Denton, TX (Sports Network) - Corey Robinson threw for 347 yards and three
touchdowns as the Troy Trojans slipped by the North Texas Mean Green, 41-35,
in a Sun Belt Conference showdown at Fouts Field.
Robinson converted 26-of-39 passes for the Trojans (5-3, 4-1 SBC) as they won
for the fourth time in the last five outings. Wideout Jerrel Jernigan did a
little bit of everything for the visitors as he converted a pair of passes for
18 yards and a score, along with rushing for a team-best 89 yards on six
attempts and turning four receptions into 57 yards.
The Mean Green (2-7, 2-4) were paced by Riley Dodge who hit 17-of-29 passes
for 269 yards and three TDs as the team took a tumble for the fourth time in
the last five games.
Troy needed just one play from scrimmage to score the first points of the game
as Robinson hit Chip Reeves with a 69-yard scoring strike at the 14:45 mark of
the opening quarter.
Tying the game at 7-7, Lance Dunbar hit the end zone on a six-yard run for UNT
only a couple minutes later.
Troy moved out to a 17-7 advantage as Robinson combined with Jason Bruce on a
39-yard TD pass play and kicker Michael Taylor knocked through a 24-yard field
goal early in the second frame.
Presented with a short field, the Mean Green edged closer to the Trojans when
Darius Carey crossed the goal line on a 12-yard run.
On the following possession Robinson guided Troy 46 yards on 11 plays, capped
by a 19-yard TD toss to Eric Thomas, to give the visitors a 24-14 advantage at
In the third the Trojans added to their lead with a 38-yard field goal by
Taylor, followed by a two-yard touchdown run by D.J. Taylor. However, in
between North Texas struck with a 31-yard TD pass between Dodge and Drew
Later in the third quarter Dodge hooked up with Dunbar on a 66-yard TD pass
play, making the score 34-28 heading into the final period of play.
Troy built the lead to 13 points with 8:40 remaining in the game when Jernigan
hit Donnie Crosby with a 19-yard TD pass, completing a nine-play, 78-yard
Dodge had one last successful drive against the Trojans as he hit Tyler
Stradford with a 24-yard TD pass, but that was as close as the home team would
get in what resulted in a six-point setback for the Mean Green.
Troy generated 543 yards of total offense, the team running 17 more offensive
plays than North Texas on the evening.
