NCAA Game Summary - Florida State at Oklahoma

(Saturday, September 11th)

Final Score: (10) Oklahoma 47, (17) Florida State 17

Norman, OK (Sports Network) - Landry Jones threw for four touchdowns and DeMarco Murray rushed for another two scores as 10th-ranked Oklahoma ran roughshod over No. 17 Florida State, 47-17, in a battle of perennial powers from Oklahoma Memorial Stadium.

"It's exciting to come out in a big atmosphere like that and again we have great, great respect for the tradition and history of Florida State," said OU head coach Bob Stoops. "Offensively, we took care of the football, good balance, and defensively, after the first drive we really settled in and played great football. Special teams, I thought was excellent all day. So it was a good solid game overall."

Jones went 30-of-40 for 380 yards and Murray ended with 51 yards on 16 carries for the Sooners (2-0), who built off a season-opening 31-24 decision over Utah State and downed FSU in the schools' first meeting since Oklahoma's 13-2 win to claim the 2000 national title.

Ryan Broyles finished with 124 yards and a TD reception on 12 catches, while Cameron Kenney, James Hanna and Trent Ratterree also hauled in a pass for a score.

Christian Ponder completed only 11-of-28 passes for 113 yards and two picks and E.J. Manuel threw for 109 yards and a score for the Seminoles (1-1), who routed Samford last week.

Jermaine Thomas picked up 58 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries while Taiwan Easterling added three receptions for 64 yards and a late TD.

Oklahoma made the most of its opening drive, going 80 yards and taking a 7-0 edge when Murray ran in from the one then Florida State responded with an 11- play drive to tie the game on a one-yard run from Thomas.

OU took the lead back on its next drive as Jones hit Broyles for an 18-yard scoring strike, then opened the second quarter by taking a 21-7 advantage after Jones connected with Kenney on a 36-yard jaunt that ended in paydirt.

Jones then hit Hanna for a 46-yard TD pass and though the extra point failed, the Sooners led 27-7. Murray capped the successful first half with another one-yard run and a 34-7 result at the break.

The rout was on as Jones found Ratterree for a seven-yard touchdown connection early in the third quarter, and a 39-yard field goal from Patrick O'Hara gave the home team a 44-7 edge.

Florida State was unable to provide an answer until Dustin Hopkins was good from 52-yards out with just over three minutes played in the fourth quarter.

O'Hara hit from 38 yards out with under five minutes left in the contest before Manuel and Easterling hooked up for a 47-yard score on the final play of the game.

"They scored and went up 21-7, and we got field position back. I think they got control of the kicking game too. We didn?t convert third downs. A couple chances we had, (we) just lost control of the line of scrimmage a little bit," admitted Florida State head coach Jimbo Fisher. "They just caught us off balance and they were scoring on their side. We get it at the start of the second half and we didnt take advantage of it. And they did a good job of mixing it up on third down and controlling the line of scrimmage."
