Blacksburg, VA (Sports Network) - Tyrod Taylor generated 288 yards in total
offense and three touchdowns as the Virginia Tech Hokies rolled over the
Central Michigan Chippewas 45-21 in a non-conference game at Lane Stadium.
Taylor was 13-of-23 for 161 yards and a touchdown as the Hokies (4-2) won
their fourth straight. He also ran for 127 yards and two more scores on just
nine carries, while Jarrett Boykin caught eight balls for 117 yards.
Ryan Radcliff had a big day in defeat for the Chippewas (2-4), going 21-for-48
for 266 yards and three touchdowns. He was, however, intercepted once and
sacked three times. Paris Cotton ran for 105 yards on 21 carries.
The Chippewas started the scoring when Radcliff found Jerry Harris with a
23-yard scoring pass early in the opening period.
Moments later the Hokies tied the game when Taylor dashed 72 yards for a
Virginia Tech extended its lead to 14-7 early in the second quarter when
Darren Evans scored from six yards out.
Chris Hazley's 30-yard field goal and Taylor's seven-yard TD pass to Andre
Smith made it a 24-7 game with just over seven minutes left in the first half.
Taylor scampered for a 15-yard touchdown to put the Hokies up 31-7 late in
the third frame.
David Wilson's 68-yard run in the first minute of the fourth period extended
the Virginia Tech lead.
Radcliff found Harris for Central Michigan on a eight-yard toss with just
under 11 minutes left in the contest to make it a 38-14 game.
Jayron Hosley put an exclamation point on the win for Virginia Tech with an
80-yard punt return for a touchdown with five minutes left in the game.
Radcliff found Kito Poblah with a 19-yard throw with less than two minutes
remaining in regulation to finish the scoring.
The Hokies piled up 230 yards on the ground. The Chippewas actually outgained
their hosts, 401-394 but ran 84 plays from scrimmage to Virginia Tech's 53.
