Louisville, KY (Sports Network) - The Louisville Cardinals had a big day on
special teams, as they blanked the Connecticut Huskies, 26-0, in Big East play
at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium.
All of Louisville's points came courtesy of strong special teams plays.
Kicker Chris Philpott accounted for a majority of those points himself,
booting four field goals along with two extra points.
Adam Froman was 18-of-30 through the air for 195 yards and a touchdown that
was set up when the Huskies fumbled a punt return. Doug Beaumont scored
Louisville's (4-3, 1-1 Big East) other touchdown on a 74-yard punt return.
Bilal Powell ran for 105 yards on 27 carries in the victory.
Jordan Todman ran for 80 yards on 19 carries for the Huskies (3-4, 0-2). Two
Connecticut quarterbacks, Michael Box and Zach Frazer, were a combined 10-
of-20 through the air for just 87 yards.
The Cardinals got on the board in the opening minute of the second quarter
after the Huskies fumbled a punt to give them the ball in the red zone.
Cameron Graham caught a two-yard touchdown pass from Froman to put Louisville
Louisville extended its lead to 10-0 when Philpott booted a 39-yard field goal
with seven minutes left in the half. He added a 42-yard kick with 36 seconds
remaining until intermission.
The Cardinals added to their lead when Beaumont took a punt to the end zone a
minute into the third quarter.
Philpott hit a 26-yard field goal eight minutes later. His fourth field goal
of the afternoon, this one from 24 yards, made it a 26-0 game two minutes into
the final quarter.
The Huskies were held to just 195 yards of total offense. Louisville had a
huge edge in time of possession, 37:27-22:33.
