Blacksburg, VA (Sports Network) - Tyrod Taylor threw for three touchdowns and
ran for another as the Virginia Tech Hokies completely dominated the Wake
Forest Demon Deacons, 52-21, in an ACC affair at Lane Stadium.
Taylor completed 19-of-27 passes for the Hokies (5-2, 3-0 ACC) as they posted
their fifth straight win and remained perfect in league play. Taylor's
completions resulted in 292 yards, while his seven rushing attempts ended up
gaining him another 31 yards. David Wilson registered a team-best 105 yards on
15 carries, while Darren Evans posted three TDs and 52 yards on 12 carries.
The Demon Deacons (2-5, 1-3) were paced by Josh Harris who carried the ball 20
times and finished with a hefty 241 yards and a pair of scores in the team's
fifth straight setback. Quarterback Tanner Price hit a mere 3-of-16 passes for
just 92 yards and a score.
Tech scored three touchdowns in the first quarter, beginning with a two-yard
TD pass from Taylor to Logan Thomas. Evans moved the home team out to a 14-0
advantage on a five-yard run, while Taylor hooked up with Danny Coale with
3:02 remaining in the period. Before the Coale tally, Wake got on the board
with a 33-yard TD run by Harris, leaving VaTech with a 21-7 lead heading into
the second quarter.
Aside from an 87-yard touchdown run by Harris for the Demon Deacons in the
period, the second frame was dominated by the Hokies who found themselves
enjoying a 49-14 advantage at the break. Evans had TD runs of one and eight
yards in the quarter, Taylor contributed with a one-yard TD run of his own,
and also tossed a 10-yard TD pass to Jarrett Boykin with under a minute
remaining in the first half.
The teams swapped scores in the third quarter as Wake scored on a 78-yard pass
between Price and Chris Givens at the 11:35 mark, while Chris Hazley converted
a 33-yard field goal to make the score 52-21 and that's where it stood after a
scoreless fourth period.
Virginia Tech finished the contest with a staggering 605 yards of total
offense, getting off a 89 offensive plays compared to just 42 snaps for the
