Syracuse, NY (Sports Network) - Jeremy Wright rushed for 98 yards and two
touchdowns to lead the Louisville Cardinals to a 28-20 victory over the
Syracuse Orange in a Big East Conference bout at the Carrier Dome.
Justin Burke completed 13-of-25 passes in relief of Adam Froman, who did not
play because of an injury. Burke did an admirable job for Louisville (5-4, 2-2
BigEast), throwing for 143 yards and two touchdowns.
Delone Carter led Syracuse (6-3, 3-2) with 107 rushing yards and scored once,
while Ryan Nassib threw for 155 yards and a touchdown in the loss. That
touchdown went to Alec Lemon, who finished with 73 yards on five receptions.
Midway through the opening quarter Wright's 28-yard touchdown run gave
Louisville a 7-0 edge.
However, the Orange evened the score less than a minute later when Nassib
connected with Lemon for a 51-yard touchdown pass.
The Cardinals regained the lead late in the first frame when Burke connected
with Andrell Smith for an eight-yard scoring strike.
Syracuse dominated the second stanza, beginning with an eight-yard touchdown
run by Carter.
In the final minute of the first half Ross Krautman nailed a 23-yard field
goal, giving the Orange a 17-14 lead at the break.
Louisville opened the second half with a 10-play, 60-yard drive that finished
with a 12-yard run by Wright.
Syracuse chipped away at its deficit when Krautman connected on a 42-yard
field goal midway through the third quarter.
The Cardinals scored seconds into the final frame when Burke found Josh
Chichester with a 21-yard scoring strike. The touchdown capped off an
impressive 12-play, 90-yard drive.
Louisville's defense did the rest, holding the Orange scoreless in the fourth
quarter, en route to the eight-point victory.
