Lafayette, LA (Sports Network) - Blaine Gautier threw for 238 yards and four
touchdowns to lead Louisiana to a 30-10 victory over North Texas in Sun Belt
Conference action at Cajun Field.
Ladarius Green added two receiving touchdowns for Louisiana (6-1, 4-0 Sun
Belt), which has won six consecutive games.
Lance Dunbar rushed for 53 yards and one touchdown on 19 carries for North
Texas (2-5, 1-2), which only registered 232 yards of total offense. Derek
Thompson completed 11-of-22 passes for 86 yards and one interception for the
North Texas struck first on a 24-yard field goal early in the first quarter,
but Gautier responded with a six yard touchdown pass to Green, which capped a
five-play, 76-yard drive. Dunbar gave North Texas back the lead in the closing
seconds of the first quarter, rushing for a two-yard touchdown to make it
Green caught his second score of the day at the 8:57 mark of the second
quarter, this time a 25-yard strike from Gautier that made it 13-10.
Both teams struggled to gain traction offensively in a scoreless third
but Louisiana's offense put the game out of reach in the final 15 minutes.
Gautier hit Darryl Surgent for a 44-yard touchdown pass in the opening seconds
of the fourth quarter to pad the lead at 20-10. Louisiana capitalized on a
Thompson interception later in the quarter, as Gautier hit Javone Lawson on a
24-yard touchdown pass with 8:55 remaining.
Brett Baer provided the exclamation point with 44 seconds remaining,
on a 31-yard field goal to make it 30-10.
Both teams struggled to establish the run, combining for just 183 yards. North
Texas recorded a 2.3 yards per carry average, while Louisiana managed 2.6.
