NCAA Game Summary - Miami-Florida at North Carolina

(Saturday, October 15th)

Final Score: Miami-Florida 30, North Carolina 24

Chapel Hill, NC (Sports Network) - The Miami Hurricanes jumped all over the Tar Heels early, thanks to three TD passes from quarterback Jacory Harris, and held on late for their first ACC victory of the season, a 30-24 win over North Carolina at Kenan Stadium in Chapel Hill.

The Tar Heels (5-2, 1-2 ACC) held Miami's talented tailback Lamar Miller to a mere 29 yards rushing, but could not contain Harris, who completed 20-of-30 passes, for 267 yards and three TDs in the game.

UNC's Bryn Renner completed 29-of-37 passes, for 288 yards and two TDs in the losing effort, while tailback Giovani Bernard rushed for 110 yards and one score for the Heels.

Miami (3-3, 1-2 ACC), went on a 71-yard drive to open things up, capped off by a four-yard Jacory Harris to Mike James touchdown, and the Hurricanes never looked back.

Miami then recovered a fumble on the ensuing kickoff and Harris hit Tommy Streeter for a 27-yard touchdown on the very next play from scrimmage to extend Miami's lead to 14-0 just over six minutes into the game. Miami made it 17-0 in the first quarter with a 41-yard field goal by Jake Wieclaw at the 1:41 mark.

The hometown Tar Heels finally got on the scoreboard early in the second quarter with a Thomas Moore 20-yard field goal, but Miami would get that right back on the next drive, with a 43-yard Wieclaw field goal. The Hurricanes added to their lead just over four minutes later, as Harris hit wideout Travis Benjamin with a 30-yard TD pass.

The Tar Heels cut the Miami lead to 27-10 late in the first half, as Renner engineered a 13-play drive, capped off by a four-yard TD pass to wideout Dwight Jones.

The score would remain the same, as neither team was able to get on the board in the third quarter.

The Tar Heels made their move in the final stanza, scoring on a three-yard TD run by Bernard and a 20-yard TD pass from Renner to Reggie Wilkins, sandwiched around a 28-yard field goal by Miami's Wieclaw.

North Carolina was able to recover an on-side kick following the Wilkins' TD reception, but turned the ball over on downs to end the game.
