Warner has established himself as one of the top running backs and kick returners in FCS this season, ranking near the top nationally in rushing, kickoff returns and all-purpose running for a team ranked in the top-10 of FCS. Warner rushed for 525 yards and five touchdowns as a junior in his first year with Southern Illinois, helping the Salukis advance to the FCS semifinals and post a 12-2 record. He finished third on the team in all-purpose yards with 728. Warner had a 62-yard touchdown run to help spark SIU to a 34-27 victory over Massachusetts in the quarterfinals of the playoffs. He was a first-team junior college All-American running back at Gulf Coast Community College in 2006, rushing for 1,237 yards and 12 TDs.
