Oxford, MS (Sports Network) - The Louisiana Tech defense scored a pair of
touchdowns as they helped push the Bulldogs to a 27-7 win over the Ole Miss
Rebels in non-conference action at Vaught-Hemmingway Stadium.
The Bulldogs (6-4), winners of five in a row, followed the lead set by Hunter
Lee who gained 127 yards on 24 rushing attempts, while Colby Cameron connected
on 13-of-27 passes for 180 yards and a touchdown in the triumph as well.
The Rebels (2-8) generated just 307 yards of total offense as they dropped
their fifth straight outing. Quarterbacks Zack Stoudt and Randall Mackey
combined to hit 14-of-37 passes for 179 yards and a score, but were also taken
down a collective three times behind the line of scrimmage.
Ole Miss scored the only points of the first quarter on a 34-yard TD pass play
between Mackey and Brandon Bolden, but from there the game belonged to LaTech.
In the second quarter the Bulldogs tied the game on a 21-yard TD pass from
Cameron to Taulib Ikharo, while a 43-yard field goal from Matt Nelson put the
team ahead for good at 10-7 heading into the break.
Nelson added a 35-yard field goal in the third quarter, while Chad Boyd
scooped up a fumble and returned it 33 yards for a TD to make the score 20-7.
Early in the fourth quarter Louisiana Tech put the game out of reach when
Javontay Crowe returned an interception 26 yards for a score and give the
Bulldogs a 20-point cushion.
The visitors posted just 350 yards of total offense and converted a mere 4-
of-17 on third down on the night.
