New Orleans, LA (Sports Network) - Jeremiah Masoli threw for 281 yards and a
touchdown to lead the Ole Miss Rebels past the Tulane Green Wave, 27-13, in
non-conference action at the Louisiana Superdome.
Masoli completed 14-of-20 pass attempts with one interception and added 27
yards and a score on the ground for Ole Miss (1-1), which was coming off a
49-48 loss to Jacksonville State in double overtime last Saturday. Markeith
Summers was his main target, pulling in five balls for 165 yards and a
Ryan Griffin connected on 21-of-30 tosses for 203 yards for Tulane (1-1),
which opened its season with a wild 27-21 win over Southeastern Louisiana.
Masoli started off the game's scoring with a one-yard plunge three minutes
into the opening quarter.
Later on in the frame, Brandon Bolden rumbled 16 yards to extend the Rebels'
lead to 14-0.
After the two teams traded field goals in the second quarter, Masoli hit
Summers on a 70-yard scoring pass to give a Ole Miss a 24-3 lead at the break.
Tulane hung around with a one-yard touchdown run from Orleans Darkwa late in
the third quarter.
Cairo Santos then hit a 39-yard field goal early in the fourth quarter for
Tulane, making it a 24-13 game.
Ole Miss responded with a 29-yard field goal from Bryson Rose and that would
be the last score of the game.
The Rebels racked up five sacks while holding Tulane to just a 2-of-10 effort
on third downs.
