Burgess to be inducted into Division II Hall of Fame

Florence, AL (Sports Network) - Former Jacksonville State head coach Bill Burgess will be inducted into the NCAA Division II Football Hall of Fame on Dec. 16.

Burgess coached the Gamecocks from 1985 to 1996, with four of those years at the FCS level, when Jacksonville State moved up in 1993.

Leading the Gamecocks to five Gulf South Conference titles and the 1992 national championship, Burgess who compiled a 69-22-4 record at the Division II level - while his overall record is 84-49-4 - is the fourth coach enshrined.

It's the second honor in the past two years for Burgess, as the Gamecocks' football facility is now called Burgess-Snow Field at JSU Stadium.

The other members of this year's class are Sonoma State offensive lineman Larry Allen (1992-93) and Mississippi College running back Fred McAfee (1987-90).
