Greenville, NC (Sports Network) - Logan Thomas threw for 258 yards and two

off the East Carolina Pirates, 15-10, in non-conference action from Dowdy-

as he finished with 99 yards and a touchdown on eight catches.
Shane Carden threw for 158 yards and a touchdown for the Pirates (2-1),
although he was also intercepted three times in the loss.
Carden got the scoring started with a 22-yard touchdown pass to Bryce Williams
less than two minutes into the game.
Later in the first quarter, Virginia Tech struck back with a 30-yard scoring
strike from Thomas to Knowles, capping an 11-play, 70-yard drive that ate up
six minutes of game clock.
The score remained tied until ECU's Warren Harvey kicked a 44-yard field goal
to give the Pirates a 10-7 lead at the 8:49 mark of the third quarter.
However, VT answered with a 10-play, 75-yard drive, punctuated by a three-yard
touchdown pass from Thomas to D.J. Coles. Cody Journell missed the extra point
as the Hokies clung to a three-point lead.
Still trailing by three with just over two minutes remaining in regulation and
the ball at their own 10-yard line, the Pirates had one last chance to tie or
go ahead. Instead, Carden was sacked on first down and James Gayle stripped
the ball in the end zone for a Hokies safety.
Journell missed two field goals and an extra point on the day. However, the
Hokies defense headlined the victory, as they racked up seven sacks, 11
