Houston, TX (Sports Network) - G.J. Kinne threw for 318 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Tulsa Golden Hurricane to a 38-20 victory over the Rice Owls in a Conference-USA tilt at Rice Stadium.

Kinne completed 21-of-34 under center in the win for Tulsa (4-3, 3-0 C-USA), and also gained 34 yards with a touchdown on the ground. Willie Carter caught nine passes for 160 yards and a score for the Golden Hurricane, while Trey Watts ran for 68 yards and a touchdown.

Nick Fanuzzi threw for 234 yards with a touchdown and no interceptions to lead Rice (2-5, 1-3) in the losing effort. Luke Willson hauled in seven receptions for 104 yards and a touchdown for the Owls, while Tyler Smith led the ground game with 66 yards on 15 carries.

Tulsa struck first in this one, as a one-yard Kinne plunge gave the Golden Hurricane a 7-0 lead early in the opening period of play.

Kinne gave the Golden Hurricane a 14-0 lead just minutes later, this time completing a 13-yard scoring toss to Watts.

A 52-yard field goal from Kevin Fitzpatrick late in the frame extended the Tulsa advantage to 17-0.

The Owls got on the board early in the second quarter with a 32-yard Chris Boswell field goal.

Kinne found Carter for a 64-yard completion with under a minute remaining in the half to give Tulsa a 24-3 lead.

But the Owls managed to cut the lead to 24-10 as time winded down in the frame, as Fanuzzi completed a 40-yard strike to Willson, capping a six-play, 66-yard scoring drive.

The Owls added a 36-yard Boswell kick late in the third quarter.

A three-yard scoring run from Watts extended the Tulsa advantage to 31-13 early in the final quarter.

The Owls pulled to within 31-20 following a two-yard scoring run by Turner Petersen late in the frame, but a 41-yard pass from Kinne to Ricky Johnson just minutes later iced the contest for Tulsa.
