Murfreesboro, TN (Sports Network) - Lance Dunbar ran for 226 yards and a
touchdown to lead the North Texas Mean Green over the Middle Tennessee Blue
Raiders, 23-17, in a Sun Belt Conference affair at Floyd Stadium.
Riley Dodge added 48 yards on the ground for Mean Green (3-7, 3-4), in
addition to throwing for 167 yards and a touchdown on 16-of-25 pass attempts.
Phillip Tanner led Middle Tennessee (3-6, 2-3) with 87 yards and two
touchdowns on seven carries. Dwight Dasher added 82 yards on the ground, while
passing for 197 yards and two interceptions on 17-of-30 attempts.
The Mean Green posted the first points of the game midway through the opening
quarter with a 30-yard touchdown pass from Dodge to Jamaal Jackson.
Dunbar tacked on a three-yard touchdown run late in the quarter to push North
Texas ahead 14-0.
Middle Tennessee countered in the second quarter with a 24-yard field goal
from Alan Gendreau and a 51-yard touchdown run by Tanner.
On the last play of the opening half, Zach Olen booted a 53-yard field goal to
give North Texas a 17-10 edge at the intermission.
Olen then hit a 24-yard field goal early in the third quarter before Tanner
responded with a 21-yard touchdown run for Middle Tennessee.
With 1:10 remaining, Olen connected on a 38-yard field goal and North Texas
held on for the 23-17 win.
The Mean Green went 10-of-18 on third downs, helping it to possess the ball
for over 38 minutes of the game.
