Las Vegas, NV (Sports Network) - Michael Johnson made eight catches for 138
yards and three touchdowns as the UNLV Rebels defeated the New Mexico Lobos by
a 45-10 final in a Mountain West Conference affair.
Omar Clayton tossed all three of those touchdown strikes to Johnson and had
zero interceptions in the triumph for UNLV (1-3, 1-1 MWC).
Tarean Austin had one touchdown pass and two interceptions in the setback for
New Mexico (0-4, 0-2).
New Mexico got on the board first with a 48-yard touchdown pass from Austin to
Bryant Williams midway through the first quarter, giving the Lobos a 7-0
The Rebels answered on the ensuing drive with a three-yard touchdown run by
Channing Trotter, and UNLV pushed its lead to 14-7 less than two minutes later
with a 10-yard touchdown pass from Clayton to Johnson.
UNLV added two more unanswered touchdowns in the second quarter and led 28-7
at intermission. Tim Cornett broke free for a 46-yard touchdown scamper, while
Clayton and Johnson hooked up for a 43-yard scoring strike.
The points kept coming for UNLV in the third quarter, as Clayton and Johnson
connected for a 35-yard pitch and catch. Then, B.J. Bell recovered a New
Mexico fumble and raced 40 yards for a score, pushing the Rebel advantage to
Nolan Kohorst hit a 24-yard field goal for UNLV in the fourth quarter to bring
the score to its final of 45-10.
The Lobos have now scored 41 total points through four games this season.
