Argonauts swipe Emry from Alouettes
Toronto, ON (SportsNetwork.com) - The Toronto Argonauts inked free agent linebacker Shea Emry to a three-year contract on Tuesday.
"Shea is someone who is very familiar to our coaching staff and it was important for us to get him under contract. He is a proven winner and a very good veteran player who we believe will have a strong presence in our locker room. We are very happy to have him with us in Toronto," said Argos GM Jim Barker.
Emry, who starred for the rival Montreal Alouettes for the last six seasons, comes to Ontario after racking up 46 tackles, three sacks, two interceptions and one fumble recovery last season.
"I have many strong relationships with players in Toronto and I know there is a winning culture in the locker room. I am eager to rejoin coaches Scott Milanovich, Tim Burke and Marcus Brady, all of whom I enjoyed playing for previously in Montreal," Emry said. "It was an easy decision to make this move as I believe the organization has been headed in a positive direction. I look forward to training camp and the opportunity to work toward winning another championship."
The 27-year-old native of British Columbia is a two-time Grey Cup winner with Montreal (2009-10), who has compiled 261 tackles, 13 sacks and four picks -- including one returned for a score -- along with three fumble recoveries since 2008.
