Dallas, TX (Sports Network) - Navy racked up 335 rushing yards and three
touchdowns on the ground, and that was enough for the Midshipmen to slip past
the SMU Mustangs, 24-17, in Dallas.
Quarterback Kriss Proctor led the way for Navy () with 107 yards on 17 carries,
while Alex Teich added 90 yards.
Zach Line led the way for SMU's rushing attack, rumbling for 135 yards. J.J.
McDermott threw for 249 yards and one touchdown for the Mustangs (), but he was
also intercepted twice.
The only score in the first quarter came off the foot of Jon Teague, as Navy's
kicker drilled a 39-yard field goal.
A one-yard run by Gee Gee Greene early in the second stanza improved Navy's
lead to 10-0.
However, the Mustangs responded right before intermission, as Chase Hover
connected on a 28-yard field goal as time expired in the second quarter.
SMU looked like a different team out of the break, as the offense went 80 yards
on nine plays, tying the score at 10 apiece with a seven-yard touchdown pass
from McDermott to Cole Beasley.
The Midshipmen responded with two straight touchdowns. The first was a one-yard
score by John Howell, while Mike Stukel made it a two touchdown advantage with
a five-yard scamper.
The Mustangs were able to cut their deficit in half late in the fourth frame
with a two-yard touchdown run by Beasley.
However, the Mustangs would come no closer, as Navy was able to hold on for the
