innings of a spot start against the Athletics on Saturday.
Insight: The Rangers scratched Derek Holland right before the game due to a migraine. Baker pretty very well on the short notice. He finishes the year with a 5.47 ERA in seven starts and 18 relief appearances.
Neftali Feliz, RP9/28/2014 9:10:00 AM
Description: Rangers reliever Neftali Feliz saved his 13th game of the season on Saturday as Texas defeated Oakland, 5-4.
Insight: Feliz did allow two base runners, but catcher Robinson Chirinos threw the first one out who was trying to steal second and Feliz stranded the second one at first base. Feliz has saved 13 out of 14 of his opportunities and has a 1.99 ERA in 31 2/3 innings this year.
Prince Fielder, 1B9/24/2014 12:40:00 PM
Description: Rangers first baseman Prince Fielder (neck surgery in May) has begun to swing a bat, according to a Fort Worth Star-Telegram report.
Insight: He's also begun lifting weights. Barring any setbacks he should be 100 percent ready to go next spring.
Derek Holland, SP9/22/2014 11:13:00 PM
Description: Rangers starter Derek Holland pitched seven innings, allowed three runs, two earned, on seven hits, struck out two and walked one to beat the Astros, 4-3, on Monday.
Insight: Holland has made five starts this year, all this month, and is 2-0 with a 1.31 ERA. The two earned runs on Monday were the most he has allowed this season.
Adrian Beltre, 3B9/21/2014 9:14:00 AM
Description: Rangers third baseman Adrian Beltre has another big night.
Insight: Texas has the worst record in baseball, however that is no fault of Beltre's. He continued his strong play, going 3-for-4 with all three hits being doubles, along with two RBI. He now is hitting .327 with 18 homers and 75 RBI. Beltre will be an early round pick in 2015.
Colby Lewis, SP9/21/2014 9:11:00 AM
Description: Rangers starter Colby Lewis was knocked around by the Angels on Saturday.
Insight: He suffered the loss by allowing seven earned runs (8 total runs) over five innings of work. Lewis is having a season to forget, as he now stands at 10-14 with a 5.34 ERA.
Adrian Beltre, 3B9/19/2014 2:33:00 PM
Description: Rangers third baseman Adrian Beltre is a career .429 (6-for-14) with three home runs against Angels left-hander Hector Santiago.
Insight: Beltre is having another tremendous season, batting .322 with 18 home runs, 71 RBI and 77 runs.
Elvis Andrus, SS9/18/2014 7:01:00 PM
Description: Rangers shortstop Elvis Andrus went 2-for-5 with a RBI against the Athletics on Thursday.
Insight: Despite the poor matchup, Andrus came into the day hitting .167 against Athletics pitcher Sonny Gray, the shortstop had two singles and drove in center fielder Leonys Martin in the sixth. Andrus is batting .264 with two home runs and 38 RBI this year.
Jake Smolinski, LF9/18/2014 6:53:00 PM
Description: Texas outfielder Jake Smolinski went 4-for-5 with a RBI and run against Oakland on Thursday.
Insight: The 25-year-old has played in just 14 games this season, but has hits in his last five big league starts, which go all the way back to July 20. Smolinski has started the past three days and is 6-for-13 with a home run, three RBI and three runs.
Elvis Andrus, SS9/18/2014 1:50:00 PM
Description: Rangers shortstop Elvis Andrus is a career .167 (2-for-12) hitter against Athletics pitcher Sonny Gray.
Insight: Andrus went 2-for-5 on Wednesday against the A's and is 5-for-17 (.294) in his last three games, but overall, the shortstop has been disappointing this year. He is hitting .263 with 70 runs and 26 stolen bases. The average and runs are career lows.
Alex Rios, RF9/16/2014 11:19:00 PM
Description: The Rangers are unsure when outfielder Alex Rios (thumb) will be ready to return to the lineup according to MLB.com
Insight: Rios hasn't played since Sept. 4 due to a nagging right thumb injury. He did travel with the team to Oakland this week, but it is possible he doesn't play again this year. He is hitting .280 with 42 extra-base hits and 54 RBI in 492 at-bats this year.
Shin-Soo Choo, LF9/16/2014 6:10:00 PM
Description: Rangers left fielder Shin-Soo Choo is scheduled to undergo arthroscopic surgery Wednesday on his left ankle.
Insight: Choo will be shut down from running for six to eight weeks. This is on top of the surgery he had in late August for bone spurs in his left elbow. Choo had his worst season as a pro, batting .242/.340/.374 with 13 home runs and four stolen bases in 123 games. He is still signed for the next six years.
Geovany Soto, C9/13/2014 9:04:00 PM
Description: Athletics catcher Geovany Soto told reporters on Saturday that his back is already feeling a bit better according to the San Francisco Chronicle.
Insight: Soto left Friday's game against the Mariners with back spasms and is not in the lineup on Saturday. He might get an extra day of rest on Sunday, but Soto should be good to go on Monday.
Elvis Andrus, SS9/13/2014 3:46:00 PM
Description: Rangers shortstop Elvis Andrus was 1-for-3 with a run, RBI and stolen base against the Braves on Saturday.
Insight: All three of the Rangers runs on Saturday against Braves ace Julio Teheran were unearned. Andrus is hitting .262/.316/.333 with 69 runs and 26 stolen bases this season.
Leonys Martin, CF9/10/2014 10:07:00 AM
Description: Angels starter Matt Shoemaker has pitched well this season, but one guy he hasn't figured how to get out is Rangers center fielder Leonys Martin.
Insight: Martin is 5-for-7 (.714) with a pair of doubles against Shoemaker. Martin should post a second consecutive 30-plus stolen base season and is batting a respectable .279, but until he bats higher in the lineup his runs and RBI totals will fall a bit short.
Derek Holland, SP9/8/2014 11:15:00 AM
Description: Rangers pitcher Derek Holland pitched seven shutout innings on Sunday to capture his first victory of the season.
Insight: Holland returned from knee surgery on Sept. 2. In two starts, he has given up one run in 14 innings. He also has 11 strikeouts and no walks. Next up is the Braves. If you need pitching help, Holland can definitely supply some.
Ryan Rua, 1B9/7/2014 9:55:00 AM
Description: Rangers first baseman Ryan Rua went 3-for-4 with an RBI double against the Mariners on Saturday.
Insight: Rua has played consistenly since he was called up from the minors on Aug. 29, and this is his best game so far. He is hitting .257/.297/.286 in 35 at-bats in that time frame, and the double on Saturday was his first extra-base hit. He should be an everday player down the stretch, but he still probably only has fantasy value in very deep leagues or AL-only leagues.
Yu Darvish, SP9/6/2014 5:42:00 PM
Description: Rangers starter Yu Darvish (elbow) will not pitch again this season.
Insight: Darvish has been out since Aug. 13 with right elbow inflammation. With everyone including Ron Washigton, who resigned as manager on Friday, packing it in for the season, there is no reason to rush back Darvish this month. He was 10-7 with a 3.06 ERA and 186 strikeouts in 144 1/3 innings this year. He should be a fantasy ace again in 2015.
Adrian Beltre, 3B9/5/2014 11:36:00 AM
Description: Rangers third baseman Adrian Beltre is a career .357 (10-for-28) against Mariners right-hander Hisashi Iwakuma.
Insight: Beltre is one of the few hitters who is successful versus Iwakuma, who owns a career .232 batting average against mark. Beltre is having another tremendous season, batting .323 with 17 home runs, 27 doubles, 69 RBI and 68 runs.
Derek Holland, SP9/2/2014 11:31:00 PM
Description: Rangers pitcher Derek Holland pitched seven strong innings in his season debut Tuesday, allowing one run to the Royals in a no-decision.
Insight: Chances are fantasy owners did not keep a roster spot dedicated to Holland to this point and owners likely took the wait-and-see approach last week before picking him up for this start, so he is probably available in a lot of leagues. If you need pitching help, you could do worse.
Elvis Andrus, SS9/2/2014 10:16:00 AM
Description: Rangers shortstop Elvis Andrus is a career .409 hitter (9-for-22) against Royals starter Jeremy Guthrie.
Insight: Andrus helps fantasy owners by scoring runs and stealing bases and getting on base is the first requirement for both which he does against Guthrie making him a solid play Tuesday.
Alex Rios, RF8/31/2014 9:41:00 PM
Description: Rangers right fielder Alex Rios went 2-for-3 with a double, RBI and run against the Astros on Sunday.
Insight: Rios is really the only worthy start in the Rangers lineup. He is batting .280 with 41 extra-base hits, 53 RBI and 54 runs this year.
Derek Holland, SP8/30/2014 4:47:00 PM
Description: The Rangers have activated pitcher Derek Holland from the 60-day disabled list.
Insight: Holland has missed the first five months of the season after undergoing knee sugery. He will return to the starting rotation on Tuesday against the Royals, but he did not pitch well in his rehab assignment, so we wouldn't insert him in your rotation right away.
Adrian Beltre, 3B8/30/2014 11:59:00 AM
Description: Rangers third baseman Adrian Beltre is a career .222 (6-for-27) against Astros pitcher Scott Feldman.
Insight: Beltre has six hits in his last 16 at-bats, but for some reason, he does not see the ball well off Feldman. Despite the terrible season overall in Texas, Beltre is having another tremendous season, batting .327 with 17 home runs, 26 doubles, 68 RBI and 68 runs.
Elvis Andrus, SS8/29/2014 10:32:00 AM
Description: Rangers shortstop Elvis Andrus is a career .000 hitter in nine at-bats against Astros starter Brett Oberholtzer.
Insight: Andrus helps fantasy owners by scoring runs and stealing bases and getting on base is the first requirement for both. Since he can't find his way to first base, avoid him Friday.
Alex Rios, RF8/28/2014 4:53:00 PM
Description: Rangers right fielder Alex Rios (thumb) has been downgraded to out for Thursday's game against Houston.
Insight: Rios has been dealing with a lingering right thumb injury. He's batting .281 with four homers, 52 RBI, 51 runs and 16 SB, but much more was expect from him after last season's production.
Alex Rios, RF8/28/2014 11:08:00 AM
Description: Rangers right fielder Alex Rios (thumb) is doubtful for Thursday's game against Houston.
Insight: Rios has been dealing with a lingering right thumb injury. He's batting .281 with four homers, 52 RBI, 51 runs and 16 SB, but much more was expect from him after last season's production.
Rougned Odor, 2B8/27/2014 9:10:00 PM
Description: Rangers second baseman Rougned Odor went 1-for-4 with a grand slam Wednesday at Seattle.
Insight: The 20-year-old Odor was called up from Double-A out of necessity due to the failure of Josh Wilson and Donnie Murphy to fill in after Jurickson Profar's injury and he probably wasn't ready for the big leagues. Odor has batted .248 with six homers, 32 RBI, 26 runs and two steals in 290 at-bats.
Leonys Martin, CFHot8/27/2014 9:08:00 PM
Description: Rangers center fielder Leonys Martin has gone 22-for-50 (.440) in his last 14 games.
Insight: However, just two of those hits were for extra bases. One of them came Wednesday at Seattle, when he went 3-for-5 with a homer and three RBI.
Derek Holland, SP8/25/2014 8:51:00 PM
Description: Rangers pitcher Derek Holland (knee) will be activated from the disabled list after his next rehab start Thursday, according to Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
Insight: He was scratched from his last start Saturday, but he's ready to pitch Thursday. Holland had microfracture knee surgery in January and has missed the entire season. Description: Rangers GM Jon Daniels indicated Monday that Yu Darvish (elbow) is unlikely to pitch again this season, according to the Dallas Morning News
Insight: The Rangers are 50-79 and have no reason to take a risk with Darvish, who is signed through 2017. "With everything else we've dealt with and how important he is, we've said once he's completely asymptomatic and the doctor clears him, we'd get another scan and then if everything is clear, we'd get him back pitching," Daniels said. "By the calendar and how close to the end of the season we are, I don't know that it will allow him to pitch again. ... It doesn't seem to make a whole lot of sense to me to take a risk when the MRI clearly shows there is something going on in there."
Adrian Beltre, 3B8/24/2014 11:13:00 AM
Description: Rangers third baseman Adrian Beltre is a career .133 hitter (4-for-30) against Royals starter Jason Vargas.
Insight: Add in Vargas has been pitching "lights out" and Beltre will have his work cut out for him. Beltre has a .323 average, 17 homers, 65 RBI, 64 runs and an .879 OPS, but he isn't likely to reach the 30-HR plateau that we have come to expect.

Insight: Beltre has a .319 average, 17 homers, 64 RBI, 61 runs and an .874 OPS so fantasy owners can hardly complain about his production, but he isn't likely to reach the 30-HR plateau that he's posted over the past three seasons.

Insight: Beltre is likely going to come up short in his quest for a third straight 30-homer season, but with a .320 average, 17 homers, 62 RBI, 60 runs and an .880 OPS fantasy owners can hardly complain about his production.

Yu Darvish, SP8/9/2014 11:16:00 PM
Description: A rare bad outing for Rangers starter Yu Darvish against the Houston Astros.
Insight: Rarer still because the Houston lineup was missing a number of pieces in Jose Altuve, George Springer and Dexter Fowler. Although Darvish is 10-7 with a solid ERA his WHIP has taken a jump from last season - 1.073 to 1.260.
Shin-Soo Choo, LF8/9/2014 11:22:00 AM
Description: Rangers left fielder Shin-Soo Choo is just 1-for-17 versus Houston right-hander Scott Feldman.

Description: Rangers shortstop Elvis Andrus apparently has no clue against Houston starter Brett Oberholtzer having gone 0-for-7 with four strikeouts.

Description: Texas catcher Robinson Chirinos went 3-for-5 with two solo homers and three runs Tuesday at Chicago.
Insight: Chirinos (.240) has 11 home runs this season, which gives him some fantasy value in AL-only leagues.
Colby Lewis, SP8/6/2014 12:01:00 PM
Description: Rangers starter Colby Lewis threw a shutout Tuesday against the White Sox.
Insight: Lewis has been atrocious all season so he still has a 5.50 ERA even after tossing the six-hitter against Chicago. He's been better lately, however, going 2-2 with a 2.31 ERA in his last four starts.
Mike Carp, 1B8/4/2014 4:54:00 PM

Description: Rangers right fielder Alex Rios has gone 10-for-46 (.217) in his career against A's starter Scott Kazmir.
Insight: Rios' string of nine straight seasons with double-digit homers is likely going to come to and end in 2014. He has just four home runs and 16 steals after averaging 22 homers and 32 steals the past two years.
Adrian Beltre, 3BCold7/27/2014 12:23:00 PM
Description: Rangers third baseman Adrian Beltre has batted just .167 (5-for-30) over his last seven games.
Insight: Beltre is also just 6-for-29 (.207) with 11 Ks in his career against Athletics starter Scott Kazmir, so look elsewhere for a third baseman Sunday rather than spending the good chunk of change it will require to use Beltre.
Nick Tepesch, SP7/26/2014 11:27:00 PM
Description: Rangers right-hander Nick Tepesch left Saturday night's game in the sixth inning with a sore left knee.
Insight: Tepesch has yet to show he's fantasy worthy. His record dropped to 3-7 with a 4.84 ERA. He shouldn't be on any fantasy rosters at this time.

Description: Rangers right fielder Alex Rios, back in the lineup after missing time with an ankle injury, is just 1-for-16 (.063) versus Yankees starter Brandon McCarthy.

Neftali Feliz, RP7/23/2014 10:39:00 PM
Description: Rangers reliever Neftali Feliz could find himself in the closer role again after Joakim Soria was traded to the Tigers Wednesday night.
Insight: Feliz has allowed five hits and three runs in 10 1/3 innings since he was recalled from the minors. Neal Cotts (3.35 ERA, 50 Ks in 43 IP) is the other guy who may get a shot.

Description: Rangers shortstop Elvis Andrus has hit .105 in his career against Toronto's Mark Buehrle.

Description: Rangers right fielder Alex Rios (ankle) is not in Sunday's lineup against the Blue Jays.
Insight: Rios sprained his ankle in the batter's box Saturday night and is day-to-day. With a .179 career average (5-for-28) against Sunday's starter Mark Buehrle, he wouldn't have been a good fantasy option anyway.

Description: Rangers left fielder Shin-Soo Choo has gone 0-for-17 in his last five games and 10-for-63 (.159) since June 29, so he's not a good option Sunday even though he has great numbers against Toronto's Mark Buehrle.

Description: Rangers third baseman Adrian Beltre went 1-for-3 with a solo homer and a walk Friday at Toronto.

Description: Rangers shortstop Elvis Andrus left Thursday's game with a bruised left ankle.
Insight: Andrus is producing about as expected, batting .268 with 49 runs, 19 steals and a .659 OPS. He's a low-end fantasy shortstop who will help in runs and stolen bases.
Jake Smolinski, LFHot7/10/2014 8:40:00 PM
Description: Texas outfielder Jake Smolinski doubled home two runs in the first inning Thursday night giving him six hits in his last seven at-bats.
Insight: The 25-year-old is finding early susccess at the major league level. He hasn't been a .300 hitter since 2008 at Single-A so we can't expect his production at this level to be a long-term.
Yu Darvish, SP7/8/2014 8:33:00 PM

Description: Rangers shortstop Elvis Andrus is a career .100 hitter with five strikeout in 10 at-bats versus Houston starter Brad Peacock.

Carlos Pena, 1B6/28/2014 10:23:00 AM
Description: Rangers 1B Carlos Pena, just from Triple-A Round Rock, is a career .333 hitter with three home runs against Minnesota starter Phil Hughes.
Insight: The career .233 hitter has just 15 at-bats since being called up with one home run. What was supposed to be a strong point, first base, has become a disaster for the Rangers with the injuries to Prince Fielder and Mitch Moreland. Donnie Murphy and Brad Snyder have failed, now it's Pena's turn.
Alex Rios, RF6/28/2014 12:49:00 AM
Description: Rangers right fielder Alex Rios is not in Saturday's starting lineup.
Insight: Rios has struggled the past two weeks (.154) after a fast start to the season. His home run total is lagging well behind last season, but his overall numbers are still solid (.305, 3 HR, 34 RBI, 34 runs, 13 SB, .778 OPS)

Insight: Choo hasn't been much of a fantasy asset this season, batting .252 with a .766 OPS. We're not sure Choo, who hasn't had an extra-base hit in seven games, is swinging well enough to take advantage of this favorable matchup.
Mitch Moreland, 1B6/18/2014 4:17:00 PM
Description: Texas first baseman Mitch Moreland has opted to have season-ending ankle surgery. SOURCE: Jeff Wilson, Fort Worth Star-Telegram
Insight: The surgery is set for next Monday in North Carolina. It's a shame because Moreland would have had a chance to thrive without Prince Fielder (neck surgery) in the lineup. Brad Snyder and Carlos Pena will now be asked to carry the load at first base.
Carlos Pena, 1B6/17/2014 3:23:00 PM
Description: Apparently Brad Snyder may not be the answer to the Rangers' first base problems as the team just signed 36-year-old Carlos Pena to a minor league contract.
Insight: Snyder is batting .214 in the five games since he was brought up to replace injured Mitch Moreland, who was already replacing Prince Fielder. Pena has a history of free swinging (182 K's in 2012) but is also a power threat (one HR per 17.2 AB in his career).
Alex Rios, RF6/17/2014 10:32:00 AM
Description: Rangers right fielder Alex Rios is 1-for-12 with four strikeouts against Oakland left-hander Tommy Milone.
Insight: Rios is putting together an excellent season batting .324 with 3 HR, 32 RBI, 33 runs scored, eight triples and 12 steals. As long as your league doesn't use "net steals" as a category as he's been caught a league-high eight times. This is a matchup to be avoided.
Adrian Beltre, 3B6/17/2014 10:27:00 AM
Description: Texas third baseman Adrian Beltre is batting .412 with two homers against Oakland starter Tommy Milone.
Insight: On the other hand, he's not hitting well this weel, batting just .200 for the past five games with a .540 OPS.
Adrian Beltre, 3BHot6/15/2014 11:29:00 AM
Description: Texas third baseman Adrian Beltre is batting .383 with three homers and 11 RBI in June and has crushed Seattle starter Hisashi Iwakuma in the past.
Insight: Iwakuma is a tough right-hander, but Beltre is 10-for-25 (.400) with a double and three homers against him. The favorable matchup combined with Beltre's scorching June make him a strong play on Sunday.
Shin-Soo Choo, LF6/11/2014 10:54:00 PM
Description: Rangers left fielder Shin-Soo Choo contributed four RBI Wednesday in a win over the Marlins.
Insight: Three of those runs came across on a bases loaded double in the third inning. Though his average has fallen a bit (.261), Choo still has one of the highest on base percentages in the league at .397.
Yu Darvish, SP6/11/2014 10:49:00 PM
Description: Rangers ace Yu Darvish earned his first career shutout Wednesday against Miami.
Insight: With the way he's pitched since coming onto the scene in 2012, it's hard to believe Darvish didn't have a shutout until now. His tidy 2.11 ERA is among the best in the major leagues and Darvish is one of just six big league pitchers with 100 or more strikeouts this season. His next start is scheduled for Tuesday against Oakland.
Rougned Odor, 2B6/10/2014 5:35:00 PM
Description: Rangers second baseman Rougned Odor (shoulder) is in the lineup Tuesday against the Marlins.
Insight: Odor left Sunday's game with a sprained right shoulder, but his MRI revealed no structural damage.
Brad Snyder, RF6/10/2014 4:29:00 PM
Description: Texas Rangers minor league outfielder Brad Snyder has been called and will start at first base on Tuesday.
Insight: If he proves he can make it with the glove, he's certain shown talent with the bat. Snyder is batting .289 with 18 HR and 51 RBI. With the Rangers short-handed at 1B due to injuries to Prince Fielder and Mitch Moreland, Snyder could be an option that fantasy owners could enjoy.
Rougned Odor, 2B6/9/2014 6:06:00 PM
Description: Rangers second baseman Rougned Odor's MRI revealed no structural damage in his right shoulder, according to Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
Insight: Odor left Sunday's game with a sprained right shoulder, but the Rangers received good news for a change. Texas has possibly had more injuries than any other team this season, especially to the right side of the infield. Prince Fielder and Jurickson Profar are likely done for the season and the team announced Sunday that Mitch Moreland will need ankle surgery.
Brad Snyder, RF6/9/2014 4:49:00 PM
Description: Texas Rangers minor league outfielder Brad Snyder was seen playing 1B this weekend down at Triple-A Round Rock.
Mitch Moreland, 1B6/9/2014 4:43:00 PM
Description: Rangers first baseman Mitch Moreland will get a second opinion and hopes to have a less serious ankle surgery than reconstruction which would keep him out for three months.
Insight: If the less extensive work is done, Moreland (.246, 2 HR, 23 RBI) could return in 3-4 weeks. Donnie Murphy will continue to play 1B.
Rougned Odor, 2B6/8/2014 5:02:00 PM
Description: Rangers second baseman Rougned Odor exited Sunday's game with an injury, according to Richard Durrett of espndallas.com.
Insight: The Rangers have possibly had more injuries than any other team this season, especially to the right side of the infield. Prince Fielder and Jurickson Profar are likely done for the season and the team announced Sunday that Mitch Moreland will miss three months due to ankle surgery. Odor appeared to suffer an injury while diving back to first on a pickoff move.
Mitch Moreland, 1B6/8/2014 1:50:00 PM
Description: Rangers first baseman Mitch Moreland needs left ankle surgery and will miss three months, according to Richard Durrett of espndallas.com.
Insight: Both of Texas' first basemen, Prince Fielder and Moreland, have suffered serious injuries this season, and Kendrys Morales is off the table after signing with the Twins Saturday. Corner infield prospect Joey Gallo, who has hit 61 homers in his last 169 games in the minors, was promoted to Double-A in the wake of Moreland's injury and he could be on the fast track to the majors.
Alexi Ogando, SP6/4/2014 4:39:00 PM
Description: Texas reliever Alexi Ogando has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with right elbow inflammation. SOURCE: Bob Nightengale, USA Today
Insight: Ogando (2-3, 6.84 ERA) was brutal against the Orioles last night, allowing two hits and three earned runs in just a third of an inning. Aaron Poreda has been called up from Triple-A Round Rock to take Ogando's vacant roster spot.
Adrian Beltre, 3B6/4/2014 9:35:00 AM
Description: Texas third baseman Adrian Beltre blasted three hits including his sixth home run of the season Tuesday in a loss to Baltimore.
Insight: April wasn't kind to Beltre (.234 in 47 at bats) but he's rebounded beautifully since then, hitting .322 over his last 30 games. Even at 35, Beltre is still a top-tier fantasy talent.
Matt Harrison, SP6/3/2014 8:40:00 PM
Description: Texas starter Matt Harrison had spinal fusion surgery on Tuesday. SOURCE: TR Sullivan, MLB.com
Insight: He won't pitch again in 2014. Peyton Manning underwent a similar procedure a few years ago and came back better than ever so hopefully the same is true for Harrison. The left-hander turns 29 in September.
Jurickson Profar, 2B6/3/2014 4:57:00 PM
Description: Rangers second baseman Jurickson Profar (shoulder) doesn't expect to play again this season. SOURCE: Jeff Wilson, Fort Worth Star-Telegram
Insight: Profar aggravated his shoulder strain in late May and was shut down indefinitely. Baseball America's No. 1 prospect in 2013 will try to get his career back on track in 2015.
Yu Darvish, SP6/1/2014 7:55:00 PM
Description: Texas right-hander Yu Darvish was dominant Sunday in his return to the starting rotation.
Insight: He delivered 12 punchouts over eight scoreless frames. Opposing hitters are now batting just .210 against Darvish (5-2, 2.08 ERA) in 2014. When healthy, Darvish is a top-ten fantasy pitcher.
Shin-Soo Choo, LF6/1/2014 11:59:00 AM
Description: Texas left fielder Shin-Soo Choo is not in the lineup Sunday at Washington.
Insight: Choo has an on-base percentage above .400 for the second straight season and is hitting .289 with six homers, 18 RBI, 31 runs and three steals.
Mitch Moreland, 1B5/31/2014 10:26:00 AM
Description: Rangers first baseman Mitch Moreland is just 2-for-15 (.133) against Nationals right-hander Doug Fister.
Insight: The Rangers have moved Moreland up to third in the lineup in front of Adrian Beltre with Prince Fielder on the disabled list, but he should be avoided in this unfavorable matchup.
Alex Rios, RFHot5/31/2014 10:09:00 AM
Description: Rangers right fielder Alex Rios is 10-for-19 (.526) against Washington right-hander Doug Fister.
Insight: Rios is hot, batting .385 over the past two weeks to raise his average to .319. Two complains with his performance this season, however. He's hit just three homers after blasting 18 last season and he's been caught stealing a league-leading six times, so if your league uses net steals he's been hurting you more than helping.
Adrian Beltre, 3BHot5/30/2014 10:00:00 PM
Description: Rangers third baseman Adrian Beltre raised his average to .300 for the first time since April 4 with three hits Friday night.
Insight: Beltre has gone 27-for-69 (.391) with four doubles, three homers and 10 RBI in his last 17 games.
Yu Darvish, SP5/29/2014 7:19:00 PM
Description: The Rangers have moved Yu Darvish's start back to Sunday. Previously, the right-hander told reporters he would pitch Saturday against Washington. SOURCE: Gerry Fraley, Dallas Morning News
Insight: Darvish (4-2, 2.35 ERA) has been dealing with neck stiffness but it looks like the injury will only cost him one start. Nick Tepesch (2-0, 2.95 ERA) will start Saturday's game.
Elvis Andrus, SS5/29/2014 11:49:00 AM
Description: Rangers shortstop Elvis Andrus is not in Thursday afternoon's starting lineup.
Insight: Andrus has turned it around of late, batting .308 this week. Luis Sardinas gets the start at shortstop. He's batting .280 in limited time and holds little fantasy value.
Adrian Beltre, 3B5/29/2014 10:44:00 AM
Description: Rangers 3B Adrian Beltre "owns" Twins right-hander Samuel Deduno.
Insight: Beltre is 5-for-6 against Deduno with a double, triple and two homers for a stunning 3.167 OPS. Beltre's numbers are down from last season, but he's still batting a respectable .287 with a .798 OPS. He's always been a second-half hitter, so no need to panic.
Yu Darvish, SP5/28/2014 7:20:00 PM
Description: Texas right-hander Yu Darvish expects to make his scheduled appearance Saturday against Washington. SOURCE: Jeff Wilson, Fort Worth Star-Telegram
Insight: He missed Tuesday's start because of a stiff neck. If Darvish (4-2, 2.35 ERA) can't pitch Saturday, Nick Tepesch (2-0, 2.95 ERA) would get the start instead.
Alex Rios, RFHot5/28/2014 9:56:00 AM
Description: Rangers right fielder Alex Rios has gone 27-for-70 (.386) with five doubles, four triples and one homer in his last 18 games.
Insight: Rios has picked up multiple hits in seven straight games while hitting .516 in that span. He's up to .330 on the year, though he only has three home runs due to a 5.4 percent HR/FB.
Scott Baker, SP5/27/2014 11:00:00 PM
Description: Rangers RHP Scott Baker gave up two runs on three hits with a 4/0 K/BB in six innings Tuesday at Minnesota.
Insight: Baker had to start after Yu Darvish was scratched due to neck stiffness. Darvish should be fine, but Baker could stick around as the No. 5 starter.
Yu Darvish, SP5/27/2014 8:19:00 PM
Description: Rangers starter Yu Darvish's MRI results were "unremarkable," which means he has no structural damage, according to T.R. Sullivan of mlb.com.
Insight: Darvish was scratched from Tuesday's start after waking up with neck stiffness. He missed Opening Day with the same injury but was able to return on April 6.
Yu Darvish, SP5/27/2014 4:38:00 PM
Description: Rangers starter Yu Darvish has been scratched from Tuesday's start due to a stiff neck, according to the team.
Insight: Fantasy owners don't want to hear this, but he is scheduled for an MRI. He missed Opening Day with the same injury. He's 4-2 with a 2.35 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 71 strikeouts in 61.1 IP. Scott Baker will make the start.
Elvis Andrus, SS5/27/2014 10:24:00 AM
Description: Rangers shortstop Elvis Andrus is 1-for-13 (.077) against Minnesota starter Phil Hughes.
Insight: After a average start, Andrus has turned it around, hitting safely in 18 of his last 21 games and batting .318. Avoid this matchup, however.
Alex Rios, RFHot5/27/2014 10:20:00 AM
Description: Rangers right fielder Alex Rios is a career .458 hitter (11-for-24) with a 1.148 OPS versus Minnesota starter Phil Hughes.
Insight: Rios is batting .322 with three home runs, 29 RBI, 24 runs, nine steals and an .831 OPS this season after his sixth consecutive multi-hit day. He's a must start on Tuesday.
Elvis Andrus, SS5/26/2014 5:48:00 PM
Description: Rangers shortstop Elvis Andrus has gone 7-for-16 with two doubles, three RBI and five runs in his last three games.
Insight: Andrus has been trying to get his average back up after going 4-for-46 (.087) from April 20 to May 3. He has batted .318 in 21 games since that slump and is hitting .260 on the year.
Alex Rios, RFHot5/25/2014 8:14:00 PM
Description: Rangers right fielder Alex Rios has had multiple hits in five straight games.
Insight: Rios is quietly batting .316 with three home runs, 29 RBI, 22 runs, eight steals and an .816 OPS this season after going 2-for-6 with a triple and three RBI Sunday at Detroit.
Mitch Moreland, 1BHot5/25/2014 8:11:00 PM
Description: Rangers first baseman Mitch Moreland has gone 9-for-28 (.321) with four doubles, one home run and eight RBI in his last seven games.
Insight: The Rangers have moved Moreland up to third in the lineup in front of Adrian Beltre with Prince Fielder on the disabled list. He went 3-for-5 with three RBI Sunday at Detroit.
Shin-Soo Choo, LF5/25/2014 10:01:00 AM
Description: Texas left fielder Shin-Soo Choo is back in the lineup after leaving Saturday's game with an ankle injury. SOURCE: Richard Durrett, ESPN Dallas
Insight: Choo has been excellent this season, producing a .434 on base percentage in his first 44 games. That percentage ranks third in the major leagues behind only Yasiel Puig and Troy Tulowitzki. Texas needs Choo to carry the offense while Prince Fielder recovers from neck surgery.
Donnie Murphy, 2B5/24/2014 8:45:00 PM
Description: Texas DH Donnie Murphy reached base four times in Saturday's win against the Tigers.
Insight: Saturday was Murphy's first game since suffering a neck strain on May 7th. Though he should see regular at bats with Prince Fielder out of the lineup, Murphy (.230, 2 HR, 9 RBI) isn't someone fantasy owners can count on for consistent production.
Rougned Odor, 2B5/24/2014 8:40:00 PM
Description: Texas 2B Rougned Odor blasted four hits Saturday in a victory over Detroit.
Insight: The five RBI Odor registered on Saturday were a career-high. With Jurickson Profar encountering another setback in his recovery from shoulder surgery, Odor looks to be the Rangers' starting second baseman for the forseeable future.
Shin-Soo Choo, LF5/24/2014 7:50:00 PM
Description: Rangers left fielder Shin-Soo Choo had to leave Saturday's game in the sixth inning after tweaking his left ankle. SOURCE: Evan Grant, Dallas Morning News
Insight: He went 1-for-3 with a walk before exiting. Michael Choice (.196, 2 HR, 17 RBI) will play out the rest of the game in left field.
Joe Saunders, SP5/24/2014 4:24:00 PM
Description: Texas lefty Joe Saunders will return from the DL Wednesday against Minnesota. SOURCE: Ken Rosenthal, Fox Sports
Insight: Saunders hasn't pitched since bruising his ankle April 4th against Tampa Bay. Scott Baker (0-1, 6.35 ERA) will lose his spot in the rotation when Saunders returns.
Elvis Andrus, SS5/24/2014 10:53:00 AM
Description: Rangers shortstop Elvis Andrus should not be started on Saturday versus Detroit right-hander Rick Porcello.
Insight: Andrus is just 1-for-12 (.083) with three strikeouts versus the Tigers' Saturday starter. While the Rangers may be forced to leave him in the lineup because of all their injuries, fantasy owners should avoid him.
J.P. Arencibia, CCold5/22/2014 10:12:00 PM
Description: The Rangers have sent catcher J.P. Arencibia down to Triple-A Round Rock.
Insight: Arencibia was off to a miserable start, hitting just .133 over 60 at bats. The 28-year-old has launched 63 HR in his last three-plus seasons but he's hit just .210 during that span.
Chris Gimenez, C5/22/2014 10:07:00 PM
Description: Rangers catcher Chris Gimenez went 4-for-5 Thursday in a rout of Detroit.
Insight: Gimenez was called up from Triple-A Round Rock earlier this week. He's only a .206 lifetime hitter in the major leagues so don't expect him to have many games like this.
Dan Robertson, CF5/22/2014 8:34:00 PM
Description: Texas center fielder Daniel Robertson has been diagnosed with non-displaced fractures in his face. SOURCE: Jeff Wilson, Fort Worth Star-Telegram
Insight: He'll see a specialist on Friday. It's unclear if Robertson (.150, 0 HR, 1 RBI) suffered a concussion. It's been a tough day for the Rangers, who learned earlier that Prince Fielder will miss the rest of the season with a neck injury. Texas is currently seven games behind Oakland for first in the AL West.
Jurickson Profar, 2B5/22/2014 8:29:00 PM
Description: Rangers second baseman Jurickson Profar aggravated his shoulder injury and will be shut down indefinitely. SOURCE: Jeff Wilson, Fort Worth Star-Telegram
Insight: He suffered another strain, which could sideline him an additional 8-to-12 weeks. At this point, it's fair to wonder if we'll see Profar on a big league diamond at all this season.
Prince Fielder, 1B5/22/2014 6:38:00 PM
Description: Rangers first baseman Prince Fielder will have neck surgery on Tuesday. He'll need 3-to-4 months of recovery time, which means he'll likely miss the rest of the season. SOURCE: Anthony Andro, Fox Sports Southwest
Insight: It's devastating news for fantasy owners. For Texas, it's even worse as the Rangers have almost no chance of catching the A's without Fielder hitting cleanup every night. He'll finish the year with three homers, 16 RBI and a .247 average across 150 at bats. Mitch Moreland (.275, 2 HR, 15 RBI) will serve as the everyday first baseman in his absence.
Dan Robertson, CF5/22/2014 3:25:00 PM
Description: Rangers outfielder Daniel Robertson left Thursday's game after a collision with teammate Alex Rios.
Insight: Leonys Martin, who didn't start because of a sore neck, took his place. Robertson is just 2-for-18 in eight games this season.
Prince Fielder, 1B5/22/2014 3:10:00 PM
Description: Texas first baseman Prince Fielder could end up needing season-ending surgery for his herniated disc in the neck after visiting a specialist on Thursday.
Insight: He's sat out the last four games due to the neck injury. He's been one of the biggest disappointments this season batting .247 with just three homers and 16 RBI. That means more starts at first base for Mitch Moreland (.286, 2 HR, 15 RBI).
Nick Tepesch, SP5/21/2014 6:31:00 PM
Description: Rangers right-hander Nick Tepesch won his first game of the season Wednesday against the Mariners.
Insight: Tepesch threw 6 1/3 innings and gave up three runs on five hits. He was terrific with Triple-A Round Rock, posting a 1.58 ERA, a 0.99 WHIP and a 41/9 K/BB, and has recorded a 3.09 ERA, a 1.03 WHIP and a 12/5 K/BB in 11 2/3 innings since he was called up. The right-hander had a 4.84 ERA and a 1.37 WHIP as a rookie but had never pitched higher than Double-A before so he may have needed some extra seasoning.
Elvis Andrus, SS5/21/2014 6:28:00 PM
Description: Rangers shortstop Elvis Andrus has hit .306 over his last 16 games.
Insight: Andrus is still hitting just .249 this season because of a 2-for-34 (.059) stretch from April 23 to May 3. He went 1-for-4 with a homer and two RBI Wednesday against Seattle.
Shin-Soo Choo, LFHot5/21/2014 6:26:00 PM
Description: Texas left fielder Shin-Soo Choo went 2-for-3 with a solo homer Wednesday against the Mariners.
Insight: Choo has just 13 RBI this season, but he's hit .310 with a .918 OPS, five homers, 24 runs and three steals.
Adrian Beltre, 3B5/21/2014 12:14:00 PM
Description: Rangers 3B Adrian Beltre could be in for a rough afternoon Wednesday against M's starter Chris Young.
Insight: Beltre has only managed three hits in 17 encounters with Young. Beltre (.261, 4 HR, 15 RBI) has been a bit of a disappointment this season and we wouldn't recommend starting him on Wednesday.
Prince Fielder, 1B5/21/2014 12:12:00 PM
Description: Texas first baseman Prince Fielder won't play in Wednesday's series finale. SOURCE: Rangers on Twitter
Insight: He's sat out the last four games with a herniated disc in his neck. That means another start at first base for Mitch Moreland (.294, 2 HR, 15 RBI).
Leonys Martin, CF5/21/2014 12:11:00 PM
Description: Rangers center fielder Leonys Martin is missing his second game in a row Wednesday against Seattle. SOURCE: Rangers on Twitter
Insight: He's still out with a sore neck. Michael Choice (.202, 2 HR, 14 RBI) will hold down the fort in center until Martin (.282, 2 HR, 14 RBI) feels better.
Adrian Beltre, 3B5/20/2014 11:02:00 PM
Description: Texas third baseman Adrian Beltre slammed a solo home run Tuesday against Seattle.
Insight: He came in with fantastic numbers against Hisashi Iwakuma and homered off the right-hander in the second inning for his fourth bomb of the season. We're still waiting for Beltre (.261) to explode.
Tanner Scheppers, SP5/20/2014 5:35:00 PM
Description: According to mlb.com, Rangers pitcher Tanner Scheppers (elbow inflammation) will pitch out of the bullpen when he returns.
Insight: Scheppers had a 1.88 ERA in 76 2/3 innings as the Rangers set-up man last year before starting on Opening Day this season. The team doesn't want to risk further injury with Scheppers by using him as a starter. He'll begin a rehab assignment Saturday.
Robbie Ross Jr., RP5/20/2014 5:32:00 PM
Description: The Rangers have removed Robbie Ross Jr. from the rotation, according to Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. Scott Baker will take his spot and start Friday.
Insight: Texas began the season with both Ross and Tanner Scheppers, two players who had never made a start in the majors before, in the rotation, but both are out as of Tuesday.
Leonys Martin, CF5/20/2014 5:01:00 PM
Description: Texas center fielder Leonys Martin has been scratched from Tuesday's lineup with neck pain, according to Richard Durrett of ESPN.
Insight: Martin has been solid this season, hitting .282 with two homers, 14 RBI, 15 runs and nine steals.
Prince Fielder, 1B5/20/2014 5:00:00 PM
Description: Rangers first baseman Prince Fielder (neck) has been scratched from Tuesday's lineup, according to Richard Durrett of espn.com.
Insight: Fielder has a herniated disc in his neck which is now causing arm weakness. He may be back Wednesday.
Adrian Beltre, 3B5/20/2014 10:38:00 AM
Description: Texas third baseman Adrian Beltre is a career 8-for-22 (.364) with a pair of homers and a 1.073 OPS against Hisashi Iwakuma.
Insight: We're still waiting for Beltre to explode. He's batting just .252 with three homers and 14 RBI. More is expected.
Rougned Odor, 2B5/18/2014 2:28:00 PM
Description: Rangers second baseman Rougned Odor has been scratched from Sunday's lineup due to a sore right wrist, according to Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
Insight: Odor has gone 5-for-25 (.200) with a homer and two RBI while getting caught stealing twice in nine games since the Rangers called him up directly from Double-A.
Prince Fielder, 1B5/17/2014 4:42:00 PM
Description: Rangers first baseman Prince Fielder has a herniated disc in his neck and will miss at least two games, according to Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. Fielder received an injection Saturday and won't need surgery.
Insight: A frustrating season just got worse. The 30-year-old has hit .247 with three homers, 16 RBI and a .720 OPS in 150 at-bats with his new team. He has a career-high 50.4 percent ground-ball rate, which is not what you want out of a power hitter.
Shin-Soo Choo, LFHot5/17/2014 10:16:00 AM
Description: Texas left fielder Shin-Soo Choo is a lifetime .424 hitter (14-for-33) versus Blue Jays starter Mark Buehrle with a 1.078 OPS.
Insight: Choo (.305, 4 HR, 11 RBI) continues to be one of the best at getting on base. He's currently leading the AL at .431. Start him.
Joey Gallo, 3B5/16/2014 9:55:00 PM
Description: Rangers third base prospect Joey Gallo went 4-for-4 with three homers and five RBI Friday night for High-A Myrtle Beach.
Insight: Gallo is ready for a promotion to Double-A Frisco. He has batted .345 with 17 homers in 139 at-bats this season after hitting 40 homers in 411 at-bats last year. After posting a 172/50 K/BB in 2013, Gallo has a 43/28 K/BB this year. He was a first-round pick in 2012.
Martin Perez, SP5/15/2014 6:39:00 PM
Description: Texas starter Martin Perez is headed for Tommy John surgery. SOURCE: Dallas Morning News
Insight: This is what we feared when the Rangers placed him on the disabled list earlier this week. Perez, who was recently diagnosed with a partially torn UCL in his left elbow, faces a 12-to-15 month recovery period.
Matt Harrison, SP5/14/2014 6:55:00 PM
Description: Rangers starter Matt Harrison has a displaced verterbra in his back, along with a significant nerve irritation, and may have to undergo career-threatening spinal fusion surgery, according to Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News.
Insight: Harrison missed most of the 2013 season due to a back injury that required multiple surgeries, but that was a disc issue. This is much more serious. Texas also found out Wednesday that Martin Perez has a partially torn UCL. Nick Tepesch and Nick Martinez will join the rotation, with Scott Baker and Joe Saunders possibly serving as starting options down the line.
Martin Perez, SP5/14/2014 6:51:00 PM
Description: Rangers left-hander Martin Perez's initial MRI didn't reveal damage to his UCL, but he has been diagnosed with a partial tear and may have to undergo Tommy John surgery. SOURCE: Anthony Andro, foxsportssouthwest.com
