Chapel Hill, NC (Sports Network) - Giovani Bernard rushed for 109 yards and a
touchdown as the North Carolina Tar Heels bested the Louisville Cardinals 14-7
in a non-conference game at Kenan Memorial Stadium
Bryn Renner was 12-of-18 through the air for 178 yards and a score as North
Carolina (5-1) won its second straight. Dwight Jones caught four balls for 91
yards and a touchdown.
Teddy Bridgewater was 19-of-30 through the air for Louisville (2-3) for 173
yards and a score. Dominic Brown collected 80 yards in total offense and
scored his team's lone touchdown, while Eli Rogers caught five balls for 56
The first points of the game didn't come until Bernard scored from three yards
out to give the Tar Heels a 7-0 lead with 7:11 left in the third quarter.
North Carolina extended its lead when Renner hit Jones with a 43-yard
touchdown throw with 12:19 left in the game.
Louisville got on the board when Bridgewater hit Brown with an 18-yard scoring
pass with 42 seconds left in regulation but North Carolina recovered the
subsequent onside kick.
North Carolina prevailed despite accumulating just 86 net rushing yards. The
game was marred by penalties, as the two teams were penalized 16 times between
them for 126 yards.
