Yale awarded top overall seed for NCAA hockey tourney
Indianapolis, IN (Sports Network) - Yale, North Dakota, Boston College and Miami-Ohio have been selected as the top seeds for the 2011 NCAA hockey tournament.
Yale was awarded the top overall seed for the tournament and will be the No. 1 seed in the East Regional. The Bulldogs will face Air Force in the first round on March 25 in Bridgeport, Connecticut, while Union (NY) and Minnesota-Duluth will square off in the other first-round game of the East Region. The winners will meet on March 26 for a spot in the Frozen Four.
North Dakota is the top seed in the Midwest Regional and will open play in Green Bay against Rensselaer on March 26. Denver and Western Michigan will meet in the other first-round game in the Midwest. The winners will square off on March 27.
Boston College earned the No. 1 seed in the West Regional and will face Colorado College in the first round on March 25 in St. Louis. The winner will take on the winner between Michigan and Nebraska-Omaha for the regional title on March 26.
Miami-Ohio will head the Northeast Regional and will face New Hampshire in the first round on March 26. Despite being the fourth seed, New Hampshire will be playing a virtual home game in Manchester. The other contest in the Northeast Regional will pit Merrimack against Notre Dame, and the winners will play on March 27.
The regional champs will advance to the Frozen Four, which begins with national semifinal games on April 7 at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minnesota. The championship game is scheduled for April 9.
