Jacksonville State to host five teams, visit Kentucky

Jacksonville, AL (Sports Network) - Jacksonville State football will play five home games and visit Southeastern Conference member Kentucky as part of its 2011 schedule.

The Gamecocks will open the season at home with an Ohio Valley Conference game against UT Martin on Thursday, Sept. 1. Their other home games are against FCS independent Georgia State Sept. 17 and OVC members Eastern Illinois Sept. 24, Tennessee Tech on Homecoming Day Oct. 29 and Eastern Kentucky Nov. 5

Jacksonville State will wrap up a three-game roadswing with an Oct. 22 game in Lexington against Kentucky. It is the first matchup between the two teams.

Last year, the Gamecocks posted a season-opening win over an SEC team, 49-48 in double overtime at Ole Miss. Coach Jack Crowe's squad went on to finish 9-3 and secure a No. 12 final ranking in The Sports Network/Fathead.com FCS Top 25.
