Miami, FL (Sports Network) - Perry Jones threw a 37-yard touchdown pass and hauled in a 78-yard score for Virginia as the Cavaliers were able to hang on late to defeat the Miami Hurricanes, 28-21.

Jones also had 67 yards on the ground. Kevin Parks added 85 yards rushing on 16 carries for Virginia (5-3, 2-2 ACC), which has won three of its last four.

Michael Rocco completed 11-of-20 passes for 226 yards and two touchdowns in the victory.

Tommy Streeter caught seven balls for a career-high 176 yards and two scores for the Hurricanes (4-4, 2-3), who had their two-game winning streak snapped. With the loss they fell to 15-3 in Thursday night games.

Jacory Harris had 311 yards and three touchdowns on 21-of-30 passing, but left with nine seconds left in the game with an apparent right-arm injury.

Allen Hurns pulled the Hurricanes to within 28-21 with a nine-yard touchdown reception with 9:22 to go in the game.

After Virginia's first three-and-out of the contest, the 'Canes took over with 7:13 to play. But Laroy Reynolds got in the backfield on a 4th-and-1 to stop Mike James as the Cavaliers took over with 2:10 left.

Miami got the ball back with 25 seconds left.

Harris left the game with his right arm dangling as he walked off the field with nine seconds left after his heave into the end zone fell incomplete. Stephen Morris came on for Harris and completed a pass to Eduardo Clements on the final play, but Virginia's defense brought him down at the nine-yard line as time expired.

The Cavaliers struck first on their third possession when Darius Jennings took a wide-receiver screen 53 yards for the score.

Jacob Hodges picked up 20 yards on a fake field goal to set up Virginia's next score, a 22-yard field goal by Robert Randolph to give the Cavaliers a 10-0 lead early in the second quarter.

After a Harris fumble, Tim Smith hauled in a 37-yard reception on a halfback pass by Jones to make it a 17-0 game.

Travis Benjamin made a spectacular over-the-shoulder grab for a 39-yard gain to the three. Harris lobbed one up for Streeter on the next play make it a 17-7 game with 35 seconds to go until halftime.

Virginia opened up the second half with a 24-yard field goal by Randolph to push its lead to 20-7.

Streeter scored his second touchdown on a 51-yard strike in double coverage late in the third quarter, but the Cavaliers struck right back when Jones took a quick slant 78 yards to the end zone. Virginia converted on the two-point conversion to make it a 28-14 game early in the fourth quarter.
