GAMES NOTES: In an Atlantic Coast Conference showdown the Boston College Eagles and the Maryland Terrapins will meet up at the Comcast Center on Tuesday night.

Boston College will be trying to bounce back from a disappointing, 60-59 setback against Miami-Florida last time out. The loss dropped the Eagles to 9-8 overall and 1-3 in league contests. Next up for the Eagles is a trip to Charlottesville to battle Virginia in the second-half of a two-game road trip.

After a thrilling 51-50 victory over NC State last week the Terrapins suffered a letdown on the road against North Carolina in a 62-52 defeat. The loss was the third in the last four games for Maryland which still has a strong 14-4 overall mark but just a 2-3 ledger against ACC opponents. Maryland has been nearly impossible to beat at the Comcast Center this season with the team earning wins in 12 of its 13 matchups. Maryland will need to avoid overlooking this contest with a battle with No. 1 Duke looming next.

When these teams met last season Maryland posted an 81-65 victory. With the win the Terrapins edged closer in the all-time series which Boston College leads, 6-5.

Olivier Hanlan scored a game-high 17 points but he needed to get 18 for Boston College against Miami. The freshman guard was fouled on a 3-point attempt in the final seconds. After calmly hitting the first two free throws to bring the Eagles to within a point his final shot hit off the front of the rim, dashing the Eagles' hopes.

The 59 points that Boston College managed was actually out of character for the Eagles who are scoring more than 10 points per game above that total. In fact in the previous four games the Eagles have managed to score at least 72 points in each contest. However erratic shooting (.439 FG percentage) and the team's less than stellar defensive production (67.9 points allowed per game) have kept it from picking up more wins. Versatile forward Ryan Anderson (16.4 ppg, 9.5 rpg) leads a quarter of double-figure scorers for Boston College. Hanlan (13.8 ppg, 4.5 rpg) has shown flashes of brilliance that provide hope for the future while Joe Rahon (10.8 ppg) and Lonnie Jackson (10.2 ppg) have managed to average in double digits despite shooting worse than 40 percent from the field.

For the fourth straight contest Maryland shot below 40 percent from the field in the loss to North Carolina. The Terrapins were especially weak from beyond the arc as they hit on just 1-of-12 shots. The 21 turnovers the Terrapins committed did little to help their efforts.

Poor offensive showings have really plagued Maryland over the past few games. The Terrapins have managed to score more than 52 points only once in the last four contests, while shooting below 40 percent in each of those games. It is really the struggles on offense that have sank the Terrapins, as they have given up 65 points or less in all four contests as well. Overall Maryland has surrendered just 59.6 points per game this season on the third-lowest opponent field goal percentage (.351) in the country. Controlling the boards has been key for Maryland which is tops in the country in rebounds (43.1 pg). Alex Len (13.3 ppg, 7.9 rpg, 2.1 bpg) has utilized his 7-foot-1 frame to lead the team in scoring and rebounding, while ranking third in the conference in blocks. Dezmine Wells (12.2 ppg) provides a spark out of the backcourt.

Maryland will be more than capable of keeping Boston College in check. If the Terrapins can find a bit more consistency on offense they should pick up an easy win.
