GAME NOTES: The IUPUI Jaguars begin their Summit League season with a visit to the Swinney Rec Center where they will square off with the UMKC Kangaroos.

IUPUI ended a three-game losing slide its last time out with an 87-54 rout of Indiana-East of the NAIA Division II. The Jaguars' win improved their record to 3-4 as they already picked victories over Utah Valley (67-54) and Bowling Green (80-66). Coach Todd Howard was unable to lead his team to any wins since defeating the Falcons on Nov 13, as it fell to Bradley (79-72) at home before enduring the same result versus North Texas (80-66) and Lamar (86-82) in the consolation round of the NIT Season Tip-Off. IUPUI is scoring 72.6 ppg on 45.6 percent shooting from the floor through its first seven contests.

UMKC took a beating its last time out as it was handed a 91-45 loss by Ohio State in Columbus. The loss dropped the team's record to 2-3 with its only win over a Division I opponent coming in a 63-57 contest with Norfolk State. This will be the home opener for the 'Roos. Coach Matt Brown has compiled a 58-101 overall record during his five-plus seasons at the helm of the program. His squad has been sporadic on the offensive end on its way to a 60.4 ppg average.

IUPUI is 19-14 all-time versus UMKC, including a 19-11 record during its Division I era. The hosts both won in last season's home-and-home series.

Although it was against an NAIA competitor, IUPUI played great on both ends of the floor its last time out. The Jaguars had four players score in double- figures as they shot 50 percent from the field. They held their opponent to 31.1 percent shooting and led by as many as 39 in the contest. P.J. Hubert came off the bench to drain 5-of-11 from beyond the arc on his way to a team- best 22 points. Center Mitchell Patton scored 12 points in just 15 minutes in the win. Patton still paces the team with 16.7 points and 6.3 rebounds per outing. Senior guard John Hart, who played in the Big Ten for Purdue last season, added 15 in the win for his fourth consecutive double-digit outing and is second on the team in scoring with 15.7 ppg.

Ohio State completely shut down UMKC in the Summit League program's last outing. The 'Roos converted only 25.5 percent of their field goal attempts including just 1-of-15 from 3-point range. They were also outrebounded 40-30 and turned the ball over 18 times in the loss. Clearly, the Buckeyes are above and beyond any of the Summit League's members, but the team is still shooting below 40 percent from the field and has 32 more turnovers than assists. Estan Tyler and Kirk Korver are tied for the team's scoring lead with 54 points each (10.8 ppg). Fred Chatmon is the top rebounder with six per contest.

Although IUPUI has a losing record coming in, it has held its own versus much tougher competition. The 'Roos are going to have to play tough on the interior as the Jaguars pound away on the inside with their star center.
