Sears joins Sacramento State as defensive coordinator

Sacramento, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Former Weber State head football coach Jody Sears will remain in the Big Sky Conference as Sacramento State's new defensive coordinator under Marshall Sperbeck.

Sears served as Weber State's head coach the past two seasons, including the 2012 campaign on an interim basis. He compiled a 4-19 overall record.

Sears also coached at Eastern Washington from 2000-07, including the 2003-07 seasons as defensive coordinator. He went on to coach for four seasons at Washington State, his alma mater, including three as co-defensive coordinator.

"We're excited to have a coach with Jody's background on our staff," Sperbeck said. "Having been a head coach in this conference and a defensive coordinator in the Pac-12, he brings a lot of experience to the position."

Sears' official start date at Sacramento State will be April 1.

Sacramento State had a 5-7 record, including 4-4 in the Big Sky, last season.
