Milwaukee Brewers Player Notes
For The Last 365 Days

Wily Peralta, SP9/27/2014 10:31:00 PM
Description: Brewers starter Wily Peralta finishes off fine season for Milwaukee.
Insight: After going seven innings against the Cubs, allowing one run on five hits and a walk, while striking out 13, Peralta is now 17-11. He finishes the year with a 3.53 ERA and 1.30 WHIP. He paid off tremendously for owners this season.
Carlos Gomez, CF9/27/2014 10:28:00 PM
Description: Brewers center fielder Carlos Gomez clubs 23rd homer of 2014.
Insight: He also had a double, and is now slashing .284/.356/.477 on the year, to go along with 73 RBI. Gomez will should be targeted in the middle rounds of your 2015 drafts.
Ryan Braun, RF9/26/2014 4:23:00 PM
Description: Consider this when deciding whether to keep Brewers outfielder Ryan Braun on your dynasty roster. Manage Ron Roenicke is considering moving him to first base.
Insight: Milwaukee has three solid outfielders with Braun in Carlos Gomez, Khris Davis and Gerardo Parra, so it makes sense that one of them could move to first base. Milwaukee primarily used Mark Reynolds (.196, 22 HR) and Lyle Overbay (.237, 4 HR) at 1B this season.
Matt Garza, SP9/25/2014 6:31:00 PM
Description: Brewers right-hander Matt Garza has been scratched from Friday's start.
Insight: He was supposed to finish his 2014 season against the Cubs, but is dealing with right shoulder tightness. With Milwaukee eliminated from playoff contention, Garza finishes his season at 8-8 with a 3.64 ERA and 1.18 WHIP.
Yovani Gallardo, SP9/25/2014 4:10:00 PM
Description: Brewers starter Yovani Gallardo threw five innings and allowed five runs on 10 hits but only three runs were earned. He also struck out four and walked one in the loss to the Reds.
Insight: Gallardo could not work around two Rickie Weeks' errors, which ultimately cost him in a 5-3 loss. Gallardo finishes 2014 with a 8-11 record and 3.51 ERA in 192 1/3 innings. His last victory came on Aug. 16. Gallardo was 0-5 in his last seven starts.
Rickie Weeks, 2B9/25/2014 3:56:00 PM
Description: Brewers second baseman Rickie Weeks hit 2-for-4 with a solo home run and two runs in the loss to the Reds on Thursday.
Insight: Unfortunately for Weeks, he also committed two errors in the field which contributed to two Reds runs. It was a fitting end to the Brewers slide out of first place and then playoff contention this month. Weeks is hitting .272 with eight home runs, 36 runs and 28 RBI in 246 at-bats this year.
Kyle Lohse, SP9/24/2014 10:04:00 PM
Description: Brewers right-hander Kyle Lohse pitches complete game shutout against Cincinnati on Wednesday.
Insight: He did it with relative ease, yielding only two hits, while striking out six. Lohse has had another solid year, as he is 13-9 with a 3.55 ERA in 2014.
Scooter Gennett, 2B9/24/2014 4:04:00 PM
Description: Brewers second baseman Scooter Gennett is out of the lineup Wednesday against the Reds.
Insight: Rickie Weeks (.263, 7 HR, 26 RBI in 240 at-bats) will start against Daniel Corcino
Mike Fiers, SP9/23/2014 9:57:00 PM
Description: Brewers right-hander Mike Fiers goes five innings in loss to Reds.
Insight: He struck out three and allowed two runs. Fiers has filled in nicely as a starter, and is now 6-4 with a 1.92 ERA on the year.
Aramis Ramirez, 3B9/23/2014 1:39:00 PM
Description: Brewers third baseman Aramis Ramirez has a favorable matchup Tuesday against Reds ace Johnny Cueto.
Insight: Ramirez is a career .333 hitter (14-for-42) with five home runs and 11 RBI. That's the most home runs by any hitter off Cueto.
Ryan Braun, RF9/21/2014 10:00:00 AM
Description: Brewers outfielder Ryan Braun is a career .385 (5-for-13) hitter against Pirates starter Vance Worley.
Insight: Braun has two doubles and a RBI as well against Worley. The outfielder is 2-for-7 with a double in the series against the Pirates.
Carlos Gomez, CF9/21/2014 9:34:00 AM
Description: Brewers center fielder Carlos Gomez is hitless in his last 16 plate appearances, going 0-for-5 on Saturday against the Pirates.
Insight: Gomez was hitting extremely well just about 10 days ago, recording four multi-hit games in a week, but he is back in a slump, perhaps the biggest this year. Overall though, he has still basically reproduced his numbers from his breakout season a year ago. Gomez is hitting .281/.352/.467 with 21 home runs, 69 RBI and 33 stolen bases.
Francisco Rodriguez, RP9/20/2014 10:45:00 PM
Description: Brewers closer Francisco Rodriguez's resurgence continued Saturday night.
Insight: He has been amazing all season, and that continued against the Pirates, as Rodriguez locked down his 43rd save. The 3.09 ERA is nothing to cry home about, as a closer, but in no way is it terrible.
Matt Garza, SP9/20/2014 9:52:00 PM
Description: Brewers right-hander Matt Garza was ejected Saturday night for hitting Andrew McCutchen in the fifth inning.
Insight: McCutchen was hit for the first time in the third inning, and Edinson Volquez retaliated by throwing at Ryan Braun in the fourth. At the point, warnings were issued to both benches. Garza did not appear to mean to hit McCutchen in the fifth, but was tossed nonetheless. He was throwing well after 4 2/3 innings, striking out six and not letting up a run. Garza's pitch count was at 86, making it unlikely he would advance too far into the game.
Jean Segura, SS9/20/2014 3:55:00 PM
Description: Brewers shortstop Jean Segura is hitless in 15 at-bats against Pirates starter Edinson Volquez and is not in the starting lineup.
Insight: The shortstop has hit .238 with four home runs, 18 steals and a .593 OPS. Hopefully he comes back in 2015 and plays like he did in his first full season (2013) instead of this pale version of himself.
Jean Segura, SS9/20/2014 10:09:00 AM
Description: Brewers shortstop Jean Segura is hitless in 15 at-bats against Pirates starter Edinson Volquez.
Insight: Avoid this matchup. The shortstop has hit .238 with four home runs, 18 steals and a .593 OPS. Hopefully he comes back in 2015 and plays like he did in his first full season (2013) instead of this pale version of himself.
Yovani Gallardo, SP9/19/2014 10:27:00 PM
Description: Brewers starter Yovani Gallardo threw seven shutout innings, allowed five hits, struck out 11 and walked none but had nothing to show for it.
Insight: Gallardo gave way to relief pitcher Joanthan Broxton, who proceeded to toss up a three-run homer to Pirates catcher Russell Martin in the bottom of the eighth. It was the second straight night Milwaukee blew a 2-0 lead in the eighth. The Brewers are now four 1/2 back in the wild card with eight games to go. Gallardo is 8-10 with a 3.46 ERA this year.
Jonathan Lucroy, C9/19/2014 10:18:00 PM
Description: Brewers catcher Jonathan Lucroy was 2-for-4 with a RBI in the loss against the Pirates on Friday.
Insight: Lucroy drove in Ryan Braun during the first inning to give the Brewers a much needed early lead in the most important series of the season. The Milwaukee bullpen, however, blew its second straight lead in the 8th as the Brewers fell to 4 1/2 back in the wild card race. Lucroy is still having an MVP type season, hitting .305 with 13 home runs and 68 RBI.
Aramis Ramirez, 3B9/18/2014 3:08:00 PM
Description: Brewers third baseman Aramis Ramirez and second basemen Scotter Gennett are each 6-for-13 (.462) against Cardinals starter Shelby Miller.
Insight: Ramirez has the superior power numbers, hitting two home runs and five RBI off Miller. Either one is a worthy start on Thursday as the Brewers take the field for their most important game of the season to date.
Carlos Gomez, CF9/18/2014 2:59:00 PM
Description: Brewers center fielder Carlos Gomez is a lifetime .125 (2-for-16) hitter against Cardinals starter Shelby Miller.
Insight: Despite a wrist injury at the beginning of the month, Gomez is batting .375/.488/.469 in September, so it might be hard to sit the center fielder. Just be wary this is a matchup he does not have much success in.
Aramis Ramirez, 3B9/17/2014 11:31:00 AM
Description: Brewers third baseman Aramis Ramirez has ridiculous numbers versus Cardinals' ace Adam Wainwright.
Insight: He is 23-for-56 lifetime against Wainwright, with 11 extra-base hits. Not many players hit Wainwright this well, especially righties. Make sure Ramirez is in your lineup for tonight's big game against St. Louis.
Francisco Rodriguez, RP9/17/2014 12:18:00 AM
Description: Brewers closer Francisco Rodriguez recorded his 42nd save of the year, shutting down the Cardinals in the bottom of the 12th to hold onto a 3-2 victory.
Insight: K-Rod nearly tossed up a game-tying home run to Johnny Peralta, but the fly ball died at the warning track and was caught. Rodriguez has had his struggles this year, but he is third in the National League in saves and has converted 42 out of 47 opportuntities.
Matt Clark, 3B9/16/2014 4:19:00 PM
Description: He's only played in nine games and totaled 17 official at-bats, but Milwaukee 1B Matt Clark is quickly making a name for himself.
Insight: Clark homered in his third consecutive game Sunday and is back in the lineup Tuesday. He batted .304 with 26 homers in 120 minor league games this season between Double-A Binghamton and Triple-A Nashville.
Carlos Gomez, CF9/16/2014 11:33:00 AM
Description: Brewers center fielder Carlos Gomez could be in for a long night on Tuesday.
Insight: Gomez is 3-for-17 over his career against Cardinals' starter Lance Lynn, with an ugly 9 strikeouts. If you have a better option for your outfield, it would not be the worst idea to give Gomez the night off.
Gerardo Parra, RFHot9/16/2014 11:26:00 AM
Description: Milwaukee outfielder Gerardo Parra should be in the lineup tonight, as he as great numbers against Cardinals' starter Lance Lynn.
Insight: Parra is 7-for-14 over his career against Lynn. To go along with a solid average, he also has five extra-base hits against St. Louis' righty. Parra should definitely be on the radar for a daily fantasy play.
Jonathan Lucroy, C9/14/2014 6:46:00 PM
Description: Brewers catcher Jonathan Lucroy went 3-for-4 with two RBI as the Brewers got a much needed victory against the Reds, 9-2, on Sunday.
Insight: All three of his hits were singles, including a two-run single in the fourth. Lucroy continues his strong month, batting .353 with seven RBI in September. He is hitting .303/.371/.477 this year.
Jonathan Lucroy, C9/14/2014 11:29:00 AM
Description: Brewers catcher Jonathan Lucroy is a lifetime .391 (9-for-23) hitter against Reds pitcher Mike Leake.
Insight: The Brewers have really struggled, but Lucroy has remained pretty consistent. He is hitting .319/.407/.426 this month. Lucroy is a must-start on Sunday.
Aramis Ramirez, 3B9/14/2014 9:28:00 AM
Description: Brewers third baseman Aramis Ramirez hit a solo home run against the Reds on Saturday.
Insight: The homer was the lone Brewers run as Milwaukee lost to Cincinnati, 5-1. It was also only one of two hits the Brewers recorded on Saturday. Ramirez has 15 homers this year with 65 RBI and is batting .296. The way the Brewers are struggling as a team, it is hard to keep throwing their players into fantasy lineups on a daily basis.
Carlos Gomez, CF9/12/2014 1:38:00 PM
Description: Brewers center fielder Carlos Gomez is 10-for-24 (.417) with two homers and a 1.250 OPS versus Reds starter Mat Latos.
Insight: Gomez has been battling injuries lately, but his season numbers are still very good with a .287 batting average, 21 HR, 68 RBI, 88 runs and an .839 OPS. He's on a five-game hitting streal and should be a must start on Friday.
Khris Davis, LF9/11/2014 6:55:00 PM
Description: Brewers outfielder Khris Davis is not in the lineup Thursday due to a sore right forearm.
Insight: Davis should be back on Friday. Gerardo Parra is in left field on Thursday.
Ryan Braun, RF9/10/2014 4:55:00 PM
Description: Brewers outfielder Ryan Braun is not in the starting lineup Wednesday.
Insight: Braun's thumb was bothering him and he didn't start Monday either, but did pinch hit. He is hitting .272 with 18 home runs and 78 RBI on the season.
Carlos Gomez, CF9/8/2014 5:09:00 PM
Description: Brewers center fielder Carlos Gomez (wrist) is in Monday's starting lineup.
Insight: Gomez singled as a pinch-hitter on Monday. He returns to the starting lineup on Monday for the first time since Aug. 31.
Mark Reynolds, 1B9/8/2014 12:17:00 PM
Description: Brewers first baseman Mark Reynolds is hitting .412 (7-for-17) in his career against Marlins starter Brad Penny.
Insight: Reynolds also has seven RBI against Penny. Reynolds has 21 home runs on the season, but besides maybe a plug in when he has a favorable matchup like Monday, Reynolds is not fantasy relavant. He is hitting .198/.288/.396 with 30 extra-base hits and 44 RBI this year.
Carlos Gomez, CF9/7/2014 7:09:00 PM
Description: Brewers center fielder Carlos Gomez (wrist) did not start but did pinch hit against the Cardinals on Sunday.
Insight: There was a chance Gomez would play on Sunday, but manager Ron Roenicke likely held him out for precautionary reasons. With the Brewers continuing their slide, Roenicke might have to go with Gomez no matter what on Monday.
Carlos Gomez, CF9/7/2014 11:19:00 AM
Description: Brewers center fielder Carlos Gomez (wrist) told the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel he could play as early as Sunday in the series finale against the Cardinals. UPDATE: Gomez is not in the lineup on Sunday. He could return on Monday. Gerado Parra will start in center field on Sunday.
Insight: Gomez hit batting practice on Saturday and appeared fine. Gomez said that if he feels fine again on Sunday, then he will tell manager Ron Roenicke that he can play. Roenicke indicated, however, he would like to wait until Monday to insert Gomez into the lineup.
Aramis Ramirez, 3B9/7/2014 10:04:00 AM
Description: Brewers third baseman Aramis Ramirez is a career .415 hitter (22-for-53) against Cardinals ace Adam Wainwright.
Insight: Ramirez has cooled since completing a huge August (.380, 2 HR, 13 RBI, .961 OPS). He's batted just .217 over his last six games.
Jonathan Lucroy, C9/6/2014 10:22:00 PM
Description: Brewers catcher Jonathan Lucroy went 2-for-3 with a walk and run scored on Saturday's loss to the Cardinals.
Insight: The Brewers may be struggling big time, but Lucroy has been just fine. Lucroy has a nine-game hitting streak and is batting .333 with five doubles over that span. The catcher has had a great season, hitting .301 with 13 home runs, 62 RBI and .850 OPS.
Ryan Braun, RF9/6/2014 6:10:00 PM
Description: Brewers outfielder Ryan Braun was a late addition to the Brewers' starting linup on Saturday.
Insight: Braun's thumb was bothering him prior to Saturday's game, but he made it through the pregame workout with no major issues. The Brewers need him in the next two games against the Cardinals. He is hitting .275 with 18 home runs and 77 RBI on the season.
Ryan Braun, RF9/6/2014 4:55:00 PM
Description: Brewers outfielder Ryan Braun is not in Saturday's starting lineup.
Insight: The outfielder returned to the lineup Friday after missing a couple of days for the birth of his daughter, but it was surprising not to see him out their in this important series against the division-leading Cardinals. Update: It's a right thumb that is bothering Braun.
Carlos Gomez, CF9/6/2014 3:44:00 PM
Description: Milwaukee center fielder Carlos Gomez is just a .176 hitter with nine strikeouts in 17 at-bats against Cardinals starter Lance Lynn.
Insight: Gomez didn't start Friday night, but did get into the game as a defensive replacement. He's having trouble swinging a bat due to a wrist problem and should be avoided even if he's in Saturday's starting lineup. Update: Gomez is not in the starting lineup.
Carlos Gomez, CF9/6/2014 11:42:00 AM
Description: Milwaukee center fielder Carlos Gomez is just a .176 hitter with nine strikeouts in 17 at-bats against Cardinals starter Lance Lynn.
Insight: Gomez didn't start Friday night, but did get into the game as a defensive replacement. He's having trouble swinging a bat due to a wrist problem and should be avoided even if he's in Saturday's starting lineup.
Jean Segura, SS9/6/2014 11:40:00 AM
Description: Brewers shortstop Jean Segura is a career .538 hitter (7-for-13) against Cardinals right-hander Lance Lynn.
Insight: The shortstop has hit .235 with four home runs, 16 steals and a .590 OPS, but we like the matchup Saturday after his rapped out three hits and scored a couple of runs Friday night.
Gerardo Parra, RF9/6/2014 11:36:00 AM
Description: Milwaukee outfielder Gerardo Parra is one of three Brewers hitters with a career batting average over .450 and at least 10 at-bats against Cardinals right-hander Lance Lynn.
Insight: Despite just a .265 season batting average and not much power, Parra is in the midst of a five-game hitting streak in which he is batting .476 so its time to jump on Parra for a "Saturday night special."
Carlos Gomez, CF9/5/2014 4:03:00 PM
Description: Milwaukee center fielder Carlos Gomez is not in Friday's starting lineup against St. Louis due to a sprained left wrist.
Insight: He was expected to be shut down for a week so this isn't a surprise, but according to manager Ron Roenicke he was "feeling much better." Having fallen four games back of the Cardinals the Brewers could have used his bat, and enthusiasm, in their lineup.
Carlos Gomez, CF9/5/2014 10:29:00 AM
Description: Milwaukee center fielder Carlos Gomez is questionable for Friday's game against St. Louis due to a sprained left wrist.
Insight: This is actually an upgrade as he was supposed to be will be shut down a week, but according to manager Ron Roenicke he's "feeling much better." Having fallen four games back of the Cardinals the Brewers could use his bat, and enthusiasm, in their lineup.
Ryan Braun, RF9/5/2014 10:25:00 AM
Description: Brewers outfielder Ryan Braun is expected to return for Friday's contest, according to the team's site
Insight: Braun left the team Wednesday to join his family for the birth of his daughter. The outfielder will return to the lineup on Friday. He returns just in time for a huge four-game series against the division-leading Cardinals.
Ryan Braun, RF9/5/2014 4:05:00 AM
Description: Brewers outfielder Ryan Braun has returned in time for Friday's contest.
Insight: Braun left the team Wednesday to join his family for the birth of his daughter. He returns just in time for a huge four-game series against the division-leading Cardinals. Braun's numbers are the worst since he came to the major leagues in 2006, except for 2013 when he played only 61 games due to a suspension.
Ryan Braun, RF9/4/2014 5:08:00 PM
Description: Brewers outfielder Ryan Braun will miss his second straight game due to the birth of his first child according to MLB.com.
Insight: Braun left the team Wednesday to join his family. The outfielder will return to the lineup on Friday. Bad timing for the Brewers as they gear up to play a four-game series against the division leading Cardinals just days after falling out of first place for the first time since April 5.
Ryan Braun, RF9/3/2014 12:18:00 PM
Description: Brewers outfielder Ryan Braun will miss at least Wednesday's game to be home for the birth of his first child.
Insight: The Brewers start a huge four-game series with division-leading St. Louis and it would be a surprise if he didn't play for at least part of the series. This season, Braun is hitting .275 with 18 home runs and 77 RBI.
Carlos Gomez, CF9/2/2014 8:43:00 PM
Description: Milwaukee removed center fielder Carlos Gomez will be shut down a week before resuming baseball drills according to Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
Insight: Gomez will likely be out at least two weeks, which hurts any owner that needed him for a postseason run. Oh, the Brewers will certainly miss him too as Tuesday was the first day since April 5 that Milwaukee was not in first place of the NL Central.
Carlos Gomez, CF9/2/2014 5:17:00 PM
Description: Milwaukee removed center fielder Carlos Gomez in the third inning of Sunday's game against the Giants due to a sore left wrist and again not in the starting lineup for Tuesday's game against the Chicago Cubs.

Carlos Gomez, CF9/1/2014 11:59:00 AM
Description: Milwaukee removed center fielder Carlos Gomez in the third inning of Sunday's game against the Giants due to a sore left wrist and not in the starting lineup for Monday's game against the Chicago Cubs.

Kyle Lohse, SPCold8/31/2014 9:39:00 PM
Description: Brewers right-hander Kyle Lohse allowed seven runs on nine hits in a loss against the Giants on Sunday.
Insight: Lohse has alternated good and bad starts the last four times he has been out on the mound. On August 25, he earned his 12th victory this year, allowing one run in six innings, but the start before, he went only three frames and yielded four runs. If he continues the pattern though, he will win his next start.
Rickie Weeks, 2B8/31/2014 9:29:00 PM
Description: Brewers second baseman Rickie Weeks hit 2-for-4 with a double and a run in Milwaukee's 15-5 loss to San Francisco on Sunday.

Carlos Gomez, CF8/31/2014 5:49:00 PM
Description: Milwaukee removed center fielder Carlos Gomez in the third inning of Sunday's game against the Giants due to a sore left wrist according to MLB.com.
Insight: Gomez was not lighting it up before the injury anyway, going hitless in his last five games. Gerardo Parra replaced him, and it is unclear how severe the injury is. As of now, we expect Gomez to return in a day or two.
Jimmy Nelson, SP8/30/2014 5:37:00 PM
Description: Brewers right-hander Jimmy Nelson was sen to the Florida State league.

Matt Garza, SP8/29/2014 9:05:00 PM
Description: Brewers right-hander Matt Garza (oblique) threw a successful simulated game on Friday, using all of his pitches effectively according to Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
Insight: The Brewers have hoped all along that Garza could rejoin the pitching rotation without needing a minor league rehab assignment, and this is certainly a good sign. With Mike Fiers pitching very well, it's anticipated that Garza's return will bump Jimmy Nelson to the bullpen.
Ryan Braun, RF8/26/2014 6:30:00 PM
Description: Brewers outfielder Ryan Braun left Monday's game with a bruised quad, but he's in the lineup Tuesday.
Insight: Braun went 3-for-4 with a solo homer before leaving and has gone 10-for-26 with a double and two homers during a six-game hitting streak.
Ryan Braun, RF8/26/2014 9:30:00 AM

Insight: Braun has a six-game hitting streak (10-for-26) to raise his average to .282 with 17 HR and 74 RBI. Nice totals for most players, but we expect more from the Brewers' slugger.
Scooter Gennett, 2B8/25/2014 6:06:00 PM
Description: Brewers second baseman Scooter Gennett is out of the lineup Monday against the Padres.
Insight: The Brewers have avoided starting Gennett against lefties for most of the season. He's just 4-for-37 (.108) against them. Rickie Weeks will start against Eric Stults.
Aramis Ramirez, 3BHot8/24/2014 6:14:00 PM
Description: Brewers third baseman Aramis Ramirez has batted .416 with 10 RBI in August and he's now hitting .303 on the year.

Description: Brewers second baseman Scooter Gennett hit a solo home run in the bottom of the second on his way to a 2-for-5 night against the Pirates on Saturday.
Insight: The Brewers started Saturday's game the same as Friday's, with a home run to get an early lead and then were blown out. The home run was Gennett's ninth of the season. He is also hitting .308 with 44 RBI.
Ryan Braun, RF8/23/2014 9:46:00 AM
Description: Brewers outfielder Ryan Braun has homered twice and driven in six runs in his last five games.
Insight: Braun is only hitting .221 with five homers, 21 RBI and a .685 OPS since the All-Star break. Besides last season, when he only had 225 at-bats, he's never had less than 25 homers, 97 RBI or 91 runs in a season, but he's on pace for just 20 homers, 92 RBI, and 77 runs. The career .309 hitter is also batting .276, and his .811 OPS is 114 points lower than his career OPS.
Kyle Lohse, SPCold8/22/2014 9:18:00 PM

Insight: Lohse sprained his right ankle on Aug. 13 and hasn't started since. The 35-year-old has a 3.49 ERA and a 1.18 WHIP this season, but he's allowed 14 runs (12 earned) on 22 hits (5 HR) and six walks over 13 innings in August.
Scooter Gennett, 2BCold8/22/2014 3:52:00 PM
Description: Brewers second baseman Scooter Gennett is not in Friday's starting lineup versus Pittsburgh.

Description: Milwaukee center fielder Carlos Gomez is a career 5-for-11 (.455) hitter with a double, home run and four RBI against Pirates starter Jeff Locke.
Insight: Gomez has hit very well in his last five games, going 6-for-14 (.429) with two doubles, three home runs and four RBI. The all-star center fielder has been a top-10 fantasy asset all season with a statline of .287, 21 home runs, 64 RBI, 82 runs, and 27 steals.
Carlos Gomez, CFHot8/20/2014 8:29:00 PM

Insight: Gomez has been a top-10 fantasy asset this season, batting .287 with 21 homers, 64 RBI, 82 runs, 27 steals and an .848 OPS in 474 at-bats.
Khris Davis, LF8/20/2014 12:57:00 PM
Description: Brewers outfielder Khris Davis is not in the lineup Wednesday.
Insight: When the team acquired Gerardo Parra at the trade deadline, it looked like Davis would only be playing against lefties from then on, but he's had a productive month (.271, 5 2B, 3 HR, 9 RBI, .896 OPS) to keep himself in the starting lineup for 10 straight games prior to Wednesday.
Mike Fiers, SPHot8/19/2014 10:59:00 PM
Description: Brewers right-hander Mike Fiers tossed a third straight gem Tuesday against Toronto.
Insight: Fiers allowed two hits and one run and struck out seven in seven innings. The right-hander has given up eight hits and two runs while putting together a 25/3 K/BB over 21 innings since he was summoned from the minors. He had terrific numbers in Triple-A and is a must-add in all leagues.
Scooter Gennett, 2B8/19/2014 4:08:00 PM
Description: Brewers second baseman Scooter Gennett is not in the lineup Tuesday against the J.A. Happ and the Blue Jays
Insight: Gennett has been solid this season, batting .307 with eight homers and 43 RBI, but Rickie Weeks is 8-for-17 against Happ over his career.
Rickie Weeks, 2B8/19/2014 11:16:00 AM
Description: Brewers second baseman Rickie Weeks is a career 8-for-17 with three doubles, two home runs and three RBI against Blue Jays starter J.A. Happ.
Insight: Weeks is batting .231 in August with two home runs. The second baseman is hitting .251 on the season.
Mark Reynolds, 1B8/19/2014 11:13:00 AM
Description: Brewers first baseman Mark Reynolds is hitless with eight strikeouts in his career against Blue Jays pitcher J.A. Happ.
Insight: Reynolds has 21 home runs this season but is batting .204 and is hittless in his last nine at-bats.
Kyle Lohse, SP8/15/2014 8:39:00 PM
Description: The Brewers will skip Kyle Lohse's next start to let him rest a sprained ankle, according to Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
Insight: Wily Peralta will throw in his place Sunday against the Dodgers and the team hopes Lohse will miss just one start.
Ryan Braun, RF8/15/2014 7:10:00 PM
Description: Brewers outfielder Ryan Braun is in the lineup Friday after sitting out Thursday.
Insight: Braun sat out due to his recurring thumb injury. His .279 average and .814 OPS are both career lows.
Jonathan Lucroy, C8/15/2014 1:49:00 PM
Description: Its a very small sample size, but Brewers catcher Jonathan Lucroy is 5-for-6 versus Dodgers right-hander Zack Greinke.
Insight: Lucroy was just 2-for-16 in the four-game series with the Cubs, but he has been a consistent force from the catching position all season for fantasy owners, batting .303 with 12 homers, 53 RBI, 57 runs and an .852 OPS.
Mike Fiers, SPHot8/14/2014 6:32:00 PM
Description: Brewers right-hander Mike Fiers was sensational Thursday afternoon going six inning and yielding just three harmless hits while striking out 14 batters.
Insight: Fiers has recorded a 2.55 ERA and a 129/17 K/BB in 102 1/3 innings with Triple-A Nashville this season and has continues to pitch well in his two starts since being called up in August. He'd be a good add to any fantasy rotation.
Khris Davis, LF8/14/2014 6:25:00 PM
Description: Brewers outfielder Khris Davis cracked his 20th home run of the season off Cubs starter Edwin Jackson.
Insight: Davis has been at his best hitting against left-handers with a .316 batting average and a .934 OPS heading into the game, but he took the right-handed Jackson out in the third inning. Davis has been splitting time lately with Gerardo Parra and his fantasy value has taken a hit.
Aramis Ramirez, 3B8/14/2014 2:19:00 PM
Description: Brewers third baseman Aramis Ramirez is not in Thursday's lineup along with Ryan Braun and Jean Segura.
Insight: Ramirez has raised his average to .296 woth 13 HR and 56 RBI. It appears to be a routine day off.
Jean Segura, SS8/14/2014 1:10:00 PM
Description: Brewers shortstop Jean Segura is not in Thursday's starting lineup, Elian Herrera gets the nod.
Insight: The shortstop has hit .234 with four home runs, 16 steals and a .584 OPS this season after fading badly following his All-Star appearance last year. He's also been dealing with a quad injury.
Ryan Braun, RF8/14/2014 1:07:00 PM
Description: Brewers outfielder Ryan Braun is not in Thursday's starting lineup.
Insight: Braun (.279, 14 HR, 67 RBI) went hitless in his last two games and could probably use the day of rest. This is not the Braun fantasy owners were expecting to get. His seven-year average heading into the season was .312 with 30 HR, 97 RBI, 19 SB and a .938 OPS.
Carlos Gomez, CFCold8/14/2014 10:52:00 AM
Description: Milwaukee center fielder Carlos Gomez is a career .067 hitter (1-for-15) against Cubs starter Edwin Jackson.
Insight: Despite struggling lately, Gomez will almost certainly post his second consecutive 20 HR, 30 SB season, but he's unlikely to add to those totals Thursday.
Kyle Lohse, SP8/13/2014 9:43:00 PM
Description: Brewers starter Kyle Lohse departed Wednesday's game with a right ankle injury.
Insight: He suffered the injury during his at-bat in the third inning. He was able to pitch in the bottom of the inning but needed to come out after that. The right-hander gave up four runs on seven hits in his three innings of work.
Scooter Gennett, 2B8/13/2014 5:48:00 PM
Description: Brewers second baseman Scooter Gennett is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Cubs.
Insight: Gennett has gone 8-for-21 with two doubles and four RBI in August, but he's been out of the lineup 13 times since July 23 with quad and finger injuries.
Lyle Overbay, 1B8/9/2014 11:25:00 AM
Description: Brewers first baseman Lyle Overbay is the rare hitter with success versus Dodgers right-hander Zack Greinke.
Insight: Overbay is a career .346 hitter (9-for-26) with three home runs against Greinke.
Jonathan Lucroy, C8/8/2014 6:19:00 PM
Description: Brewers catcher Jonathan Lucroy is not in the lineup Friday due to a sore hamstring, according to Adam McCalvy of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
Insight: Lucroy has been a consistent force from the catching position all season for fantasy owners, hitting .307 with 12 homers, 53 RBI, 55 runs and an .867 OPS. The Brewers say the absence is precautionary.
Wily Peralta, SPHot8/7/2014 6:36:00 PM
Description: Brewers starter Wily Peralta held the Pirates to one run over seven innings but received no run support as Milwaukee lost, 1-0, on Sunday.
Insight: Pirates starter Vance Worley threw eight shutout innings and relief pitcher Tony Watson recorded the save. Peralta has lost four of his last five starts and is 16-11 with a 3.62 ERA this season.
Wily Peralta, SPHot8/7/2014 6:12:00 PM
Description: Brewers starter Wily Peralta won his 14th game by posting 6 2/3 innings of one-run baseball. He struck out nine while giving up seven hits and a walk.
Insight: Peralta isn't the Brewers' pitcher when you think about their staff, but he's 14-6 with a 3.42 ERA. He's given up two runs or less in five consecutive outings.
Mark Reynolds, 1B8/7/2014 9:44:00 AM
Description: Brewers first baseman Mark Reynolds has struck out in 55 percent of his at-bats versus Giants starter Jake Peavy (11 of 20).
Insight: Even for the strikeout-prone Reynolds, that's a lot. He has managed just three hits, all singles. Reynolds is from the" Adam Dunn school of hitting" with 19 homers and 105 strikeouts in 304 at-bats. Avoid this matchup.
Aramis Ramirez, 3BHot8/6/2014 12:52:00 PM
Description: Brewers third baseman Aramis Ramirez has hit safely in seven straight games while hitting .481 in that span and he's performed well against Giants starter Ryan Vogelsong.
Insight: Ramirez has raised his average from .271 to .288 and his OPS from .751 to .786 during the streak. He's 7-for-18 (.389) with two homers against Vogelsong.
Carlos Gomez, CF 8/6/2014 12:23:00 PM
Description: Milwaukee center fielder Carlos Gomez has gone 5-for-18 with a double, a homer and four RBI in the first four games of August after finishing July in a huge slump.
Insight: Gomez went 0-for-17 with eight Ks in the last four games of the month, and he's continued to strike out frequently in August (6 Ks in 18 at-bats). The Brewers center fielder is a fantasy stud because he hits for power, drives in runs, steals bases and scores runs, but he was never going to be able to carry a .300 average for the entire season when he strikes out so much.
Mike Fiers, SP8/5/2014 9:11:00 PM
Description: According to mlb.com, the Brewers could use Mike Fiers to replace Matt Garza (oblique) in the rotation.
Insight: Fiers has recorded a 2.55 ERA and a 129/17 K/BB in 102 1/3 innings with Triple-A Nashville this season. The 29-year-old had a 3.74 ERA, a 1.26 WHIP and a 135/36 K/BB in 127 2/3 innings as a rookie in 2012 before getting bombed in 22 1/3 innings last season (7.25 ERA, 1.52 WHIP). Marco Estrada is the other option, but he's allowed 27 homers and 63 earned runs in 117 1/3 innings this season and manager Ron Roenicke said the team will need him in the bullpen the next few games.
Jean Segura, SS8/5/2014 5:10:00 PM
Description: Brewers shortstop Jean Segura (quad) is in the lineup Tuesday.
Insight: Segura missed Sunday's game due to left quad soreness. The shortstop has hit .234 with four home runs, 16 steals and a .591 OPS this season after fading badly following his All-Star appearance last year.
Khris Davis, LF8/5/2014 4:54:00 PM
Description: Brewers outfielder Khris Davis is not in the starting lineup Tuesday against the Giants due to a sore left elbow, according to Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
Insight: Davis is likely going to yield more playing time against right-handers to the newly acquired Gerardo Parra anyway. He's hitting .229 with a .710 OPS against them compared to .319 with a .961 OPS against southpaws.
Scooter Gennett, 2B8/5/2014 4:50:00 PM
Description: Brewers second baseman Scooter Gennett was forced from Saturday's game by a tight quad and will not return to the lineup Tuesday.
Insight: Gennett missed five games last month with the same problem. He was a huge asset in June (.397 with a 1.139 OPS) but July saw him return to mediocre levels (.269, .719 OPS).
Matt Garza, SP8/5/2014 1:46:00 PM
Description: Brewers right-hander Matt Garza is expected to be placed on the disabled list, according to a Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel report.
Insight: Garza is 7-7 with a 3.58 ERA this season, but suffered an oblique injury in his last start. Marco Estrada could be moved into a starting role.
Ryan Braun, RFHot8/5/2014 1:33:00 PM
Description: Brewers outfielder Ryan Braun is a career .333 hitter against the Giants Tuesday starter Tim Lincecum. He's also 3-for-3 in stolen base attempts.
Insight: Braun (.291, 14 HR, 65 RBI) had a nice series against the rival Cardinals as he produced five hits in 12 at-bats. He's not the superstar he once was, but he's still a solid fantasy asset.
Carlos Gomez, CFCold8/5/2014 1:30:00 PM
Description: Milwaukee center fielder Carlos Gomez has gone 1-for-11 with five strikeouts against the Giants Tuesday starter Tim Lincecum.
Insight: Gomez has struck out 13 times in the past seven games and produced just three hits as his average has dropped to .291 in that time. This unfavorable matchup isn't likely to help.
Jean Segura, SS8/4/2014 10:40:00 AM
Description: Brewers shortstop Jean Segura is questionable for Tuesday's game against San Francisco due to a sore left quad.
Insight: Segura is batting .234 with four homers, 26 RBI and 16 steals in 2014. He looks nothing like the 2013 All-Star and has little fantasy value at this production level.
Matt Garza, SP8/3/2014 5:43:00 PM
Description: Brewers right-hander Matt Garza held the Cardinals to just one hit over six innings, but left the game with a left oblique issue, according to Bob Nightengale of USA Today.
Insight: The injury may have cost his team a win as the bullpen yielded three runs in the seventh inning. We await further news on the severity of the problem. Garza is 7-7 with a 3.58 ERA this season.
Mark Reynolds, 1B8/3/2014 10:09:00 AM
Description: Brewers first baseman Mark Reynolds has struck out in eight of 11 at-bats against Cardinals' newly acquired right-hander John Lackey.
Insight: Reynolds is an all-or-nothing hitter from the Adam Dunn school of hitting with 18 homers and 100 strikeouts in 295 at-bats. Avoid this matchup.
Scooter Gennett, 2B8/2/2014 11:22:00 PM
Description: Brewers second baseman Scooter Gennett was forced from Saturday's game by a tight quad.
Insight: Gennett missed five games last month with the same problem. He was a huge asset in June (.397 with a 1.139 OPS) but July saw him return to mediocre levels (.269, .719 OPS).
Khris Davis, LF8/2/2014 4:00:00 PM
Description: Brewers outfielder Khris Davis is not in the starting lineup.
Insight: Davis (.251, 17 HR, 54 RBI) has been dealing with a tight left calf. Newly acquired Gerardo Parra will get the start.
Mike Fiers, SP8/2/2014 11:42:00 AM
Description: Brewers minor league starter Mike Fiers has a 2.62 ERA and a 122/17 K/BB in 96 1/3 innings with Triple-A Nashville this season.
Insight: Fiers has pitched well enough to get a call up from most teams, but a solid Milwaukee rotation keeps him stuck at Triple-A. He'll likely get called up in September, but work out of the bullpen and have little to no fantasy value this season.
Scooter Gennett, 2B8/1/2014 8:13:00 PM
Description: Brewers second baseman Scooter Gennett is day-to-day with a left index finger contusion.
Insight: His X-rays were negative. Gennett has provided the Brewers with a massive upgrade over what Rickie Weeks was giving them the past few years. He's hit .302 with eight home runs, 35 RBI, six steals, 42 runs and an .814 OPS. Friday is his seventh absence from the starting lineup in the last nine games.
Jimmy Nelson, SP8/1/2014 8:11:00 PM
Description: Brewers right-hander Jimmy Nelson's next start has been pushed back from Saturday to Tuesday due to a blister.
Insight: Kyle Lohse will start Saturday and Matt Garza will go Sunday. Nelson, the Brewers' top prospect, is 1-2 with a 4.30 ERA, a 1.30 WHIP and 22 Ks in 23 innings so far.
Scooter Gennett, 2B8/1/2014 5:21:00 PM
Description: Brewers second baseman Scooter Gennett was scratched from Friday's lineup with a left finger injury.
Insight: Gennett has provided the Brewers with a massive upgrade over what Rickie Weeks was giving them the past few years. He's hit .302 with eight home runs, 35 RBI, six steals, 42 runs and an .814 OPS. Friday will be his seventh absence from the starting lineup in the last nine games.
Aramis Ramirez, 3B8/1/2014 10:25:00 AM
Description: Brewers third baseman Aramis Ramirez is one of the few hitters with success versus Cardinals ace Adam Wainwright.
Insight: Ramirez is 19-for-50 (.380) with a pair of home runs and a 1.076 OPS versus the All-Star right-hander. The third baseman hasn't been hitting much of late, batting .253 with a subpar .581 OPS over the past four weeks.
Khris Davis, LF7/31/2014 2:37:00 PM
Description: The Brewers' trade with the Diamondbacks for Gerardo Parra could signal the end of Khris Davis' time as an everyday outfielder.
Insight: It may put Davis on the lighter side of a platoon, as he's hit .319 with a .961 OPS against lefties but just .232 with a .723 OPS against righties. Para is one of the top defensive outfielders in baseball and hits righties pretty well.
Yovani Gallardo, SP7/30/2014 3:35:00 PM
Description: Brewers starter Yovani Gallardo has thrown 14 2/3 scoreless innings and allowed seven hits in his last two starts.
Insight: Gallardo won his sixth game of the year Wednesday at Tampa Bay after allowing three hits in seven innings. He has recorded a 2.63 ERA and a 1.06 WHIP in his last 10 starts.
Carlos Gomez, CFCold7/30/2014 3:33:00 PM
Description: Milwaukee center fielder Carlos Gomez has gone 0-for-17 with eight strikeouts in his last four games.
Insight: Gomez is finding out that it's very hard to hit .300 when you have a strikeout rate of 22.8 percent. He's down to .294 after going 0-for-5 Wednesday at Tampa Bay.
Matt Garza, SPHot7/29/2014 10:20:00 PM
Description: Brewers right-hander Matt Garza held the Rays to one run on five hits in seven innings Tuesday.
Insight: Garza (7-7, 3.74 ERA, 1.17 WHIP) allowed five runs in 1/3 innings on July 19, but he gave up four runs in 31 2/3 innings (1.14 ERA) in his other four starts this month. The right-hander has gone 5-3 with a 2.72 ERA since the start of June.
Mark Reynolds, 1B7/29/2014 9:39:00 AM
Description: Brewers first baseman Mark Reynolds has homered four times in his last five games, but should be avoided against Rays starter Alex Cobb.
Insight: Reynolds is 0-for-7 with five strikeouts against Cobb. Reynolds is from the Adam Dunn school of hitting with 18 homers and 99 strikeouts in 290 at-bats.
Mark Reynolds, 1BHot7/28/2014 10:03:00 PM
Description: Brewers first baseman Mark Reynolds has homered four times in his last five games.
Insight: Reynolds went 1-for-3 with a solo shot Monday at Tampa Bay. He's hitting .210 with 18 dingers, 38 RBI, 39 runs and a .722 OPS in 290 at-bats this season, so he's not a good fantasy option in most leagues.
Scooter Gennett, 2B7/28/2014 6:50:00 PM
Description: Brewers second baseman Scooter Gennett is in the lineup Monday.
Insight: Gennett (.305, 8 HR, 34 RBI) felt good during running drills Sunday morning, but the Brewers gave him one more day off, his fifth in a row, to rest his strained quad.
Jimmy Nelson, SP7/27/2014 5:25:00 PM
Description: Brewers right-hander Jimmy Nelson allowed two runs on five hits and struck out six in seven innings Sunday against the Mets.
Insight: Nelson is the Brewers' top prospect. He's been very good in three of his four starts this season but got bombed in the other and holds a 4.30 ERA and a 1.30 WHIP in 23 innings. Nelson had a 1.46 ERA and 114 Ks over 111 innings in the hitter-friendly PCL, so he's worth a look in most leagues.
Scooter Gennett, 2B7/27/2014 12:33:00 PM
Description: Brewers second baseman Scooter Gennett is expected to return from his quad injury on Monday. SOURCE: Tom Haudricourt, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel
Insight: Gennett (.305, 8 HR, 34 RBI) felt good during running drills Sunday morning, but the Brewers will give him one more day off, his fifth in a row, to rest his strained quad.
Aramis Ramirez, 3BCold7/27/2014 12:10:00 PM
Description: Brewers third baseman Aramis Ramirez is not in the lineup Sunday.
Insight: Ramirez is in a 2-for-26 (.077) slump and he'll get a day off. Elian Herrera is starting in his place.

Aramis Ramirez, 3B7/26/2014 11:16:00 AM
Description: Brewers third baseman Aramis Ramirez is 6-for-16 (.375) with a pair of homers against Mets starter Jonathan Niese.
Insight: Ramirez is having another good season, hitting .275 with 12 homers, 47 RBI and a .763 OPS in 287 at-bats. He's always been a very good RBI man with nine seasons of 90 RBI or more.
Yovani Gallardo, SP 7/25/2014 11:16:00 PM
Description: Brewers starter Yovani Gallardo struck out eight batters, walked none and gave up four hits in 7 2/3 innings Friday against the Mets, but he walked away with nothing to show for it.
Insight: Gallardo is just 5-5 this season even though he has a 3.57 ERA and the Brewers are 58-46. Gallardo is no longer the 200-strikeout guy he was from 2009-12, but he's cut down on his walks this season and has been much better than he was in 2013.
Scooter Gennett, 2B7/24/2014 4:28:00 PM
Description: Brewers second baseman Scooter Gennett is not in Thursday's starting lineup against the NY Mets.
Insight: Gennett exited Tuesday's game due to tightness in his right quadriceps and didn't play Wednesday. He sat out Sunday's game for the same reason, though he was able to pinch hit. He's batting .305 with eight homers, 34 RBI, 42 runs, six steals and an .824 OPS this season.

Mark Reynolds, 1B7/23/2014 7:45:00 PM
Description: Brewers first baseman Mark Reynolds connected for two home runs Wednesday against the Reds.
Insight: Reynolds (16 HR, 36 RBI, 36 R) still has solid pop, but not enough to get us to overlook his .207 average.
Kyle Lohse, SP7/23/2014 7:39:00 PM
Description: Brewers starter Kyle Lohse held the Reds to one run on four hits in 6 2/3 innings Wednesday to win his 11th game of the season.
Insight: Lohse has turned into a very good starter on the back end of his career after recording a 4.79 ERA in his first 10 seasons. In his last four years, the 35-year-old has gone 52-25 with a 3.17 ERA, including 11-4 with a 3.07 ERA and a 1.09 WHIP this year.
Aramis Ramirez, 3B7/23/2014 12:18:00 PM
Description: Brewers third baseman Aramis Ramirez is just 4-for-30 (.133) in his career against Reds starter Mike Leake.
Insight: Ramirez is having another good season, hitting .284 with 12 homers, 46 RBI and a .788 OPS in 275 at-bats, but he's not a good option Wednesday.
Scooter Gennett, 2B7/22/2014 9:50:00 PM
Description: Brewers second baseman Scooter Gennett exited Tuesday's game due to tightness in his right quadriceps, according to Adam McCalvy of mlb.com.
Insight: Gennett sat out Sunday's game for the same reason, though he was able to pinch hit. He's batting .305 with eight homers, 34 RBI, 42 runs, six steals and an .824 OPS this season.
Khris Davis, LF7/22/2014 10:26:00 AM
Description: Brewers LF Khris Davis is a sweet 7-for-15 (.467) with three home runs versus Reds right-hander Homer Bailey.
Insight: Davis hasn't done much in July, batting .229 with two homers, but this matchup is too good to pass up. Davis got Monday night off, so should be rested and ready to produce.
Ryan Braun, RF7/21/2014 11:13:00 AM
Description: Brewers outfielder Ryan Braun is a career .311 hitter, but just a .100 hitter (2-for-20 with six strikeouts) against Reds right-hander Mat Latos.
Insight: Braun (.298, 12 HR, 54 RBI) hasn't been able to match the production of his "Biogenesis Years," but he's still been productive this season. This matchup should obviously be avoided.
Carlos Gomez, CF7/21/2014 11:10:00 AM
Description: Milwaukee center fielder Carlos Gomez is a career .400 hitter (8-for-20) with a pair of home runs versus Reds starter Mat Latos.
Insight: Gomez is batting .302 with 14 homers, 49 RBI, 58 runs, 17 steals and a .869 OPS. He's a must start.
Scooter Gennett, 2B7/21/2014 10:24:00 AM
Description: Brewers second baseman Scooter Gennett is probable for Monday's game against Cincinnati due to tightness in his quadriceps.
Insight: Gennett pinch hit Sunday afternoon, so fantasy owners should expect his return. He's been a huge surprise, batting .308 with eight homers, 34 RBI, 42 runs and an .834 OPS in 87 games.
Khris Davis, LF7/18/2014 10:24:00 PM
Description: Brewers LF Khris Davis homered in his last game before the All-Star break Sunday and he went deep again Friday.
Insight: Davis has hit just .225 in July, but he's driven in six runs over his last four games and picked up at least one hit in five straight so he's moving in the right direction. The outfielder has a .255 average, 41 extra-base hits (16 HR), 50 RBI, 53 runs and a .785 OPS this season and he's batted .287 with 12 home runs and 38 RBI in his last 49 games.
Scooter Gennett, 2B7/18/2014 10:22:00 PM
Description: Brewers second baseman Scooter Gennett hit his eighth homer of the season Friday at Washington.
Insight: Gennett batted .397 with 15 extra-base hits (4 HR) in June and he's gone 13-for-44 (.295) with five extra-base hits (2 HR) in July. Overall, he's hitting .309 with 34 RBI, 42 runs and five steals.
Kyle Lohse, SP7/18/2014 10:20:00 PM
Description: Brewers starter Kyle Lohse allowed 10 hits but didn't walk a batter and held the Nationals to one run over seven innings Friday.
Insight: Lohse now has 10 wins, just one less than he had last season. He's not a big strikeout guy but has a 3.16 ERA and a 1.10 WHIP this season.
Jean Segura, SS7/17/2014 1:52:00 PM
Description: Brewers shortstop Jean Segura has returned to the team after flying home to be with his family following the tragic death of his nine-month-old son. SOURCE: Greg Matzek, 620 WTMJ
Insight: Segura will travel with the Brewers on their three-game trip to Washington this weekend but may not play every day yet. Segura was an All-Star in 2013, but he declined in the second half last year and has batted .232 with four homers, 23 RBI and 15 steals in 2014.
Wily Peralta, SP7/13/2014 5:16:00 PM
Description: Brewers starter Wily Peralta held the Cardinals to one unearned run on three hits in seven innings Sunday to win his 10th game of the season.
Insight: Peralta had recorded a 6.38 ERA over his previous eight starts. He has a 3.72 ERA and a 1.29 WHIP but just 89 Ks in 118 2/3 innings.

Carlos Gomez, CF 6/24/2014 10:22:00 AM
Description: Brewers center fielder Carlos Gomez has struggled to figure out Nationals starter Jordan Zimmermann.
Insight: Gomez is 0-for-10 against the right-hander, which normally wouldn't be that big of a deal but becomes noteworthy because Gomez also has six Ks against Zimmermann.

Yovani Gallardo, SPHot6/19/2014 9:48:00 PM
Description: Brewers starter Yovani Gallardo held Arizona to one run on five hits and didn't walk a batter in seven innings Thursday to pick up his fifth win of the year.
Insight: Gallardo (3.34 ERA, 1.20 WHIP) has allowed two runs on 15 hits over 21 innings his last three starts after giving up six runs in five innings on June 3. His strikeout rate isn't back to his peak level, but he's figured out how to pitch with decreased velocity and has had a nice bounce-back year.
Ryan Braun, RF6/19/2014 2:33:00 PM
Description: Milwaukee right fielder Ryan Braun is not in Thursday afternoon's starting lineup.
Insight: Braun is batting .279 with 10 homers and 37 RBI. The Brewers will be absent a lot of offense with Braun and catcher Jonathon LuCroy also sitting. Arizona starter Chase Anderson (5-1, 3.21 ERA, 1.22 WHIP) gets a much weaker lineup to face.
Jonathan Lucroy, CHot6/19/2014 1:18:00 PM
Description: The only one who can stop Milwaukee catcher Jonathan Lucroy is his manager Ron Roenicke, who will sit him on Thursday.
Insight: Just a routine day off after a night game. Lucroy (.341, 8 HR, 37 RBI, 35 runs, 3 SB) is the top-rated catcher in Yahoo fantasy leagues, ahead of the likes of Yadier Molina, Buster Posey and Evan Gattis.
Carlos Gomez, CFHot6/18/2014 7:02:00 PM
Description: Brewers center fielder Carlos Gomez (hamstring) is back in the lineup Wednesday.

Jonathan Lucroy, CHot6/18/2014 9:24:00 AM
Description: Milwaukee catcher Jonathan Lucroy blasted two homers Tuesday in a win over Arizona.
Insight: There's just no stopping this guy. Though Yadier Molina is more of a household name, Lucroy (.341, 8 HR, 37 RBI) deserves to be the National League's starting catcher at next month's All-Star Game in Minnesota.
Scooter Gennett, 2BHot6/18/2014 9:19:00 AM
Description: Brewers second baseman Scooter Gennett had a strong night Tuesday against the Diamondbacks.
Insight: Gennett went 3-for-5 with a double and two singles. The 24-year-old has five consecutive multi-hit games. Rickie Weeks (.286, 2 HR, 13 RBI) challenged Gennett (.306, 4 HR, 20 RBI) for playing time early this season but now it's clear Gennett is the better option at second base.
Carlos Gomez, CF6/17/2014 6:52:00 PM
Description: Brewers center fielder Carlos Gomez is not in the lineup Tuesday due to a sore left hamstring.
Insight: Gomez also sat out Monday. He hit safely in 13 straight games before that.
Carlos Gomez, CF6/17/2014 9:32:00 AM
Description: Brewers center fielder Carlos Gomez (.313, 12 HR, 38 RBI) didn't play in Monday's game against Arizona and is questionable for Tuesday's game with a hamstring injury.
Insight: Utility man Elian Herrera (.241, 0 HR, 0 RBI, 4 runs) got the start in center center field and stole his first base of the season, but hold little fantasy value when replacing Gomez.
Carlos Gomez, CF6/16/2014 8:57:00 PM
Description: Brewers center fielder Carlos Gomez won't compete in Monday's game against Arizona. SOURCE: Adam McCalvy, MLB.com
Insight: His hamstring is feeling a little sore. Utility man Elian Herrera (.222, 0 HR, 0 RBI) will take the reigns in center field. Gomez (.313, 12 HR, 38 RBi) is day-to-day.
Aramis Ramirez, 3B6/15/2014 11:22:00 AM
Description: Milwaukee third baseman Aramis Ramirez should not be in your lineup Sunday. He's never been able to figure out Reds starter Mike Leake.
Insight: Ramirez is having a good month, hitting .297 with two homers, seven RBI and an .874 OPS, but he's 3-for-27 (.111) with four Ks against Leake.
Yovani Gallardo, SP6/14/2014 10:24:00 PM
Description: Brewers starter Yovani Gallardo took a no decision Saturday against the Reds despite allowing one run and striking out eight in seven innings.
Insight: Milwaukee turned a 1-0 deficit into a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the seventh to put Gallardo (4-4, 3.51 ERA, 4.26 FIP) in line for the win, but Will Smith gave up a game-tying homer to Billy Hamilton in the ninth. Gallardo used to be a strikeout-per-inning type of guy, but reduced velocity has forced him to go to the two-seam fastball more often. He's struck out 16 batters in his last two starts but has a 7.23 K/9 this season.
Ryan Braun, RF6/14/2014 10:19:00 PM
Description: Milwaukee right fielder Ryan Braun hit a go-ahead two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth inning Saturday against the Reds.

Ryan Braun, RFCold6/14/2014 11:58:00 AM
Description: Milwaukee right fielder Ryan Braun is just 2-for-17 (.118) versus Cincinnati starter Mat Latos.
Insight: Braun has just two hits in his last 21 at-bats and faces a tough matchup. Avoid him.
Carlos Gomez, CFHot6/14/2014 11:54:00 AM
Description: Milwaukee center fielder Carlos Gomez is a career .533 hitter (8-for-15) with two home runs and seven RBI versus Reds starter Mat Latos.
Insight: Gomez is having another fine season, filling up the entire box score. He's batting .310 with 12 homers, 38 RBI, 44 runs, 11 steals and a .927 OPS. He's a must start against the just-off-the-disabled-list Latos.
Rickie Weeks, 2B6/13/2014 11:48:00 AM
Description: Brewers second baseman Rickie Weeks has great numbers against Reds right-hander Homer Bailey and if he's in the starting lineup should be started.
Insight: He's 14-for-27 against him with two homers and eight RBI. Weeks (.290, 2 HR, 12 RBI) and Scooter Gennett (.285, 3 HR, 15 RBI) have been splitting time at second base, but we're guessing Weeks will get the start on Friday.
Scooter Gennett, 2B6/12/2014 4:03:00 PM
Description: Milwaukee 2B Scooter Gennett is not in Thursday's starting lineup. Rickie Weeks will make the start.
Insight: Gennett is batting .286 this season with a .750 OPS. In limited action, Weeks has hit better than he has in a couple of years, batting .307 with two homers, 11 RBI and an .808 OPS in 88 at-bats.
Jonathan Lucroy, CHot6/11/2014 10:30:00 PM
Description: Brewers catcher Jonathan Lucroy (3-for-5, two doubles) had another big night Wednesday against the Mets.

Marco Estrada, SPCold6/10/2014 10:05:00 PM
Description: Brewers starter Marco Estrada has allowed 20 home runs in 79 innings this season.
Insight: Estrada (4.56 ERA, 1.22 WHIP) allowed 1.3 HR/9 the past two seasons but still managed to post a 3.75 ERA in that span. This year, he's allowed 2.28 per nine innings and it's come back to bite him. He's allowed 10 HRs and 22 earned runs in his last 29 2/3 innings.
Jonathan Lucroy, CHot6/8/2014 5:53:00 PM
Description: Milwaukee catcher Jonathan Lucroy had a nice game Sunday against Pittsburgh.
Insight: Two of Lucroy's three hits Sunday went for extra bases. He's gone 9-for-20 over his last five games to raise his batting average from .324 to .335. That's good for second-best in the National League.
Yovani Gallardo, SP6/8/2014 5:02:00 PM
Description: Brewers starter Yovani Gallardo brought his "A" game to the park Sunday versus Pittsburgh.
Insight: He held the Pirates scoreless for seven innings, leaving after 121 pitches. The eight strikeouts Gallardo (4-4, 3.71 ERA) registered were a season-high. He'll try to push his record back over .500 in his next start Saturday against the Reds.
Khris Davis, LFHot6/7/2014 7:40:00 PM
Description: Brewers LF Khris Davis has hit .387 with seven doubles, six homers, 15 RBI, 16 runs and a 9/8 K/BB in his last 17 games.
Insight: Davis hit .215 with four home runs, 12 RBI and a horrific 44/3 K/BB in his first 39 games this season, but he's improved his plate discipline and found his power stroke.
Jean Segura, SS6/7/2014 9:50:00 AM
Description: Brewers shortstop Jean Segura has never managed to knock out a hit against Pittsburgh starter Edinson Volquez.
Insight: He's 0-for-11. After a great first half of 2013, Segura seems to have settled for mediocrity. He's batting .262 with two homers, 17 RBI and 12 steals. More is expected.
Carlos Gomez, CFHot6/7/2014 9:47:00 AM
Description: Milwaukee center fielder Carlos Gomez is a career .333 hitter with three home runs versus Pittsburgh starter Edinson Volquez.
Insight: Gomez is having another fine season, filling up the box score. He's batting .611 with 12 homers, 35 RBI, 41 runs, 11 steals and a .949 OPS.
Mark Reynolds, 1B6/4/2014 11:51:00 AM
Description: Milwaukee third baseman Mark Reynolds has struggled mightily (.133, 2-for-15, 10 strikeouts) against Minnesota right-hander Ricky Nolasco in his career.
Insight: While Reynolds has provided a source of cheap power (13 HR), it has come at the expense of a very low average (.205) and on-base percentage (.287). To further complicate things, the Brewers are activating Aramis Ramirez from the disabled list tonight and he's expected to play third, so it would be smart to sit Reynolds on the bench for this one.
Rickie Weeks, 2B6/4/2014 11:44:00 AM
Description: Brewers second baseman Rickie Weeks has good numbers against Twins right-hander Ricky Nolasco.
Insight: He's 10-for-21 against him with two homers and four RBI. Weeks (.316, 2 HR, 10 RBI) and Scooter Gennett (.282, 3 HR, 15 RBI) have been splitting time at second base but we're guessing Weeks will get the start on Wednesday.
Jonathan Lucroy, C6/2/2014 10:32:00 PM
Description: Brewers catcher Jonathan Lucroy stroked three hits Monday in a win against the Twins.
Insight: Lucroy is having another impressive season, leading all big league catchers with a .325 batting average and a .483 slugging percentage. Don't be surprised if he gets invited to next month's All-Star Game in Minnesota.
Matt Garza, SP6/2/2014 10:28:00 PM
Description: Brewers right-hander Matt Garza cruised through Monday's start against Minnesota.
Insight: He fired 6 1/3 shutout innings, allowing just six hits and two walks. Garza (3-4, 4.42 ERA) now has 17 strikeouts over his last two outings. He'll get the ball again Saturday versus Pittsburgh.
Aramis Ramirez, 3B6/2/2014 8:53:00 PM
Description: Milwaukee 3B Aramis Ramirez will return from the disabled list Wednesday against Minnesota. SOURCE: Andrew Gruman, Fox Sports Wisconsin
Insight: Ramirez (.252, 5 HR, 21 RBI) has missed the last three weeks with a strained hamstring. Mark Reynolds (.208, 13 HR, 27 RBI) could see less playing time with Ramirez back in the lineup.
Ryan Braun, RFHot6/2/2014 2:48:00 PM
Description: It appears Milwaukee right fielder Ryan Braun is going to continue hitting in the No. 2 hole going forward.
Insight: Braun has been success in that spot, batting .469 with a 1.358 OPS in eight games. The Brewers are using Jonathan Lucroy in Braun's former spot (No. 3) following by Carlos Gomez and Khris Davis. The Milwaukee offense has scored six or more runs in six of the past seven games.
Kyle Lohse, SP6/1/2014 10:02:00 PM
Description: Milwaukee right-hander Kyle Lohse earned his eighth career shutout Sunday against the Cubs.
Insight: The most impressive part of Lohse's outing was that it only took him 93 pitches to get through nine innings. He's having one of his best seasons and should be started in all formats.
Scooter Gennett, 2B6/1/2014 9:54:00 PM
Description: Milwaukee 2B Scooter Gennett had a monster game Sunday against the Cubs.
Insight: All three of Gennett's hits went for extra bases. For fantasy purposes, Gennett (.281, 3 HR, 15 RBI) should only be started against right-handed pitching. He entered today with a pitiful .150 average against southpaws this season.
Lyle Overbay, 1B5/31/2014 10:46:00 AM
Description: Despite the nice lefty-righty matchup against Jason Hammel, Brewers first baseman Lyle Overbay has never hit him well with just three hits in 22 at-bats (.136).
Insight: We expect Mark Reynolds will get the call at first, but if Overbay is in the lineup you should avoid him.
Ryan Braun, RFHot5/31/2014 10:42:00 AM
Description: Milwaukee right fielder Ryan Braun is 5-for-11 (.455) against Cubs starter Jason Hammel.
Insight: Since returning from the oblique injury, braun is batting .333 in 15 games and .522 over the past five contests. Make him a must start.
Aramis Ramirez, 3B5/30/2014 6:16:00 PM
Description: Brewers third baseman Aramis Ramirez (hamstring) will start his rehab assignment Sunday, according to Andrew Gruman of foxsportswisconsin.com.
Insight: Ramirez (.252, 5 HR, 21 RBI) hasn't played since May 10 due to a strained hamstring. He's hoping to return during Milwaukee's series at Minnesota next week.
Jonathan Lucroy, C5/27/2014 4:28:00 PM
Description: Milwaukee catcher Jonathan Lucroy will make a fourth start at first base on Tuesday.
Insight: He should soon become eligible at 1B, though his value will always be as a catcher-eligible option. He's batting .330 with two homers, 21 RBI and 20 runs scored.
Khris Davis, LFHot5/26/2014 6:58:00 PM
Description: Milwaukee left fielder Khris Davis went 4-for-4 with a double, a solo homer, a walk and two runs Monday against the Orioles.
Insight: Davis has a horrific 49/6 K/BB this season but he's starting to show his power again. In his last 12 games, the outfielder has gone 15-for-44 (.341) with six doubles, three home runs and seven RBI. He's raised his average from .220 to .244 in the last three games.
Lyle Overbay, 1B5/26/2014 11:04:00 AM
Description: Brewers first baseman Lyle Overbay is a career .412 hitter (7-for-17) against Orioles starter Chris Tillman with three solo home runs.
Insight: Overbay is struggling, batting just .200 this season, but could surprise in this favorable matchup. Update: Overbay is in the starting lineup for Monday.
Lyle Overbay, 1B5/26/2014 7:26:00 AM
Description: Brewers first baseman Lyle Overbay is a career .412 hitter (7-for-17) against Orioles starter Chris Tillman with three solo home runs.
Insight: Overbay is struggling, batting just .200 this season, but could surprise in this favorable matchup.
Yovani Gallardo, SP5/26/2014 7:08:00 AM
Description: Milwaukee right-hander Yovani Gallardo missed Sunday's start against Miami and has been rescheduled for Wednesday against Baltimore according to his manager.
Insight: Gallardo (2-3, 3.51 ERA) sprained his ankle last time out against Atlanta.
Jonathan Lucroy, CHot5/25/2014 8:23:00 PM
Description: Milwaukee catcher Jonathan Lucroy has batted .407 in his last 16 games.
Insight: He went 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles and a triple Sunday against the Marlins and is now batting .331 with an .891 OPS on the year. He's tied for second in the majors with 20 doubles.
Ryan Braun, RF5/25/2014 8:19:00 PM
Description: Milwaukee right fielder Ryan Braun went 4-for-5 with a double, a triple, one RBI and two runs Sunday at Miami.
Insight: Braun aggravated his oblique injury this past week and has hit just one homer in 11 games since he came off the disabled list, but he showed positive signs Sunday.
Jimmy Nelson, SP5/25/2014 10:29:00 AM
Description: Jimmy Nelson will make his second major league start Sunday against the Marlins.
Insight: He's filling in for Yovani Gallardo who had his turn skipped because of an ankle injury. Nelson has pitched well for Triple-A Nashville (5-1, 1.71 ERA in nine starts) but as we all know, that doesn't guarantee success at the major league level.
Ryan Braun, RF5/24/2014 1:26:00 PM
Description: Milwaukee right fielder Ryan Braun (oblique) is back in the lineup for Saturday's game against Miami.
Insight: Beware the oblique injury. It frequently causes hitters to protect themselves while swinging and may reduce Braun (.289, 7 HR, 19 RBI) to a singles hitter for a while.
Jean Segura, SS5/24/2014 11:11:00 AM
Description: Brewers shortstop Jean Segura has stolen four bases without being caught against Miami starter Jacob Turner.
Insight: If you need steals, Segura should be a good option for Saturday. Segura is also 3-for-6 in their limited matchups.
Carlos Gomez, CFHot5/23/2014 10:34:00 PM
Description: Milwaukee center fielder Carlos Gomez belted four hits Friday in a win over Miami.
Insight: He's gone seven for his last ten with four extra base hits. Gomez's batting average (.312) is the highest it's been since April 21st.
Mark Reynolds, 1B5/23/2014 10:25:00 PM
Description: Milwaukee first baseman Mark Reynolds slugged two homers Friday in a win against the Marlins.
Insight: Reynolds has stayed true to his all or nothing reputation, homering 11 times this season while striking out in almost 40 percent of his at bats. Five of those 11 blasts have come in the month of May.
Ryan Braun, RF5/23/2014 8:49:00 PM
Description: Milwaukee right fielder Ryan Braun hopes to be back on Saturday. He missed tonight's game with an oblique injury. SOURCE: Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel
Insight: The Brewers are doing fine without him tonight as they lead Miami 8-2 in the seventh inning. Logan Schafer (.203, 0 HR, 6 RBI) will move back to the bench when Braun returns.
Yovani Gallardo, SP5/23/2014 7:17:00 PM
Description: Milwaukee right-hander Yovani Gallardo is doubtful for Sunday's start against Miami. SOURCE: Tom Haudricourt, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel
Insight: He sprained his ankle last time out against Atlanta. If Gallardo (2-3, 3.51 ERA) is scratched, Jimmy Nelson (5-1, 1.71 ERA in nine starts for Triple-A Nashville) would likely start in his place.
Ryan Braun, RF5/23/2014 5:48:00 PM
Description: Brewers right fielder Ryan Braun won't play Friday against Miami. SOURCE: Tom Haudricourt, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel
Insight: Braun (.289, 7 HR, 19 RBI) aggravated his oblique injury Thursday against Atlanta. Injuries have limited the five-time All-Star to just 121 at bats this season.
Carlos Gomez, CF5/23/2014 5:43:00 PM
Description: Brewers center fielder Carlos Gomez has returned to the starting lineup.
Insight: He sat out Thursday because of a sore lower back. Gomez (.298, 10 HR, 23 RBI) has been all or nothing lately. In his last ten at bats, he has four hits with six strikeouts. We'll see if the trend continues Friday versus Miami.
Ryan Braun, RF5/22/2014 9:48:00 PM
Description: Milwaukee right fielder Ryan Braun had to come out of Thursday night's game after feeling tightness in his side. SOURCE: Tom Haudricourt, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel
Insight: It sounds like Braun may have aggravated the oblique injury he suffered last month. Elian Herrera (.239, 0 HR, 0 RBI) has come on to take his place in right field.
Carlos Gomez, CF5/22/2014 6:17:00 PM
Description: Milwaukee center fielder Carlos Gomez won't be available Thursday against Atlanta. SOURCE: Tom Haudricourt, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel
Insight: Back issues have had Gomez (.298, 1 HR, 2 RBI) in and out of the lineup for the past week. Hopefully he won't need a stint on the disabled list.
Lyle Overbay, 1B5/22/2014 3:46:00 PM
Description: Brewers first baseman Lyle Overbay is a career .440 hitter (11-for-25) against Braves starter Aaron Harang and draws the start on Thursday.
Insight: Overbay is struggling, batting just .200 this season and is hitless in his last four games.
Jonathan Lucroy, C5/22/2014 10:21:00 AM
Description: Milwaukee catcher Jonathan Lucroy is a career 0-for-10 against Braves right-hander Aaron Harang.
Insight: Despite hitting just two homers this season, Lucroy is a viable top-10 fantasy catcher with a .848 OPS, 15 doubles, 17 runs and 16 RBI. Thursday, however, is a matchup to avoid.
Carlos Gomez, CF5/21/2014 10:02:00 PM
Description: Brewers center fielder Carlos Gomez had just two hits and five Ks in 11 at-bats against Atlanta starter Ervin Santana entering Wednesday's game, but he went 3-for-5 and hit a two-run homer off Santana.
Insight: Gomez has 22 extra-base hits, 10 home runs, 23 RBI, 29 runs and seven steals this season. He's hitting .298, but that will come down because he has a 27.4 percent K rate and isn't going to hit .374 on balls in play all year.
Mark Reynolds, 1B 5/21/2014 10:01:00 PM
Description: Brewers first baseman Mark Reynolds hit a first-inning grand slam off Braves starter Ervin Santana Wednesday night.
Insight: Reynolds has nine homers and 19 RBI to go with his putrid .202 average and 50 Ks in 129 at-bats.
Kyle Lohse, SPHot5/21/2014 9:58:00 PM
Description: Brewers starter Kyle Lohse struck out eight batters with zero walks over eight innings of four-hit ball in a 6-1 win Wednesday night at Atlanta.
Insight: Lohse is now 6-1 on the year with a 2.67 ERA and a 1.05 WHIP. For the third straight season, he has a BB/9 under 2.0, and he also has a career-high 7.22 K/9.
Carlos Gomez, CF5/21/2014 1:00:00 PM
Description: Brewers center fielder Carlos Gomez does a lot of things well. Hitting against Braves starter Ervin Santana is not one of them.
Insight: He's just 2-for-11 against him with five strikeouts. Gomez (.288, 9 HR, 21 RBI, 7 SB) whiffed four times yesterday and we wouldn't expect him to fare much better Wednesday with Santana pitching for Atlanta.
Yovani Gallardo, SP5/20/2014 10:59:00 PM
Description: Brewers starter Yovani Gallardo has been diagnosed with a sprained left ankle, according to the team's Twitter.
Insight: Gallardo's left foot slipped on the mound as he tried to leap and catch a high chopper and he had to leave Tuesday's game. He allowed four hits, three walks and four runs in 3 1/3 innings and has a 3.51 ERA and 41 Ks in 59 innings this season.
Yovani Gallardo, SP 5/20/2014 8:48:00 PM
Description: Brewers starter Yovani Gallardo exited Tuesday's start with an apparent foot injury, according to Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
Insight: Gallardo's left foot slipped on the mound as he tried to leap and catch a high chopper. He allowed four hits, three walks and four runs in 3 1/3 innings and has a 3.51 ERA and 41 Ks in 59 innings this season.
Scooter Gennett, 2BCold5/20/2014 2:48:00 PM
Description: Brewers second baseman Scooter Gennett is back in the lineup after watching Rickie Weeks go 0-for-4 on Monday night.
Insight: Gennett is batting .267 with 12 runs scored and a pair of homers, but most of the damage was done early in the season. He's batting just .227 over the past 14 days and 0-for-9 in the recent Cubs series.
Carlos Gomez, CF5/20/2014 2:47:00 PM
Description: Finally good news for Milwaukee center fielder Carlos Gomez's fantasy owners. He appears to have come out of Monday's game without a hitch and is in Tuesday's starting lineup.
Insight: Gomez has dealt with a suspension, back tightness and a stomach virus this month and played just two games over the past eight days. He should be installed in all fantasy lineups.
Wily Peralta, SP5/19/2014 10:16:00 PM
Description: Brewers starter Wily Peralta was not sharp Monday at Atlanta.
Insight: Peralta walked a season-high four batters and allowed nine hits. However, he made it through five innings while allowing three runs (two earned). His BB/9 of 2.18 is still much lower than last year's 3.58, and he has a 2.18 ERA and a 1.23 WHIP.
Jonathan Lucroy, C5/19/2014 3:38:00 PM
Description: Milwaukee catcher Jonathan Lucroy will make a second start at first base on Monday night.
Insight: Martin Maldonado (.333 2 HR, 4 RBI in 10 games) will be behind the plate. Despite hitting just two homers this season, Lucroy is a viable top-10 fantasy catcher with a .794 OPS, 16 runs and 16 RBI. He would probably not be a fantasy-worthy first baseman.
Carlos Gomez, CF5/19/2014 3:35:00 PM
Description: Milwaukee center fielder Carlos Gomez is in the lineup for Monday's game against Atlanta.
Insight: Gomez has dealt with a suspension, back tightness and a stomach virus this month and played just one game over the past seven days. He missed Saturday due to the back and Sunday due to illness. He's a box score filler and should be back in all fantasy lineups tonight.
Carlos Gomez, CF5/19/2014 11:17:00 AM
Description: Milwaukee center fielder Carlos Gomez is questionable for Monday's game against Atlanta.
Insight: Gomez has dealt with a suspension, back tightness and a stomach virus this month and played just one game over the past seven days. He missed Saturday due to the back and Sunday due to illness. He's a box score filler and should be back in the lineup soon.
Ryan Braun, RF5/19/2014 10:31:00 AM
Description: Brewers right fielder Ryan Braun is hitless in seven at-bats against Braves starter Mike Minor with three strikeouts.
Insight: Braun is 5-for-18 (.278) since returning from an oblique injury, but with just one extra-base hit (a double). Eventually, he'll start hitting the long ball again, but sometimes it takes a while before the player is confident enough to take a full swing.
Carlos Gomez, CF5/18/2014 12:36:00 PM
Description: Milwaukee center fielder Carlos Gomez (back, illness) is not in the lineup Sunday, according to Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
Insight: Gomez hurt his back on May 13, served a three-game suspension from May 14-16 and remained out of the lineup Saturday due to the injury. He's also dealing with flu-like symptoms.
Carlos Gomez, CF5/17/2014 1:40:00 PM
Description: Milwaukee center fielder Carlos Gomez has served his three-game suspension, but is not in Saturday's lineup, according to the team.
Insight: Gomez was just 1-for-15 (.067) with five strikeouts versus Cubs starter Edwin Jackson, so perhaps they figured to let him come back on Sunday instead. He's having another solid season, batting .290 with nine homers, 21 RBI, 27 runs and seven steals.
Ryan Braun, RF5/17/2014 11:27:00 AM
Description: Brewers right fielder Ryan Braun is back in the lineup for Saturday's game after missing Friday night.
Insight: Braun is 3-for-10 since returning from an oblique injury, but still without an extra-base hit. It's sometime a factor with rib cage injuries that the player is overly cautious at the start.
Carlos Gomez, CF5/17/2014 9:52:00 AM
Description: Milwaukee center fielder Carlos Gomez should be back from his three-game suspension, but has an unfavorable matchup on Saturday.
Insight: Gomez is just 1-for-15 (.067) with five strikeouts versus Cubs starter Edwin Jackson. He's having another solid season, batting .290 with nine homers, 21 RBI, 27 runs and seven steals, but should be avoided on Saturday.
Carlos Gomez, CF5/16/2014 1:03:00 PM
Description: Milwaukee center fielder Carlos Gomez says his back is feeling better and he should be ready to go Saturday when his three-game suspension ends, according to Brewers beat writer Todd Rosiak.
Insight: Gomez exited Tuesday night's game in the sixth inning because of lower back tightness and might not have played even if he wasn't suspended. He's having another solid season, batting .290 with nine homers, 21 RBI, 27 runs and seven steals.
Ryan Braun, RF5/16/2014 11:56:00 AM
Description: Brewers right fielder Ryan Braun is a career .438 hitter (7-for-16) with two homers and a 1.401 OPS against Cubs starter Jeff Samardzija.
Insight: Braun is 3-for-10 since returning from an oblique injury, but still without an extra-base hit. It's sometime a factor with rib cage injuries that the player is overly cautious at the start. For that reason we won't recommend Braun despite the favorable matchup. Update: Braun is not in Friday's starting lineup.
Jonathan Lucroy, C5/16/2014 9:46:00 AM
Description: Milwaukee catcher Jonathan Lucroy could be a candidate for the afternoon off as he's just 1-for-15 (.067) with seven strikeouts against Cubs right-hander Jeff Samardzija.
Insight: Despite hitting just two homers this season, Lucroy is a viable top-10 fantasy catcher with an .815 OPS, 15 runs and 15 RBI. Friday, however is an unfavorable matchup.
Ryan Braun, RF5/16/2014 9:42:00 AM
Description: Brewers right fielder Ryan Braun is a career .438 hitter (7-for-16) with two homers and a 1.401 OPS against Cubs starter Jeff Samardzija.
Insight: Braun is 3-for-10 since returning from an oblique injury, but still without an extra-base hit. It's sometime a factor with rib cage injuries that the player is overly cautious at the start. For that reason we won't recommend Braun despite the favorable matchup.
Rickie Weeks, 2BHot5/15/2014 10:20:00 PM
Description: Milwaukee second baseman Rickie Weeks clubbed three hits Thursday in a win over the Pirates.
Insight: His hitting streak is up to seven games. The 31-year-old carries a remarkable .684 batting average in 19 May at bats.
Mark Reynolds, 1BCold5/15/2014 11:54:00 AM
Description: Brewers first baseman Mark Reynolds will get plenty of time at third base with Aramis Ramirez sidelined by injury.
Insight: Reynolds has batted .220 with eight homers, 15 RBI, 42 strikeouts and an .755 OPS in 109 at-bats this season, bue is hitless in the first two games of the series with the Pirates.
Carlos Gomez, CF5/15/2014 9:39:00 AM
Description: Milwaukee center fielder Carlos Gomez dropped his appeal of a three-game suspension and will be eligible to play on Saturday.
Insight: Gomez exited Tuesday night's game in the sixth inning because of lower back tightness so the three days on the sidelines will serve as rest for his back. He's having another solid season, batting .290 with nine homers, 21 RBI, 27 runs and seven steals.
Ryan Braun, RF5/15/2014 9:30:00 AM
Description: Brewers right fielder Ryan Braun is a career .367 hitter with four homers and a 1.222 OPS against Pittsburgh left-hander Wandy Rodriguez.
Insight: Braun is 2-for-6 since returning from an oblique injury without an extra-base hit. It's sometime a factor with rib cage injuries that the player is overly cautious at the start. His power will eventually return.
Ryan Braun, RF5/14/2014 5:37:00 PM
Description: Brewers right fielder Ryan Braun (oblique) is in the lineup Wednesday night. According to Andrew Gruman of foxsportswisconsin.com, manager Ron Roenicke says he hopes to play Braun longer Wednesday than he did Tuesday.
Insight: Braun was removed from the lineup after six innings Tuesday, but it was planned by manager Ron Roenicke because the outfielder was just activated from the DL earlier in the day.
Carlos Gomez, CF5/14/2014 4:05:00 PM
Description: Milwaukee center fielder Carlos Gomez isn't starting Wednesday's game against Pittsburgh. SOURCE: Adam McCalvy, MLB.com
Insight: Gomez exited last night's game in the sixth inning because of lower back tightness. Elian Herrera (.276, 0 HR, 0 RBI) will start in his place.
Carlos Gomez, CF5/14/2014 12:00:00 PM
Description: If Brewers center fielder Carlos Gomez plays Wednesday, he'll get to face Pirates left-hander Francisco Liriano. That's always been a pretty good matchup for Gomez.
Insight: He's hitting .500 against him in 19 career at bats. Gomez (.290, 9 HR, 21 RBI) tweaked his back yesterday so there's no guarantee he'll be in the lineup. He's also still on the hook for a three-game suspension though the league has taken forever to process his appeal.
Ryan Braun, RF5/13/2014 10:39:00 PM
Description: Brewers right fielder Ryan Braun was taken out after six innings Tuesday against Pittsburgh. SOURCE: Adam McCalvy, MLB.com
Insight: Supposedly manager Ron Roenicke made mention before the game that Braun might not play the whole game in his first day back from the disabled list. Elian Herrera (.250, 0 Hr, 0 RBI) has come on to take Braun's place in right field.
Carlos Gomez, CF5/13/2014 10:05:00 PM
Description: Milwaukee center fielder Carlos Gomez left Tuesday's game against Pittsburgh with lower back tightness. SOURCE: Adam McCalvy, MLB.com
Insight: Logan Schafer replaced him in center field at the start of the sixth inning. Gomez (.290, 9 HR, 21 RBI) walked, struck out and was hit by a pitch in his only three plate appearances. Consider him day-to-day.
Khris Davis, LFCold5/13/2014 6:23:00 PM
Description: Milwaukee left fielder Khris Davis is not in Tuesday's lineup against the Pirates
Insight: Davis has gone 6-for-49 (.122) with 15 Ks over his last 13 games and is down to .212 on the season. Logan Schafter is starting in his place Tuesday.
Carlos Gomez, CF5/13/2014 5:04:00 PM
Description: Brewers center fielder Carlos Gomez is in the lineup Tuesday, according to Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. He's gone 5-for-11 against Pittsburgh starter Gerrit Cole.
Insight: Gomez was hit with a pitch on Sunday, but he did not leave the game and his X-rays came back negative. Gomez (.292, 9 HR, 21 RBI, 26 runs, 6 SB) is facing a three-game suspension for his role in a bench-clearing brawl that started when he admired a long shot off Cole on April 20, but MLB hasn't announced a decision on his appeal.
Ryan Braun, RF5/13/2014 4:49:00 PM
Description: Brewers right fielder Ryan Braun (oblique) has been activated from the disabled list and is in Tuesday's starting lineup, batting third.
Insight: Braun (.318, 6 HR, 18 RBI in 22 games) should be back in every fantasy lineup tonight.
Aramis Ramirez, 3B5/13/2014 4:48:00 PM
Description: The Brewers have placed 3B Aramis Ramirez on the 15-day DL, retroactive to May 11.
Insight: Ramirez (.252, 5 HR, 21 RBI) strained his right hamstring Saturday in a win against the Yankees. Mark Reynolds will handle third base during his absence and could make for an interesting fantasy option because of his home run potential (8 HR in 102 at bats this season).
Carlos Gomez, CF5/13/2014 11:01:00 AM
Description: If Milwaukee center fielder Carlos Gomez plays on Tuesday he has a nice matchup against Pittsburgh right-hander Gerrit Cole (5-for-11).
Insight: Gomez was hit with a pitch on Sunday, but did not leave the game and his X-rays came back negative. Gomez (.292, 9 HR, 21 RBI, 26 runs, 6 SB) is also appealing a possible three-game suspension.

Insight: Fortunately for fantasy owners, his X-rays came back negative and he's day-to-day. Gomez (.292, 9 HR, 21 RBI, 6 SB) did not have to leave the game. Keep in mind, he's also appealing a three-game suspension. A decision on that front could be coming within the next 24 hours.
Aramis Ramirez, 3B5/11/2014 5:37:00 PM
Description: Though the move hasn't officially been made, the Brewers will place 3B Aramis Ramirez on the 15-day DL. SOURCE: Adam McCalvy, MLB.com
Insight: Ramirez (.252, 5 HR, 21 RBI) strained his right hamstring Saturday in a win against the Yankees. Mark Reynolds will handle third base during his absence and could make for an interesting fantasy option because of his home run potential (8 HR in 101 at bats this season).
Scooter Gennett, 2B5/11/2014 12:38:00 PM
Description: Brewers second baseman Scooter Gennett will get Sunday off.
Insight: Gennett is batting .282 with 12 runs scored and a pair of homers and playing almost everyday. Rickie Weeks will get the start.
Rickie Weeks, 2B5/11/2014 12:35:00 PM
Description: Brewers backup second baseman Rickie Weeks will get a rare start on Sunday replacing Scooter Gennett.
Insight: Weeks was asked to play the outfield and refused, so his playing time has been reduced to 39 at-bats through the Brewers first 37 games.
Aramis Ramirez, 3B5/11/2014 10:06:00 AM
Description: Brewers third baseman Aramis Ramirez was diagnosed with a strained left hamstring and is doubtful for Sunday's game against the New York Yankees.
Insight: Ramirez suffered the injury in the top of the fourth inning Saturday night when he ranged far off the third base bag for a ground ball. Ramirez had his first multi-hit game since April 16 before exiting.
Jonathan Lucroy, C5/10/2014 10:13:00 PM
Description: Milwaukee catcher Jonathan Lucroy hit his first home run since April 4 Saturday against the Yankees.
Insight: Despite hitting just two homers this season, Lucroy has an .809 OPS because he's batted .298 with 12 doubles and 13 walks.
Carlos Gomez, CF5/10/2014 10:10:00 PM
Description: Brewers center fielder Carlos Gomez struck out three times Saturday against the Yankees but also hit a solo homer.
Insight: Gomez has become a legitimate power hitter the last three years, hitting 19 homers over 415 at-bats in 2012, 24 in 536 last season and nine in 151 this year. Gomez hit just 25 homers over 1,539 at-bats in his first five MLB seasons.
Aramis Ramirez, 3BCold5/10/2014 8:51:00 PM
Description: Brewers third baseman Aramis Ramirez was diagnosed with a strained left hamstring, according to Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
Insight: Ramirez suffered the injury in the top of the fourth inning Saturday night when he ranged far off the third base bag for a ground ball. Ramirez had his first multi-hit game since April 16 before exiting. He entered Saturday's game having gone 3-for-46 (.065) in his last 13 games.
Aramis Ramirez, 3BCold5/10/2014 8:32:00 PM
Description: Brewers third baseman Aramis Ramirez left Saturday's game against the Yankees with an apparent left hamstring injury, according to Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
Insight: Ramirez ranged far off the third base bag for a ground ball and limped off the field in the top of the fourth inning. Ramirez had his first multi-hit game since April 16 before exiting. He entered Saturday's game having gone 3-for-46 (.065) in his last 13 games.
Aramis Ramirez, 3B5/10/2014 1:02:00 PM
Description: Brewers third baseman Aramis Ramirez, who is in the midst of a long slump, is a career .526 hitter (10-for-19) against CC Sabathia.
Insight: Ramirez is batting just .240 with four homers and 20 RBI after hitting .154 over his last 23 games. He's a career .285 hitter.
Mike Fiers, SP5/8/2014 2:47:00 PM
Description: Brewers minor league starter Mike Fiers has a 1.86 ERA and a 51/5 K/BB in 38 2/3 innings with Triple-A Nashville this season.
Insight: Fiers had a 3.74 ERA, a 1.26 WHIP and 135/36 K/BB in 127 2/3 innings as a 27-year-old rookie in 2012 but imploded early in 2013 (7.25 ERA, 1.52 WHIP in 22 1/3) before breaking his right forearm. He appears to be back on track in the PCL.
Ryan Braun, RF5/7/2014 4:08:00 PM
Description: Brewers right fielder Ryan Braun (oblique) is on track to return on May 13, according to Adam McCalvy of mlb.com.
Insight: Braun took batting practice on the field Wednesday afternoon and is expected to spend the minimum amount of time on the disabled list.
Wily Peralta, SPHot5/7/2014 3:59:00 PM
Description: Brewers starter Wily Peralta gave up 11 hits in six innings but didn't walk a batter and gave up just two earned runs Wednesday against Arizona.
Insight: Last year, Peralta (4-2, 2.17 ERA) would have imploded on a day when he gave up 11 hits. In fact, it happened twice and he gave up six earned runs both times. He stranded just 66.6 percent of his baserunners last season, but has posted an 83 percent strand rate in 2014 while also walking 1.81 fewer batters per nine innings.
Aramis Ramirez, 3BCold5/7/2014 11:06:00 AM
Description: Brewers third baseman Aramis Ramirez, who is in the midst of a 2-for-38 (.053) slump, won't start Wednesday against Arizona.
Insight: Ramirez has hit .224 in 76 career at-bats against Diamondbacks starter Bronson Arroyo, so he'll get a day off to clear his head.
Carlos Gomez, CF5/7/2014 9:58:00 AM
Description: Brewers center fielder Carlos Gomez has picked up three hits in 20 career at-bats (.150) against Arizona starter Bronson Arroyo.
Insight: Arroyo has struck out Gomez six times. Coming off a 24-homer, 40-steal season in 2013, Gomez already has eight home runs and four steals in 2014. However, he has struggled against Arroyo.
Mark Reynolds, 1B5/7/2014 9:55:00 AM
Description: Brewers first baseman Mark Reynolds has hit .357 with two homers against Arizona starter Bronson Arroyo.
Insight: Reynolds has batted .233 with seven homers, 12 RBI, 34 strikeouts and an .821 OPS in 86 at-bats this season.
Aramis Ramirez, 3BCold5/7/2014 9:51:00 AM
Description: Brewers third baseman Aramis Ramirez, who is in the midst of a 2-for-38 (.053) slump, won't catch a break Wednesday against Arizona with Bronson Arroyo on the mound.
Insight: Ramirez has played in the NL Central his entire career and Arroyo spent the past eight seasons with Cincinnati, so the Brewers third baseman has accumulated 76 at-bats against Arroyo. In those at-bats, he's batted .224.
Marco Estrada, SP5/7/2014 9:33:00 AM
Description: Brewers starter Marco Estrada allowed four runs in six innings Tuesday against Arizona.
Insight: Estrada allowed two homers for the third straight start and has given up nine taters in 43 1/3 innings this season. The right-hander has succeeded in the past three years despite allowing a ton of home runs -- 1.2 HR/9, 3.84 ERA -- but he won't maintain a 3.53 ERA for long if he continues to serve up 1.87 homers per nine innings.
Jean Segura, SS5/6/2014 2:19:00 PM
Description: Brewers shortstop Jean Segura went 2-for-5 with a homer and two RBI Monday against the Diamondbacks.
Insight: In Segura's last 324 plate appearances going back to July 23 last season, he has walked just 10 times and batted .240 with three home runs.
Carlos Gomez, CF5/5/2014 8:10:00 PM
Description: Brewers center fielder Carlos Gomez will now have his appeal heard on Friday. SOURCE: Tom Haudricourt, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel
Insight: He was supposed to have the appeal heard today but obviously that wasn't the case. Gomez may have his three-game suspension reduced but we doubt he'll have it completely overturned. Gomez (.280, 7 HR, 17 RBI) should know his fate by the beginning of next week.
Ryan Braun, RF5/3/2014 12:57:00 PM
Description: As expected, the Brewers have placed right fielder Ryan Braun on the 15-day disabled list.
Insight: A strained oblique has kept him out of commission for almost a week. Logan Schafer was activated in the corresponding roster move. The move to put Braun on the DL was made retroactive to April 27th, so he'll be eligible to return on May 12th.
Wily Peralta, SPHot5/3/2014 9:54:00 AM
Description: Brewers starter Wily Peralta improved to 4-1 Friday with a win over Cincinnati.
Insight: He allowed just three hits over eight shutout innings. The right-hander has turned in a quality start in each of his last five appearances.
Ryan Braun, RF5/2/2014 7:46:00 PM
Description: Milwaukee manager Ron Roenicke hinted Friday that Ryan Braun could be headed to the DL. SOURCE: Todd Rosiak, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel
Insight: He's made very little progress since straining his oblique on Saturday and the team wants to make room for Logan Schafer on the active roster. If the Brewers do end up placing Braun on the disabled list, the five-time All-Star would be eligible to return a week from Sunday.
Matt Garza, SP5/2/2014 7:22:00 PM
Description: Milwaukee right-hander Matt Garza is good to go for Monday's game with Arizona. SOURCE: Ceese Carcieri, The Game Changer
Insight: He suffered a bruised thumb in his last start but was able to throw a successful bullpen session on Friday. Garza isn't off to a great start (1-3, 5.00 ERA in 36 innings) but we're confident he'll be able to turn things around. He's finished with an ERA lower than four each of his last seven seasons.
Ryan Braun, RF5/2/2014 5:13:00 PM
Description: Brewers right fielder Ryan Braun isn't available for Friday's game against Cincinnati. SOURCE: Brewers on Twitter
Insight: It's the fifth game he's missed with an oblique strain. If this keeps up, Braun (.318, 6 HR, 18 RBI) could be headed to the disabled list.
Carlos Gomez, CF5/2/2014 4:54:00 PM
Description: Milwaukee center fielder Carlos Gomez will have his appeal heard on Monday. SOURCE: Todd Rosiak, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel
Insight: He's appealing a three-game suspension for his involvement in a bench clearing brawl last weekend against the Pirates. Gomez is off to a hot start with seven homers, 17 RBI and four stolen bases in his first 29 games.
Jim Henderson, SP5/2/2014 11:46:00 AM
Description: Brewers relief pitcher Jim Henderson has been placed on the 15-day disabled list.
Insight: After losing the closer's job to Francisco Rodriguez, his fantasy value is minimal. He's not likely to get the job back anytime soon as Rodriguez has been unhittable (0.00 ERA, 13 saves).
Aramis Ramirez, 3B5/2/2014 10:08:00 AM
Description: Brewers third baseman Aramis Ramirez (elbow), back after missing a couple of games, is in an unfavorable matchup on Friday.
Insight: Ramirez is batting .265 with three homers and 19 RBI this season, but is just 3-for-24 (.125) with no homers and no RBI in his career matchups against Cincinnati's Mike Leake.
Jean Segura, SS5/1/2014 6:37:00 PM
Description: Brewers shortstop Jean Segura has returned to the starting lineup for Thursday's game against Cincinnati. SOURCE: Adam McCalvy, MLB.com
Insight: He's come off the bench the last few games. Segura underwent plastic surgery this past weekend after getting hit in the face. He's off to a so-so start with just one homer and five RBI through his first 25 games. Segura does have five stolen bases, though he's also been caught four times.
Ryan Braun, RF5/1/2014 2:46:00 PM
Description: Milwaukee right fielder Ryan Braun (.318, 6 HR, 18 RBI) is once again sidelined and doesn't appear any closer to returning from a strained oblique.
Insight: Thursday will be Braun's fourth consecutive absence. It's only a matter of time before he lands on the disabled list. Fantasy owners shouldn't expect to have Braun back anytime soon.
Mark Reynolds, 1B5/1/2014 2:46:00 PM
Description: Brewers first baseman Mark Reynolds will make his second outfield start of the season on Thursday.
Insight: Reynolds has six homers this season, though of course he's hitting a lowly .224 with 31 Ks in 76 at-bats. He's been platooning at first base with Lyle Overbay, but the injury to Ryan Braun allows both men to be in the lineup.
Aramis Ramirez, 3B5/1/2014 2:42:00 PM
Description: Brewers third baseman Aramis Ramirez is back in the starting lineup for Thursday's game against Cincinnati.
Insight: He had sat out the last two games with a stiff elbow. Ramirez is batting .277 with three homers and 19 RBI this season.
Carlos Gomez, CF5/1/2014 10:38:00 AM
Description: Brewers center fielder Carlos Gomez has struggled against Reds starter Homer Bailey, going just 3-for-20 (.150) over his career.
Insight: Gomez is off to a solid start, batting .288 with six homers, 14 RBI, 18 runs and four steals. He leads the NL in total bases (66).
Jean Segura, SS5/1/2014 9:58:00 AM
Description: Milwaukee shortstop Jean Segura is expected to return to the starting lineup for Thursday, according to manager Ron Roenicke.
Insight: He pinch-hit on Tuesday and played an inning in the field on Wednesday. Segura got popped in the face by an errant Ryan Braun swing a couple days ago. He's been a bit of a disappointment so far, batting .236 with one homer, five RBI, 11 runs scored and five steals.
Aramis Ramirez, 3B5/1/2014 9:57:00 AM
Description: Brewers third baseman Aramis Ramirez is probable for Thursday's game against Cincinnati.
Insight: He's been out with a stiff elbow after being hit by a pitch, but said he would return. Ramirez is batting .277 with three homers and 19 RBI.
Mark Reynolds, 1B4/30/2014 7:23:00 PM
Description: Brewers first baseman Mark Reynolds went 1-for-2 with a homer, two walks and two RBI Wednesday at St. Louis.
Insight: Reynolds has six homers this season, though of course he's hitting .224 with 31 Ks in 76 at-bats. The first baseman hit a homer every 15.2 at-bats from 2008-11 and averaged 35 per season in that span, but one every 20.5 at-bats in 2012-13. Obviously, his low batting average was much more tolerable from 2008-11. So far, though, his power is back.
Matt Garza, SP4/30/2014 7:13:00 PM
Description: Brewers starter Matt Garza (thumb) expects to be ready for his next start, according to Adam McCalvy of mlb.com.
Insight: Garza left Wednesday's start with a right thumb contusion, which he suffered during an at-bat in the fourth inning. He allowed five hits, four walks and five earned runs in three innings Wednesday at St. Louis and is 1-3 with a 5.00 ERA and a 1.33 WHIP this season.
Matt Garza, SP4/30/2014 4:00:00 PM
Description: Brewers starter Matt Garza suffered a bruised thumb Wednesday against the Cardinals. SOURCE: Tom Haudricourt, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel
Insight: He had to leave in the bottom of the fourth inning. Garza allowed five runs on five hits before exiting. He also walked four batters. It's unknown if the injury will prevent Garza (1-2, 5.00 ERA) from making his next start Monday versus Arizona.
Jean Segura, SS4/30/2014 11:54:00 AM
Description: Milwaukee shortstop Jean Segura isn't starting Wednesday versus St. Louis. SOURCE: Adam McCalvy, MLB.com
Insight: He pinch-hit on Tuesday and should be healthy enough to do the same on Wednesday. Segura got popped in the face by an errant Ryan Braun swing a couple days ago but he seems to be making good progress in his recovery. Jeff Bianchi (.176, 0 HR, 3 RBI) will draw another start at shortstop for the first-place Brewers.
Aramis Ramirez, 3B4/30/2014 11:51:00 AM
Description: The Brewers will once again be without third baseman Aramis Ramirez Wednesday against the Cardinals. SOURCE: Adam McCalvy, MLB.com
Insight: He's out with a stiff elbow. Power-hitting infielder Mark Reynolds (.216, 5 HR, 9 RBI) will get the nod at third base.
Ryan Braun, RF4/30/2014 11:46:00 AM
Description: Milwaukee right fielder Ryan Braun doesn't appear any closer to returning from a strained oblique. SOURCE: Adam McCalvy, MLB.com
Insight: He isn't starting Wednesday's game against St. Louis. Braun's slow recovery will probably lead to a stint on the disabled list. Fantasy owners shouldn't expect to have him in the lineup anytime soon.
Carlos Gomez, CF4/30/2014 11:18:00 AM
Description: Brewers center fielder Carlos Gomez has had almost no success against Cardinals starter Shelby Miller (1-for-13, five strikeouts).
Insight: The one hit he did have against Miller was only a single. Despite homering in last night's game, Gomez (.288, 6 HR, 14 RBI) has now struck out five times in his last ten at bats. Fantasy owners would be wise to avoid him on Wednesday.
Jean Segura, SS4/30/2014 10:32:00 AM
Description: Brewers shortstop Jean Segura came in as a pinch hitter Tuesday night against St. Louis.
Insight: It was Segura's first appearance since taking a bat to the face Saturday against the Cubs. It's encouraging to see him back so soon, even if it was only for one at bat. He should return to the starting lineup within the next few days.
Jean Segura, SS4/29/2014 5:29:00 PM
Description: Milwaukee shortstop Jean Segura (face) will sit out again Tuesday, according to Adam McCalvy of mlb.com.
Insight: Segura underwent plastic surgery after teammate Ryan Braun accidentally hit him in the face with a bat while taking practice swings in the dugout during Saturday's game. He avoided a concussion and a fracture but sustained a deep gash near his right eye.
Jonathan Lucroy, C4/29/2014 5:28:00 PM
Description: Milwaukee catcher Jonathan Lucroy will get a day off Tuesday, according to Adam McCalvy of mlb.com.
Insight: It's a routine rest day for Lucroy. The catcher is hitting .297 with one homer and eight RBI this season.
Ryan Braun, RF4/29/2014 4:35:00 PM
Description: Brewers right fielder Ryan Braun has an oblique strain rather than an intercostal strain and is not in Tuesday's starting lineup.
Insight: With Aramis Ramirez and Jean Segura also sidelined the Brewers will be hard-pressed to score runs against Lance Lynn.
Aramis Ramirez, 3B4/29/2014 4:30:00 PM
Description: Milwaukee third baseman Aramis Ramirez (elbow) is not in Tuesday's starting lineup against St. Louis.
Insight: Ramirez was hit with two pitches in Monday night's game and left after the second one. The 35-year-old also is mired in a 0-for-19 slump over the past six games.
Yovani Gallardo, SPHot4/28/2014 10:46:00 PM
Description: Brewers starter Yovani Gallardo appeared to jam his right hand while diving back to second base on a pickoff attempt in the top of the sixth, and he immediately allowed two homers in the following half inning.
Insight: It's unclear how much Gallardo was affected by the injury. The 28-year-old finished the inning with 98 pitches and Milwaukee took him out. He has a 1.91 ERA in 37 2/3 innings but has struck out just 25 batters.
Aramis Ramirez, 3BCold4/28/2014 10:40:00 PM
Description: Milwaukee third baseman Aramis Ramirez picked up an RBI in the seventh inning Monday when Cardinals pitcher Pat Neshek hit him with a pitch with the bases loaded, but he also had to leave the game.
Insight: Ramirez took the pitch off his left elbow. The 35-year-old also is mired in a 0-for-19 slump, but that's a lesser concern right now, especially for the Brewers with Ryan Braun (oblique) and Jean Segura (face) already out.
Ryan Braun, RF4/28/2014 6:19:00 PM
Description: Brewers right fielder Ryan Braun has an oblique strain rather than an intercostal strain, according to Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
Insight: The team changed the diagnosis after Sunday's MRI. The Brewers will consider placing him on the DL if he doesn't improve in a few days.
Jean Segura, SS4/28/2014 5:11:00 PM
Description: Milwaukee shortstop Jean Segura (face) is not in the starting lineup Monday, according to Adam McCalvy of mlb.com.
Insight: Segura will need plastic surgery after teammate Ryan Braun accidentally hit him in the face with a bat while taking practice swings in the dugout during Saturday's game. He avoided a concussion and a fracture but sustained a deep gash near his right eye.
Ryan Braun, RF4/28/2014 3:52:00 PM
Description: Brewers right fielder Ryan Braun didn't participate in Sunday's game against Chicago and is not in Monday's starting lineup
Insight: He's out with an intercostal strain and could miss more than just a couple of days. Elian Herrera (.154, 0 HR, 0 RBI) will be filling in at right field, but has no fantasy value.
Jean Segura, SS4/27/2014 1:21:00 PM
Description: As expected, Milwaukee shortstop Jean Segura will not be available Sunday versus the Cubs. SOURCE: Carrie Muskat, MLB.com
Insight: Segura will need plastic surgery after getting hit in the face by teammate Ryan Braun in a dugout accident yesterday at Miller Park. Jeff Bianchi (.238, 0 HR, 3 RBI) will be used at shortstop during Segura's absence.
Ryan Braun, RF4/27/2014 1:14:00 PM
Description: Brewers right fielder Ryan Braun won't participate in Sunday's game against Chicago. SOURCE: Carrie Muskat, MLB.com
Insight: He's out with an intercostal strain. Elian Herrera (.200, 0 HR, 0 RBI) will be filling in at right field.
Jean Segura, SS4/27/2014 9:39:00 AM
Description: Brewers shortstop Jean Segura will have to undergo plastic surgery after getting hit in the face by teammate Ryan Braun Saturday against the Cubs. SOURCE: Tom Haudricourt, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel
Insight: Segura (.239, 1 HR, 5 RBI) got in the way when Braun was taking a warmup swing in the dugout and ended up needing stitches above his right eye. Luckily, he didn't suffer a concussion. Segura is day-to-day.
Ryan Braun, LF4/26/2014 10:33:00 PM
Description: Milwaukee left fielder Ryan Braun has been diagnosed with an intercostal strain. SOURCE: Tom Haudricourt, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel
Insight: What a strange night for Braun. First, he whacks teammate Jean Segura with a warmup swing and now he leaves tonight's game in the ninth with an injury of his own. Braun (.318, 6 HR, 18 RBI) went 1-for-4 before exiting. Consider the five-time All-Star day-to-day.
Jean Segura, SS4/26/2014 8:08:00 PM
Description: Milwaukee shortstop Jean Segura was hit in the face by a Ryan Braun warmup swing Saturday against the Cubs.
Insight: Segura was replaced by Jeff Bianchi (.263, 0 HR, 3 RBI) in the bottom of the first inning. The bat seemed to hit Segura near his right eye. He's likely headed for a concussion test. Stay tuned for an update.
Jean Segura, SSCold4/25/2014 4:02:00 PM
Description: Brewers shortstop Jean Segura will bat eighth in the lineup again.
Insight: Segura isn't off to a great start, batting .247 after a big April last season (.367). Fantasy owners can't be happy with the demotion. We're begining to think what we saw in the second half of 2013 (.241, 1 HR, 13 RBI in 54 games after the break) is what we're going to get in 2014.
Carlos Gomez, CF4/25/2014 11:17:00 AM
Description: Milwaukee center fielder Carlos Gomez should be avoided on Friday due to a poor matchup.
Insight: Gomez is just 1-for-9 and has struck out six times in his matchups with Cubs starter Carlos Villanueva. He also has a three-game suspension hanging over his head, but is appealing and can play until the appeal is heard.
Kyle Lohse, SPHot4/23/2014 11:02:00 PM
Description: Brewers starter Kyle Lohse improved to 4-1 Wednesday with seven strong innings against the Padres.
Insight: Lohse allowed two runs (one earned) on five hits and has a 2.38 ERA, a 1.03 WHIP and a 31/10 K/BB in 34 innings this year (8.21 K/9). He only struck out 5.66 batters per nine innings last year and has a 5.69 K/9 in his career.
Johnny Hellweg, SP4/22/2014 6:29:00 PM
Description: An MRI revealed a torn UCL in the elbow of Brewers pitching prospect Johnny Hellweg, according to Adam McCalvy of mlb.com.
Insight: MLB.com ranked the right-hander as Milwaukee's No. 7 prospect prior to the season. He had a 4.95 ERA and a 1.80 WHIP in his first 20 innings with Triple-A Nashville this year.
Martin Maldonado, C4/22/2014 6:21:00 PM
Description: Brewers catcher Martin Maldonado will not appeal his five-game suspension. Maldonado was involved in Sunday's bench-clearing brawl with Pittsburgh. SOURCE: Brewers on Twitter
Insight: Maldonado was given the longest ban of the four players suspended for Sunday's incident. His absence means more playing time for Jonathan Lucroy (.313, 1 HR, 7 RBI) behind the plate.
Carlos Gomez, CF4/22/2014 3:52:00 PM
Description: Milwaukee center fielder Carlos Gomez has been suspended three games by Major League Baseball but will appeal the ruling. SOURCE: Jon Morosi, Fox Sports
Insight: He was involved in a bench-clearing brawl Sunday against Pittsburgh. Gomez has been excellent this season, batting .313 with five homers, 12 RBI, 14 runs and a couple steals. Eventually he'll miss a few games, but not tonight.
Khris Davis, LF4/20/2014 9:19:00 PM
Description: Milwaukee left fielder Khris Davis saved the best for last Sunday in a 14-inning win over Pittsburgh.
Insight: His game-winning solo shot in the 14th traveled 398 feet. That was Davis' first home run of the season. He hasn't gotten off to a great start (.258 AVG in 66 at bats) but we're confident Davis will find his swing sooner rather than later.
Carlos Gomez, CF 4/20/2014 2:39:00 PM
Description: Milwaukee center fielder Carlos Gomez was ejected from Sunday's game against the Pirates.
Insight: Gerrit Cole took exception to Gomez admiring a ball he thought was a homer and yelled at him when he raced into third base. The benches cleared and Gomez broke free from an umpire's grasp to throw a punch at Travis Snider.
Aramis Ramirez, 3BHot4/20/2014 11:44:00 AM
Description: Milwaukee third baseman Aramis Ramirez was hit in the arm by a pitch in the ninth inning Saturday night, but he's fine. His day off on Sunday was already planned and unrelated to the HBP, according to Adam McCalvy of mlb.com.
Insight: Ramirez has driven in 15 runs in 18 games this season and is batting .352 with an .860 OPS. Jeff Bianchi is starting at third.
Francisco Rodriguez, RPHot4/19/2014 10:24:00 PM
Description: Brewers closer Francisco Rodriguez hs six saves, 13 Ks and two walks in nine innings this season.
Insight: K-Rod has allowed just three hits and zero runs. Manager Ron Roenicke turned to him to close after Jim Henderson struggled in spring training, but he said he planned to go back to Henderson once he got back on track. Henderson has 10 Ks and a 3.86 ERA in seven innings, but Rodriguez has been flawless and hasn't given Roenicke a chance to take him out of the role.
Mark Reynolds, 1B4/19/2014 10:19:00 PM
Description: Brewers first baseman Mark Reynolds hit his fourth homer of the sesaon Saturday at Pittsburgh.
Insight: Reynolds starts against lefties as part of a first-base platoon with Lyle Overbay. Reynold's numbers are nothing out of the ordinary for the slugger -- .208 average, four homers, 19 Ks in 48 at-bats.
Jonathan Lucroy, CHot4/19/2014 10:18:00 PM
Description: Milwaukee catcher Jonathan Lucroy had three doubles and two RBI Saturday against the Pirates.

Ryan Braun, LFHot4/19/2014 10:17:00 PM
Description: Brewers left fielder Ryan Braun went 3-for-5 with two home runs, three RBI and four runs Saturday at Pittsburgh.
Insight: He came in with great numbers against Wandy Rodriguez but actually hit both homers off Pittsburgh's bullpen. All five of Braun's homers this season have come in his two multi-homer games.
Aramis Ramirez, 3BHot4/19/2014 10:35:00 AM
Description: Milwaukee third baseman Aramis Ramirez is batting .368 (21-for-57) with two home runs against Wandy Rodriguez.
Insight: He's off to a great start, batting .358 with 14 RBI so seems primed to take advantage of this matchup.
Ryan Braun, LF4/19/2014 10:33:00 AM
Description: Brewers left fielder Ryan Braun is a career .383 hitter with four homers and a 1.271 OPS versus Pittsburgh lefty Wandy Rodriguez.
Insight: Other than one huge series in Philadelphia (three homers and 10 RBI in a three-game set) he has done little in the other 12 games, but this matchup might get him going. Or not.
Jonathan Lucroy, C4/18/2014 10:09:00 AM
Description: Milwaukee catcher Jonathan Lucroy is just 1-for-12 (.083) against Pittsburgh starter Charlie Morton.
Insight: Lucroy is off to a good start, batting .321 with an .879 OPS, but this matchup should be avoided.
Ryan Braun, LF4/18/2014 10:06:00 AM
Description: Brewers left fielder Ryan Braun is a career .467 hitter with a 1.356 OPS versus Pittsburgh right-hander Charlie Morton.
Insight: Braun did most of his damage this season in one huge series in Philadelphia (all three homers and all 10 RBI came in the three-game set) and has done little in the other 11 games, but this matchup might get him going.
Jonathan Lucroy, C4/18/2014 4:25:00 AM
Description: Milwaukee catcher Jonathan Lucroy is just 1-for-12 (.083) against Pittsburgh starter Charlie Morton.
Insight: Lucroy is off to a good start, batting .321 with an .879 OPS, but this matchup should be avoided. Update - Lucroy is not in Friday night's starting lineup.
Jean Segura, SSCold4/17/2014 10:20:00 AM
Description: Brewers shortstop Jean Segura is hitless in nine at-bats versus Pirates starter Edinson Volquez.
Insight: Segura isn't off to a great start, batting .211 after a big April last season (.367). We're begining to think what we saw in the second half of 2013 (.241, 1 HR, 13 RBI in 54 games after the break) is what we're going to get in 2014. He's also been caught stealing a league-high three times already.
Jonathan Lucroy, C4/17/2014 10:16:00 AM
Description: Milwaukee catcher Jonathan Lucroy is just 3-for-19 (.158) against Pittsburgh starter Edinson Volquez.
Insight: Lucroy is off to a good start, batting .302 with an .845 OPS, but this matchup should be avoided.
Aramis Ramirez, 3BHot4/15/2014 11:23:00 AM
Description: Milwaukee third baseman Aramis Ramirez is batting .500 (5-for-10) with a home run against Cardinals right-hander Shelby Miller.
Insight: He's off to a great start, batting .358 with 11 RBI so seems primed to take advantage of this matchup.
Jean Segura, SSCold4/15/2014 11:20:00 AM
Description: Brewers shortstop Jean Segura is hitless in 12 at-bats versus Cardinals' young right-hander Shelby Miller.
Insight: Segura isn't off to a great start, batting .261 after a big April last season (.367). We're begining to think what we saw in the second half of 2013 (.241, 1 HR, 13 RBI in 54 games after the break) is what we're going to get in 2014. He's also been caught stealing a league-high three times already.
Khris Davis, LF4/14/2014 6:48:00 PM
Description: Brewers left fielder Khris Davis is not in the starting lineup for the second straight day Monday against the Cardinals.
Insight: Davis is hitting .279 with five doubles so far, but he has 14 Ks and zero homers in 43 at-bats. Logan Schafer will get another start.
Aramis Ramirez, 3B4/14/2014 10:10:00 AM
Description: Milwaukee third baseman Aramis Ramirez is batting just .125 (2-for-16) against Cardinals right-hander Lance Lynn.
Insight: He's off to a great start, batting .380 with 11 RBI, but this is an unfavorable matchup.
Kyle Lohse, SP4/13/2014 8:53:00 PM
Description: Brewers starter Kyle Lohse tossed 8 2/3 innings, allowed one run on four hits and had a 9/0 K/BB Sunday against the Pirates.
Insight: Lohse is 2-1 with a 3.05 ERA and a 1.11 WHIP and the Brewers are somehow an MLB-best 10-2.
Jonathan Lucroy, C4/13/2014 11:31:00 AM
Description: Milwaukee catcher Jonathan Lucroy will take a breather Sunday against Pittsburgh. SOURCE: Andrew Gruman, Fox Sports Wisconsin
Insight: It looks like a wise decision as Lucroy (.357, 1 HR, 2 RBI) has just one hit in 12 career at bats versus Pirates right-hander Charlie Morton. Today the Brew Crew will go for its third sweep in a row. Milwaukee's 9-2 record through 11 games leads all of Major League Baseball.
Jonathan Lucroy, C4/12/2014 10:22:00 AM
Description: Brewers catcher Jonathan Lucroy is just 2-for-16 (.125) versus Pirates starter Edinson Volquez.
Insight: Lucroy is off to a quick start, batting .342 through the first 10 games. He's become one of the most reliable fantasy catchers, but Saturday's matchup should be avoided.
Ryan Braun, LFHot4/12/2014 10:20:00 AM
Description: Brewers left fielder Ryan Braun is a career .357 hitter with a .955 OPS versus Pittsburgh right-hander Edinson Volquez.
Insight: Braun is coming off a huge series in Philadelphia (3 HR, 10 RBI). He's also 5-for-5 in stolen base attempts against Volquez.
Carlos Gomez, CFHot4/11/2014 10:10:00 AM
Description: Milwaukee center fielder Carlos Gomez is a career .500 hitter with a pair of homers versus Pittsburgh left-hander Francisco Liriano.
Insight: Gomez is on fire, batting .390 with three homers and a 1.164 OPS through the first nine games. He comes off a series in Philadelphia where he went 8-for-16 with five extra base hits. All these numbers means he's a must start on Friday.
Khris Davis, LFHot4/10/2014 10:07:00 PM
Description: Brewers left fielder Khris Davis has gone 12-for-28 (.429) with five doubles over his last six games.
Insight: Davis is still looking for his first big fly after hitting 11 in just 136 at-bats last year, but fantasy owners should be satisfied with his production so far.
Carlos Gomez, CFHot4/10/2014 10:06:00 PM
Description: Milwaukee center fielder Carlos Gomez stayed hot with three hits Thursday at Philadelphia.
Insight: Gomez hit his first triple of the season and now has a .390 average with seven extra-base hits in 41 at-bats.
Marco Estrada, SP4/10/2014 10:03:00 PM
Description: Brewers starter Marco Estrada threw six innings, struck out six and allowed two runs to beat the Phillies Thursday.
Insight: Estrada (1-0, 2.31 ERA, 12/5 K/BB) owns a 3.35 ERA in 201 1/3 career innings after the All-Star break compared to a 4.89 ERA in 200 2/3 innings before the break, so it's good to see him get off to a good start.
Travis Ishikawa, 1B4/10/2014 10:39:00 AM
Description: Pirates 1B Travis Ishikawa (.238, 1 HR, 3 RBI) will sit on Thursday in favor of Gaby Sanchez.
Insight: This is not the time to try Sanchez as he's just 1-for-12 with four strikeouts versus Cubs starter Travis Wood.
Ryan Braun, LFHot4/10/2014 10:07:00 AM
Description: Brewers left fielder Ryan Braun is a career .435 hitter with three home runs and a 1.304 OPS versus Phillies ace left-hander Cliff Lee.
Insight: Braun is 4-for-9 with three homers and nine RBI in the first two games of the series. He's always loved hitting in Citizen Bank Park (.398, 10 HR, 23 RBI, 1.294 OPS in 21 games). Make him a must start on Thursday.
Aramis Ramirez, 3B4/9/2014 10:58:00 PM
Description: Milwaukee third baseman Aramis Ramirez is batting .400 in 35 at-bats this season.
Insight: He's 14-for-35 with seven RBI but only has one extra-base hit and no home runs.
Carlos Gomez, CF4/9/2014 10:56:00 PM
Description: Milwaukee center fielder Carlos Gomez went 3-for-5 with a double, a homer and two runs Wednesday at Philadelphia.
Insight: Gomez now has three big flies this year and is hitting .361, though with 10 Ks in 36 at-bats his average will soon fall.
Jean Segura, SS4/9/2014 10:55:00 PM
Description: Brewers shortstop Jean Segura has gone 7-for-13 over his last three games.
Insight: Segura is batting .320 with a double, a triple, and three steals so far.
Ryan Braun, LF4/8/2014 7:48:00 PM
Description: Brewers left fielder Ryan Braun corked three homers Tuesday in a blowout win over Philadelphia.
Insight: So much for that sore thumb. Braun's seven RBI were a career-high. Braun entered today's action with just three hits in his first 20 at bats (.150 AVG). We'll have to see which Braun shows up Wednesday against Roberto Hernandez (1-0, 3.38 ERA).
Yovani Gallardo, SPHot4/6/2014 4:42:00 PM
Description: Milwaukee starter Yovani Gallardo threw all zeros Sunday in a win over Boston (6 2/3 IP, 7 H, 0 R, 3 K's).
Insight: The 28-year-old hasn't allowed a run in 12 2/3 innings this season. The Brewers outscored the Red Sox 17-8 during their three-game sweep.
Jean Segura, SS4/6/2014 10:59:00 AM
Description: Brewers shortstop Jean Segura will not play Sunday, according to Adam McCalvy of mlb.com.
Insight: Segura went 3-for-6 with a steal in Saturday's 11-inning affair against the Red Sox and is hitting .222 this season. This is already his second day off of the season, likely because he dealt with a shoulder injury during spring training.
Ryan Braun, LF4/6/2014 10:52:00 AM
Description: Milwaukee outfielder Ryan Braun (thumb) is in the lineup Sunday in spite of a right thumb injury that is preventing him from properly gripping the bat. SOURCE: Tom Haudricourt, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel
Insight: Braun hit .417 during spring training but his thumb condition has worsened since the season began. He admitted he cannot keep two hands on the bat when he makes contact due to numbness caused by nerve damage. The outfielder also dealt with issues in that thumb last season and said it never fully healed even though he was suspended for the last 65 games of the season. Fantasy owners should be very concerned, as the injury may require surgery if it doesn't improve soon.
Ryan Braun, LF4/6/2014 10:09:00 AM
Description: Milwaukee outfielder Ryan Braun (thumb) admitted that he cannot keep two hands on the bat due to numbness in his right thumb caused by nerve damage, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
Insight: Braun hit .417 during spring training but his thumb condition has worsened since the season began. The outfielder also dealt with issues in that thumb last season and said it never fully healed even though he was suspended for the last 65 games of the season. Fantasy owners should be very concerned, as the injury may require surgery if it doesn't improve soon.
Jonathan Lucroy, C4/5/2014 4:15:00 PM
Description: Brewers catcher Jonathan Lucroy is not catching in Saturday's starting lineup. Martin Maldonado will get his first at-bats of the season. Lucroy will DH.
Insight: Lucroy is off to a quick start, batting .462 through the first four games. He's one of the most reliable fantasy catchers. He batted .280 with 18 HR, 82 RBI and an .795 OPS last season.
Ryan Braun, LF4/5/2014 3:44:00 PM
Description: Milwaukee outfielder Ryan Braun (thumb) is not in the starting lineup Saturday against the Red Sox, according to Adam McCalvy of mlb.com.
Insight: McCalvy reported Friday that Braun was experiencing numbness in his right thumb, the same one that gave him issues last season. He has started off 1-for-16 (.063) and fantasy owners should be very concerned about the thumb injury, as it may require surgery.
Carlos Gomez, CF4/4/2014 9:48:00 PM
Description: Milwaukee center fielder Carlos Gomez delivered four hits Friday in a win over Boston.
Insight: Gomez (6-for-14) was one of nine players in MLB with at least 20 steals and 20 HR last season. Don't be surprised if he repeats that feat in 2014.
Mark Reynolds, 1B4/4/2014 9:32:00 AM
Description: Mark Reynolds has never done much against Boston right-hander Jake Peavy and should not be started.
Insight: Reynolds is just 3-for-20 with 11 strikeouts and no extra base hits. Avoid.
Matt Garza, SP4/2/2014 7:56:00 PM
Description: Matt Garza had a no-hitter for 6 2/3 innings in his Brewers debut Wednesday but gave up a homer to Chris Johnson and ended up with a 1-0 loss.
Insight: Garza gave up two hits and struck out seven in eight innings. The right-hander should be thrilled to be back in the National League -- he had a 3.17 ERA and a 1.14 WHIP in 71 innings with the Cubs last season, compared to 4.38 and 1.32 with the Rangers.
Jean Segura, SS4/2/2014 11:25:00 AM
Description: Brewers shortstop Jean Segura is not in the starting lineup for Wednesday's game against Atlanta.
Insight: Segura is just getting a day of rest. He's hitless through the first two games of the season. After a huge first half of the season (.325) he stumbled to the finish line batting .241 over the final 54 games. Hopefully he can find his first-half swing.
Aramis Ramirez, 3B4/2/2014 9:55:00 AM
Description: Milwaukee third baseman Aramis Ramirez has five career home runs against Atlanta starter Aaron Harang.
Insight: For Ramirez, that's the most against any active pitcher. He's a career .333 hitter versus Harang and went 2-for-3 in his season opener.
Carlos Gomez, CF4/1/2014 11:01:00 PM
Description: Brewers center fielder Carlos Gomez hit a solo homer and stole a base Tuesday against the Braves.
Insight: Gomez did plenty of both last season, hitting 24 homers and swiping 40 bags. He has been moved to leadoff this season to replace the departed Norichika Aoki so he'll have fewer RBI chances but should score more runs.
Jim Henderson, SP4/1/2014 8:00:00 PM
Description: According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Brewers manager Ron Roenicke reiterated that Jim Henderson will take back the closer role from Francisco Rodriguez once he gets his stuff back on track.
Insight: "We want him as our closer," Roenicke said. "That's what we want." Henderson struggled with his velocity and mechanics this spring and had a 6.00 ERA in nine innings. He said he feels fine physically.
Yovani Gallardo, SP3/31/2014 9:13:00 PM
Description: Yovani Gallardo blanked the Braves over six innings Monday to win Milwaukee's season opener.
Insight: Gallardo had a 2.41 ERA over his final 52 1/3 innings to get his season ERA down to 4.18, but he finished with just 144 Ks in 180 2/3 frames after fanning 200+ batters in each of the previous four years. The main culprit was a decline in fastball velocity down to 90.7 mph. His fastball sat in the 88-90 range Monday.
Francisco Rodriguez, RP3/31/2014 6:07:00 PM
Description: According to Adam McCalvy of mlb.com, Brewers manager Ron Roenicke said after Monday's season opener that Francisco Rodriguez will close for now.
Insight: Roenicke went to K-Rod for the save Monday. He said he wants to give Jim Henderson time to get his stuff back after Henderson allowed six earned runs and walked five in nine innings this spring.
Jean Segura, SS3/30/2014 5:46:00 PM
Description: Brewers shortstop Jean Segura (shoulder) will be on the active roster to start the season, according to Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
Insight: Segura hasn't played in more than a week but should be in the Opening Day lineup. The shortstop batted .294 last season with double-digit doubles, triples and homers, but did fade in the second half.
Mark Reynolds, 1B3/29/2014 10:39:00 AM
Description: Mark Reynolds has been named to Milwaukee's Opening Day roster.
Insight: Reynolds, who seems to wind up on a new team each year, hit .226 this spring with 2 HR and 11 RBI in 53 at bats. He and Lyle Overbay are going to platoon at first base. Reynolds (.236, 6 HR, 19 RBI for the Yankees in 2013) should play whenever the Brewers have to face a left-handed starting pitcher.
Jean Segura, SS3/27/2014 2:50:00 PM
Description: Brewers shortstop Jean Segura (shoulder) played catch on Thursday, according to Adam McCalvy of mlb.com.
Insight: Segura hasn't played in more than a week and is questionable for Opening Day, but probably won't need a DL stint. The shortstop batted .294 last season with double-digit doubles, triples and homers, but did fade in the second half.
Jean Segura, SS3/26/2014 12:20:00 PM
Description: Brewers shortstop Jean Segura still can't play the field due to soreness in his shoulder, according to Adam McCalvy of mlb.com.
Insight: Segura hasn't played in more than a week and is iffy for Opening Day. The shortstop hit just .236 with one home run and a .577 OPS in his last 50 games last season after starting out with a .324 average and 11 home runs over his first 96.
Juan Francisco, 3B3/24/2014 3:54:00 PM
Description: First baseman Juan Francisco was released by the Milwaukee, reports Mike Vassallo of the Brewers.
Insight: Francisco jumped off to a quick start last April, batting .297 with four homers and 11 RBI, but could hit his weight the rest of the way. He finished at .227 with 18 HR and 48 RBI, but was beaten out this spring by Lyle Overbay and Mark Reynolds.
Carlos Gomez, CF3/22/2014 4:07:00 PM
Description: Brewers manager Ron Roenicke announced that Carlos Gomez will be the Brewers leadoff hitter.
Insight: Fantasy-wise it will hurt his RBI total (73 last season), but the rest of his game should be uneffected. He was a fantasy stud last season, batting .284 with 24 HR, 80 runs and 40 SB to go along with the RBIs.
Francisco Rodriguez, RP3/13/2014 5:18:00 PM
Description: Brewers reliever Francisco Rodriguez stepped on a cactus while playing with his son on Tuesday night and won't make his spring debut until next week, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
Insight: K-Rod was still getting spines removed from his foot Thursday. He arrived late to camp because of visa issues. He'll serve as a setup man to Jim Henderson this season.
Yovani Gallardo, SP3/13/2014 2:46:00 PM
Description: Brewers starter Yovani Gallardo will get the ball on Opening Day, announced manager Ron Roenicke.
Insight: Gallardo has started five consecutive season openers, but his fantasy value was mediocre last season ... at best. He was 12-10 with a high 4.18 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and just 144 Ks in 180.2 IP. He was a strike-per-inning guy the previous four seasons.
Aramis Ramirez, 3B3/8/2014 9:33:00 PM
Description: Milwaukee third baseman Aramis Ramirez made his spring debut Saturday and went 2-for-2 with three RBI. He had surgery to remove a non-malignant polyp from his colon in February, putting him behind schedule in spring training.
Insight: A nagging left knee injury bothered Ramirez last season from spring training on and limited him to 92 games, but he was solid when he played. The veteran hit .283 with 12 home runs, 49 RBI, 43 runs and an .831 OPS and is one year removed from batting .300 with 27 blasts, 105 RBI, 92 runs and a .900 OPS.
Aramis Ramirez, 3B2/19/2014 12:44:00 PM
Description: Milwaukee third baseman Aramis Ramirez had surgery to remove a non-malignant polyp from his colon and will be a few days behind at the start of spring training games, according to Adam McCalvy of mlb.com.
Insight: A nagging left knee injury bothered Ramirez from spring training on and limited him to 92 games last season, but he was solid when he played. The veteran hit .283 with 12 home runs, 49 RBI, 43 runs and an .831 OPS and is one year removed from batting .300 with 27 blasts, 105 RBI, 92 runs and a .900 OPS.
Francisco Rodriguez, RP2/7/2014 9:19:00 PM
Description: Francisco Rodriguez is returning to the Brewers on a one-year contract.
Insight: K-Rod will earn $3.25 million in 2014. Rodriguez saved ten games for the Brewers last season before being acquired by Baltimore just before the trade deadline. Jim Henderson will be first in line for saves so Rodriguez isn't a must-own.
Matt Garza, SP1/26/2014 3:21:00 PM
Description: The Brewers have finalized a four-year, $50 million contract with Matt Garza, according to Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. The deal was reported by Ken Rosenthal a few days ago but the official announcement was delayed.
Insight: Garza will benefit from a return to the NL Central after posting a 4.38 ERA and a 1.32 WHIP in 84 1/3 innings with the Texas Rangers last season following a trade from the Chicago Cubs. Garza has recorded an ERA of 3.91 or lower in each of the last seven seasons but only once had one lower than 3.69 (3.32 in 2011).
Matt Garza, SP1/23/2014 1:42:00 PM
Description: Righthander Matt Garza has agreed to a four-year, $52 million deal with Milwaukee, according to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports.
Insight: The deal is pending a physical which is not a given with Garza, particularly with the elbow issues he's experienced over the last few seasons. Garza was 10-6 last season with a 3.82 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 136 Ks in 155 1/3 IP.
Mark Reynolds, DH1/17/2014 11:25:00 AM
Description: Infielder Mark Reynolds has been signed by the Milwaukee Brewers to a minor league contract, but is expected to make the Opening Day roster, according to beat writerTom Haudricourt.
Insight: If Reynolds shows anything in spring training he could see a lot of the workload at first base and even backup Aramis Ramirez at third. We know he has power, but he'll have to work on making more consistent contact. He hasn't seen a batting average above .221 since 2009.
Ryan Braun, LF11/27/2013 1:54:00 PM
Description: Milwaukee outfielder Ryan Braun said he'd be open to playing right field next season. SOURCE: Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel
Insight: Wednesday marked Braun's first public comments since getting suspended for performance enhancing drugs in July. Moving to right would solidify Khris Davis' place in the starting lineup, though it wouldn't have much of an impact on Braun's output. Braun, a third baseman early in his career, said he would not be open to playing that position again.
Norichika Aoki, RF10/29/2013 7:50:00 PM
Description: Milwaukee will exercise its team option on right fielder Norichika Aoki.
Insight: The Brewers' beat writer for MLB.com Adam McCalvy called the move a "no-brainer." We're not ready to go that far but Aoki certainly has a knack for getting on base (.355 career OBP in 306 major league appearances). You could make a case for him being drafted in one of the later rounds of next year's fantasy draft.
Carlos Gomez, CF10/19/2013 3:07:00 PM
Description: Brewers center fielder Carlos Gomez had minor surgery to remove some "loose bodies" in his right elbow. SOURCE: Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel
Insight: Fantasy-wise, it's a non-issue. Gomez was spectacular this season and he should continue to be a four-category stud (AVG, SLUG, HR and SB) in 2014.
