Portland, OR (Sports Network) - Renado Parker tallied a double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds, both career-highs, as the Portland State Vikings held off the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks, 79-74, in a Big Sky Conference bout at the Stott Center.
All five starters scored in double figures for Portland State (5-8, 3-3 Big Sky), which has won back-to-back games. Lateef McMullan, Michael Harthun, and Gary Winston all put up 13 points, while Aaron Moore netted 12 points. McMullan also handed out seven assists in the triumph.
For NAU (5-11, 2-4), Gabe Rogers scored 17 points, Gaellan Bewernick and Max Jacobsen chipped in 14 points apiece, and DeWayne Russell added 10 points.
NAU scored the first seven points of the game and shot a lofty 62.5 percent from the field in the first half, but Portland State eventually took a 34-32 lead into intermission. The Vikings shot 48 percent from the floor in the opening 20 minutes and 7-of-10 from the foul line, while the Lumberjacks went without a free throw attempt in the frame.
Both teams shot greater than 51 percent in the second half, but while NAU spent the entire half within single-digits of the lead and even tied the game on a few occasions, it would never take the lead. Portland State sealed the win by shooting 4-of-4 from the foul line in the final 20 seconds.
Despite shooting 56.4 percent from the floor on the night, NAU was just 5- of-15 from 3-point range. It also lost the turnover battle, 18-14.
