West Point, NY (Sports Network) - Army ran through North Texas this afternoon
at Michie Stadium, as the Black Knights punished the Mean Green with 292
rushing yards and three touchdowns, en route to a 24-0 victory.
Brian Cobbs led the ground game for Army (2-1) with 75 yards on just seven
carries, while quarterback Trent Steelman rumbled for 68 yards and one score
on 11 attempts. Patrick Mealy added 46 yards and one touchdown for Army, which
totaled 22 first downs in the win.
Riley Dodge orchestrated a pitiful Mean Green (0-3) offense, completing just
8-of-17 passes for 63 yards. North Texas racked up just 95 rushing yards in
the contest, as Lance Dunbar led the way with 42 yards on 12 carries.
Mealy's nine-yard touchdown run gave the Black Knights a 7-0 lead with 11:01
to play in the first quarter.
Army extended its lead to 14-0, with 4:57 remaining in the first half, when
Malcolm Brown barreled his way in from two yards out.
Army's run game continued to roll in the third quarter, as Steelman
scored on a 20-yard touchdown scamper.
The Black Knights added a 23-yard field goal by Alex Carlton early in the
final frame. The 24 points would be more than enough for Army, which dominated
North Texas for the remainder of the contest.
The Army defense rose to the occasion limiting North Texas to just 201 total
yards, including a dismal 95 rushing yards on 29 attempts.
