GAME NOTES: After coming within two points of its first win of the season on Monday, the James Madison Dukes will try once again when they match up with the Youngstown State Penguins at the Palumbo Center as part of the Pittsburgh sub-regional of the Legends Classic.

In a matchup with Duquesne, James Madison gave the host Dukes everything they could handle but came up short in overtime in a 90-88 loss. The loss came after James Madison was routed 100-77 in a road contest against UCLA in the season opener. In the third day of the Legends Classic, James Madison clashes with North Dakota State.

A 4-0 start was wiped away for Youngstown State in the first game of the Legends Classic as despite the heroic efforts of Kendrick Perry, North Dakota State handed the Penguins an 83-80 loss in overtime. Youngstown State had won its first three games to open the season before the loss, including a 68-56 win on the road over Georgia.

Youngstown State leads the all-time series between these teams with a pair of victories during the 2005 and 2006 seasons.

Devin Moore sank two free throws late in the second half to erase a seven- point deficit for James Madison and send the game into overtime against Duquesne. In the extra session James Madison got off to a quick lead but then couldn't muster enough offense, missing its last two attempts in the final 20 seconds in the loss. Rayshawn Goins was sensational in the contest with 20 points and 15 rebounds.

Though it has only played two games this season, James Madison's defense has looked rather weak. The Dukes are surrendering an eye-popping 95 points per game, which has erased any positive effects of the team's strong 79 points per game scoring average. Goins (22.0 ppg, 11.0 rpg) is averaging a double-double through the first two games, while also scoring at a very high level. Also in double figures for the Dukes is Andre Nation (12.0 ppg) and A.J. Davis (12.0 ppg). Alioune Diouf (9.5 ppg) and Devon Moore (9.5 ppg) are also scoring around double figures while Moore has run the point well thus far by handing out five assists a game.

Trailing 64-59 with just 13 seconds left in regulation, Perry hit a layup and then nailed a 3-pointer at the buzzer to send Youngstown State's matchup with North Dakota State to overtime. However in overtime the Penguins ran out of gas and were unable to capture a win. The Penguins shot less than 40 percent from the floor in the contest but did turn the ball over just seven times.

Perry has had no issue taking big shots for the Penguins. The junior guard has been filling it up early on (19.8 ppg), while also managing to help on the glass (6.2 rpg). Perry is one of four different players to bring in at least five rebounds for game for a Penguins squad that is bringing in 39.8 boards per game as a team. Blake Allen (13.5 ppg, 4.2 rpg) is also scoring in double figures out of the backcourt. Kamren Belin (12.2 ppg, 7.8 rpg) is the leading rebounder and an efficient scorer inside, while Damian Eagle (10.2 ppg, 6.5 rpg) has also been a double-figure scorer in the paint although he needs to improve on his shooting (35.7 FG percentage). D.J. Cole (4.8 ppg) and Bobby Hain (5.8 ppg) are the only two reserves that have seen much time this season.

Perry and Goins won't matchup one-on-one but the battle between the two scorers should make for a back and forth affair. When it comes down to it Youngstown State has some better options and has been a more proven defensive team.

Sports Network Predicted Outcome: Youngstown State 76, James Madison 72
