GAME NOTES: The Virginia Tech Hokies hope to put the brakes on a four-game slide on Saturday when they visit the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in an Atlantic Coast Conference affair at McCamish Pavilion in Atlanta.

Virginia Tech lost its second conference matchup in as many tries on Wednesday, falling to Boston College, 86-75. The Hokies had opened ACC play with a 23-point setback to Maryland.

In the loss to BC, Erick Green scored 24 points and dished out nine assists. Jarell Eddie recorded 21 points and six boards as Virginia Tech lost for the sixth time in eight games after starting the season with seven consecutive wins.

Georgia Tech hasn't been much better and comes into Saturday's tilt having lost two in a row after dropping an 83-70 decision to nationally ranked NC State.

Daniel Miller led the Yellow Jackets with 15 points and 10 rebounds, while Mfon Udofia added 13 points and Robert Carter Jr. recorded 12 points and seven rebounds.

Georgia Tech's struggles could certainly continue, as it has lost 13 of its 17 overall meetings with the Hokies. Virginia Tech beat the Jackets in the only meeting between the teams last season, and has won three straight and six of the last seven in the series.

Despite giving up 83 points and allowing NC State to shoot over 50 percent (50.9), Georgia Tech still remains in the nation's top-10 in scoring defense (sixth) and field goal percentage defense (eighth), and ranks second and third in the ACC, respectively, in those categories. Opponents are scoring 56.2 ppg and only shooting 36.7 percent from the floor. The defensive effort has been needed, as scoring has been hard to come by. The Yellow Jackets rank 11th in the ACC and 231st nationally in offensive production at a modest 65.6 ppg. Freshman swingman Marcus Georges-Hunt is currently the only Yellow Jacket with a double-digit scoring average at 10.9 ppg. Three others are close to the mark however, in Carter (9.9 ppg), Udofia (9.9 ppg) and Kammeon Holsey (9.4 ppg).

A victory on Saturday would give Georgia Tech 11 wins for the season, matching last year's total.

When the Hokies need a bucket, they have the luxury of turning to Green, who is averaging a robust 24.6 points per game. He also leads the Hokies in assists (71) and steals (23) and is one of the nation's top free throw shooters, shooting 84.7 percent from the line. Green has scored 20-or-more points in an ACC-best 14 games this season. He has scored in double figures in 18 consecutive games, tops among ACC players this season. Eddie chips in with 14.6 points and 6.5 boards per game, while Robert Brown rounds out the double- digit scorers with 10.6 ppg.

As good as the Yellow Jackets are defensively, they may not have enough firepower at the other end to keep up with Green, who was recently named a Bob Cousy Award finalist.
