Brett Anderson, SP4/17/2014 8:02:00 PM
Description: Colorado left-hander Brett Anderson had surgery to repair a broken finger on Thursday. SOURCE: Patrick Saunders, Denver Post
Insight: His recovery timetable is still 4-to-6 weeks. Franklin Morales (0-1, 5.09 ERA) has taken Anderson's place in the starting rotation.
Carlos Gonzalez, LFCold4/17/2014 7:14:00 PM
Description: Colorado left fielder Carlos Gonzalez wasn't in the starting lineup Thursday against San Diego. SOURCE: Denver Post
Insight: Gonzalez has never done well against Padres right-hander Ian Kennedy (.138 AVG in 29 at bats). Corey Dickerson (.125, 0 HR, 0 RBI) got the start in left field.
Carlos Gonzalez, LF4/17/2014 10:08:00 AM
Description: Rockies left fielder Carlos Gonzalez is a career .138 hitter (4-for-29) versus Padres starter Ian Kennedy with 13 strikeouts.
Insight: Historically, Gonzalez's worst month is April (.843 OPS), but he's off to a better start this year, batting .283 with four homers and a .915 OPS. This matchup should probably be avoided.
Juan Nicasio, SP4/16/2014 10:03:00 AM
Description: Rockies hurler Juan Nicasio improved to 2-0 with six solid innings Tuesday at San Diego.
Insight: Nicasio has a 3.50 ERA and a 1.22 WHIP in 18 innings this season. The right-hander's career FIP is 3.98 but his ERA is nearly a full run higher at 4.83 due to a career 67.5 percent strand rate. He has stranded 72.8 percent of baserunners this season.
Michael Cuddyer, RF4/15/2014 6:43:00 PM
Description: Colorado right fielder Michael Cuddyer will start Tuesday night's game against the Padres. SOURCE: Rockies PR on Twitter

Tyler Chatwood, SP4/13/2014 9:44:00 PM
Description: Rockies pitcher Tyler Chatwood (hamstring) allowed four runs on six hits in six innings in his 2014 debut Sunday at San Francisco.
Insight: Chatwood was on the disabled list with a minor hamstring strain. The right-hander had one of the highest ground-ball rates in the majors last season and allowed just five home runs while posting a 3.15 ERA in 111 1/3 innings. However, he had a 6-7 GB/FB on Sunday and gave up a homer to Pablo Sandoval. He's really an NL-only option at best.
Wilin Rosario, C4/13/2014 9:42:00 PM
Description: Rockies catcher Wilin Rosario hit his first homer of the season Sunday at San Francisco.
Insight: Rosario missed Friday's game due to a left wrist strain but it looks like he's fine. He caught all 19 innings the last two days.
Brett Anderson, SP4/13/2014 7:32:00 PM
Description: Rockies starter Brett Anderson has a broken left finger, according to Troy Renck of the Denver Post.
Insight: Anderson will likely miss four-to-six weeks. The left-hander was frequently hurt in Oakland from 2009-13 and the move to Colorado hasn't changed anything. Franklin Morales will take his spot in the rotation.
Brett Anderson, SP4/13/2014 4:07:00 PM
Description: Rockies starter Brett Anderson's left finger was feeling worse than expected Sunday and he may be placed on the disabled list. SOURCE: Troy Renck, Denver Post.
Insight: Brett Anderson is injured? You don't say. That was the case so often in Oakland from 2009-13, when Anderson had a 3.81 ERA and a 1.28 WHIP but averaged just 90 innings per season. He was pulled from Saturday's start at San Francisco after three innings due to the finger injury and woke up with swelling on Sunday.
Brett Anderson, SP4/12/2014 6:06:00 PM
Description: Rockies starter Brett Anderson had to leave Saturday's game against the Giants after suffering a finger injury. SOURCE: Andrew Baggarly, Comcast Sportsnet Bay Area
Insight: Anderson (0-2, 3.60 ERA) has already been diagnosed with a bruised left index finger. He allowed just one hit in three shutout innings before exiting. We'll see if he's able to make his next start scheduled for Thursday against San Diego.
Wilin Rosario, C4/12/2014 3:19:00 PM
Description: A left wrist strain kept Rockies catcher Wilin Rosario out of the lineup on Friday, but he's back behind the plate for Saturday afternoon.
Insight: Rosario suffered the injury while sliding on Tuesday. He's off to a .233 start with zero homers. he's averaged 24.5 homers over the past two seasons and if healthy should continue at that pace.
Troy Tulowitzki, SS4/12/2014 3:17:00 PM
Description: Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki (quad) did not play Friday, but fantasy owners hope he'll be ready for Saturday because of a favorable matchup. Update: He's in the starting lineup
Insight: Tulowitzki (.393, 1 HR, 5 RBI) is a career .328 hitter (19-for-58) with four homers and a 1.046 OPS against Giants starter Matt Cain.
Michael Cuddyer, 1B4/12/2014 1:30:00 PM
Description: Rockies right fielder Michael Cuddyer is not in Saturday afternoon's starting lineup.
Insight: Cuddyer is off to another good start, batting .386 with 3 homers and 10 RBI. Cuddyer hit .331 with 20 homers, 84 RBI and a .919 OPS last season - so its not a fluke.
Carlos Gonzalez, LF4/12/2014 10:14:00 AM
Description: Rockies left fielder Carlos Gonzalez is a career .098 hitter (4-for-41) versus San Francisco Giants right-hander Matt Cain.
Insight: Gonzalez is off to a quick start, batting .375 with four homers, 13 RBI and a league-leading .800 slugging percentage. Saturday, however, is a poor matchup.
Troy Tulowitzki, SS4/12/2014 10:08:00 AM
Description: Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki (quad) did not play Friday, but fantasy owners hope he'll be ready for Saturday because of a favorable matchup.

Tyler Chatwood, SP4/11/2014 8:31:00 PM
Description: Rockies pitcher Tyler Chatwood (hamstring) will start Sunday against the Giants, according to Troy Renck of the Denver Post.
Insight: Chatwood has been on the disabled list with a minor hamstring strain. The right-hander had one of the highest ground-ball rates in the majors last season and allowed just five home runs while posting a 3.15 ERA in 111 1/3 innings. However, he had a 1.43 WHIP and just 66 Ks.
Wilin Rosario, C4/11/2014 7:59:00 PM
Description: A left wrist strain is keeping Rockies catcher Wilin Rosario out of the lineup Friday, according to Troy Renck of the Denver Post.
Insight: Rosario suffered the injury while sliding on Tuesday. He's off to a .233 start with zero homers. Jordan Pacheco is doing the catching for Jorge De La Rosa Friday
Wilin Rosario, C4/11/2014 7:09:00 PM

Insight: Jordan Pacheco is doing the catching for Jorge De La Rosa. Rosario is off to a .233 start with zero homers.
Troy Tulowitzki, SS4/11/2014 7:02:00 PM
Description: Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki (quad) will not play Friday, according to Thomas Harding of mlb.com. He was initially in the starting lineup.
Insight: Tulowitzki (.407, 1 HR, 5 RBI) will miss his second straight game due to right quad tightness in hopes that he can play both games this weekend.
Justin Morneau, 1B4/11/2014 6:15:00 PM
Description: Rockies first baseman Justin Morneau is getting Friday's game off to rest with left-hander Madison Bumgarner on the mound for San Francisco, the team announced.
Insight: Morneau doesn't have a home run yet but is hitting .387 with two doubles, two RBI, three walks and just two Ks in 31 at-bats.
Carlos Gonzalez, LFHot4/11/2014 10:25:00 AM
Description: Rockies left fielder Carlos Gonzalez is a career .367 hitter with four homers and a 1.308 OPS versus Giants left-hander Madison Bumgarner.
Insight: Those numbers fly in the face of Gonzalez's career statistics which show he's just a .281 hitter with a .798 OPS versus left-handers. Cargo is batting .389 this season with three homers and 11 RBI. Its ok to start him in this lefty vs. left matchup.
Charlie Blackmon, RFHot4/9/2014 8:02:00 PM
Description: Colorado right fielder Charlie Blackmon stayed hot with three hits Wednesday against the White Sox.
Insight: One of the hits was a triple. Blackmon is 16-for-34 (.471) with six extra-base hits, eight RBI, seven runs and two steals.
Troy Tulowitzki, SS4/9/2014 1:17:00 PM
Description: Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki won't start Wednesday's game against Chicago. SOURCE: ESPN Denver
Insight: Tulowitzki (.407, 1 HR, 5 RBI) strained his quad Monday but was able to play yesterday without issue. We'll consider this a maintenance day for the three-time All-Star until we hear otherwise.
Troy Tulowitzki, SS4/8/2014 7:28:00 PM
Description: Colorado shortstop Troy Tulowitzki will play through a quad injury Tuesday against Chicago. SOURCE: Denver Post
Insight: Tulowitzki (.417, 1 HR, 3 RBI) left Monday's game early but it's nothing fantasy owners should be concerned about. He's off to a great start and should be started in all formats.
Carlos Gonzalez, LF4/8/2014 5:56:00 PM
Description: Rockies left fielder Carlos Gonzalez will get a night off Tuesday against the White Sox.
Insight: Gonzalez has hit safely in all eight games this season and is batting .355 with three homers, nine RBI, eight runs and two steals. Injuries are the only thing that can prevent him from being a top-10 overall fantasy option.
Carlos Gonzalez, LF4/7/2014 10:23:00 AM
Description: Rockies left fielder Carlos Gonzalez is hitless in seven at-bats versus White Sox starter Felipe Paulino.
Insight: Gonzalez is a career .309 hitter versus all right-handers, so this matchup goes against his normal production numbers. "Cargo" has started off well, batting .346 and leading the NL in runs scored (7), but perhaps you should look elsewhere for Monday.
Wilin Rosario, C4/6/2014 9:55:00 AM
Description: Rockies catcher Wilin Rosario should have a good day Sunday against the Diamondbacks and left-hander Wade Miley.
Insight: Rosario has gone 6-for-14 (.429) with one double and one homer against Miley. The Colorado backstop is still on the hunt for his first HR of 2014.
Troy Tulowitzki, SS4/5/2014 5:04:00 PM
Description: Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki is not in the starting lineup Saturday, according to Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post.
Insight: Tulowitzki is getting the night off and will be back in the starting lineup Sunday.
Troy Tulowitzki, SS4/5/2014 10:31:00 AM
Description: Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki is 5-for-9 (.556) with a homer and a 1.556 OPS versus Arizona right-hander Brandon McCarthy.
Insight: Tulowitzki is off to a solid start, batting .333 and has a favorable matchup.
Charlie Blackmon, RF4/4/2014 9:40:00 PM
Description: Colorado right fielder Charlie Blackmon collected six hits Friday in a 12-2 rout of Arizona.
Insight: By all accounts, Blackmon had the game of his life on Friday. He finished with five RBI and was a triple shy of the cycle. His .563 AVG through three games is fourth-best in the major leagues.
Charlie Blackmon, CF4/3/2014 11:02:00 AM
Description: Rockies outfielder Charlie Blackmon will get Thursday afternoon off.
Insight: Blackmon has three hits in the first three games and should be back in the lineup on Friday.
Corey Dickerson, LF4/3/2014 10:57:00 AM
Description: Rockies outfielder Corey Dickerson will leadoff and start in center Thursday afternoon.
Insight: Dickerson, who has just one at-bat this season, will replace Charlie Blackmon.
Carlos Gonzalez, LF4/2/2014 10:04:00 PM
Description: Rockies left fielder Carlos Gonzalez left Wednesday's game due to dizziness, according to Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post.
Insight: Gonzalez went 1-for-3 with a double, an RBI and a run scored. He has picked up one RBI and scored one run in all three games this season. The Rockies have a quick turnaround and play at 12:40 p.m. ET Thursday so CarGo probably won't play.
Wilin Rosario, C4/2/2014 6:36:00 PM
Description: Rockies catcher Wilin Rosario will get a night off Wednesday at Miami.
Insight: Rosario started the first two games behind the plate and went 1-for-5 with one RBI and two walks.
Tyler Chatwood, SP3/31/2014 6:25:00 PM
Description: Rockies pitcher Tyler Chatwood will be placed on the 15-day disabled list due to a hamstring injury, according to Troy Renck of the Denver Post.
Insight: The Rockies are concerned with Chatwood having to cover first base. The right-hander had one of the highest ground-ball rates in the majors last season and allowed just five home runs while posting a 3.15 ERA in 111 1/3 innings.
Tyler Chatwood, SP3/30/2014 7:55:00 PM
Description: Rockies pitcher Tyler Chatwood is questionable for Wednesday's start due to a hamstring injury, according to Troy Renck of the Denver Post.
Insight: Chatwood threw a side session Sunday and will get the Marlins if he can make his start on Wednesday. The right-hander had one of the highest ground-ball rates in the majors last season and allowed just five home runs while posting a 3.15 ERA in 111 1/3 innings.
Jhoulys Chacin, SP3/28/2014 8:17:00 PM
Description: Rockies right-hander Jhoulys Chacin (shoulder) will throw a 50-pitch bullpen session using all his pitches Friday, according to Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post.
Insight: He was shut down in late February with a right shoulder strain and inflammation, but he said Friday that he feels "perfect." Chacin went 14-10 with a 3.47 ERA last season, but it's going to be extremely difficult for him to duplicate his rate of 0.50 HR/9 while pitching half his games at Coors Field. He'll rejoin the Rockies in May.
DJ LeMahieu, 2B3/27/2014 9:24:00 PM
Description: D.J. LeMahieu has won the Rockies' second-base competition.
Insight: Josh Rutledge was optioned to Triple-A on Thursday. LeMahieu has hit .280 with two home runs, 18 steals and a .672 OPS in 404 at-bats last year.
Wilin Rosario, C3/26/2014 1:16:00 PM
Description: Rockies catcher Wilin Rosario will sit out until Friday due to a calf bruise, according to Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post.
Insight: The injury is not considered serious and he should be ready for Opening Day. The 25-year-old backstop had 20+ homers, 70+ RBI and 60+ runs in each of the last two seasons.
Wilin Rosario, C3/25/2014 7:45:00 PM
Description: Rockies catcher Wilin Rosario sat out Tuesday due to swelling in his left calf, according to Thomas Harding of mlb.com.
Insight: The injury is not considered serious, however, and Rosario could be back in the lineup Wednesday or Friday. The 25-year-old backstop had 20+ homers, 70+ RBI and 60+ runs in each of the last two seasons.
Nolan Arenado, 3B3/22/2014 8:18:00 PM
Description: Rockies third baseman Nolan Arenado suffered a left hand contusion when he was hit by a pitch Saturday, according to Troy Renck of the Denver Post. UPDATE: X-rays came back negative and Arenado is day-to-day.
Insight: Arenado hit .267 with 10 home runs, 52 RBI and a .706 OPS in 133 games as a rookie last season, though the 22-year-old has potential for much more in 2014.
Troy Tulowitzki, SS3/13/2014 6:15:00 PM
Description: Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki will miss a few days to let inflammation in his bruised left calf and fibula subside, according to Troy Renck of the Denver Post.
Insight: Tulowitzki was hit by a fastball and has a deep bruise, but X-rays were negative. Tulo's injury history is something to be aware of, but this type of thing can happen to anyone and shouldn't impact where you draft him.
Jhoulys Chacin, SP3/11/2014 8:26:00 PM
Description: Rockies right-hander Jhoulys Chacin (shoulder) almost certainly will begin the season on the diabled list, according to Thomas Harding of mlb.com. However, he has been progressing steadily and will throw from 120 feet Wednesday.
Insight: He was shut down in late February with a right shoulder strain and inflammation. Chacin went 14-10 with a 3.47 ERA last season, but it's going to be extremely difficult for him to duplicate his rate of 0.50 HR/9 while pitching half his games at Coors Field. His career HR/9 is 0.77. The injury gives fantasy owners another reason to proceed with caution.
Michael Cuddyer, 1B3/5/2014 4:44:00 PM
Description: Rockies right fielder Michael Cuddyer took a Jeff Samardzija slider off his left hand and had to leave Wednesday's game, according to Troy Renck of the Denver Post.
Insight: The early indications were that Cuddyer didn't suffer a fracture, though he's headed for more examinations to determine the extent of his injury. Cuddyer hit .331 with 20 homers, 84 RBI and a .919 OPS last season, though he was helped immensely by a .382 BABIP. He won't have that type of good luck again.
Justin Morneau, 1B3/3/2014 10:47:00 PM
Description: Rockies first baseman Justin Morneau hasn't played since the spring training opener due to a stiff neck, according to Thomas Harding of mlb.com.
Insight: Morneau hit 17 homers last season, but none in 25 games after joining the Pirates in a trade from the Twins. He'll go from playing in two of the worst offensive parks in baseball (Target Field and PNC Park) to one of the best (Coors Field) this season.
Jhoulys Chacin, SP2/28/2014 7:58:00 PM
Description: Rockies right-hander Jhoulys Chacin (shoulder) will resume light throwing in a few days, according to Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post.
Insight: He was shut down three days ago for at least a week due to a right shoulder strain and inflammation.
Jhoulys Chacin, SP2/25/2014 4:38:00 PM
Description: Rockies right-hander Jhoulys Chacin will be shut down for at least one week due to a right shoulder strain and inflammation.
Insight: Chacin went 14-10 with a 3.47 ERA last season, but it's going to be extremely difficult for him to duplicate his rate of 0.50 HR/9 while pitching half his games at Coors Field. His career HR/9 is 0.77. The injury gives fantasy owners another reason to proceed with caution.
Jhoulys Chacin, SP2/23/2014 4:46:00 PM
Description: Rockies right-hander Jhoulys Chacin will undergo an MRI on his throwing shoulder to check out some inflammation on Monday.
Insight: Chacin went 14-10 last season, but it's going to be extremely difficult for him to duplicate his rate of 0.50 HR/9 while pitching half his games at Coors Field. His career HR/9 is 0.77. He only gave up 0.46 HR/9 at home last season after serving up 0.83 in his first four seasons.
Carlos Gonzalez, LF2/13/2014 4:03:00 PM
Description: Rockies outfielder Carlos Gonzalez is way ahead of schedule in his recovery from appendectomy and hernia surgery, according to Troy Renck of the Denver Post.
Insight: The team is considering starting CarGo in center field after trading Dexter Fowler, but may keep him in left to keep his legs fresh. The outfielder should be ready for Opening Day and should be a late first-round pick in most fantasy leagues.
LaTroy Hawkins, RP2/11/2014 8:30:00 PM
Description: According to Troy Renck of the Denver Post, Rockies owner Dick Monfort said that LaTroy Hawkins is not necessarily the "everyday" closer and that Rex Brothers may get the call in the ninth if there are lefties due up.
Insight: The 41-year-old had a 2.93 ERA, a 1.15 WHIP and 13 saves over 72 appearances with the New York Mets last season before signing with Colorado. Meanwhile, Brothers threw 67 1/3 innings and posted a 1.74 ERA, a 1.29 WHIP, 19 saves and 76 strikeouts with Colorado. Hawkins will get most of the save opportunities but Brothers will still be a fantasy option in deeper leagues and the first man in line if Hawkins falters.
Roy Oswalt, SP2/11/2014 1:03:00 PM
Description: Righthander Roy Oswalt has decided to retire after 13 major league seasons. SOURCE: Buster Olney, ESPN
Insight: Oswalt pitched with the Rockies in 2013 but his last fantasy-worthy work came in 2010 while he was with Houston and Philadelphia. He'll finish his career with a 163-102 record in 365 big league appearances (341 starts).
Carlos Gonzalez, LF1/23/2014 4:43:00 PM
Description: Colorado left fielder Carlos Gonzalez had surgery for an emergency appendectomy two weeks ago, but has already been cleared for physical activity, according to the Rockies.
Insight: Gonzalez should still be ready for spring training next month. Assuming, he's back to normal by the start of 2014, Gonzalez (.302, 26 HR, 70 RBI, 21 SB in 110 games) should be a top-10 fantasy player.
Tyler Colvin, RF1/22/2014 8:52:00 PM
Description: The Orioles and outfielder Tyler Colvin came to an agreement on a new contract last week but now the team is claiming there's an issue with Colvin's physical. SOURCE: Jerry Crasnick, ESPN
Insight: It's the second time this offseason that Baltimore has agreed to a deal and then backed out because of a failed physical. We're still not sure what the issue may have been. The Orioles could revisit the deal later this offseason or they could cut the cord completely like they did with Grant Balfour a few weeks ago. For what it's worth, Colvin hit .160 last year with three homers in 27 games.
Carlos Gonzalez, LF1/11/2014 2:15:00 PM
Description: Colorado left fielder Carlos Gonzalez had surgery for an emergency appendectomy on Friday night. SOURCE: Rafael Rojas, MLB.com
Insight: Gonzalez should still be ready for spring training next month. Assuming, he's back to normal by the start of 2014, Gonzalez (.302, 26 HR, 70 RBI, 21 SB) should be a top-10 fantasy player.
Drew Stubbs, CF12/18/2013 4:27:00 PM
Description: The Indians have traded outfielder Drew Stubbs to Colorado for lefthander Josh Outman. SOURCE: Ken Rosenthal, Fox Sports
Insight: It's never a bad thing when a hitter plays half of his games at Coors Field. With that said, Stubbs has never hit above .270 and his 17 stolen bases last season were his fewest since 2009. We wouldn't waste a draft pick on him.
Boone Logan, RP12/13/2013 8:58:00 PM
Description: Former Yankees reliever Boone Logan inked a three-year deal with Colorado on Friday. SOURCE: Jon Heyman, CBS Sports
Insight: Logan finished with a 3.23 ERA last season, the fourth year in a row he's posted an ERA of lower than four. Pitching at hitter-friendly Coors Park isn't always easy but as a lefthanded specialist Logan should do fine.
Brett Anderson, SP12/10/2013 9:16:00 PM
Description: The A's dealt lefthander Brett Anderson to Colorado on Tuesday. SOURCE: Ken Rosenthal, Fox Sports
Insight: Anderson's fate was sealed as soon as Oakland signed Scott Kazmir to a two-year deal. He's in the last year of his contract and could very well be traded again before the July 31st deadline.
Justin Morneau, 1B12/4/2013 9:55:00 AM
Description: Justin Morneau's new deal with the Rockies will pay him $13 million over two years. SOURCE: Jon Heyman, CBS Sports
Insight: Morneau's power disappeared over the final month of the season but he should find it again in Colorado. Coors Field had the highest park factor in the majors last season. Twenty-five homers with an average in the .270 range seems like a reasonable expectation for fantasy owners.
LaTroy Hawkins, RP11/21/2013 9:39:00 PM
Description: The Rockies signed LaTroy Hawkins to a one-year, $2.25 million contract Thursday.
Insight: The 40-year-old Hawkins reportedly will serve as the Rockies closer over Rex Brothers, according to the Denver Post. Hawkins, who has been around since the mid-1990s, threw 70 2/3 innings and had a 2.93 ERA, a 1.15 WHIP and 13 saves this past season with the Mets. He played with Colorado in 2007 and had a 3.42 ERA in 55 1/3 innings.
Wilin Rosario, C11/4/2013 1:54:00 PM
Description: Rockies catcher Wilin Rosario could end up playing a lot at first base if rumors that the team is interested in Phillies free agent catcher Carlos Ruiz are true.
Insight: Rosario is a huge offensive weapon (.315, 21 HR, 79 RBI, .801 OPS), but Ruiz is a superb defensive catcher. With Todd Helton retired, Rosario figures to be eligible at both positions in 2014 even if the Rockies don't sign Ruiz.
Rafael Betancourt, RP10/29/2013 7:47:00 PM
Description: The Rockies won't pick up reliever Rafael Betancourt's $4.25 million option for next season. SOURCE: Rockies on Twitter
Insight: It wouldn't have made much sense as Betancourt is slated to miss the entire 2014 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery in August. At age 38 and with his health in question, it could be tough for Betancourt to find another job in the big leagues.
Carlos Gonzalez, LF10/7/2013 8:56:00 PM
Description: Colorado left fielder Carlos Gonzalez is opting not to have surgery on his sprained middle finger. SOURCE: Denver Post
Insight: Gonzalez struggled with the injury for most of the second half. He made the decision to not have surgery after his finger showed improvement during an instructional league game last week. If he's back to normal by the start of 2014, Gonzalez (.302, 26 HR, 70 RBI, 21 SB) should be a top-ten fantasy player.
Michael Cuddyer, RF10/6/2013 5:07:00 PM
Description: Apparently Colorado right fielder Michael Cuddyer will move to first base next season to take over for retiring Todd Helton.
Insight: Rockies owner Dick Monfort broke the news in a letter to ticket holders. Cuddyer had an excellent season with the bat, hitting .331 with 20 HR and 84 RBI in 489 at-bats and will be a fantasy-worthy first baseman.
Juan Nicasio, SP9/29/2013 10:02:00 AM
Description: Colorado starter Juan Nicasio threw all zeros Saturday against Los Angeles.
Insight: Nicasio surrendered just three hits over 5 1/3 shutout innings. Prior to Saturday, Nicasio had been winless in his last three decisions. He'll close out the 2013 campaign with nine wins, nine losses and a 5.14 ERA in 157 2/3 IP.
Wilin Rosario, C9/27/2013 8:37:00 PM
Description: Rockies catcher Wilin Rosario (calf) is questionable for the final two games of the season, according to Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post.
Insight: Rosario, who hasn't played since Sept. 17, tried to run Friday but he's still dealing with lingering soreness in his calf. The catcher has hit .292 with 21 homers, 79 RBI and an .801 OPS this season.
Tyler Chatwood, SP9/27/2013 8:25:00 PM
Description: Rockies pitcher Tyler Chatwood is dealing with minor elbow stiffness and won't make his final start of the season Sunday, according to Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post.
Insight: Chatwood missed all of August with an elbow issue. He has posted a 1.43 WHIP in 111 1/3 innings this season, but his ability to limit the longball has helped him post a career-best 3.15 ERA.
Charlie Blackmon, CFHot9/26/2013 12:27:00 PM
Description: Rockies outfielder Charlie Blackmon has picked up 29 hits in his last 69 at-bats (.420 average).

Description: The Rockies have placed catcher Yorvit Torrealba on the 7-day DL.

Description: Colorado catcher Wilin Rosario is back in the lineup Monday after getting Saturday off while he deals with a sore hamstring.

Yorvit Torrealba, C8/19/2013 11:45:00 AM
Description: Rockies backup catcher Yorvit Torrealba is doubtful for Monday's game against Philadelphia with a head injury.

Description: Colorado catcher Wilin Rosario won't start Sunday against the Orioles.
Insight: Rosario is just getting a breather. He's been red-hot lately with 15 hits in his last 39 at bats (.385 AVG during his nine-game hitting streak).

Rafael Betancourt, RP8/16/2013 7:31:00 PM
Description: According to Troy Renck of the Denver Post, Rockies manager Walt Weiss will talk to Rafael Betancourt before his activation Saturday to see where he is mentally.
Insight: If the 38-year-old has no trepidation about returning to the closer role, he'll return to the ninth inning immediately. Weiss expects Betancourt to say he's ready. Rex Brothers will move back to middle relief and will lose most of his fantasy value. However, Betancourt is a candidate to be traded prior to Aug. 31, in which case Brothers would regain the job.
Wilin Rosario, C8/16/2013 10:45:00 AM
Description: After missing Wednesday's game due to a hamstring strain, Rockies catcher Wilin Rosario returned to the lineup Friday and went 2-for-4 with a homer and two RBI.
Insight: Rosario served as the DH at Baltimore. He's hitting .283 with 17 homers and 63 RBI, making him one of fantasy's top catching options.
Michael Cuddyer, RF8/14/2013 1:20:00 PM
Description: Rockies right fielder Michael Cuddyer (flu) was available to play Tuesday, but he wasn't in the starting lineup. He is, however, in Wednesday's lineup.
Insight: Cuddyer, who made a pinch-hitting appearance on Tuesday, couldn't eat for 36 hours and lost six pounds from his illness. He's produced very good numbers this season: .327 AVG, 17 HR, 66 RBI and a .935 OPS.

DJ LeMahieu, 2B8/14/2013 9:45:00 AM
Description: Colorado infielder D.J. LeMahieu has faced Padres right-hander Andrew Cashner eight times and come away with five hits and a walk for a .750 OBP.
Insight: LeMahieu hasn't done much with the bat to warrant attention from fantasy owners (.278, 2 HR, 18 RBI, .686 OPS), but Wednesday might be worth a flier despite the small sample size.
Rafael Betancourt, RP8/13/2013 7:27:00 PM
Description: Rockies reliever Rafael Betancourt plans to rejoin the Rockies Friday in Baltimore, according to the Denver Post. He threw a 30-pitch simulated game Monday and said he feels much better. The right-hander had 15 saves in 16 chances and a 3.16 ERA in 25 2/3 innings prior to his appendectomy.
Insight: The 38-year-old will throw for Triple-A Colorado Springs Thursday, rejoin the team Friday and be activated Saturday. It is unclear if Betancourt will reclaim the closer role from Rex Brothers. Betancourt had 15 saves in 16 chances and a 3.16 ERA in 25 2/3 innings prior to his appendectomy.
Michael Cuddyer, RF8/13/2013 5:56:00 PM
Description: Rockies right fielder Michael Cuddyer (flu) is available to play Tuesday, but he isn't in the starting lineup.

Carlos Gonzalez, LF8/13/2013 5:19:00 PM
Description: According to the Denver Post, Rockies outfielder Carlos Gonzalez (finger) is unlikely to return from the disabled list when first eligible next Tuesday.
Insight: CarGo isn't expected to start swinging a bat until late next week or even the week after. The team wants his nagging right middle finger sprain to heal and is taking it slowly.
Michael Cuddyer, RF8/12/2013 7:01:00 PM
Description: Rockies right fielder Michael Cuddyer will miss his second straight game because of an illness. SOURCE: MLB.com
Insight: That leaves Charlie Blackmon to play right field for Colorado. The Rockies are hoping to have Cuddyer (.328, 17 HR, 66 RBI) back Tuesday against San Diego.
Wilin Rosario, C8/12/2013 10:45:00 AM
Description: Rockies catcher Wilin Rosario is a career .467 hitter (7-for-15) versus Padres right-hander Edinson Volquez with a pair of homers and seven RBI.
Insight: Rosario continues to show off his power - batting .280 with 16 HR, 56 RBI and a .782 OPS. This isn't an improvement over last season's breakout campaign, but he's still a solid fantasy option. Start him in this favorable matchup.
Rafael Betancourt, RP8/11/2013 1:55:00 PM
Description: Rockies reliever Rafael Betancourt (appendicitis) will throw a simulated game this week, according to the Denver Post. He threw 40-pitch bullpen sessions Monday and Wednesday and a lighter session Friday.
Insight: There's still no timetable for his return. The right-hander had 15 saves in 16 chances and a 3.16 ERA in 25 2/3 innings prior to his appendectomy. Rex Brothers has saved nine games in Betancourt's place.
Tyler Chatwood, SP8/8/2013 12:04:00 PM
Description: The Rockies have gone ahead and placed righthander Tyler Chatwood on the disabled list.
Insight: He's out with inflammation in his right elbow. As of now, there is no timetable for his return.
Jeff Francis, SP8/7/2013 7:24:00 PM
Description: Lefthander Jeff Francis will be taking Carlos Gonzalez's spot on the active roster.
Insight: The Rockies have no plans to use him in the starting rotation so it looks like Francis will have to settle for a mop-up/long relief role. Obviously, he won't be of any use to fantasy owners in this capacity.
Carlos Gonzalez, LF8/7/2013 4:52:00 PM
Description: Rockies have placed left fielder Carlos Gonzalez on the 15-day disabled list due to his ongoing finger issue.
Insight: Fantasy owners need Cargo and his productive bat (.302, 26 HR, 70 RBI, 72 runs, 21 SB) back ASAP.
Tyler Chatwood, SP8/6/2013 4:40:00 PM
Description: Rockies pitcher Tyler Chatwood will not make his scheduled start Tuesday due to left hamstring tightness, according to Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post.

Description: Although the Rockies do not plan on placing left fielder Carlos Gonzalez on the disabled list, he is not in Tuesday's starting lineup.
Insight: Gonzalez is still listed as day-to-day with a sprained middle finger. fantasy owners need Cargo and his productive bat (.302, 26 HR, 70 RBI, 72 runs, 21 SB) back ASAP.
Carlos Gonzalez, LF8/5/2013 9:04:00 PM
Description: Contrary to a report we heard yesterday, the Rockies do not plan on placing left fielder Carlos Gonzalez on the disabled list. SOURCE: Thomas Harding, MLB.com
Insight: Gonzalez is day-to-day with a sprained middle finger. Colorado's next game will be Tuesday against the Mets.
Carlos Gonzalez, LF8/5/2013 12:10:00 PM
Description: Colorado left fielder Carlos Gonzalez re-aggravated his finger injury Sunday against Pittsburgh and is expected to be placed on the 15-day disabled list.
Insight: When that happens, Josh Rutledge is expected to take his place on the active roster. Certainly Rutledge won't be able to replace Gonzalez's bat (.302, 26 HR, 70 RBI, 72 runs, 21 SB, .958 OPS).
Carlos Gonzalez, LF8/4/2013 8:41:00 PM
Description: Colorado left fielder Carlos Gonzalez aggravated his finger injury Sunday against Pittsburgh. SOURCE: Troy Renck, Denver Post
Insight: This latest setback will almost certainly send Gonzalez to the disabled list. When that happens, Josh Rutledge is expected to take his place on the active roster.
Carlos Gonzalez, LF8/4/2013 9:24:00 AM
Description: Rockies left fielder Carlos Gonzalez missed his third consecutive game on Saturday, due to an injured finger, but there is hope he'll return to the lineup on Sunday, according to Rockies beat writer Troy Renck.
Insight: Gonzalez re-injured his finger Wednesday. X-rays came back negative and he should avoid the disabled list. Fantasy owners need his big bat back in the lineup ASAP. He's batting .302 with 26 HR, 70 RBI, 72 runs and 21 stolen bases.
Michael Cuddyer, RF8/3/2013 7:05:00 PM
Description: Colorado right fielder Michael Cuddyer missed Thursday and Friday's game due to a faimily matter, but is in Saturday's starting lineup.
Insight: Cuddyer is having an excellent season, batting .329 with 17 HR and 62 RBI in 87 games. Be sure to get him back in your fantasy lineup.
Roy Oswalt, SP8/3/2013 5:00:00 PM
Description: Rockies starter Roy Oswalt (hamstring) hit a roadblock in his return to the mound, stopping after just two batters in a simulated game on Saturday, according to Colorado beat writer Troy Renck.
Insight: Oswalt lost each of his four starts this season (7.64 ERA in 17 2/3 innings) and at this point fantasy owners should not be expecting him back anytime soon.
Carlos Gonzalez, LF8/3/2013 3:04:00 PM
Description: Rockies left fielder Carlos Gonzalez will miss his third consecutive game on Saturday, due to an injured finger, but there is hope he'll return to the lineup on Sunday, according to Rockies beat writer Troy Renck.
Insight: Gonzalez re-injured his finger Wednesday. X-rays came back negative and he should avoid the disabled list. Fantasy owners need his big bat back in the lineup ASAP. He's batting .302 with 26 HR, 70 RBI, 72 runs and 21 stolen bases - he's the total package.

Insight: Cuddyer is tending to a family issue. His status for Friday is still uncertain.
Carlos Gonzalez, LF8/2/2013 9:20:00 AM
Description: Rockies left fielder Carlos Gonzalez missed Thursday's game and is doubtful for Friday's game against Pittsburgh.

Insight: Cuddyer is tending to a family issue. His status for Friday is still uncertain.
Troy Tulowitzki, SS8/1/2013 8:22:00 PM
Description: Colorado shortstop Troy Tulowitzki was ejected Thursday at Atlanta for arguing a called third strike.
Insight: Colorado will have to play the final seven innings without its usual 3-4-5 hitters, as Carlos Gonzalez (hand) and Michael Cuddyer (personal) were already out of the starting lineup.
Michael Cuddyer, RF8/1/2013 5:35:00 PM
Description: Colorado right fielder Michael Cuddyer is not expected to be in the lineup Thursday, according to Troy Renck of the Denver Post.
Insight: Cuddyer is tending to a family issue. His status for Friday is uncertain.
Carlos Gonzalez, LF8/1/2013 4:11:00 PM
Description: Rockies left fielder Carlos Gonzalez won't be in the lineup Thursday versus the Braves.
Insight: Gonzalez re-injured his finger last night and was replaced in the fourth inning. Troy Renck from the Denver Post reported earlier today that Gonzalez's X-rays came back negative and that he isn't expected to be placed on the disabled list.
Carlos Gonzalez, LF7/31/2013 9:35:00 PM
Description: Colorado left fielder Carlos Gonzalez left Wednesday's game in the fourth inning after aggravating a finger injury. SOURCE: Troy Renck, Denver Post
Insight: Gonzalez has been dealing with a sprained middle finger for the last three weeks. He went 0-for-1 with a strikeout before exiting.
Nolan Arenado, 3B7/30/2013 10:47:00 PM
Description: Rockies third baseman Nolan Arenado has homered in two straight games.
Insight: He has picked up multiple hits in four of the last six games. However, the highly touted rookie's OPS is still under .700 (.697).
Carlos Gonzalez, LF7/30/2013 10:46:00 PM
Description: After going 5-for-5 with two RBI in his return to the lineup Monday, Rockies outfielder Carlos Gonzalez went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts Tuesday.
Insight: Gonzalez did drive in a run with a sac fly in the first inning, giving him 70 RBI on the season. He appears to be OK after aggravating a sprained middle finger on July 25.
Carlos Gonzalez, LF7/29/2013 4:30:00 PM
Description: Colorado left fielder Carlos Gonzalez (finger) is back in the lineup Monday.
Insight: Gonzalez aggravated his sprained right middle finger on July 25 and missed three games. He has gone 1-for-4 with a homer and two walks against Braves starter Brandon Beachy.
Jhoulys Chacin, SP7/28/2013 10:15:00 PM
Description: Rockies starter Jhoulys Chacin made his scheduled start Sunday despite a sore groin and allowed three runs on eight hits in seven innings.
Insight: Chacin was in line for the win, but Matt Belisle gave up the lead in the eighth. The homer Chacin gave up Sunday was just his fourth of the season. It seems impossible that he'll sustain a 3.4 percent HR/FB all season, especially when he pitches at Coors Field.
Troy Tulowitzki, SS7/28/2013 10:13:00 PM
Description: Colorado shortstop Troy Tulowitzki has homered in two straight games.
Insight: Fantasy's best shortstop is hitting .335 with 19 home runs and 59 RBI in 269 at-bats.
Michael Cuddyer, RF7/28/2013 10:10:00 PM
Description: Colorado right fielder Michael Cuddyer cracked his 17th homer of the season Sunday against Milwaukee.
Insight: Cuddyer has had a great year, hitting .330 with 60 RBI and a .964 OPS. He has a .365 BABIP so there's a chance he'll regress, but it hasn't happened yet.
Dexter Fowler, CFCold7/28/2013 10:05:00 PM
Description: Colorado center fielder Dexter Fowler snapped out of a 1-for-25 slump with two hits and a solo home run Sunday.
Insight: It's not a good sign that Fowler's seven-game slump took place entirely at Coors Field, where he has done most of his damage this season. Colorado begins a 10-game road trip Monday, and Fowler is a .232 hitter on the road this year.
Carlos Gonzalez, LF7/28/2013 2:01:00 PM
Description: Colorado left fielder Carlos Gonzalez will miss his third game in a row Sunday against the Brewers.
Insight: He's out with a sprained middle finger. The Rockies are still deciding whether or not to place CarGo on the disabled list.
Tyler Chatwood, SP7/27/2013 9:54:00 AM
Description: Rockies starter Tyler Chatwood struck out 11 batters and tossed seven innings of two-run ball Friday to beat the Brewers.
Insight: He also went 2-for-2 with two RBI at the plate, so it was a fantastic night all around for him. The groundball specialist only has a 6.37 K/9 even after Friday's performance but he is 7-3 with a 2.48 ERA this season. He has allowed just three homers in 83 1/3 innings.
Carlos Gonzalez, LF7/26/2013 8:14:00 PM
Description: Colorado left fielder Carlos Gonzalez won't be available for Friday's game against Milwaukee.
Insight: He left Thursday's game with a finger injury and has since been diagnosed with a sprained middle finger. Charlie Blackmon will have to pick up the slack while he's out.
Jhoulys Chacin, SP7/26/2013 12:34:00 PM
Description: Rockies starter Jhoulys Chacin's next start is not in jeopardy for now despite a sore left groin that has him limping around the clubhouse.
Insight: Chacin was hit by a line drive during Tuesday's start. The right-hander is 9-5 with a 3.53 ERA and has allowed just three homers in 120 innings (2.8% HR/FB). That's amazing and probably unsustainable considering he pitches at Coors Field. His next scheduled start is Sunday against the Brewers.
Juan Nicasio, SP7/25/2013 9:52:00 PM
Description: Rockies right-hander Juan Nicasio has given up a total of one earned run on eight hits in 19 innings since returning from the minors.
Insight: Nicasio was recalled after Roy Oswalt went on the DL with a strained left hamstring. The right-hander gave up two hits and struck out nine over seven scoreless innings Thursday against the Marlins. He's a risky pickup, so he should be avoided outside of NL-only leagues.
Carlos Gonzalez, LF7/25/2013 5:11:00 PM
Description: Rockies left fielder Carlos Gonzalez aggravated his sprained right middle finger during his first at-bat Thursday and is day-to-day, according to Troy Renck of the Denver Post.
Insight: Gonzalez was pulled for a pinch-hitter in the fourth inning Thursday against the Marlins. He's day-to-day.
Todd Helton, 1B7/25/2013 1:44:00 PM
Description: Rockies first baseman Todd Helton is not in Thursday's starting lineup.
Insight: Helton was once a fantasy stud, but those days are long gone (.259, 7 HR, 32 RBI). Michael Cuddyer will take over first base and it's his eighth start there. If your league requires 10 starts to be eligible, Cuddyer is closing in on that number.
Troy Tulowitzki, SS7/25/2013 1:40:00 PM
Description: Colorado shortstop Troy Tulowitzki is not is the starting lineup for Thursday afternoon's game against Miami.
Insight: No injury that we know of, just a rest day after playing six straight days. Tulowitzki is 7-for-28 (.250) since the All-Star break. Jonathan Herrera gets the start, but has little fantasy value.
Josh Rutledge, 2B7/22/2013 7:58:00 PM
Description: Colorado infielder Josh Rutledge has been demoted to Triple-A Colorado Springs.
Insight: It's the second time he's been sent down this season. We'll probably see Rutledge again in September when the rosters expand.
Troy Tulowitzki, SS7/21/2013 1:42:00 PM
Description: Colorado shortstop Troy Tulowitzki is 4-for-5 in his career against Edwin Jackson.
Insight: Sure it's a small sample size but with ten losses and an ERA over five, there's no reason for us to have any confidence in Jackson heading into the rubber match on Sunday. Tulo and the Rockies should have a field day with this matchup.
Carlos Gonzalez, LF7/21/2013 1:38:00 PM
Description: Rockies left fielder Carlos Gonzalez has only logged seven at bats against Cubs righthander Edwin Jackson but five of those at bats have resulted in base hits.
Insight: Though he's yet to homer off of Jackson, Gonzalez does have three extra base hits as well as five RBI. With that kind of history, it would be crazy for Jackson to throw anything even close to the strike zone when Gonzalez comes to the plate on Sunday.
Rafael Betancourt, RP7/20/2013 4:21:00 PM
Description: Appendicitis will send Rockies closer Rafael Betancourt to the disabled list.
Insight: Another tough break for Betancourt. It's his second trip to the DL in as many months. Rex Brothers will fill in as the interim closer.
Michael Cuddyer, RF7/15/2013 12:48:00 PM
Description: Colorado right fielder Michael Cuddyer is on the Texas Rangers' wish list along with Giancarlo Stanton although the latter appears to be staying put in Miami.
Insight: Cuddyer is having an excellent season (.330, 16 HR, 55 RBI, 38 runs in 74 games) and has been a huge fantasy bargain. He'd be just as valuable in the Texas lineup as he is in Colorado.
Jhoulys Chacin, SPHot7/14/2013 10:24:00 PM
Description: Jhoulys Chacin is on fire heading into the All-Star break. The Rockies ace is 6-1 with a 1.94 ERA in his last seven starts.
Insight: Chacin twirled another gem Sunday against the Dodgers, allowing just six hits and one run in six innings. He's tied with Jorge De La Rosa for the team-lead in victories (nine each).
Troy Tulowitzki, SS7/14/2013 12:10:00 PM
Description: Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki is 6-for-12 (.500) with one home run in his career against Dodgers starter Ricky Nolasco.
Insight: Los Angeles just acquired Nolasco from the Marlins, which is good news for Tulowitzki because Nolasco is now in the same division. Nolasco will start Sunday against the Rockies.
Tyler Chatwood, SP7/13/2013 10:33:00 PM
Description: Rockies starter Tyler Chatwood gave up just four hits and one run in eight innings Saturday at Los Angeles, but he opposed Zack Greinke, who threw a shutout.
Insight: Chatwood gave up 11 hits and five earned runs against the Dodgers back on July 3 in his worst start of the year, but he has followed it up with two quality starts. The right-handed groundball specialist has gone 5-3 with a 2.56 ERA and a 1.29 WHIP this season and has given up just two home runs in 70 1/3 innings.
Troy Tulowitzki, SS7/13/2013 6:16:00 PM
Description: Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki is getting Saturday off.
Insight: Tulowitzki went 0-for-6 in his first two games since returning from the disabled list. The shortstop should be back in the lineup Sunday.
Troy Tulowitzki, SSCold7/13/2013 10:45:00 AM
Description: Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki is just 3-for-16 (.188) against Dodgers right-hander Zack Greinke.
Insight: Tulowitzki, who has just returned from the disabled list, is hitless in his first two games and this unfavorable matchup isn't likely to help.
Carlos Gonzalez, LFHot7/13/2013 10:42:00 AM
Description: Colorado left fielder Carlos Gonzalez is a career .429 hitter with a pair of home runs against Dodgers right-hander Zack Greinke.
Insight: He suffered a sprained middle finger last Sunday, but managed to return to the lineup just three days later. Fantasy owners love his bat (.304, 25 HR, 64 RBI, 67 runs, 15 SB) and are probably happy he's skipping the Home Run contest so he'll be healthier for the second half of the season.
Dexter Fowler, CF7/12/2013 10:30:00 AM
Description: Colorado center fielder Dexter Fowler is one of the rare hitters with success against Dodgers left-hander Clayton Kershaw.
Insight: Fowler, who is a career .441 hitter (15-for-34) with a 1.059 OPS versus the Dodgers ace, just returned from a stint on the disabled list, going hitless in his first game back (and hitless in two rehab games at Colorado Springs) and may not be ready to take advantage of this favorable matchup.
Troy Tulowitzki, SS7/11/2013 10:50:00 PM
Description: The Rockies activated Troy Tulowitzki from the disabled list and the shortstop started and hit cleanup Thursday against the Dodgers.
Insight: Tulowitzki was given a timetable for 4-6 weeks when he suffered a fractured rib on June 13, and he ended up missing just under one month. When healthy, Tulo is the best fantasy player at his position.
Dexter Fowler, CF7/11/2013 1:30:00 PM
Description: Colorado has activated center fielder Dexter Fowler from the disabled list.
Insight: The Rockies could really use Fowler's bat back in the lineup after losing seven out of their last ten. Fowler, who has been out with wrist soreness, hasn't appeared in a game since June 25th.
Troy Tulowitzki, SS7/11/2013 11:57:00 AM
Description: If the Rockies choose to activate Troy Tulowitzki from the disabled list on Thursday, he could give fantasy owners a huge offensive lift. The All-Star shortstop is a .455 lifetime hitter against Dodgers starter Chris Capuano.
Insight: Tulowitzki (.347, 16 HR, 51 RBI) has missed almost a month with a broken rib. He's been unstoppable this season and we doubt the mediocre Capuano (2-6, 5.19 ERA) would be able to slow him down.
Juan Nicasio, SP7/10/2013 2:47:00 PM
Description: Rockies right-hander Juan Nicasio has been sratched from his scheduled Wednesday minor league start and is the likely choice to replace Roy Oswalt's spot in the rotation.
Insight: Nothing to see here. Nicasio has yet to prove he's got any fantasy value, going 4-4 in 2011 with a 4.14 ERA and 2-3 in 2012 with a 5.28 ERA. In 16 starts this season he's continued his mediocrity, going 4-4 with a 5.31 ERA and 1.46 WHIP.
Dexter Fowler, CF7/10/2013 11:03:00 AM
Description: Rockies center fielder Dexter Fowler (wrist) hasn't done much in his rehab assignment (0-for-6 with two strikeouts and three walks, but could be activated in time for Thursday's game.
Insight: Fowler probably needs more at-bats before he's ready, but if the Rockies put him in the lineup then fantasy owners should follow suit. He's been a productive outfielder, batting .291 with 10 homers, 26 RBI, 49 runs and 12 steals this season.
Troy Tulowitzki, SS7/10/2013 9:52:00 AM
Description: Colorado shortstop Troy Tulowitzki (broken rib) is scheduled to return to the team on Thursday for evaluation after his rehab assignment and could be given the okay to play Thursday night.
Insight: Tulowitzki went 3-for-3 in last night's rehab game at Colorado Springs. He has been on the DL since June 14 with a fractured rib on his right side. He was given a 4-6 week timetable, but could end up coming back in under a month.
Carlos Gonzalez, LF7/10/2013 9:50:00 AM
Description: Colorado left fielder Carlos Gonzalez will take batting practice on Wednesday to determine if he can play, pinch hit or must sit out another game.
Insight: He suffered a sprained middle finger on Sunday. Fantasy owners need his bat (.304, 24 HR, 63 RBI, 66 runs, 15 SB) back in the lineup ASAP.
Carlos Gonzalez, LF7/9/2013 10:12:00 AM
Description: Colorado left fielder Carlos Gonzalez wasn't available for Monday's series opener against the Padres and is doubtful for Tuesday's game.
Insight: He suffered a sprained middle finger on Sunday. CarGo was recently selected to participate in next week's Home Run Derby at Citi Field, but that might be in doubt too. Fantasy owners need his bat (.304, 24 HR, 63 RBI, 66 runs, 15 SB) back in the lineup ASAP.
Roy Oswalt, SP7/8/2013 7:43:00 PM
Description: Rockies starter Roy Oswalt has officially been placed on the 15-day DL.
Insight: He's out with a strained left hamstring. Outfielder Charlie Blackmon was called up from Triple-A in the corresponding roster move. Oswalt has lost each of his four starts this season (7.64 ERA in 17 2/3 innings).
Carlos Gonzalez, LF7/8/2013 7:19:00 PM
Description: Colorado left fielder Carlos Gonzalez won't be available for Monday's series opener against the Padres.
Insight: He suffered a sprained middle finger on Sunday. CarGo was recently selected to participate in next week's Home Run Derby at Citi Field. Gonzalez finished fifth in the Derby last year when it was held in Kansas City.
Roy Oswalt, SP7/8/2013 1:54:00 PM
Description: Rockies pitcher Roy Oswalt is expected to head to the disabled list after being forced out of his fourth start with a hamstring injury.
Insight: When you are 35-years-old these things happen. He's expected to miss at least three weeks. Based on how he pitched, yielding 14 earned runs in his first three starts, it's safe to say he has little to no fantasy value anymore.
Carlos Gonzalez, LF7/8/2013 10:28:00 AM
Description: Rockies left fielder Carlos Gonzalez left Sunday's game with a sprained right middle finger, but a matchup with Edinson Volquez might magically heal the injury.
Insight: X-rays came back negative and he's listed as doubtful, but when a hitter is 10-for-19 (.526) versus a pitcher, he's likely to do all he can to get in the lineup. We await final word.
Carlos Gonzalez, LF7/7/2013 10:10:00 PM
Description: Rockies left fielder Carlos Gonzalez left Sunday's game with a sprained right middle finger, according to Troy Renck of the Denver Post.
Insight: Gonzalez hurt his finger on a swing Sunday. Fortunately, X-rays came back negative and he's day-to-day.
Troy Tulowitzki, SS7/7/2013 4:27:00 PM
Description: Colorado shortstop Troy Tulowitzki (broken rib) will start his minor league rehab assignment with Triple-A Colorado Springs this week, according to the Denver Post.
Insight: Tulowitzki has been on the DL since June 14 with a fractured rib on his right side. He was given a 4-6 week timetable but could return as soon as Thursday. Nothing is guaranteed, however, as the team wants Tulowitzki to play more than two rehab games to test his injury.
Dexter Fowler, CF7/7/2013 4:23:00 PM
Description: Rockies center fielder Dexter Fowler (wrist) will start his minor league rehab assignment with Triple-A Colorado Springs Monday, according to the Denver Post.
Insight: Fowler could be back in the lineup after just two rehab games. The team will reevaluate him after he plays Monday and Tuesday. Fowler last played on June 25 due to right wrist soreness.
Josh Rutledge, 2BCold7/7/2013 1:06:00 PM
Description: Rockies infielder Josh Rutledge is hitless in 11 at bats against Diamondbacks lefty Patrick Corbin.
Insight: Add that to the 3-for-17 slump he's in and you've got one pretty unappealing fantasy second baseman. Hopefully Rutledge isn't in your team's plans for Sunday.
Carlos Gonzalez, LF7/5/2013 7:03:00 PM
Description: Rockies left fielder Carlos Gonzalez is not in the starting lineup for Friday's game against Arizona with an strained upper back.
Insight: Gonzalez hurt his back on a swing in the fifth inning. Though he said he would play Friday, the team obviously elected to play it safe and give him a day off.
Jorge De La Rosa, SP7/5/2013 9:55:00 AM
Description: Rockies starter Jorge De La Rosa is probable for Friday's scheduled start against Arizona.
Insight: De La Rosa left last Saturday's start after 86 pitches due to ongoing issues with his left thumb. He allowed one run on six hits, walked one and struck out four over six innings and now has a 3.09 ERA. The left-hander nearly missed a start earlier this month due to a cut on his left middle finger and then suffered the thumb injury on June 17.
Carlos Gonzalez, LF7/5/2013 9:35:00 AM
Description: Rockies left fielder Carlos Gonzalez is questionable for Friday's game against Arizona with an strained upper back.
Insight: Gonzalez hurt his back on a swing in the fifth inning. Thoough he says he'll play Friday, the team could elect to play it safe and give him a day or two off.
Troy Tulowitzki, SS7/4/2013 5:47:00 PM
Description: Colorado shortstop Troy Tulowitzki (broken rib) took batting practice Thursday, according to Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post.
Insight: Tulowitzki has been on the DL since June 14 with a fractured rib on his right side. The shortstop was given a 4-6 week timetable, but it appears he'll be back sooner rather than later.
Tyler Chatwood, SP7/4/2013 10:12:00 AM
Description: Rockies starter Tyler Chatwood allowed 11 hits and five earned runs in five innings Wednesday against the Dodgers.
Insight: Chatwood wasn't going to carry a 2.13 ERA all season. He hadn't served up a homer in 50 2/3 innings this season prior to Wednesday, but the Dodgers hit two off the righty.
Michael Cuddyer, RFHot7/3/2013 10:42:00 AM
Description: Colorado right fielder Michael Cuddyer's 27-game hitting streak came to an end on Tuesday night against Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw.
Insight: Cuddyer is having an excellent season (.339, 14 HR, 48 RBI, 38 runs in 63 games) and has been a huge fantasy bargain. We expect him to continue to pound the ball.
Dexter Fowler, CF7/2/2013 6:46:00 PM
Description: Dexter Fowler was originally in Tuesday's lineup but the Rockies scratched him at the last minute because of a bruised hand.
Insight: Troy Renck from the Denver Post reports that the team has already placed Fowler on the disabled list. He'll finish the first half of the season with 10 HR, 26 RBI and a .291 batting average. Tyler Colvin is getting the start in center field Tuesday against the Dodgers.
Michael Cuddyer, RFHot6/30/2013 9:45:00 PM
Description: Colorado right fielder Michael Cuddyer extended his hitting streak to 27 games with a base hit Sunday against the Giants.
Insight: He'll finish the month with a .347 average, which, believe it or not, is only three points higher than his season average. It's still a ways off but if Cuddyer can keep this streak going through the All-Star break, he'll be at 40 games, which would be the sixth-longest streak in MLB history and the longest we've seen in over 30 years. Of course, Joe DiMaggio holds the all-time mark with his 56-game streak set in 1941.
Drew Pomeranz, SP6/30/2013 11:05:00 AM
Description: Colorado left-hander Drew Pomeranz will start Sunday against the Giants. He's taking Juan Nicasio's spot in the rotation after Nicasio was optioned to Triple-A Friday.
Insight: Pomeranz has gone 8-1 with a 4.20 ERA and 96 strikeouts in 85 2/3 innings with Triple-A Colorado Springs. The lefty was the No. 5 overall pick in the 2010 MLB Draft and has plenty of potential, even though he went 2-9 with a 4.93 ERA and a 1.48 WHIP in 96 2/3 innings with the Rockies last year. He's worth an add in NL-only leagues for now.
Dexter Fowler, CF6/30/2013 11:02:00 AM
Description: The Rockies will make a decision Tuesday whether or not to put center fielder Dexter Fowler (wrist) on the 15-day disabled list.
Insight: Fowler is dealing with a strained right wrist that might be related to the bruised knuckle he suffered when he was hit by a pitch on June 13. "It's in the same hand, so it's tough to say if maybe he's compensating for the finger and putting himself in a bad position," Rockies manager Walt Weiss said. "The hand is tricky in this game. You take one swing and you can take a few steps back. We are going to try and let it calm down. We'll give it another day or two and take it from there." Fowler is not in the lineup Sunday.
Troy Tulowitzki, SS6/30/2013 10:59:00 AM
Description: Colorado shortstop Troy Tulowitzki (broken rib) fielded grounders, ran and then took light swings off a tee Saturday morning, according to the Denver Post.
Insight: Tulowitzki has been on the DL since June 14 with a fractured rib on his right side. The shortstop was given a 4-6 week timetable.
Carlos Gonzalez, LFCold6/30/2013 10:50:00 AM
Description: Rockies left fielder Carlos Gonzalez has gone 10-for-27 (.370) with three doubles, three homers and six RBI against Giants lefty Madison Bumgarner.
Insight: Gonzalez is cold lately, hitting .184 with zero homers and 15 strikeouts over his last nine games, but there's no way you can take the fantasy superstar out of your lineup.
Jorge De La Rosa, SP6/29/2013 6:28:00 PM
Description: Rockies starter Jorge De La Rosa left Saturday's start after 86 pitches due to ongoing issues with his left hand, according to Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post.
Insight: De La Rosa allowed one run on six hits, walked one and struck out four over six innings and now has a 3.09 ERA. The left-hander nearly missed a start earlier this month due to a cut on his left middle finger and then suffered a bruised left thumb on June 17.
Wilin Rosario, CHot6/29/2013 1:45:00 PM
Description: Rockies catcher Wilin Rosario is not in Saturday's starting lineup against San Francisco.
Insight: Simply a scheduled day of rest for the day game after a night game. Rosario continues to show off his power batting .274 with 13 HR, 40 RBI and a .792 OPS. On a modest six-game hitting streak you should expect him back in the lineup for Sunday's game.
Carlos Gonzalez, LF6/29/2013 10:09:00 AM
Description: Rockies left fielder Carlos Gonzalez is an ugly 4-for-38 (.105) with 14 strikeouts against San Francisco right-hander Matt Cain.
Insight: He's having another All-Star season, batting .300 with 21 HR, 59 RBI, 62 runs and 15 steals, but this is an unfavorable matchup.
Rafael Betancourt, RP6/28/2013 8:20:00 PM
Description: Colorado closer Rafael Betancourt has officially been activated from the disabled list.
Insight: Betancourt strained his groin earlier in the month. He's been pretty solid for the Rockies this season, collecting 11 saves in 12 chances.
Dexter Fowler, CF6/28/2013 6:24:00 PM
Description: Colorado center fielder Dexter Fowler is back in the lineup after missing the last two games with a sore wrist.
Insight: Fowler's MRI came back negative. He's only homered twice since April and both of those home runs came in the same game. Luckily, Fowler has still been able to hit for a high average even while his power has disappeared (.308 AVG in 65 June at bats).
Michael Cuddyer, RFHot6/28/2013 10:41:00 AM
Description: Hot-hitting Rockies right fielder Michael Cuddyer will be tested on Friday, facing Gianst starter Barry Zito as he's just 3-for-17 (.176) over his career.
Insight: Three more hits for Cuddyer on Thursday night stretched his franchise-record hitting streak to 24 games. For the season he's batting .351 with 13 HR, 45 RBI and a .999 OPS. Despite the poor matchup you should probably start him anyway.
Dexter Fowler, CF6/27/2013 4:45:00 PM
Description: Rockies center fielder Dexter Fowler is out of the lineup again Thursday due to his wrist injury.
Insight: Fowler nearly went on the disabled list last week with a right ring finger contusion that came from being hit by a pitch, and now he's dealing with right wrist soreness.
Michael Cuddyer, RFHot6/26/2013 7:15:00 PM
Description: Right fielder Michael Cuddyer provided most of the Rockies' offense Wednesday in a loss to Boston.
Insight: Cuddyer went 2-for-4 with a pair of homers. He's showing pitchers absolutely no mercy this month, hitting .346 in 78 June at bats. It's safe to pencil Cuddyer in for his second All-Star Game in the last three seasons.
Dexter Fowler, CF6/26/2013 3:11:00 PM
Description: Rockies center fielder Dexter Fowler is not in Wednesday's starting lineup against Boston while dealing with a sore right wrist.
Insight: Fowler is just 3-for-18 since missing time after being hit by a pitch. When healthy, he contributes across the board, batting .291 with 49 runs, 10 HR, 26 RBI and 12 steals as the Colorado leadoff hitter.
Michael Cuddyer, RF6/26/2013 9:36:00 AM
Description: Rockies outfielder Michael Cuddyer is a .316 hitter against Boston starter John Lackey with three home runs and a 1.170 OPS.
Insight: Cuddyer has hit safely in 22 straight games. He's hitting .341 with 11 homers and 43 RBI and should continue to be a strong fantasy option if he can stay off the DL.
Wilin Rosario, CHot6/25/2013 8:58:00 PM
Description: Rockies catcher Wilin Rosario is hitting .429 (15-for-35) with two homers and six RBI over his last 10 games.
Insight: Rosario batted .149 (10-for-67) with one homer and six RBI in 19 games from May 20 to June 13, but he has come back around. He's hitting .267 with 12 homers and 38 RBI overall.
Rafael Betancourt, RP6/25/2013 7:21:00 PM
Description: Rockies closer Rafael Betancourt (groin) will return to action Friday, according to the Denver Post.
Insight: Betancourt threw a live batting practice session Tuesday and declared himself "ready to go." The right-hander had 11 saves and a 3.20 ERA before going on the DL with a right groin strain. He's expected to get the closer role back from Rex Brothers.
Carlos Gonzalez, LF6/25/2013 9:43:00 AM
Description: Rockies left fielder Carlos Gonzalez is 5-for-9 with three extra base hits and a 1.667 OPS against Boston right-hander Ryan Dempster.
Insight: Gonzalez left Sunday's game due to dehydration, but we expect him to be ready to go for this nice matchup. He's having another All-Star season, batting .300 with 21 HR, 57 RBI, 61 runs and 13 steals.
Carlos Gonzalez, LFHot6/23/2013 10:26:00 PM
Description: Rockies left fielder Carlos Gonzalez left Sunday's game with leg cramps from dehydration but was feeling better after the game, according to Troy Renck of the Denver Post.
Insight: The Rockies have Monday off, so CarGo shouldn't have to miss any time.
Jorge De La Rosa, SP6/23/2013 6:21:00 PM
Description: Rockies starter Jorge De La Rosa improved to 8-4 with a win Sunday against the Nationals.
Insight: De La Rosa allowed seven hits and two runs over six innings. The left-hander has a 3.19 ERA and a 1.29 WHIP this season and has been useful both at Coors Field and on the road.
Dexter Fowler, CF6/23/2013 6:19:00 PM
Description: Rockies center fielder Dexter Fowler went 2-for-4 with a walk and two runs Sunday versus Washington.
Insight: Fowler was close to going on the DL Friday afternoon due to a ring finger contusion, but he felt good enough to start Friday night and has played in three straight games.
Nolan Arenado, 3B6/23/2013 6:14:00 PM
Description: Rockies third baseman Nolan Arenado has homered in two straight games.
Insight: Arenado was 2-for-19 with seven K over his previous five games, but he went 2-for-4 with a homer Sunday. The rookie is hitting .257 with seven longballs and 22 RBI this season.
Michael Cuddyer, RFHot6/23/2013 6:11:00 PM
Description: Rockies outfielder Michael Cuddyer went 3-for-4 with a homer and four RBI Sunday against the Nationals.
Insight: Cuddyer has hit safely in 27 straight starts and 21 straight games. He's hitting .339 with 11 homers and 43 RBI and should continue to be a strong fantasy option if he can stay off the DL.
Jhoulys Chacin, SPHot6/22/2013 8:29:00 PM
Description: For Rockies starter Jhoulys Chacin, it was all zeros Saturday against Washington.
Insight: Chacin (6-3, 3.92 ERA) allowed three hits over seven shutout frames, walking one and striking out three. He's won three straight, compiling a 1.74 ERA over that stretch.
Michael Cuddyer, RF6/22/2013 9:45:00 AM
Description: Rockies outfielder Michael Cuddyer is just 4-for-27 (.148) with 10 strikeouts against Nationals right-hander Dan Haren.
Insight: Cuddyer is having a very good season, batting .333 with 10 HR, 38 RBI and a .952 OPS over 54 games. This matchup, however, has proven to be a poor one in the past and fantasy owners shouldn't expect much.
Carlos Gonzalez, LFHot6/22/2013 9:44:00 AM
Description: Colorado superstar Carlos Gonzalez is 8-for-21 against Washington starter Dan Haren with four home runs and a 1.506 OPS.
Insight: He leads the NL in home runs (21), total bases (179) and runs scored (59) and is putting up fantasy All-Star numbers across the board. He's a must start.
Tyler Chatwood, SP6/21/2013 9:46:00 PM
Description: Rockies starter Tyler Chatwood gave up one run on four hits over six innings Friday in a no decision against Washington.
Insight: Chatwood has been terrific, posting a 2.22 ERA in 44 2/3 innings this season. The righty has a 60.2 percent groundball rate, which works well at Coors Field. He hasn't allowed a home run yet and actually has been unlucky with a .336 BABIP.
Dexter Fowler, CF6/21/2013 4:31:00 PM
Description: Rockies center fielder Dexter Fowler said his right ring finger feels better and that he's starting Friday against the Nationals, according to Thomas Harding of MLB.com.
Insight: The Rockies haven't released an official lineup yet, but Fowler insists he'll play. Earlier today, the Denver Post reported that the team expected to place Fowler on the DL prior to Friday's game, but that wasn't the case. He has been dealing with soreness in his finger after being hit by a pitch last week, but X-rays ruled out a fracture.
Tyler Colvin, RF6/21/2013 2:08:00 PM
Description: Rockies outfielder Tyler Colvin is likely confident about his ability to hit Washington ace Stephen Strasburg as he's faced him three times and owns a pair of home runs and a single.
Insight: Obviously a tiny sample size, but at least he knows he can hit Strasburg which not many can say. He'll likely get a start if Dexter Fowler's hand is still not healed.
Roy Oswalt, SP6/20/2013 9:54:00 PM
Description: Rockies pitcher Roy Oswalt gave up nine hits and four earned runs in five innings Thursday in his 2013 debut at Washington, but he struck out 11 with zero walks.
Insight: Oswalt hadn't struck out that many batters in a game since September 1, 2005. The righty had a 5.80 ERA and a 1.53 WHIP in 59 innings with Texas last season, but he should be a decent matchup play for his non-Coors-Field starts.
Roy Oswalt, SP6/20/2013 6:36:00 PM
Description: Colorado has purchased Roy Oswalt's contract from Double-A Tulsa. The veteran will make his team debut Thursday at Washington.
Insight: Oswalt had a 5.80 ERA and couldn't hold onto a rotation spot in his brief stint with Texas last season. Pitching in Colorado could be an issue for the right-hander.
Troy Tulowitzki, SS6/20/2013 6:15:00 PM
Description: Colorado shortstop Troy Tulowitzki (broken rib) could begin light baseball activities as soon as Monday, according to Thomas Harding of MLB.com.
Insight: Tulowitzki has been on the DL since June 14 with a fractured rib on his right side. The shortstop was given a 4-6 week timetable.
Dexter Fowler, CF6/20/2013 6:07:00 PM
Description: Rockies center fielder Dexter Fowler felt pain in his right ring finger while hitting in the cage Thursday, according to Thomas Harding of MLB.com.
Insight: Fowler was hit by a pitch in his hand last week. He's expected to have another X-ray to make sure he doesn't have a fracture.
Jeff Francis, SPCold6/19/2013 8:06:00 PM
Description: Jeff Francis just pitched himself right out of the Rockies' starting rotation.
Insight: According to the Denver Post, the Rockies are sending him down to Triple-A Colorado Springs. Francis' last outing was a disaster. In six innings Tuesday against Toronto, the lefthander allowed 10 hits and eight earned runs. His locker has already been cleared out.
Michael Cuddyer, RF6/19/2013 10:43:00 AM
Description: Rockies outfielder Michael Cuddyer had compiled a .318 average in 107 career at-bats against Mark Buehrle of the Blue Jays.
Insight: The two were opponents in the AL Central for many years. Cuddyer has picked up 11 doubles, three homers and four walks against Buehrle.
Jorge De La Rosa, SP6/18/2013 9:28:00 PM
Description: Despite bruising his thumb Monday against the Blue Jays, Rockies lefthander Jorge De La Rosa is hoping he can start Sunday versus the Nationals. SOURCE: Rockies.com
Insight: De La Rosa has pitched well this season, producing a 3.21 ERA in 15 starts. Colorado would probably have to call up someone from Triple-A if De La Rosa's thumb hasn't healed by this weekend.
Rafael Betancourt, RP6/18/2013 4:33:00 PM
Description: Rockies closer Rafael Betancourt (groin) threw 35 pitches in a side session Tuesday, according to Troy Renck of the Denver Post.
Insight: Betancourt said he felt really good. He'll face live hitters Friday and is nearing his return.
Dexter Fowler, CF6/18/2013 4:27:00 PM
Description: Rockies center fielder Dexter Fowler is not in the lineup Tuesday, according to Troy Renck of MLB.com.
Insight: Fowler was having trouble gripping the bat Monday. The outfielder has been dealing with a right ring finger injury after being hit by a pitch last Thursday.
Jorge De La Rosa, SP6/17/2013 10:07:00 PM
Description: Colorado lefthander Jorge De La Rosa did his job Monday against Toronto.
Insight: De La Rosa surrendered just one hit over seven scoreless innings. He walked three and struck out four. Unfortunately his teammates couldn't back him with any run support, as De La Rosa (7-4, 3.21 ERA) had to settle for the no-decision. His next start is Saturday against the Nationals.
Roy Oswalt, SP6/17/2013 5:12:00 PM
Description: Denver Post columnist Troy Renck expects Roy Oswalt to make his Rockies debut Thursday against Washington.
Insight: Oswalt was more down than up during his brief stint with Texas last season (5.80 ERA, .320 opponent batting average). Now he's a year older and playing half of his games at hitter-friendly Coors Field. We wouldn't put much faith in Oswalt.
Drew Pomeranz, SP6/16/2013 4:15:00 PM
Description: Colorado left-hander Drew Pomeranz, the No. 5 overall pick in the 2010 draft, leads the PCL with 82 strikeouts.
Insight: However, he has a 4.75 ERA. The left-hander has allowed at least four earned runs in each of his last five starts with Triple-A Colorado Springs. He had a 4.93 ERA and a 1.48 WHIP in 96 2/3 innings with the Rockies last season.
Michael Cuddyer, RF6/16/2013 11:15:00 AM
Description: Rockies outfielder Michael Cuddyer is batting .337 with 10 homers and 38 RBI in 187 at-bats this season, but he has never had a hit against Cole Hamels of the Phillies.
Insight: Cuddyer will serve as the cleanup hitter while Troy Tulowitzki is out with a broken rib and should be owned in all leagues, but he is 0-for-10 against Hamels.
Josh Rutledge, SS6/15/2013 9:00:00 PM
Description: Rockies shortstop Josh Rutledge went 0-for-6 with two strikeouts Saturday versus Philadelphia.
Insight: On a day when Colorado had 18 hits, four walks and 10 runs, Rutledge's output is simple unacceptable. He has a prime opportunity while Troy Tulowitzki is out with a broken rib, but he'll need to avoid days like this if he wants to stay in the majors.
Wilin Rosario, C6/15/2013 8:58:00 PM
Description: Rockies catcher Wilin Rosario had two doubles, a single, two RBI, three runs and a walk Saturday against Philadelphia.
Insight: Rosario has been in an extended slump and watched his OPS drop below .700 recently. He doesn't walk much, so he needs to keep his slugging percentage up if he's going to post an acceptable OPS.
Michael Cuddyer, RF6/15/2013 8:57:00 PM
Description: Rockies outfielder Michael Cuddyer went 2-for-4 with one RBI, two runs and a walk Saturday against the Phillies.
Insight: The veteran is hitting .337 this year and his value is on the rise because he is Colorado's best option to replace Troy Tulowitzki (broken rib; out 4-6 weeks) as the cleanup hitter.
Roy Oswalt, SP6/15/2013 6:06:00 PM
Description: Roy Oswalt is expected to join the Rockies' rotation Wednesday against the Blue Jays, according to the Denver Post.
Insight: Oswalt went 4-3 with a 5.80 ERA and a 1.53 WHIP in 59 innings with Texas last season, but he is 3-2 with a 2.16 ERA in his minor league appearances this year, including 8 1/3 shutout innings Friday with Double-A Tulsa. Pitching at Coors Field is tough on most starters, so Oswalt should only be added in NL-only leagues and 12-team mixed leagues for now.
Dexter Fowler, CF6/15/2013 3:10:00 PM
Description: Rockies center fielder Dexter Fowler is not in the starting lineup for Saturday's game against Philadelphia with a bruised right ring finger.
Insight: Fowler (.302, 10 HR, 26 RBI, 11 SB) didn't start Friday, but did pinch run and stole a base. Tyler Colvin (.278, 2 HR, 7 RBI) will start in center field.
Dexter Fowler, CF6/15/2013 11:18:00 AM
Description: Rockies center fielder Dexter Fowler is questionable for Saturday's game against Philadelphia with a bruised right ring finger.
Insight: Fowler (.302, 10 HR, 26 RBI, 11 SB) didn't start Friday, but did pinch run and stole a base. Tyler Colvin (.267, 2 HR, 7 RBI) would fill in at center field if Fowler can't go.
Troy Tulowitzki, SS6/14/2013 6:22:00 PM
Description: Colorado shortstop Troy Tulowitzki is expected to miss 4-to-6 weeks while he recovers from a broken rib. SOURCE: Thomas Harding, MLB.com
Insight: He's been placed on the disabled list. Josh Rutledge (.242, 5 HR, 13 RBI) and Jonathan Herrera (.303, 0 HR, 6 RBI) will both see time at shortstop while Tulo is on the shelf.
Josh Rutledge, SS6/14/2013 6:18:00 PM
Description: The Rockies have called up infielder Josh Rutledge from Triple-A Colorado Springs.
Insight: He's starting at second base Friday versus Philadelphia. He should see regular at bats while Troy Tulowitzki is out with a broken rib.
Dexter Fowler, CF6/14/2013 6:13:00 PM
Description: Rockies center fielder Dexter Fowler is sitting Friday against the Phillies. SOURCE: Patrick Saunders, Denver Post
Insight: Fowler (.302, 10 HR, 26 RBI, 11 SB) is dealing with a bruised knuckle on his right hand. Tyler Colvin (.267, 2 HR, 7 RBI) is filling in at center field.
Carlos Gonzalez, LF6/14/2013 6:11:00 PM
Description: Colorado left fielder Carlos Gonzalez appears to be okay after fouling a ball off his left foot Thursday against the Nationals.
Insight: He's back in the starting lineup Friday versus Philadelphia. Gonzalez is a .351 lifetime hitter against the Phillies.
Dexter Fowler, CF6/14/2013 9:41:00 AM
Description: Colorado center fielder Dexter Fowler took a pitch off his right hand Thursday and is questionable for Friday's game against Philadelphia with a bruised right ring finger.
Insight: Fowler (.302, 10 HR, 26 RBI, 47 runs) has been a very good fantasy value and the Rockies need his bat in the lineup with Troy Tulowitzski sidelined and Carlos Gonzalez limping.
Troy Tulowitzki, SS6/13/2013 9:59:00 PM
Description: According to the Denver Post, Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki will hit the disabled list with a broken rib.
Insight: Tulo's fantasy owners have to be feeling sick to their stomachs right now. The Colorado infielder has been a one-man wrecking crew this season, contributing 16 HR, 51 RBI and a .347 batting average in 61 games. His replacement, Josh Rutledge, won't give owners anything close to that kind of production.
Troy Tulowitzki, SS6/13/2013 7:38:00 PM
Description: Colorado shortstop Troy Tulowitzki is headed for an MRI on his sore ribs. SOURCE: Troy Renck, Denver Post
Insight: Tulowitzki went 1-for-3 before Yorvit Torrealba came in to pinch hit for him in the eighth inning. He's second in the NL in batting average (.347) behind Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina (.353).

Description: Colorado left fielder Carlos Gonzalez hurt his knee and ankle on Friday but neither injury was enough to keep him out of Saturday's starting lineup.

Description: Colorado pitching prospect Drew Pomeranz' recent struggles will prevent him from replacing Tyler Chatwood (triceps) in the rotation if Chatwood has to miss a start or go on the DL. Jeff Francis would be Chatwood's replacement, according to Troy Renck of the Denver Post.
Insight: Pomeranz has allowed 13 earned runs on 23 hits and walked eight batters over 16 2/3 innings in his last three starts with Triple-A Colorado Springs. Pomeranz, the No. 5 overall pick in the 2010 MLB Draft, has 70 strikeouts, 23 walks and a 4.26 ERA in 11 starts with Triple-A this season after struggling last year in the majors and likely will be up to the majors again at some point this season.

His numbers should continue to please fantasy owners as his career history is equally good in the second half of the season (.299 BA, .894 OPS) as the first half (.300 BA, .875 OPS). He's a must star on Monday.

Insight: Tulowitzki overcame a bad matchup against Clayton Kershaw and pounded out a couple of hits, maybe he can do it again on Saturday. He is normally a second-half hitter which bodes well for fantasy owners since he's already batting .337 with 12 HR, 43 RBI and a 1.022 OPS.

Description: Colorado shortstop Troy Tulowitzki is just a .211 hitter against Dodgers left-hander Clayton Kershaw.

Insight: Francis wasn't very good in his eight starts (2-3, 6.00 ERA, 1.583 WHIP) and there is no guarantee a spot will be waiting for him when he's finally healthy. His last winning season was 2007 when he went 17-9.

Through the first 40 games of 2013 he's batting .247 with five homers, 13 RBI and a .676 OPS. Avoid this matchup.
Dexter Fowler, CFHot5/20/2013 11:11:00 AM

Dexter Fowler, CF5/19/2013 8:11:00 PM
Description: Rockies center fielder Dexter Fowler mashed four hits Sunday in a win over San Francisco.
Insight: Fowler went 10-for-20 in the series with two RBI. That's the good news. The bad news is that Fowler (.286, 8 HR, 18 RBI) has struck out at least once in each of his last ten games and he hasn't homered since April 29th. At least he's finally beginning to steal some bases (two thefts in his last four games).
Todd Helton, 1B5/19/2013 3:52:00 PM
Description: Rockies first baseman Todd Helton won't be on the diamond Sunday against San Francisco.
Insight: With the lefthander Barry Zito throwing for the Giants, manager Walt Weiss thought Sunday would be a good time to give Helton a rest. Jordan Pacheco (.313, 1 HR, 11 RBI) is starting in Helton's place.
Wilin Rosario, CHot5/19/2013 11:39:00 AM
Description: Rockies catcher Wilin Rosario is 6-for-14 with two homers, seven RBI and five runs over his last three games.
Insight: Rosario's 28/6 K/BB is subpar, but he has raised his line-drive rate from 17.3 percent to 21.7 percent since 2012 and has a 20.5 percent HR/FB on a 41.5 percent flyball rate. With all those flyballs, he's perfect for Coors Field.
Troy Tulowitzki, SS5/19/2013 10:54:00 AM
Description: Colorado shortstop Troy Tulowitzki is the best shortstop in fantasy, but Giants starter Barry Zito has made him look silly in 44 career at-bats.
Insight: Tulowitzki has picked up just seven hits and struck out nine times in his career against Zito (.159). Zito has been terrific in 131 career innings against Colorado, going 8-2 with a 2.47 ERA and a 1.13 WHIP, although he is 0-2 with an 11.25 ERA and a 2.58 ERA in three road starts this season.
Josh Rutledge, SS5/18/2013 10:55:00 AM
Description: Colorado second baseman Josh Rutledge is just a .154 hitter (2-for-13) versus Giants starter Tim Lincecum.
Insight: Rutledge was expected to provide solid production for a second baseman after a good second half last season (.274, 8 HR, 37 RBI, .775 OPS in 277 at-bats), but he's not been able to produce at that level. Through the first 40 games of 2013 he's batting .247 with five homers, 13 RBI and a .676 OPS. Avoid this matchup.
Wilin Rosario, C5/18/2013 10:50:00 AM
Description: Rockies catcher Wilin Rosario is a career .455 hitter (1.509 OPS) versus two-time Cy Young Award winner Tim Lincecum.
Insight: Rosario's batting average has cooled over the past two weeks, but he's still doing everything fantasy owners expected of him before the season began - hitting for a decent average (.279) with plenty of power (8 HR, .815 OPS).
Michael Cuddyer, RF5/17/2013 11:30:00 AM
Description: Rockies right fielder Michael Cuddyer (.319, 7 HR, 23 RBI in 31 games) is struggling to get over his neck injury and at this point doesn't seem likely to be activated on his first day of eligibility (May 24).
Insight: He was still having problems as of Thursday and is a couple of days away from even starting baseball activities. Colorado is 2-6 since Cuddyer was knocked out of the lineup and scored zero or one run in half those games.
Carlos Gonzalez, LF5/17/2013 10:44:00 AM
Description: Colorado outfielder Carlos Gonzalez is a career .360 hitter with three home runs and a 1.269 OPS versus Giants left-hander Madison Bumgarner.
Insight: CarGo went 5-for-5 on Tuesday, but is hitless in the two games since then. He struggles against most of the Giants pitching staff with a career average of .216 and a .681 OPS, well below his career numbers of .299 and .879, respectively.
Carlos Gonzalez, LF5/16/2013 11:11:00 AM
Description: Colorado outfielder Carlos Gonzalez has been sent down often against Giants starter Matt Cain. He is 4-for-34 with 10 K versus San Francisco's scheduled starter Thursday.
Insight: CarGo went 5-for-5 with two homers Tuesday, but otherwise has been in a slump, going 2-for-24 with 11 strikeouts in his other at-bats since May 8.
Troy Tulowitzki, SS5/16/2013 11:05:00 AM
Description: Colorado shortstop Troy Tulowitzki should enjoy seeing Matt Cain on the mound Thursday for the Giants. Tulo is 18-for-53 (.340) with five doubles, four homers, six RBI and five walks against Cain.
Insight: Tulowitzki is the top shortstop in fantasy baseball as long as he can stay healthy. He has done that so far and is hitting .322 with eight homers, 32 RBI and a 1.013 OPS.
Carlos Gonzalez, LF5/14/2013 11:03:00 PM
Description: Colorado outfielder Carlos Gonzalez went 5-for-5 with two homers, three RBI and three runs Tuesday against the Cubs.
Insight: CarGo came in hitting just .095 (2-for-21) with 10 K over his last six games. CarGo actually has done more damage on the road this season, hitting six of his nine homers away from Coors Field after putting up a 1.046/.706 home/road OPS split last year.
Troy Tulowitzki, SS5/14/2013 12:01:00 PM
Description: Colorado shortstop Troy Tulowitzki has faced Cubs starter Carlos Villanueva just five times, but he's has a lot of success with three hits including a pair of home runs and a walk for a 3.300 OPS.
Insight: Tulowitzki is just 1-for-14 over the past four games, but is still batting .311 for the season with eight homers and 31 RBI. This favorable matchup should get him going again.
Carlos Gonzalez, LFCold5/13/2013 9:45:00 AM
Description: Colorado outfielder Carlos Gonzalez is hitless in seven at-bats versus Chicago Cubs left-hander Travis Wood with three strikeouts.
Insight: After a hot start (he was batting .371 on April 20), Cargo has struggled to produce of late and his average has fallen to .296, This matchup won't help. Gonzalez has a career .946 OPS in May, his best month statistically of the season, so we expect him to rebound quickly.
Jorge De La Rosa, SPHot5/12/2013 5:55:00 PM
Description: After a pair of near no-hitters against the Rockies Friday and Saturday, Colorado lefty Jorge De La Rosa returned the favor by taking a no-no into the seventh inning Sunday at Busch Stadium.
Insight: De La Rosa (4-3) has held his opponents scoreless in four of his past six outings including two in a row. His 2.98 ERA through eight starts represents a new career-high.
Michael Cuddyer, RF5/12/2013 10:38:00 AM
Description: Rockies right fielder Michael Cuddyer was not in Saturday's lineup due to a disc problem in his neck and has been placed on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 9.
Insight: "This is something I've dealt with since 2004," Cuddyer said. "When this happens, it locks me up. I can't turn my neck, and it makes it very difficult to play." Eric Young should receive most of Cuddyer's at-bats, although the team did call up outfielder Charlie Blackmon who is batting .336 at Colorado Springs.
Carlos Gonzalez, LF5/12/2013 10:15:00 AM
Description: Colorado outfielder Carlos Gonzalez is 4-for-9 (.444) against Cardinals left-hander Jaime Garcia with a home run among three extra base hits.
Insight: Gonzalez normally hits right-handers better than lefties, but has a nice record versus Garcia. Unfortunately, the Rockies bats have been silent in this series with a total of three hits and zero runs in two games.
Michael Cuddyer, RF5/12/2013 9:22:00 AM
Description: Rockies right fielder Michael Cuddyer was not in Saturday's lineup due to a disc problem in his neck and the latest information is that the team is likely to place him on the 15-day disabled list. he hasn't played since May 8.
Insight: "This is something I've dealt with since 2004," Cuddyer said. "When this happens, it locks me up. I can't turn my neck, and it makes it very difficult to play." Eric Young should receive most of Cuddyer's at-bats.
Wilin Rosario, C5/11/2013 1:42:00 PM
Description: Rockies catcher Wilin Rosario is not in the starting lineup for Saturday's game against St. Louis. No injury, just a rest day after a night game.
Insight: Rosario is doing everything fantasy owners could want - hitting for a decent average (.295) with plenty of power (7 HR, .864 OPS). He continues to produce top-five fantasy value at the catching position.
Michael Cuddyer, RF5/11/2013 12:50:00 PM
Description: Rockies right fielder Michael Cuddyer is not in Saturday's lineup due to a disc problem in his neck.
Insight: Cuddyer is considered day-to-day, but there are concerns the injury could linger. "This is something I've dealt with since 2004," Cuddyer said. "When this happens, it locks me up. I can't turn my neck, and it makes it very difficult to play."
Dexter Fowler, CF5/11/2013 9:47:00 AM
Description: Colorado center fielder Dexter Fowler is 1-for-10 with four strikeouts against Cardinals right-hander Adam Wainwright.
Insight: The outfielder is having another excellent season at the plate (.272, 8 HR, 15 RBI, 22 runs, .925 OPS), but struggles against Wainwright. Avoid.
Michael Cuddyer, RF5/10/2013 6:39:00 PM
Description: Rockies right fielder Michael Cuddyer is not in Friday's lineup due to a disc problem in his neck, according to Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post.
Insight: Cuddyer is considered day-to-day, but there are concerns the injury could linger. "This is something I've dealt with since 2004," Cuddyer said. "When this happens, it locks me up. I can't turn my neck, and it makes it very difficult to play."
Troy Tulowitzki, SS5/8/2013 7:25:00 PM
Description: Colorado shortstop Troy Tulowitzki (legs) is not in the starting lineup Wednesday against the Yankees.
Insight: Tulowitzki has been dealing tightness and fatigue in his legs. As fantasy owners know, he has a history of getting injured long-term, so it's probably best that the team plays it safe. He's hitting .348 with seven homers and 28 RBI in 2013.
Troy Tulowitzki, SS5/7/2013 5:40:00 PM
Description: Colorado shortstop Troy Tulowitzki (legs) is not in the starting lineup Tuesday against the Yankees.
Insight: Tulowitzki has been dealing tightness and fatigue in his legs. As fantasy owners know, he has a history of getting injured long-term, so it's probably best that the team plays it safe. He's hitting .348 with seven homers and 28 RBI in 2013.
Jhoulys Chacin, SP5/5/2013 4:20:00 PM
Description: Rockies starter Jhoulys Chacin (back) has been activated from the DL to start Sunday's game against the Rays.
Insight: Chacin was placed on the disabled list in the third week of April with a lower back strain and a lat muscle strain, but he was able to return in the minimum amount of time. The Rockies starter came into Sunday with a 3-0 record, a 1.46 ERA and a 0.89 WHIP.
Nolan Arenado, 3BHot5/5/2013 11:09:00 AM
Description: Rockies rookie third baseman Nolan Arenado is 8-for-26 with two doubles, two homers and seven RBI in his first six major league games.
Insight: Arenado ranks 59th on MLB.com's current list of the top 100 prospects in baseball. He batted .299 with 49 homers, 286 RBI and a 1.5 K/BB (10.2 K%) in 1,856 minor league plate appearances. He's here to stay and should be owned in all leagues.
Drew Pomeranz, SP5/4/2013 5:36:00 PM
Description: According to beat writer Troy Renck, Rockies pitching prospect Drew Pomeranz is getting close to a promotion. He is 4-0 with a 2.54 ERA and a 34/10 K/Bb in 28 1/3 innings for Triple-A Colorado Springs.
Insight: Pomeranz, the No. 5 overall pick in the 2010 MLB Draft, went 2-9 with a 4.93 ERA and a 1.48 WHIP in 22 starts last season, but it's difficult to trust the stats of any Rockies' pitchers considering the organization used a four-man rotation and limited its starters to 75 pitches for several months. Renck says he would not be surprised if the left-hander was called up this month.
Dexter Fowler, CF5/4/2013 5:33:00 PM
Description: Colorado center fielder Dexter Fowler (hip) is not in the starting lineup Saturday.
Insight: Fowler suffered a hip flexor injury Friday night when he collided with Sean Rodriguez. The outfielder likely is available to pinch-hit Saturday, according to Troy Renck of the Denver Post.
Troy Tulowitzki, SS5/4/2013 5:32:00 PM
Description: Colorado shortstop Troy Tulowitzki (legs) is back in the lineup Saturday, according to Troy Renck of the Denver Post.
Insight: Tulowitzki was limited to pinch-hitting Friday due to fatigue in his legs.
Troy Tulowitzki, SS5/4/2013 11:20:00 AM
Description: Colorado shortstop Troy Tulowitzki (legs) got into Friday night's game as a pinch hitter, but after walking was pulled for a pinch runner and is listed as questionable for Saturday's game against Tampa Bay.
Insight: Jonathan Herrera (.263, 0 HR, 3 RBI) will likely get the start in his place, but has little fantasy value.
Michael Cuddyer, RF5/4/2013 10:59:00 AM
Description: Rockies right fielder Michael Cuddyer is 1-for-12 (.083) in his career against Tampa Bay left-hander David Price with half the at-bats ending in strikeouts.
Insight: Cuddyer homered against on Friday night, his sixth of the season and has 22 RBI and a .317 batting average. With Tulowitzki likely out of the lineup again, Cuddyer will bat clean up, but this isn't a favorable matchup.
Dexter Fowler, CF5/4/2013 10:05:00 AM
Description: Colorado center fielder Dexter Fowler suffered a slight hip flexor injury Friday against Tampa Bay when he collided with Sean Rodriguez and is questionable for Saturday's game.
Insight: Eric Young Jr. would likely replace him in center field, though the injury didn't appear to be serious. Fowler has continue to build on last season and is averaging .303 with eight homers 21 runs and 15 RBI. If he plays he should be in your lineup.
Dexter Fowler, CF5/3/2013 10:40:00 PM
Description: Colorado center fielder Dexter Fowler suffered a hip flexor injury Friday against Tampa Bay. SOURCE: Thomas Harding, MLB.com
Insight: Eric Young Jr. replaced him in the fifth inning. Fowler (.310, 8 HR, 15 RBI) singled and walked in his only two plate appearances.
Troy Tulowitzki, SS5/3/2013 7:11:00 PM
Description: Colorado shortstop Troy Tulowitzki has "heavy legs." SOURCE: Thomas Harding, MLB.com
Insight: Whatever that means. He's not playing Friday against Tampa Bay. Jonathan Herrera (.265, 0 HR, 3 RBI) will get the start in his place.
Drew Pomeranz, SP5/3/2013 4:35:00 PM
Description: Drew Pomeranz is 4-0 with a 2.54 ERA and a 34/10 K/Bb in 28 1/3 innings for Triple-A Colorado Springs, the Rockies' affiliate.
Roy Oswalt, SP5/2/2013 6:35:00 PM
Description: The Rockies announced that they have signed Roy Oswalt to a minor league deal. He'll report to extended spring training.
Insight: Oswalt went 4-3 with a 5.80 ERA and a 1.53 WHIP in 59 innings with Texas last season, and landing in Colorado doesn't bode well for his fantasy prospects.
Troy Tulowitzki, SS5/1/2013 9:43:00 PM
Description: Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki will start Wednesday against the Dodgers. He missed Tuesday's game because of a strained rotator cuff.
Insight: Tulowitzki has recorded at least one RBI in three of his last four games. He's a .249 career hitter at Dodger Stadium.
Troy Tulowitzki, SS4/30/2013 11:35:00 AM
Description: Colorado shortstop Troy Tulowitzki is doubtful for Tuesday's game against the LA Dodgers after straining his left rotator cuff in Sunday's game.
Insight: Tulo is a high-risk, high-reward player whose next injury is always right around the corner, but this one doesn't sound too serious. He's started off well, batting .308 with six homers and 22 RBI, so fantasy owners want him back ASAP while his bat is still hot.
Troy Tulowitzki, SS4/29/2013 4:51:00 PM
Description: Colorado shortstop Troy Tulowitzki (shoulder) will only miss a game or two, according to the Denver Post. He left Sunday's game after straining his left rotator cuff.
Insight: Tulo is a high-risk, high-reward player whose next injury is always right around the corner, but this one doesn't sound too serious. He played just 47 games last year due to a groin injury.
Carlos Gonzalez, LF4/29/2013 2:05:00 PM
Description: Slumping Colorado outfielder Carlos Gonzalez has reason to smile as his Monday matchup against Dodgers lefty Ted Lilly is historically a favorable one.
Insight: Gonzalez is a .400 hitter with five home runs and 10 RBI in 20 at-bats versus Lilly. After a hot start, Cargo has hit just .114 over his last nine games with 11 strikeouts in 35 at-bats.
Eric Young, LF4/28/2013 8:10:00 PM
Description: Rockies outfielder Eric Young has been caught stealing four times on six attempts this year.
Insight: Young was 14-for-16 on stolen base attempts last year and 27-for-31 in 2011. He's hitting .314 with six doubles and three triples in 70 at-bats.
Troy Tulowitzki, SS4/28/2013 5:46:00 PM
Description: Colorado shortstop Troy Tulowitzki left Sunday's game against the Diamondbacks with a left shoulder strain.
Insight: Tulo is a high-risk, high-reward player whose next injury is always right around the corner. He played just 47 games last year due to a groin injury.
Nolan Arenado, 3B4/28/2013 3:23:00 PM
Description: The Rockies have designated Chris Nelson for assignment and called up third base prospect Nolan Arenado from Triple-A.
Insight: Arenado led all of Minor League Baseball in 2011 with 122 RBIs and while he underwhelmed with a .285 average, 12 homers and 56 RBIs in 134 games with Tulsa last season, the 22-year-old had a strong spring and was batting .364 with 11 doubles, three homers and 21 RBIs for Triple-A. He should be added in most leagues.
Todd Helton, 1B4/25/2013 6:04:00 PM
Description: Rockies first baseman Todd Helton will require a stint on the 15-day disabled list.
Insight: The veteran is dealing with inflammation in his left forearm. Michael Cuddyer is likely to start at first base in Helton's absence with Eric Young Jr. occupying Cuddyer's post in right field.
Michael Cuddyer, RF4/25/2013 9:52:00 AM
Description: Rockies right fielder Michael Cuddyer is 2-for-18 (.111) in his career against Diamondbacks starter Trevor Cahill.
Insight: Cuddyer is batting .333 with five homers, 15 RBIs and 12 runs and Cahill is 1-4 with a 5.30 ERA and 1.46 WHIP in six career starts against the Rockies, so Cuddyer shouldn't be removed from the lineup Thursday.
Todd Helton, 1B4/24/2013 10:29:00 AM
Description: Colorado first baseman Todd Helton is a career .667 hitter (12-for-18) against Braves veteran right-hander Tim Hudson.
Insight: Helton hasn't played since Friday due to a forearm injury, but this would be a great matchup for him to return. No longer a fantasy superstar, owners have to pick their spots with Helton and this could be one of them. If he's in the Rockies lineup, he should be in your fantasy lineup.
Jhoulys Chacin, SP4/23/2013 6:48:00 PM
Description: Rockies starter Jhoulys Chacin (back) expects to return to the rotation as soon as he is eligible to come off the DL. SOURCE: Rockies.com
Insight: Chacin was placed on the disabled list Sunday with a lower back strain and a lat muscle strain, but he hopes to return May 5 at home against the Rays. The Rockies starter is 3-0 with a 1.46 ERA and 0.89 WHIP.
Jhoulys Chacin, SP4/21/2013 4:09:00 PM
Description: Rockies starter Jhoulys Chacin has been placed on the DL with a lower back strain.
Insight: The injury initially was believed to be an oblique strain but Chacin just appears to be suffering from back spasms. The Rockies starter is 3-0 with a 1.46 ERA and 0.89 WHIP.
Jhoulys Chacin, SP4/21/2013 1:34:00 PM
Description: Rockies starter Jhoulys Chacin's sore left oblique will keep him out of his next scheduled start and possibly more, according to Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post.
Insight: Chacin is 3-0 with a 1.46 ERA and 0.89 WHIP, but he suffered the injury during Friday's start. He could be placed on the DL if the Rockies determine he has to miss two or more starts.
Jorge De La Rosa, SP4/21/2013 9:28:00 AM
Description: Rockies starter Jorge De La Rosa two-hit Arizona over six scoreless innings Saturday night to win his second game of the season. He struck out four and walked two.
Insight: De La Rosa has allowed just four hits and no runs over his last two starts (12 IP). His first three starts came on the road, so it was good to see him dominate at Coors Field Saturday. We're still wary of using him there, but he should certainly be owned in most leagues.
Michael Cuddyer, RF4/21/2013 9:26:00 AM
Description: Rockies right fielder Michael Cuddyer went 1-for-4 with his fourth home run of the season Saturday night.
Insight: Cuddyer missed Thursday's game with a leg injury, but he is now batting .357 with four homers, 13 RBIs, 10 runs and two steals. He's hitting .500 (11-for-22) with two bombs at Coors Field this season after not getting much of a boost from playing there last year.
Michael Cuddyer, RF4/20/2013 1:59:00 PM
Description: Rockies right fielder Michael Cuddyer returned to the lineup on Friday - he has been dealing with tightness in his hamstring, but he should not be in your fantasy lineup.
Insight: Cuddyer, who sat out Thursday with the leg injury, was back in the lineup on Friday. He's off to a solid start - .365, 3 HR, 12 RBI but he's just 1-for-14 against Arizona starter Trevor Cahill.
Jhoulys Chacin, SP4/20/2013 1:50:00 PM
Description: Rockies starter Jhoulys Chacin will have an MRI on his sore left oblique and the answer will give us a clearer picture of whether he will make his next start.
Insight: Chacin is 3-0 with a 1.46 ERA and 0.892 WHIP and has become a valuable fantasy property. His absence would be felt if he is sidelined.
Michael Cuddyer, RF4/19/2013 11:41:00 AM
Description: Rockies right fielder Michael Cuddyer is probable for Friday's game against Arizona while dealing with tightness in his hamstring.
Insight: Cuddyer sat out Thursday with the leg injury in part because of the cold weather. He's off to a solid start - .367, 3 HR, 12 RBI and fantasy owners would like to have him back in the lineup as the Rockies continue a long homestand.
Troy Tulowitzki, SS4/19/2013 11:16:00 AM
Description: Colorado shortstop Troy Tulowitzki is 3-for-17 (.176) against Diamondbacks' right-hander Ian Kennedy.
Insight: Both Tulowitzki and Carlos Gonzalez have struggled against Kennedy which doesn't bode well for the Rockies' chances or for big fantasy totals from the Colorado lineup.
Carlos Gonzalez, LF4/19/2013 11:14:00 AM
Description: Colorado outfielder Carlos Gonzalez has struggled in his matchups with Arizona right-hander Ian Kennedy, batting .174 with nine strikeouts in 23 at-bats.
Insight: Gonzalez is off to a great start batting .400 with four homers and a 1.222 OPS, but this matchup is a tough one.
Josh Rutledge, SS4/18/2013 8:50:00 PM
Description: Colorado second baseman Josh Rutledge is only batting .222 this season, but he has two homers, four steals and 15 runs in 14 games. He went 1-for-2 with a solo homer and two walks Thursday against the Mets.
Insight: Rutledge has primarily hit second in the order this season in front of Carlos Gonzalez and Troy Tulowitzki, which gives him an opportunity to score plenty of runs. But his batting average will remain low if he doesn't get both the 68.3 percent groundball rate and the 19.7 percent strikeout rate down.
Troy Tulowitzki, SS4/18/2013 8:38:00 PM
Description: Colorado shortstop Troy Tulowitzki went 2-for-4 with a homer, two RBIs and a walk Thursday against the Mets.
Insight: Tulowitzki has four homers and 13 RBIs in 14 games this season. Fantasy owners will keep their fingers crossed all season that he stays healthy, because he provides a major advantage as the best player at an extremely shallow position.
Jon Garland, SP4/18/2013 8:35:00 PM
Description: Rockies starter Jon Garland improved to 2-0 with seven innings of two-run ball Thursday afternoon against the Mets.
Insight: Garland didn't pitch in the big leagues last season and only made nine starts in 2011, but he has a 3.32 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and three quality starts in three turns this year. Garland has a career GB% of 45.2 and has kept the ball on the ground on 57.1 percent of his batted balls this year, which helps immensely at Coors Field.
Eric Young, LF4/18/2013 8:32:00 PM
Description: Rockies outfielder Eric Young went 3-for-5 Thursday against the Mets, but he was caught stealing for the third time this year.
Insight: Young was only caught twice in 16 attempts last season. He's hitting .289 after Thursday, but doesn't play every day.
Dexter Fowler, CF4/18/2013 8:23:00 PM
Description: Rockies outfielder Dexter Fowler hit home run No. 7 Thursday against the Mets.
Insight: Fowler hit 13 homers all of last season (454 at-bats), 10 of which came at Coors Field. He already has four homers on the road this year. His ridiculous 54.8 percent HR/FB eventually will drop, but his impressive line-drive rate and favorable home park makes him a must-own in all leagues.
Michael Cuddyer, RF4/18/2013 12:55:00 PM
Description: Rockies right fielder Michael Cuddyer has been scratched from Thursday's starting lineup. SOURCE: Troy Renck, Denver Post
Insight: He's sitting out with a minor leg injury. If it was June and it was 70 degrees outside, Cuddyer (.367, 3 HR, 12 RBI) would probably be out there but instead it's April and it's been snowing all week in Denver. Eric Young Jr. (.242, 0 HR, 3 RBI) is getting the start in place of Cuddyer.
Troy Tulowitzki, SS4/18/2013 12:28:00 PM
Description: Colorado shortstop Troy Tulowitzki has returned to the starting lineup for Thursday's game against the Mets.
Insight: Tulo didn't start the second game of Tuesday's double-header after getting hit by a pitch in the opener but he did make a pinch-hitting appearance later in the game. Tulowitzki (.289, 3 HR, 11 RBI in 13 games) remains one of the top shortstops in fantasy.
