NCAA Game Summary - FIU at Louisville

(Friday, September 9th)

Final Score: FIU 24, Louisville 17

Louisville, KY (Sports Network) - Wesley Carroll threw a pair of long scoring passes to T.Y. Hilton and Winston Fraser returned an interception 71 yards for a touchdown, as FIU held off Louisville, 24-17, Friday night.

Carroll completed 14-of-21 passes for 248 yards. Hilton caught seven balls for a school-record 201 yards for the Panthers (2-0), who were coming off a 41-16 rout of North Texas last Thursday.

Will Stein went 30-of-43 for 349 yards and a pair of touchdowns against one interception for the Cardinals (1-1), who topped Murray State, 21-9, the previous Thursday.

DeVante Parker made an over-the-shoulder catch at the goal line that resulted in a 26-yard touchdown play with 1:49 left in the game for the Cardinals, but Glenn Coleman recovered the onside kick for FIU.

The Panthers were unable to get an additional first down, but a punt pinned Louisville at its three. On 4th-and-1, Stein completed a pass to Scott Radcliff, who attempted a lateral, which was recovered by FIU's Sam Miller to seal the outcome for the defending Sun Belt Conference champions.

Fraser picked off Stein on a slant pass and rumbled to the end zone midway through the opening quarter.

Chris Philpott made a 30-yard field goal with 13:35 left in the second, but Hilton outraced defenders down the right sideline for a 74-yard scoring play just 89 seconds later.

Hilton's next score, an 83-yarder, came less than three minutes after his first TD. This time he received a bomb over the middle and powered to the end zone for a 21-3 cushion.

Stein threw six yards to Michaelee Harris for a 21-10 game in the final minute of the half, but Jack Griffin kicked a 29-yard field goal with 8:37 remaining in the third.

FIU's defense came up big early in the fourth, stuffing Jeremy Wright for a four-yard loss on a 4th-and-1 play from the seven.
