Riders' Chamblin named CFL's top coach

Ottawa, ON (SportsNetwork.com) - Saskatchewan Roughriders head coach Corey Chamblin was named the CFL's 2013 coach of the year on Wednesday.

In his second year at the helm in Regina, Chamblin led his club to an 11-7 record, which included an 8-1 start to the campaign. The Riders took down British Columbia and Calgary in the West Division before besting the Hamilton Tiger-Cats by a 45-23 count in the Grey Cup in what was essentially a home contest at Mosaic Stadium.

"Coach Chamblin did a remarkable job of leading his players through adversity, high expectations and the ups and downs of a season," said league commissioner Mark Cohon. "His Roughriders captured the hearts of not only Rider Nation, but Canadians across the country. On behalf of the entire league and our fans from coast to coast, congratulations on this distinct honour."

The 36-year-old native of Alabama and Tennessee Tech product received 39 first-place votes from a panel of 59 voting members of Football Reports of Canada.
