Oxford, MS (Sports Network) - Brandon Bolden carried the ball 23 times for 108
yards and a touchdown as the Ole Miss Rebels defeated the Kentucky Wildcats,
42-35 in an SEC showdown at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.
Quarterback Jeremiah Masoli completed nine of his 17 passes for Ole Miss (3-2,
1-1 SEC), throwing for 90 yards and three touchdowns. Masoli also had nine
carries for 43 yards and a rushing touchdown in the win.
Kentucky (3-2, 0-2 SEC) was led by quarterback Mike Hartline who threw for 300
yards with two touchdowns and one interception. Running back Derrick Locke
carried the ball 19 times for 68 yards and two scores, while also amassing 108
yards receiving on eight catches in the loss.
The Wildcats took the ball 60 yards on eight plays to start off the game,
capped by a seven-yard touchdown run by Locke, giving Kentucky the early 7-0
Later in the quarter Ole Miss tied the game at seven after Rodney Scott ran
the ball into the end zone from four yards out.
Early in the second quarter, Kentucky regained the lead when Hartline
connected on a 15-yard touchdown pass to Randall Cobb as the Wildcats now held
a 14-7 advantage.
Ole Miss knotted the game at 14 apiece after Masoli found H.R. Greer for an
eight-yard touchdown. The Rebels then took advantage of a Kentucky turnover as
Bolden hit the end zone on a two-yard run, giving Ole Miss the 21-14 lead.
Kentucky's Craig McIntosh split the uprights on an impressive 50-yard field
goal as time expired in the opening half, leaving the Wildcats with a 21-17
deficit at the break.
Ole Miss opened the scoring in the second half when Masoli completed an eight-
yard touchdown pass to Bolden, as the Rebels lengthened their lead to 28-17.
Kentucky received another field goal from McIntosh, this time from 42 yards
out, making the score 28-20 with 6:28 remaining in the third frame.
The Rebels scored on a one-yard rush by Masoli on their next drive, giving Ole
Miss the 35-20 lead.
After a three-and-out by Kentucky, Ole Miss return man Jesse Grandy brought
back a punt 73 yards and two plays later, Masoli connected on a four-yard pass
to Ferbia Allen for the touchdown and a 42-20 Rebels advantage.
Kentucky fought back as Locke found his way into the end zone for the second
time on the day, this time on a three-yard run. Hartline completed a pass to
Cobb for a successful two-point conversion, but the Wildcats still trailed
The Wildcats weren't done there as Hartline found Chris Matthews for a 13-yard
touchdown with 1:34 remaining in regulation to bring the deficit to seven,
42-35. But that's where the score stayed as Kentucky's attempt of an onside
kick was recovered by the Rebels who secured the home victory.
