Tulsa, OK (Sports Network) - G.J. Kinne threw for 371 yards and four
touchdowns as the Tulsa Golden Hurricane cruised to a 64-27 victory over the
Rice Owls in a Conference USA clash.
Damaris Johnson made eight catches for 163 yards and two touchdowns for Tulsa
(6-3, 3-2 C-USA), and he also returned a kickoff for a score.
Sam McGuffie rushed for 178 yards and one touchdown in defeat for Rice (2-7,
Rice actually led the game by a 7-0 count, as Patrick Randolph hauled in a 50-
yard touchdown pass from Nick Fanuzzi less than two minutes into the contest.
Tulsa quickly took over, however, as the team scored three unanswered
touchdowns over the next seven-and-a-half minutes to grab a 20-7 victory.
Kinne tossed a 12-yard touchdown pass to Trae Johnson to begin the run. Then,
Damaris Johnson hauled in a 19-yard scoring strike from Kinne and a 41-yard
touchdown from Genesis Cole.
The Golden Hurricane continued the offensive explosion in the second quarter,
scoring three more touchdowns to push the count to 41-7. After touchdown runs
of one yard by Alex Singleton and 13 yards by Willie Carter, Kinne hooked up
with Thomas Roberson for a 19-yard score.
With just over three minutes gone in the third quarter, Rice cut the deficit
to 41-13 on a 55-yard touchdown pass from Taylor Cook to Luke Wilson.
Unfortunately for the Owls, Tulsa blocked the extra point attempt and John
Flanders raced 80 yards to put two points on the board. Things got worse for
Rice on the ensuing kickoff, as Johnson raced 94 yards for a Tulsa touchdown,
making the score 50-13.
Midway through the third quarter, Kinne threw a 16-yard touchdown pass to Trey
Watts, extending the Tulsa advantage to 57-13.
Rice was able to make the score 57-20 with a five-yard touchdown run by
McGuffie with just over five minutes remaining in the frame.
In the fourth quarter, Rice was able to reach the end zone on a six-yard
touchdown run by Tyler Smith, and Singleton capped the scoring for Tulsa with
a one-yard touchdown scamper.
The Golden Hurricane finished with a 612-415 edge in total yardage.
