GAME NOTES: The Murray State Racers return home to the CFSB Center to host the Old Dominion Monarchs in a non-league clash.

Murray State is back in Kentucky for its first home game in 17 days. The Racers took second place in the Charleston Classic with wins over Auburn and St. John's before falling to Colorado in the title game on Sunday, 81-74.

Meanwhile, Old Dominion is looking to snap a three-game slide after falling at home to VMI on Wednesday, 76-71. The Monarchs went 1-2 as the host school in the Liberty Tax Classic and have followed up the event with losses to Cleveland State and VMI over the past week.

MSU won the only prior meeting between these two schools, claiming a 76-61 triumph over the Monarchs in the 1990-91 Puerto Rico Shootout in San Juan.

After falling behind to VMI by 13 at the half, Old Dominion rallied with a 23-10 run to tie the game at 57-57 with 7:03 to play in regulation. However, the Monarchs were simply unable to finish the job as the Keydets held on for the win. ODU shot just 39.5 percent from the floor in that decisive first half, while VMI shot 54.8 percent. Redshirt Sophomore Dimitri Batten led the Monarchs with a career-high 21 points and Donte Hill scored 13 in a losing effort, while Richard Ross (10 points) and DeShawn Painter pulled down nine rebounds apiece. ODU lost despite holding a commanding 47-34 rebounding advantage, as the team could not overcome 18 turnovers to fall to VMI for the first time in 13 meetings.

For Murray State, Isaiah Canaan and Ed Daniel are coming off solid showings in the Charleston Classic. Canaan was named to the all-tournament team after averaging 20.7 points in MSU's three games, while Daniel posted back-to-back double-doubles against St. John's and Colorado. Daniel is the first Racer to accomplish that feat since Bruce Carter in 2008. However, after a tight battle with CU for much of the game, the Buffaloes went on a late 13-1 run to go up by 10 with five minutes remaining, and MSU was never able to recover. The Buffs shot 53.2 percent from the field and outscored Murray State at the free- throw line, 27-8. Canaan scored 21 in the loss, while Daniel finished with 20 points and 10 boards. Dexter Fields chipped in with 18 points behind a 5-of-8 effort from beyond the arc.

By the looks of how things have gone over the season's first few weeks, ODU's final year as a member of the Colonial Athletic Association could shape up to be a long one. The Racers have not been on their home floor in a while, and it will likely be a charged up atmosphere at the CFSB Center.
