Manhattan, KS (SportsNetwork.com) - The Kansas State Wildcats were able to beat Big-12 foe West Virginia Mountaineers 35-12 at Bill Snyder Stadium, thanks to Jake Waters' three touchdown passes.
The Wildcats (3-4, 1-3 Big-12) were able to overcome a slow start on Saturday. Waters had 198 passing yards on a very efficient 10-of-13 passing. John Hubert led the team on the ground with 86 yards and a score on 19 carries. Tyler Lockett had eight catches with 111 yards and three touchdowns. Curry Sexton added 112 yards on six receptions.
The Mountaineers (3-5, 1-4) found themselves up early but were unable to capitalize. Clint Trickett had 227 yards on 15-of-28 passing. Charles Sims had 43 yards on the ground on eight attempts. Ronald Carswell had 65 yards on three catches.
The Wildcats would score first in this contest when Waters hit Lockett on a 35-yard touchdown pass with 3:57 left in the first quarter.
West Virginia would counter with a six-yard touchdown run by Trickett.
The Mountaineers' next two scores would be field goals. Josh Lambert hit a 21- yard attempt in the second stanza and a 50-yarder in the third quarter.
With 2:16 left in the third period, the Wildcats took the lead with a nine- yard touchdown pass from Daniel Sams to Lockett.
Waters hit Tramaine Thompson on a 30-yard touchdown pass to put the Wildcats up 21-12 with 11:11 left in the game.
Kansas State didn't let off the gas pedal as Waters connected with Lockett again, this time on a 24-yard touchdown toss.
With just 21 seconds left, Hubert recorded a four-yard touchdown run to put Kansas State up 35-12.
